Hachiro has finally made a human friend! The only problem is, that friend happens to be the leader of the elite squad formed to combat Fears like Hachiro. What’s next? Is Hachiro going to get kidnapped by a big, bad Fear named Jack the Fiend? You bet he is!
A new character appears who needs to assassinate our boy (and good luck to him, haha), I really liked him though and his little bird Chunko! Next up your obligatory beach scene which I loved though I felt for the poor doctor he is not used to sun and relaxation. Add to that our MC and for a moment I thought we would have fun dad/son moment, but alas. XD That reference, or should I say references to Jaws, I was in stitches! Fiend x our MC = WOW. That was one kick-ass battle to look at and I loved it. I was cheering for our MC. And then there is more. From a dad son moment to some cute/crazy doggos to a playdate (yes, at such moments you remember that our MC is actually 5 years old) with one of the Unbelievables to a new character appearing and tension rising! Boy, I had so much fun with this volume, eep! Oh, and character profiles, YES!
I may write a longer review, maybe I will keep it as it is. We will see.
Series: Tokyo Fears Rhapsody #2 Rating: 4 stars - It was really good
This picks up shortly after the previous book ended. Like the previous book, this is a bit of a slice of life story but with a thorough storyline as well. In this we have Hachiro dealing with an assassin, the dangerous Fear Jack the Fiend, making friends, and dealing with a film producing Fear. We also learn more about Dr. Frankenstein and get some backstory on Hachiro’s childhood after being created.
Hachiro Futami, aka No. 28, is meant to be the destroyer of humans but instead becomes a human lover and protector. I loved him in the first book and he just keeps getting better with the more we learn about him. Hachiro continues to grow in this book as he fights new Fears and learns more about his father’s motivations. I am so glad we are learning more about the Doctor and his relationship with Hachiro. I love all the snippets of his childhood and seeing the Doctor’s feelings during the experiments.
The slice of life aspects in this one were amusing, much like the previous book. I enjoyed watching Hachiro make friends out of the people trying to kill him. It is amusing and will be a very interesting reveal when he realizes the truth about them. I also really enjoyed the beach day with Frankenstein because it was nice to see him in a non-medical setting and just playing the part of a standoffish dad to a bunch of dangerous children.
Now that Hachiro’s name is known throughout Infernia, he is dealing with Fears tracking him down for a fight. I really enjoyed the fight with Jack the Fiend. He was a very interesting Fear and I want to know more about him now, especially since he was so powerful.
This ends on a cliffhanger with another fiend attacking. I am dying to know what will happen next to Hachiro and his friend Kosuke.

Another great volume of "Tokyo Fears Rhapsody!" In this volume Hachiro goes up against Jack the Fiend and also makes a friend... who is actually the leader of the elite squad that Hachiro admires. This manga has such a great balance between humor, action, and mild horror. I really enjoy how Hachiro's character interacts with others and am looking forward to the 3rd volume!
With this next volume, it has become clear that it is just Mary Shelley's Frankenstein with the serial numbers filed off. However, transformed into its own thing and told in its own unique way.
This volume leaned into the horror aspects more which I enjoyed. I loved seeing all the creepy monsters, especially juxtaposed with the silly humor. I’m very interested to see where this series goes!
