Vol. 1 ★★★☆☆
Vol. 2 ★★★★☆

This volume is a bait-and-switch. On the surface, it seems like a love triangle. However, it's more about Shinobu meeting his in-law, except the person in question isn't Hikaru's parent or related to him in any shape or form and is actually his mentor. It's silly, but I get why Niyama decides on this path as this is ultimately an office BL. Plus, it leads to some funny moments, such as Osuke imagining Hikaru as a chick that just hatched in between his hands. However, as much as I enjoy this volume, I have trouble imagining what future volumes can be about if Niyama wants to keep the story mostly set in the office.

Another amazing volume!! Jealous Shinobu was kinda hot and that ending was very sweet. But this new man needs to leave Hikaru and Shinobu alone or I will fight him!

I love this art style so much. I enjoy the story, but I wish there was a bit more of an emotional connection between Shinobu and Hikaru. Like I understand they're both kind of stubborn and have this back and forth and we did get that scene at the end, but idk I want more of them spending time together like give me more vulnerable date content!

we FINALLY got their confession!!! thank you, king, for giving them a little push. i love this vol much more than the last two as we got to see some jealousy from shinobu. i must say i do agree we need more of an emotional connection between hikaru & shinobu but i still liked it overall!

This series has been a surprise gem for me. I love everything from the tropes (office romance, secret dating, opposites attract) characterisation, storyline and the art.
The progression of their relationship and the drama of the mentor was perfect. Some laugh out loud moments too

What I learned from this volume is that: If you want to keep your romantic relationship secret from your coworkers, maybe you shouldn’t do naughty things at the the company’s doorless men’s restroom.

Niyama really sat there in that afterwards and said they purposefully made this less messy than it could have been… babe you are so messy for this volume, this was so messy!!!

I wanted to rate this lower, maybe a 2.5/ 5 stars, but it’s not bad by far. I just think I have to do a bit of separation between the first volume and where things are going. After I read the love confession at the end, I was just left confused. Because truly why do they even love each other? Bl loves to call lust or a crush “love,” and I’ve come to accept that since these are just supposed to be fun romance novels. Escapism and fantasy, if you will. But I actually cannot separate church and state here! They haven’t significantly opened up to one another, they haven’t even said that they’re dating, and as I’ve said this whole time they truly have no reason to like each other outside of the bomb ass sex. Which also now that I’m thinking about it… why is the sex even that good for Shinobu anymore? He was a bit of a player in the past, and Hikaru is written to practically feel virginal and inexperienced. I kinda thought the whole reason they were both into it at first was the degradation/ humiliation of it all but that got dropped after the first volume. Surely that ‘straight man turned gay’ doesn’t offer a hole so glorious that Shinobu can’t even picture himself with another man anymore. But apparently he’s fallen. For some reason. Still don’t get why, but maybe that’s the love I thought was missing after all.

Damn now I’m on my soapbox, thinking about the series as a whole. Wasn’t it sorta like Shinobu realized he was being an asshole leading Hikaru on, and that’s why he felt bad and confessed to his crimes in the first volume? That’s not love or lust babe, that’s just realizing you’ve been an ass and not wanting to continue being a bad person. I just don’t see the chemistry that everyone else sees between these two. At all. And I’m kinda mad about it, I really want to like this series! But I was rooting for The King to come in here and break them up, by whatever means necessary! And he’s kinda crazy and I was still hoping things would go in a different direction!

I also just don’t think the overarching plot that this series is going for is particularly unique, new, or interesting. I do think the love triangle subversion was super fun and unique, and the new character offered a lot of comedy as well as acted as a driving factor for them to progress their relationship. I’m just like… but they didn’t actually progress their relationship. All they did was say I love you, and that was at the very end. Idk!!! Maybe I’m holding my yaoi to too high of a standard. The way Shinobu is written makes me yearn for a romance that doesn’t progress in the typical manner of a bl romance, I don’t want the playboy to settle down and get hitched, but I do want to see him open up and grow and experience new things. And I’d also like to understand him better, get to actually know these characters, ya know. I’m conflicted I guess. That’s also why I was hoping The King would actually shake things up, but no. To nobody’s surprise, the main couple ends up stronger than ever despite the obstacles thrown at them. For some reason.

I think my general dissatisfaction with this series might also be caused by my sheer disinterest and mild hatred of Hikaru. I still don’t like his character at all I am so sorry. And to add insult to injury… I also don’t think he’s hot! :/

Oh also, the Clark Kent/ Superman of it all was part of the appeal of this series for me, how Shinobu had an entirely different persona at work than at home or the bar. I understand that in order for things to progress, it couldn’t stay like that forever. But his workplace persona was definitely where a lot of Shinobu’s charm came from for me, and having the line between the two get muddled more and more has become less interesting or unique feeling to me. It’s starting to feel like any other bl now, which is a shame.

That’s all the hot takes I can muster for now. Oops, accidentally rage baited myself instead of just… enjoying the hot steamy yaoi with the gorgeous top.

I really do love this series.

There's a little part of me that wants it to conclude here, because I hate when stories get drawn out into pointless drama just to keep them going on and on and on. But so far every volume has been wonderful, so I'm okay with more. For now.

We get the inevitable Another Man Enters The Picture in this volume, but it was a pleasant surprise to have it switch from a rival love interest to a workplace mentor who genuinely just thinks of Hikaru as his younger brother - someone sweet and hardworking whom he doesn't want to see getting hurt by a player like this careless, two-faced scoundrel in the office.

To his credit, Osuke apologizes quickly and effectively once he gets solid answers from both Hikaru and Shinobu about what their relationship really means...and once he sees them interacting (and bickering) in real time. Hikaru simply has an entirely different relationship with these two men, and it's easy for Osuke to understand their chemistry once he witnesses Hikaru's stubborn, petty, pouting side coming out.

This story has such a wonderful combination of laugh-out-loud humor, spicy scenes that really serve to further the plot/relationship, and genuinely fantastic communication. I love how confident they both are in themselves and in their relationship, even when things like the technical definition of that relationship aren't entirely defined. It's incredibly refreshing to have characters who trust each other this much, even while still struggling through some rough patches of getting to know each other, and balancing their work with their romance.

Right now, this may well be in my top 10 favorite manga, although I'd need to shuffle my lists around a little to really decide where it would fit. I hope it doesn't fall off the rails down the line, if it does keep going. This one had a perfect ending, with one of my favorite confession ("I love you") scenes.

I will have to reread this again to give a better review, but Niyama is, by far, one of the few yaoi writers that I love the most. The art is beautiful, the story magnetic, and the characters are really well written. Plus, there is humor and lots of it paired nicely with steamy sex. Although I am a little unsure of how realistic it is for gay men, especially bi men who have experienced their first time with a member of the same sex. I only say that because it gets really almost catty in language when they squabble about how they feel about each other... but maybe most of the men I have met , both gay, bi and straight were avoidantly attached? I could be biased here and not know that sliver of gay love. Very possible. But I still really enjoyed it. 5 stars because she made me squel with love. Absolutely heart this.

Still loving this series and our couple. The addition of a mentor instead of a third love interest was refreshing and I loved that he kept referring to Hikaru as a baby chick haha. He truly just wanted the best. Luckily his introduction forced our main couple into finally verbalizing their feelings. We all knew they were in deep based on their actions but it was adorable to see them stutter and blush.

I love this series so much and the amount of quotable moments were so many!!!

My favourite has to be: "...then sit back, shut up, and watch". It was absolutely perfect in the way it was used, along with the look on Shinobu' face (*≧ω≦)

There were so many sweet moments and the introduction of the King worked really well (he was also really hot...).

I'm really hoping there will be more volumes, since I love this story and couple so much, but the 'end' at the end has me worried...🥲

By far my favorite volume of this series as the relationship between Shinobu and Hikaru deepens. I also really liked that the mangaka didn’t go the typical route by making Osuke be in love with Hikaru but instead an older brother type that genuinely was concerned for his protégée. No complaints with this one.

More like a 3.5 Nothing can top my love for Shinobu and Hikaru! but the conflict with the king snooping around is very much unwelcome for me, however I would eat anything serve to me with Shinobu and Hikaru in it so I still enjoyed this one. Would it be a pipe dream to ask for another volume? (I feel like this is the last one though!) Also, niyama-sensei’s art style is really an eye candy.

I read it in French, but I'm writing the review in English. I can't find the edition I read here.

The title of the French edition is in Spanish, I have no idea why.

It's Niyama, I really like her drawings and these two characters are incredible. I hope there will be a fourth volume.

4 volumes and ongoing. Niyama feeds us well. Also, I do not complain about introducing another man to make the MLs jealous. I appreciate that he wasn't a love interest, though. "I raised him (from an egg)" 🤣

Very enjoyable! I hope it doesn't get drawn out, now.

Would love a longer story from Niyama that doesn't immediately jump into the first kiss or sex, though. Both this and My Dearest Patrolman are very good on the emotional part - just switching the order would make a banger.
