aaah this volume was just as good as the others!! the emphasis in the details showcasing uncontrollable rage is just amazing.

we’re introduced to a new character that’s just as psychotic as shinpei; the instigator behind satoko’s kidnapping is also revealed!

This is the shounen-est shoujo I have ever read. I keep giving it three stars, but I think that may be Literary Stockholm Syndrome.

Shinpei is nuts. I love him. Kotaro isn't so bad either ohohoho.

Recap: Flashback to her and her guard when she was younger. Flash forward to Shinpei deciding to live on the island with Satoko. Kotaro, Satoko's bodyguard, shows up on the island intent on buying her contract to bring her home. Shinpei gets insecure and jealous. He drugs Ko and then they fight. Satoko intervenes and Shinepei runs off. She goes after Shinpei and they have a heart to heart. Things heat up a little before Ko shows up. Then we find out the step mom is truly evil bc she placed the hit on Satoko. Ending with the mercenary saying he'll help her if she gets the most sought after woman to let him buy her contract.

Firefly Wedding is really filling the gap of the Yakuza Fiancée for me. The series are different don’t get me wrong but they have similarities. I actually really enjoyed this volume as I have every volume of this series. The art is fantastic and I love how unique it is. I actually really enjoyed the arrival of Kotaro and found the scenes of him and Shinpei to be so funny, even if I’m currently over drugging thanks to case file compendium. I had a small gripe that I won’t mention because it’s stupid but overall a fantastic reading experience.

I found this series on an insta post and instantly became intrigued. The guy is a yandere who absolutely adores his love interest and is very protective of her. The story is set in Japan in an early dynasty (I don't remember which) and the fmc was kidnapped and is trying to get home. I read the first four books in like 2 hours at Indigo while waiting for the traffic to die down a bit and truly had the best of times. Now I have to wait for the next four books to come out in English next year and it pisses me off. I'm considering learning Japanese just so I can continue the series

My problem is there’s just a LOT of man-child behavior in this series. Whenever Shinpei causes a scene or hurts someone, it’s always Satoko’s fault. She made him mad. She caused a misunderstanding. She should’ve considered his feelings first.

BUT, nothing is ever Shinpei’s fault.

Even when he hurts Satoko, it’s not his responsibility because she made him do it somehow. There’s a name for that—and it’s not romance.

That’s just not attractive to me~

When I was younger, these types of stories intrigued me. I thought that I liked the jealous type when it came to guys. As an adult, I noticed more red flags than him liking her. Although there are tender moments in the story, it is very problematic. In reality, we shouldn’t hold these types of relationships between couples as romantic. There is something obviously wrong with the mmc. The art is top notch. I really enjoyed this style of drawing.

Will I continue the series? Yes. I am curious to see how the arc ends.

"Aren't you afraid of me?"
"I was, yes. But... what scares me more is the thought of being so far away from you!"
"But you were going to leave me here."
"I don't want to be apart from you!"

3/23/26 2nd read review:

Such a great installment! I still really enjoy it as much as I did the first time. I really like when the cracks begin to show in their relationship and they have to patch things up together. Even though Shinpei is very toxic, I do appreciate how freaked out he gets at the idea of Satoko leaving him, and how jerked around, jealous, and insecure he feels. It makes the moments of clear communication and talking about their feelings all the more rewarding.

Because he gets insecure, it forces Satoko to actually examine and think about her feelings for him. I also appreciate her conflict of still thinking she wants to marry for her family, while her heart is clearly leading her in a different direction. It just feels so real and human to be so confused and wishy-washy, saying one thing while doing another.

I do also love Kotaro. He's just a good boy. You can tell both he and Satoko are very much of the mind of their culture and class(es). Doing the "right thing" means staying on the path that has been laid out for you... but is that really the "right thing" for everyone involved? Will Satoko really be happy repaying her family? And isn't that basically the same as agreeing that she has been a burden her whole life, that her only dream needs to be repaying her father? It's cool to watch characters be challenged in the ways of thinking that they've been raised to have. I feel refreshed watching these kids work out their feelings.

Original 11/12/25 Review:

Satoko and Shinpei's tender moments in this are so nice, I love the way they are falling more and more for each other ;-;
I just can't get over how this manga has one of the best art styles I've ever seen. Each panel is such a treat, and it really elevates the story. Tachibana-sensei is so amazing!!!
