Marcus is a Cupid. Lena is a Reaper. Opposites attract in the exciting new Switched At First Kiss series by the acclaimed author of The Dirt Diary.
When she's dared to kiss the adorkable Marcus Torelli at a party, Lena thinks it's the perfect opportunity to cross First Kiss off her list of "Things to Accomplish Before I Turn Fourteen."
It's only when she gets sent on an assignment the next day that she realizes something went horribly wrong. That ZING she felt wasn't the thrill of her first kiss--she and Marcus have swapped powers! Lena is not your average eighth grader; she's a soul collector with a serious job to do. And Marcus turns out to be a supernatural matchmaker (like Cupid, but without the diaper).
Now logical Lena finds herself with the love touch, and sweet, sentimental Marcus has death at his fingertips. The truth is that Lena should never have taken that dare...because one little kiss has Lena and Marcus in a whole lotta trouble.

This book was not my favorite. I thought that it was a very consistent book and kept on the same topic. I wish it had more about other characters feelings.
I’m With Cupid is a book about a reaper and a cupid who switch powers on their first kiss. After Marcus and Lena switch powers, everything is chaotic. Marcus has the powers to take souls and Lena gets the powers to machmake. They have to make sure they don’t touch anyone or else some bad things can happen. It is hard at home to not touch anyone, but, at school, it is harder for them. Anna Staniszewski, makes this book fun and exciting! There are a lot of stuff in this book that I enjoyed! There are a couple chapters that are a little more slow, but, when you put them all together, it makes sense. Even with some parts being slow, this book was not boring. It was fun to read! This is a book where you would most likely laugh. In ways, I can connect to Marcus and in other ways, I can connect with Lena. People who like love stories should read this book. This book was a good book to read! Sometimes you have to talk to people you wouldn't usually talk to. You may not even know anything about them. You might not have seen this person before. That person you talk to may end up becoming your best friend. This book tells you a story kind of like that. It is a good book!
My first introduction to Anna Staniszewski's writing was The Dirt Diary, which was nominated last year in the Realistic Fiction Category of the Cybils. I really enjoyed it and was looking forward to reading another book from her new series which was nominated this year.
In this newest series, I'm with Cupid, she has an interesting twist on the premise of switching up two characters. I'm pretty familiar with the body swapping idea from movies like Thirteen Going on Thirty, Freaky Friday or It's a Boy Girl Thing. You know the one where a thirteen year old girl becomes a thirty year old women, or a mother and daughter or boy and girl swap bodies. I'm With Cupid isn't quite that kind of swap, instead the characters swap powers when they are dared to kiss at a party. You see Marcus is a Cupid and Lena is a reaper. As you can probably guess, this results in some pretty humorous consequences. What I enjoyed most about the book was how they really were such opposites of one another and their swap really brought them face to face with the thing they've been avoiding themselves. Marcus was so adorably shy, awkward and hopelessly smitten with Lena (for which she has no clue), he's also been holding on to things because he can't let them go. He's emotional, for which he took way to much flack from his father over. Being a Cupid, he believes in love at first sight, romance and there is someone out there for everyone. Whereas, Lena doesn't believe in love or such fairy tale things. She feels she is practical, well adjusted and grounded over ideas like moving on and that death is just a part of life. Her approach to things is very different then that of Marcus, which just makes things more interesting and difficult for the two of them when they have to adjust to their new found powers. Lena and Marcus have to really communicate with each other about having powers and teach each other how to use them correctly. So you can imagine there are some mishaps when you put a reaper in charge of sparking attraction between two people and then also put Cupid in charge of collecting souls. Overall a very quick read and sweet introduction to a new series.
I received a review copy for the purposes of its nomination for the Cybils award, and my review reflects my personal opinion, not the opinion of the Cybils committee.
I received a free copy of this book via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I found this book quirky and sweet. Lena and Marcus alternated POV's which was great because you got to see both sides of how the powers were meant to work and how exactly they went wrong. It's kinda like freaky Friday with powers instead of body swapping.
Lots of havoc was had and the hierarchy of reapers and cupids was interesting, made perfect sense. I did wonder a little how their families didn't notice they were out all the time since they were still quite young.
I loved how the story unfolded, it was a little juvenile but it suited the story, it was about learning powers, first loves and growing up.
The romance between Lena and Marcus was good since it wasn't insta-love, they had known each other for a while. It progresses at a good pace with a few bumps that only teenagers can come across.
Overall it was a sweet read and I would carry on the series.
A great balance of humor, drama, fantasy and romance make this a fantastic middle grade book, especially for girls. The author revealed just enough in each chapter to convince me I had to read the next chapter and before I knew it I had read the entire book in one sitting. The characters felt like authentic middle school students, despite their special powers, and I really felt attached to the two protagonists by the end. Intriguing ending that left me itching to read the next book in the series.
This book is VERY different from the dirt diary series Anna Staniszewski wrote. I really liked this book like everyother book she wrote. This book relates to My very un fairy tale series because there is a girl or on this case a guy and a girl whk have these special powers help people/magical people. Lena's is taking people souls from their bodies and Marcus's is maming people fall and love with a spark of light. All of this happened because of a dare to kiss.
I thought the book was outstanding . The way Lena developed as a character way very nice bout the book . Also, the way that she got herself together and found away to get her powers back . I would say that the characters played their part well. The book was very descripted and whenever I was reading it I could see the book playing in my head.
This book is very good. It was very good and the end was very good and it was also a good cliffhanger. So I would recommend this book to a person who likes magic or stuff that is not really real.

Heather's Notes This was a really cute story. I liked how Marcus and Lena met. I liked the plot and the secondary characters were interesting without overshadowing the main characters. It is definitely a teen/young adult book, but not so young that an adult could not enjoy it. Not sure if I will keep reading the series or not.
Overall I liked this book. It was cute and enjoyable. However, I thought that it was unnecessary for the author to make Marcus' life so terrible. It was bad enough that his father was that guy that was a jock and couldn't deal with his son not being one. Plus his sister was that annoying overachiever who took pride in knowing that she was more liked by the dad then he was. On top of that the author was like hey let's have him get beat up and picked on everyday by a bully. It was horrible and I felt there was no need for all that. I did like Lena and I'm so glad that she was there for Marcus to help him through everything.
I honestly have a thing for this teenage drama so I wanted to see what this was all about. I come to learn that a 13-year-old girl named Lena has a list of what to do before she turns fourteen. There's teenage drama, dumb romance to be honest and just kind of interesting to read. Reading these kinds of drama teenage books get me wanting to read more unless there immature. Somewhat this story had detail but somewhat very immature.
3 stars because Lena was very very very annoying, hard to read in her POV and there was a part where they have a fight because Marcus needs to release his Grandfather's soul and he says Lena is a robot and they argue then she turns around and helps??? But Marcus was sweet except how did that Caspar bully dude grow twice in size and why did he not die?
It was cute, but it took me until towards the end to really start to like the characters. They had to grow up a little and mature. Interested to read the next one.
Okay for elementary and middle school. Romance Fiction
Who knew a kiss could cause so much trouble. The day after Marcus and Lena are dared to kiss at a party, they discover they have acquired unwelcome abilities. How can they fix things? This is a fun read with endearing characters!
This book was super awesome!! I totally loved everything from the plot to how both Lena and Marcus act with or without each other. I also liked the concept that the author was switching chapters like first went Marcus’s chapter and then Lena’s.
Cute, easy middle grades romance/coming of age story with a light fantasy element. Both characters are winning and their powers - matching up couples and helping people die peacefully - make for interesting complications.
