Downton Abbey came to a heartfelt conclusion last month when the third feature film ‘The Grand Finale’ was released in cinemas. Although my heart was broken that the franchise I’ve adored for a decade has come to a close, the movie felt like a wonderful celebrating and gave a satisfying ending.
I love the coffee-table style books that have spanned from the series, and the ‘Official Film Companion’ collection are all beautiful for readers.
Unlike its predecessors, this book not only focuses on the film itself, but also pays tribute to the Downton Abbey franchise itself, revisiting old storylines and the history of the show which I really appreciated. It felt like a fitting occasion to reflect on its legacy as well as taking us behind the scenes to the finale feature film.
It’s packed with Behind The Scenes stories and photos, celebration of character-arcs, gives an insight into the costume development and the locations used. I really enjoy seeing these snippets into the life of Downton and this final book was a great read.
The book itself is fabulous quality. Within the large hardback are high-quality stills on silky matt pages which give a luxurious feel. These books will stand the test of time on your bookshelves.
Great companion piece to the current film. After reading it, I realized there were some things I missed while watching the film (LOTS of content in all the films), so I watched it again last night. The book is filled with beautiful photographs and a must for DA fans.
