I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I felt like the title of this book was a little confusing. I thought it was going to be a psychology book but it was a New Age book. I'm not saying that it was not a good read. I found some helpful points/ideas in the book. It was just very different from what I thought the book was going to be from the title.
I read a lot of books on self care, self help, self love, types of books that give positive self talk or give you meditation routine or other relatable tips to live a more balanced life. This book definitely took a different approach. For example look at this quote “Have mercy on the weak, but do not contribute to their downfall in life.” - I know we are all supposed to help weak people, but at the same time, I started to hear that you should not help the weak, because this way this person will not get stronger. Ideology in this book definitely speaks to me at this stage of my life. This book is not related to religious ideologies or promotes any of them of balanced life. That hooked me, because at this part of my life, I do not want to associate having a peaceful life with religious reasoning - and this book was exactly this.
Overall, this book is like a guide of how to balance their life through different strategies that have common sense and are relatable to real life. Also this book is a more practical guide rather than theoretical - keep that in mind. Definitely give this book a try.
I wanted this book to be helpful and insightful. It was uninspiring and poorly thought out. I gave up on it after suffering through the first 1/3 of the book. It felt more like they heard that “emotional intelligence” is the new buzzword so they came up with their own definition and ideas in an attempt to make themselves feel important. Most people can’t identify their emotions or why we feel the way we feel. Not addressing that is a huge error by the author. Also, even if we could identify our emotions we aren’t honest enough with ourselves to admit we need fixed.
The goal of this book is to “shake up your thought patterns” to make space for your true purpose. Self forgiveness is important to be able to open oneself up to truth. It allows you to live your life with grace, gratitude and respect for yourself and others. Fear provides an opportunity for you to grow and gain strength. Choose the path that makes you happy. There are many interesting ideas in this book, but it feels like it’s full of platitudes. When discussing it with a friend I told her I wondered what kind of mushrooms the author was smoking. I found it difficult to get through.
A lot of basic knowledge collected into one book. An easy read or listen with some interesting ideas. I liked how the chapters were separated because if you wanted more information about a certain section, you’d be able to flip through and decide what stood out to you most. I liked the questions at the end of each chapter and would like to take more time to go through them. I would definitely give this book another read in the future.
I liked this quite a bit. It's a bit woowoo in some parts, but the message is solid and I appreciated that. I'm already trying to implement some of the guidance.
