The Redeemed

The Redeemed (Sarah Roberts Book Eleven)

Four Catholic priests have been murdered in Los Angeles, each killed in a different way. Each priest’s name is carved into a small crucifix found with the body. Someone with a deep-rooted hatred of Catholicism is targeting priests with a suspected history of deviant behavior.
The lead detective, David Hirst, calls on his friend Parkman for help and asks if he could bring Sarah Roberts along. Since Sarah is on a quest to redeem herself with her colleague Parkman after she had let him down in the past, she agrees to go to L.A. and do whatever she can to aid in the investigation.
When they arrive, they head straight to the crime scene of yet another dead priest. With Sarah’s history of antagonizing cops, and a recent feature in newspapers around North America regarding the death of a Canadian officer, the LAPD don’t want her help. Within days, Hirst regrets his decision and asks Sarah and Parkman to leave.
But the killer has other plans. According to the Bible, since Sarah is an automatic writer and talks to her dead sister, she is a practitioner of witchcraft and she works for the devil. Therefore she has to die, too.
Before she has a chance to leave L.A., the priest killer has carved her name into a small crucifix.
What he has in store for her is reminiscent of Eve in the Garden of Eden, a snake and a very painful way to die.
Sarah has the will to live, the tenacity to fight, and a little help from her sister on the other side as Vivian digs deep to change the way she sends messages to Sarah.
But channeling through Sarah’s body and whispering to her takes a toll on Sarah, and she begins to feel and see Vivian’s thoughts and memories. While Sarah fights to save herself, she’s also trying to save her sanity as two vie for her consciousness.

Who needs a Netflix marathon when you have a Jonas Saul book? Like the previous Sarah Roberts books, each one is better than the last (and they are all great!). I like that Jonas Saul writes in a way that you can visualize the story as if it was being played out in front of you. He doesn't rely on fluff or fillers to set the scene, his writing does it all. I enjoy his books as much as I enjoy early Dean Koontz writings. Saul is definitely a favorite author! Now to patiently wait for book 12.

Another sleepless night! I could not put this down - as soon as I downloaded it I began reading! Mr. Saul served up yet another GREAT Sarah Roberts thriller!

SPOILER ALERT

I was surprised by the anomisity between her and Parkman. They seem to be starting their relationship from scratch. Parkman deeply hurt Sarah and must earn back Sarah's trust. Aaron is more visable in this book, they have such a unique relationship. The love and trust seem to be there but something seems to be missing. Sarah thinks of Aaron often, but she is too busy staying alive to give the relationship her full attention. Aaron is truly a partner to stick around and wait for her - or should I say, share her with Vivian? I love the new "twist" to Sarah and Vivian's relationship and can not wait to see how this develops in the next book...please let there be a next book.

OK … the newest submission in the Sarah Roberts series - The Redeemed - is mind boggling … one confrontation after another … as the team of Sarah, Parkman, and Aaron, assisted by (and I use the word assisted loosely – hindered by could also be considered) the L.A. police, encounter a ‘misguided’ priest in the Catholic Church. Half way through the book I thought it was over, and that I had been cheated, thinking the remaining ‘pages’ were filler. Nope … just a prelude for the next phase … and so it went as I was three-quarters of the way through … and then seven-eighths of the way through. The guy just would not die! Like your thrillers with twists and turns, and never ending scenarios? Then this book … and this series … is right up your alley. Kudos, Jonas Saul … you’ve done it again!

As with all the Sarah Roberts books, 'Redeemed' was awesome. The storyline pulled me in from the beginning and didn't let go. I couldn't put it down. The way this book played out was intense. There was so much truth behind the atrocities that have occurred throughout the years pertaining to religion and the knowledge within the churches that 'handle it internally'. That being said, overall, this book is not based on condemning religion. It's a great story full of action, suspense, thrilling scenes and the help of Sarah's dead sister. The characters are great. Parker and Aaron are essential to Sarah and they make an amazing team. I love this series. I look forward to reading the next installment. A great add to your tbr list. Highly recommended.

Good with reservations

I enjoyed most of the book. However, the negative implications about religion in general were disappointing to me. I have had experiences, like Sarah, in hearing the dead speak to me, but unlike Sarah and Jonas Saul, my beliefs as a Christian are a fundamental part of my spirit. I have personally witnessed and experienced events that only came through the will of God.

Keeping the faith

Jonas has again kept me on the edge of my seat. So many scenes ring true with experiences and feelings on this adventure. I love the clever way things always seem to unravel and the impossible situations Sarah gets herself into. Like all the ones prior this is a true page Turner.

I have mixed feelings about this book, and caution myself about judging it when I haven't read the early books in the series.
Sarah Roberts can communicate with her dead sister, who gives her information and warnings to aid in the capture of criminals and keeping Sarah alive. Makes the story more than a bit interesting.

Two problems I had with the book - Sarah goes off a bit on her viewpoint of religion for a while in one part. The author did explain why he did that in his notes, but it felt jarring and a bit preachy to me. BTW, if you are adamantly pro-Catholic, you may not like this book.

Second problem was Sarah was a bit too super-hero, bionic woman for me. Injured, crippled, didn't matter, she was an incredible fighter and planner.

All that said, the plot itself, even without any of the paranormal stuff, was suspenseful and the writing well done. I'll probably go back and read some of the earlier one in the series to get a better feel if I want to commit myself to following Sarah's adventures.

Very suspenseful

Sarah is in recovery for her broken ankle from her latest episode. She is hoping to go back to Santa Rosa and spend time with Aaron and just relax and heal. Then she gets a phone call from Parkman. He has a buddy in L.A. with a serious priest homicide going on and he has no idea which way to turn. He has heard of Sarah and wishes they would come down to see if they can help.
I must say that so far this is the most suspenseful book so far. Things real don't look good. Sarah and Parkman are both at wits end. They both have injuries but they are not giving up. Aaron comes to help and to protect Sarah and Parkman.
It gets ugly but they won't quit until the end.
I read this book in one day, then I couldn't sleep.

Probably a 2.5, but I usually like the Sarah Roberts books. Except for the author's interesting account of spirituality, the writing, and especially the dialogue, seemed forced in this novel. It didn't flow or feel genuine, which made it difficult to enjoy the book. Hopefully the next installment will be better.

How you look at things differently.

This is a great opportunity to explore your inner feelings and emotions that moves you to think a rational way. Some people look at religion way different than others, just keep your own beliefs and don't let others sway or bully you and try to change you to theirs. This is a great book you will enjoy it immensely.

After the Antagonist, I thought Sarah couldn't suffer any more pain, Well!! I was wrong. Great book as always. I enjoyed the discussion on religion. I feel the same, let me believe what I am and please don't force me to believe what you do.........
