John Lindley Byrne is a British-born Canadian-American author and artist of comic books. Since the mid-1970s, Byrne has worked on nearly every major American superhero.

Byrne's better-known work has been on Marvel Comics' X-Men and Fantastic Four and the 1986 relaunch of DC Comics’ Superman franchise. Coming into the comics profession exclusively as a penciler, Byrne began co-plotting the X-Men comics during his tenure on them, and launched his writing career in earnest with Fantastic Four (where he also started inking his own pencils). During the 1990s he produced a number of creator-owned works, including Next Men and Danger Unlimited. He also wrote the first issues of Mike Mignola's Hellboy series and produced a number of Star Trek comics for IDW Publishing.

I'd always had a rather high opinion of Steve Englehart's writing, although this is too wildly inconsistent to be considered anything other than mediocre. I'll just say it. Silver Surfer is hardly the most interesting character. He really needs a much stronger ensemble to really elevate him beyond C tier, though we certainly don't get that here. There were fit's and starts throughout, though the Kree/Skrull war II was poorly done and a weak achoring plot to have running throughout the book.
The art and colours were stellar throughout for the most part, though when Joe Rubenstien left inking duties, it was never the same.
The highlight is the Stan Lee/ John Buscema graphic novel near the end, and if I'm praising something written by Stan Lee, you know I really mean it.
Overall though, this can't be seen as anything other than disappointing. 2.75/5

It's always fascinating to see how other people reinterpret an old favorite. This volume provides such insights with one of Marvel's most distinctive characters. I often didn't care for what those writers did, but I enjoyed studying it, and the art was often spectacular.

One of the best Omnis ever. SS is one of the noblest characters in history and Ron Lim's artwork is the pinnacle of the genre. I absolutely loved this book!
