Pretty good fantasy read with some sword and sorcery elements. Very fast paced. Some pretty basic stuff. I liked it enough to see how the swordsman protagonist fares after the defeat of the Warlock. On to the second book.

Twisty tale. Leaves you wanting ten more books. Loved the raw sword fights and the ironic twists and turns, the sorcerous pyrotechnics and dark spell-weaving. There's a depth to this story that makes it a page turner. Like how a dark magician goes about unfolding power. And a strong moral in the consequences of misusing powers and making pacts with demons. Not your typical sword and sorcery tale. Looking forward to reading more in the series!

This book does doesn’t slow down for anything. The main character is under constant pressure dodging the spells of a sinister wizard. The magic is dark & ruthless, the battles bloody, the stakes high, and yet there’s an underlying current of passion and humility to it all in the swordsman’s love affair with the apprentice. A nice mix. Enjoyed this tons!

Chris Turner does a fantastic job in writing this fantasy novel, it had that element that I was expecting and enjoyed about the genre. The characters had that feel that I was hoping for and was invested in what was happening.

Sound plotting, brilliant characters. A lot is packed into this Conan-ish, blood and dagger tale: sword fights, seduction, dark sorcery, demonic pacts, sexual magic, politics, intrigue and dark ambition. The author weaves it all together in a very enjoyable mix. Five stars!
