Charlie Pierce was born to hunt the relics of dead gods. Jack Slade was sent to hunt her.

Charlie Pierce doesn't want to die. Just beyond the mortal border of her home, the Spiritwoods has claimed so many her father, her boyfriend, Noah, and countless other Collectors who went searching for the dead Celestials' unspeakable power. But it's her rightful turn to join the annual Hunt―entering the Spiritwoods, where the Collectors’ Society will determine her worth―and she refuses to back down. Not when it's the only way to get answers about the ones she's lost.

Jack Slade has a mission of his own―kill Charlotte Pierce before she puts together the pieces of a puzzle that could ruin his family completely. No one will question another heir lost to the Hunt. That's what his father says, at least.

When a violent storm scatters this year's initiates across the Spiritwoods, Charlie and Jack are forced into an unlikely alliance to find a Celestial vessel and escape the ever-changing realm of the gods before it's too late. But as they venture across deadly, magical terrain, the line between enemy and ally begins to blur. Charlie realizes that Jack isn’t who she always believed...

And neither is she.

Katherine Quinn is a fantasy romance author and poet. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in psychology. She resides in Houston, Texas with her husband and children.

Her love for writing began after she read her first fantasy series, Song of the Lioness, by Tamora Pierce. After that, she wanted nothing more than to be a dagger-wielding heroine. Unfortunately, it’s frowned upon to give a child a dagger, so she settled on writing about daring adventures instead.

Coffee is her true love, and she believes anything can be fixed with Starbucks and dark humor.

Wow. Just WOW.

The blurb for this book made it sound like a little adventure with a side of magic. Nope. It was SO much more than that!

At its heart, this is a story about finding yourself after breaking free from abusive relationships, learning to trust yourself, and discovering who you are when you finally get to choose your own path. And both of our main characters go through these journeys, even though they walk very different roads. I loved that this was such an important part of the story.

Charlotte is a relic hunter. It's in her blood. Jack is the enemy, from another family, a family that wants her dead. And what follows is a TRUE Young Adult enemies-to-lovers story. If you enjoyed the Mistlands duology by Katherine Quinn, you are absolutely going to want to pick this one up!

Now, because this is Young Adult, there is no spice. However, there are a couple of heavy "petting" scenes, so I'd put this one toward the older end of the YA crowd.

The story does start a little slowly, but honestly, it needed to. There was a lot of worldbuilding and character development that NEEDED to happen to give us the story we ultimately got. And it was worth it! Once everything gets moving, there are twists and turns I absolutely did not see coming.

And THAT ENDING!

I don't know if this is the beginning of a series, but I REALLY hope it is. Not because it ended on a cliffhanger, because it didn't, but because I am not ready to say goodbye to these characters. I need to know what happens to them after that ending!

Highly, HIGHLY recommended. Come for the adventure and magic, stay for the emotional journey, the enemies-to-lovers romance, and the characters who will leave you wanting more!

I absolutely loved this book! 😍 From the fantastic world building to the totally gripping storyline, I was hooked and completly invested in the characters from start to finish.
Charlie and Jack were brilliant together and I loved the enemies to lovers dynamic between them. The rivalry, tension and unexpected alliances made their journey even more excitingwhile the secrets and dangers lurking within the Spiritwoods kept me wanting to read just one more chapter far too late into the night!
Full of adventure, mystery, magic and twists, this was such an entertaining read and it left me wanting more. I really hope there is next because I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters yet!
A definite five star read that I’d happily recommend to fantasy and romantasy lovers

First a thank you to Entangled Publishing: Mayhem Books and NetGalley for the early read. I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure that had a Divergent series, Hunger Games feel to it.
Charlie Pierce and Jack Slade are born to hunt relics of The Celestials in the Spiritwoods. Their families have been at odds with each other for years. Both have known loss. Most recently the Spiritwoods claimed her boyfriend Noah. The time has come for them and other heirs they know to hunt for relics. The Spiritwoods are a magical place and it’s not long before Charlie and Jack are thrown together and form an unlikely alliance. Fourteen days to find a relic and return, but along the way secrets from both of their pasts begin to come out and Noah reappears. Will their newfound trust and relationship survive and will they return home? Those are the big questions in this page turner. And lastly for the reader…. Will there be another chapter to their story? I certainly hope so.

The Golden Huntress is an adventure that I was not ready to finish and hope that there is a sequel. Charlie has trained her whole life to be a Collector and has come of age to participate in the Hunt which will show whether she joins the group or is exiled from the society. Jack is also in the hunt and has been Charlie's biggest rival her whole life, but all bets are off once you are in the Hunt and your life is on the line. Will Charlie survive the hunt and will her beliefs stay the same or will everything be turned on its head?

The Golden Huntress is filled with adventure and mystery and kept me turning pages to find out what happened next. The enemies to lovers was well played out and the tension between Charlie and Jack is great. Depending on the location, the book could be appropriate for a high school, but there is one scene where groping is described in detail. The book does contain some strong language. I really hope there is another book to come.

THE GOLDEN HUNTRESS follows Charlotte Pierce, a Collector initiate who must enter the legendary Spiritwoods in search of ancient celestial power to join the Collector’s Society. But when a storm forces her to form an unlikely alliance with her longtime rival, Jack Slade, they must navigate the perilous terrain of the Spiritwoods, along with their own inconvenient, growing feelings for each other…

I adored Charlotte as a character. She’s very witty and quiet with a dry sense of humor. I’m very introverted, so even though I love reading about bubbly FMCs, I can rarely find a character like Charlotte that I truly see myself in.

Her relationship with Jack was perfection! I appreciated that nothing in their relationship felt rushed. The development from rivals to friends, to perhaps something more felt very earned. (I was eating up all the banter!)

I also liked how this upper YA book didn’t hold back from tackling big issues that young people need to be aware of, such as recognizing toxic relationships and past verbal and emotional abuse. I think Charlotte’s story of healing and finding herself again will speak to a lot of people.

The concept and world-building gave me slight Indiana Jones vibes at times, which I absolutely LOVED! My only complaint was that toward the end of the book, the magic system felt slightly ungrounded and a bit too dark for my personal taste.

Overall, though, this book pulled me out of a reading slump and reminded me just how much fun YA fantasy can be! : )

Thank you to Entangled Teen/Mayhem Books, Katherine Quinn, and Net Galley for the advanced E-ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

THE GOLDEN HUNTRESS releases on December 1, 2026.

This was an excellent book with an amazing plot and one of the best FMC's I've had the pleasure of reading about.
Seeing Charlotte grow from a meek character to someone so confident and powerful was absolutely marvelous. In the beginning, alot of her actions and thoughts revolved around Noah and her father, and as time passes, she eventually starts tapping into her own thoughts and feelings. Jack plays a pretty pivotal role in her growth as well, and I loved getting to see them move from enemies to reluctant friends to lovers. Also taking a moment to note how Charlie and Jack were both opposites and yet could understand each other so well!! I absolutely loved their dynamic.
Charlie's mother was a rather surprising character, and that ending shocked me. Noah also has me very curious because he's obviously not a good guy but is he a villain? I honestly can't wait to know more about him and Anna.
Another thing I loved was how the relationship between Noah and Charlie was portrayed. The emotional abuse and controlling behaviour was so subtle, and when you are emotionally vulnerable like Charlie, people like Noah seem like your saviours. I'm so glad she had a friend like Surrey and Jack who helped her break free from that toxic man.
Overall, this book was wonderful. It slowed a little in the middle but the ending more than made up for everything. Loved it!!

What an adventure this book took me on! I was completely swept away into a world of magic, love, secrets, and adventure, and I loved every moment of it!

Intense love triangle! On one side, we have someone whose love is possessive, who wants to mold you into someone you’re not. And on the other, we have someone who loves you for exactly who you are, flaws and all, and embraces every part of your true self.

Oh, the cheesy, sappy banter had me smiling and giggling like a fool! I don’t care how cheesy it gets. Give me all the sweet moments, stolen glances, and heartfelt words, and I will swoon every single time!

The world-building takes us on an adventure through a magical world created by Celestials, where we’re searching for ancient relics and uncovering family secrets that run deeper than anyone could have imagined. I loved how the adventure and the mysteries intertwined, revealing little pieces of the bigger picture along the way.

The crazy roller coaster twists had me up late finishing the book. I couldn’t put it down!

A huge thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book! All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Loved reading the mesmerizing and spellbinding story. Even though Charlie's dad and boyfriend, Noah, have died going into the Spiritwoods, she goes in with her best friend and finds an unlikely alliance with her family's enemy, Jack. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written full of mystery and suspense, and a must read riveting story.

I really enjoyed this book! The beginning was a bit slow but I enjoyed the many gods and the back story. I also really enjoyed the mystery around her dad. And who doesn’t like to hate a character? I meaaaaaan that guy is definitely the worst and he got what he deserved. The character development was chef’s kiss.
