Heart Rehab: Finding the You God Created You to Be

Rate this book
The pastor and founder of Redefined TV offers a transformative journey to self-love and healing, revealing how addressing our inner struggles is the key to loving others and fulfilling God's purpose.

Heart Rehab helps you move from hurt to healing, and guides you through a process to repair the hole in your soul—and become whole.”—Jon Gordon, bestselling author of The Energy Bus and The Carpenter

When our inner world feels messy and out of control—we’re stuck in damaging patterns, haunted by traumatic memories, struggling in relationships—it’s tempting to imagine worst-case scenarios and exhaust ourselves by trying to bury the brokenness and put on a happy heart.

Sound familiar? If you are worn out from the pain of unhealed wounds clouding your mind and stealing your joy, Jerry Flowers, Jr., invites you to pause, breathe, and dare to believe that God’s destiny for you is much more than merely settling and surviving.

Heart Rehab offers a respite, a caring shoulder, an encounter with the transforming power of the Great Physician. The grace and truth within these pages will meet you in your deepest hurts, quiet your crowded soul, and fill you anew with strength and hope. As you engage the wisdom here, a revived version of you will emerge—one

• finds healing from past trauma and loss;
• breaks free from overthinking and catastrophizing;
• grows in trust of God’s good plans;
• navigates relationships with wisdom and confidence; and
• learns to love God, yourself, and others from a place of wholeness.

This refreshing reality awaits on the other side of your heart rehabilitation.

I have never heard of Jerry Flowers Jr, but I found the title of the book interesting and the description very relatable for my own life. All I can say is wow! The book explores the different issues we face with problems of the heart that lead to us not being what God intended for us to be. It’s easy to point the finger at the devil, but in a practical way, Jerry explains our heart problems and where we are could be from several different areas. Each chapter covers in detail his explanation.

I really enjoyed the book because it almost feels like having a conversation with a friend over coffee. Very practical stories and lots of scripture and questions to drive his overall message home.

What I think could have been better is the length of chapters. Some seemed to be repetitive information and even though it was intended to make his message stronger, it slowed the book flow down a lot.

Great book overall. Thanks NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the ebook. All opinions are honestly, unbiased and completely my own.

Powerful and heartfelt

Every since I was lead by the spirit to Pastor Jerry on Youtube, I've been hooked by his passion and love of Christ and to do Gods work by not only reaching and saving souls, but teaching. There are many pastors that save souls, not many teach good Bible wisdom, so that gift can keep on giving. I had high expectations to read this book and I am not disappointed. Just as his sermons and therapy sessions are supported by scripture and omitted of opinions, so is this book. Readers can take in this wisdom knowing it was God breathed and not Jerry thought. What I love most is he doesn't talk at us but to us, the book is a conversation. Pastor Flowers walks with us on a journey to pick up all the tiny pieces of our broken hearts, and just like our father the potter, and our lord and savior Jesus Christ the carpenter, put it back together. But this time make it unbreakable. Heart Rehab reminds me of Tony Stark/Ironman. Tony Stark had a weak heart so he created a suit that not only protected him but also gave him strenght and an ability to fight. Pastor Flowers reinforces to us that our hearts need protection. God is our suit, the bible is our suit, prayer and application is our weaponry. This book will be in my rotation of rereads, and I wait in anticipation for future works. God Bless brother Flowers, his family and all believers of Christ.

Read this as a devotional and without a doubt one of the best redemption-focused Christian books I've ever read.

Reading this with my husband nightly as he focuses on his sobriety, was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Thank you to Jerry Flowers, Jr. for putting this into the world. I will be purchasing and sending to women's shelters and recovery homes. Your words have so much power and completely changed my perspective, as well as my mindset. Healing while doing the work to heal from a lifetime of trauma is not easy. But Flowers writes a beautiful story or testimony, love, healing, and Jesus.

Thank you to Waterbrook Publishing and Netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Heart Rehab is a powerful, faith-centered guide to emotional healing, especially after heartbreak, betrayal, or relational trauma. What makes the book stand out—is how Jerry Flowers Jr. anchors real-life relationship pain in Scripture, using Bible verses not as clichés, but as practical tools for clarity, conviction, and growth.
Flowers frames emotional healing like physical rehabilitation: it’s intentional, sometimes uncomfortable, and absolutely necessary if you want to be whole again. By referencing Scripture throughout, he helps you see familiar Bible passages through the lens of modern relationships, self-worth, boundaries, and forgiveness—making the Word feel immediately relevant rather than abstract.

I really had to take my time with this because each page was filled with solid gem after gem. I am familiar with the way Jerry uses object lessons and practical analogies in his sermons, but they were especially beneficial in this book. It literally has everything I need to know about the foundational steps to healing and transformation, and I liked the connection to real life situations making it a lot easier to understand and apply. Most importantly, every point made was backed up with scripture making it truly edifying and enlightening. This was very well written!

This book is life changing! Each page helped me examine myself thoroughly with the intent to become a better version of myself. It’s an easy read. Not the typical theology driven books. I appreciate the transparency, the boldness, and the authentic genuineness. Never will I be the same!!!
