Mr. Jaguar

Rate this book
--- One day you’ll be pumping my gas ---

Mike Miller’s life has gone to shit. The formerly popular high school quarterback now works at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. The last thing he needs is meeting the guy he used to bully at school and seeing him all sorts of polished up. James is now the proud owner of an amazing silver Jaguar and a self-made millionaire. It seems that the day couldn’t get any worse for Mike, but James ‘Lovelace’ Austin might just turn out to be his golden ticket out of the job he hates.

When James Austin meets Mike Miller, his high school crush and tormentor all in one, working at an old, dirty gas station, it feels as if the stars have finally aligned in his favor. He wants to finally get his revenge on the guy, but when Mike turns out to be gay, the whole afternoon takes a turn for the surreal. Instead of just humiliating Mike at his workplace, James decides to hire him for a weekend at a conference he’s attending. A hot guy by his side is the only accessory James needs to rub his success in the faces of his frenemies.

Only problem is, a gay Mike Miller might be too much of a blast from the past than James ever expected. If James wants his nerdy heart safe from the hunky jock, he needs to keep Mike at arms length. The task would be a lot easier if Mike wasn’t unashamedly hitting on James. Or is it just James’s money Mike is after?

This is kind of like a gay Pretty Woman retelling. It adds a bit of a second-chance love story to the classic plot and features a (former) enemies to lovers trope.

It also has a tiny bit of a revenge plot undertone, if only because the former ‘bully’ (and I use that term loosely, because he wasn’t really), is now the one with no money and no prospects, while the former loser is now rich with a booming career. The dynamic between them has shifted, and henceforth begins this Pretty Woman, or perhaps even Cinderella, type of plot.
I think it worked well for me because both of them were likable and came across as sincere. Their personalities were also quite authentic, and I liked that they both had their own vulnerabilities. The story didn’t ever feel icky or even mean to me. It was... sweet.

This was definitely on the shorter side, but it was still plenty fun. Nonetheless, I do wish it had been a little longer.
I thought it had a really good premise, but I have to admit that the execution felt a little shallow. Overall I enjoyed it, though.

SEX IN A SHACK ALERT!

Broke and destitute, Mike slaves away for minimum wage at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. His prince arrives in a Jaguar. And they ride off into the sunset.

NOT YET.

The prince, James, happens to be the same geek that Mike, then the popular quarterback, bullied in high school. Now James is hot, rich, and successful, and Mike is more Kit de Luca than Vivian.

James, still awkward, wants a pretend boyfriend for a conference weekend, dished with a side of revenge, and Mike has nothing to lose.

What starts as a game turns into licks and kisses.

This is Pretty Woman's snappier, naughtier cousin.

I loved the tension between James and Mike. Mike broke through James's uptight primness and totally rocked paint ball.

And the sex was HAWT!

CUTE, ROMANTIC wrapped in yards of SMEXY, with a totes adorable ending.

Cinder-fucking-rella indeed.

Cross-posted at Outlaw Reviews and at Shelf Inflicted

James Austin owns a Jaguar and has a very successful career. Though he makes a lot of money and lives very comfortably, he has no love life.

Mike Miller works at a shabby gas station fixing other people’s cars, but doesn’t make enough to afford his own.

When James stops in for gas and a wash, he eventually recognizes Mike was football quarterback in high school, and the guy who pushed James in a cold shower while the entire team watched.

Underneath the anger and humiliation hides unresolved lust. James learns that Mike is deeply closeted and his bullying was just an inept attempt to get James to notice him. In spite of Mike's past behavior, James finds he is now very attracted to him.

Mike badly wants out of his job and sorry life, so he accepts James’ offer of $2,000 to accompany him at a weekend conference.

For the rest of the story, both characters thoroughly annoyed me. Though I was tempted to set the story aside for something else, I gradually found myself tolerating the men’s stupid jokes, sexual innuendos, and enjoying their developing feelings. It’s no longer as simple as James flaunting his wealth and Mike obsessing about sex.

One thing that did bother me, though, was the amount of work-shaming going on in this story. Mike may have been a loser in some ways, but it’s not because he has a dead-end, poorly paying job. I was tired of reading about his bitterness and wanted him to act like a professional. Let’s face it – the economy sucks and not everyone can work at a job that pays well and suits his or her abilities and education. There is no shame in washing cars or making sandwiches. So hold your head up and show some pride in your work. Professionals exist at all levels in every field. And remember, people, it’s just a job. We are so much more than our jobs.

The characters redeem themselves in the end and I got a few laughs, so this wasn’t a bad way to kill some time.

This was so so good. The perfect gay Cinderella story with a touch of Pretty Woman thrown in!

Mike Miller was a jock and bully in high school. He made fun of the only out gay kid in school, making the boy's life hell - while secretly lusting over the kid, since Mike was gay too!

description

10 years later, at 27, Mike works at a gas station in the middle of nowhere, with no savings to speak of and no perspective for his future. His outing resulted in his family kicking him out, shattering his life dreams for good.

One day, a handsome guy in a Jaguar appears at the gas station and Mike, all sweaty and shirtless in the hot summer sun, walks up to the newcomer - discovering that Mister Jaguar is in fact James, the kid from high school he used to hate on for being gay.

description

No longer a nerd but all grown up and rich, James recognizes his high school nightmare (and secret wet dream) and doesn't shy away from rubbing Mike's pitiful state under his nose. After all, Mike has a gorgeous body - but literally nothing else in life. After throwing 200 bucks at Mike to watch the guy jerk himself off on the hood of his Jaguar, Mike confesses that he's always been gay too.

Taking the surprising news in, James invites Mike to spend a weekend with him to be his date on a science conference he's attending. Remuneration: 2000 dollars!!

Seeing an opportunity to get a second chance in life, Mike shows his boss the middle finger, throws a package of toilet paper at his head and jumps into James' Jaguar before the old man gets out his gun!

James wonders how Mike will react to the bunch of uptight, pretentious assholes that he needs to entertain at the conference. In any case, both guys are sure in for an experience! And what an amazing opportunity to take revenge on his old high school bully, right?

I absolutely loved these guys! It was a perfect short romance and I actually liked James, even though I usually don't like rich characters too much.
Mike was a total sweetheart, carrying his thoughts on his tongue and not shying away from sending fake porcelain teeth flying at that conference, if necessary.
There were a couple of very very powerful scenes. I absolutely loved the ending! What a powerful image!

I can totally recommend this one! I want more K.A. Merikan!!

5 stars and a favorite!

This is one of the best enemies to lovers MM romances that I have ever read and it is free. FREE!

http://www.mmromancegroup.com/mr-jagu...

It is a combination of a kind of old fashioned Harlequin and Pretty Woman but instead of Edward and Vivian, you will have rich and geeky James and humble but proud Mike.

James had nightmarish high school life because of Mike (the popular quarterback) and his buddies. Being openly gay, James was a subject of bullying. What he didn't know was that Mike was an closet gay who was very much interest in James, but he was behaving so goofily that he destroyed any chances they could have.

James was lucky with his life and now at 27, he is a successful millionaire. And now he is hot!
Mike was not so lucky and after he came out at his family and friends, he ended up at a gas station fixing and washing cars and he is almost a gay-virgin at 27. But he is still hot!
James finds Mike unexpectedly and he offers him money to pretend to be his boyfriend for a weekend.

The story is so much fun! I did not even mind that it is a short one.

So sweet and HAWT!

A squirmy good enemies to lovers story that has great boys' toys in this cinderfella tale. For all of you readers out there that have been wary of Merikan's kink, this is all the sweet loving with the fetish locked away.

Favorite quote:
“I’ll close the door,” he muttered breathlessly, shame and arousal mixing in him like a badly made Jägerbomb.

A Enemies - Lovers fic on the Pretty Woman theme.

A nice enough premise but overall the execution left me cold. Mike Miller comes across as an obnoxious boor. There were moments where I'd really feel for him then it would be spoilt by a comment/attitude expressed. Finding himself in a bad place he's more interested in gaining access to mulitple shags than finding a better job or mode of living. The romance felt more about the expensive Jaeguar than the Mr driving it. In fact first drive of the car showed more feeling than the later first time sex!

Rich and co. It's schoolboy bullying transferred to a corporate setting, unfortunately these buisnessmen sound like imature teenagers. In theory they all stand to make a lot of money off James' invention, in which case they'd be courting him not constantly belittling him and making mr wifey/arse jokes.

I didn't like the characters enough to like the story, for me the glimmers of feel-good were quickly quashed. But it's offered free and for that it gets an extra star.

Having seen some good reviews coming through and this book being free (always a plus) I decided to give it a try.
It’s safe to say I struggled early on with both characters. While I felt sorry for Mike at times I didn’t like him or his attitude the same can be said for James.
But once these two were away from Alberta I settled in, Mike played his public role perfectly and I found I was enjoying this more.
It turned out to be a short hot little read.

Not bad for a shorty. I wasn't sure at the beginning if I was going to like to two MC's, but by the middle of it they had grown on me. I am not a huge fan of short stories. I always feel unsatisfied at the end of them. My feeling's of this usually come from the story not having enough information on the characters or what is happening to make the story make sense. But this one didn't leave me unsatisfied. I felt like you got a sense of their past, present, and future which isn't easy to come by in shorty's. The ending was a bit cheesy for me but I am sure others will think it's quite romantic. But I find a lot of romance stuff to be cheesy. In the end it was enjoyable and worth the read.

“That is funny because the guy you pretend to be is the best boyfriend I’ve had”

I previously stated that The Devil’s Ride: Coffin Nails MC was the sweetest K.A. Merikan book I read. Well, Mr. Jaguar has dethroned it.

Mike, once a popular jock in high school, is now slaving away at a dead-end job and estranged from his family. One day an expensive jaguar drives up at his workplace, the owner? James’ Lovelace’ Austin, the gay nerd he bullied in high school. James needs a handsome arm candy to accompany him to the conference he’s attending, and Mike really needs the money.
“I suppose, but do you want us to be more like the Obamas, or more like the Kardashians?”

“Christ, definitely not like the Kardashians,” growled James, feeling his temples pulsate. “I don’t know… Obamas but less official, I guess?”

This was short and cute enemies-to-lovers story. Mike’s life took a turn for the worse when he came out to his family. Despite coming out he has no experience living as an out out gay man so still has some shame surrounding his sexuality.

I felt bad for him despite his antics and what he did to James in high school, and you can’t blame James for how he acts as well - after all this is his chance to show off his status and successful life to the guy who tormented him. There’s a bit of a Cinderella vibe to the story with a sweet HEA.

He didn’t know what else to say though. Do you wanna do it again?, I love your ass?, Let’s go to Vegas together and get married?

Overall I enjoyed Mr. Jaguar and it’s definitely one of Merikan’s more sweeter stories.

God that was awful.

For a while the badness was entertaining, but gradually it became a tortuous march through a jungle of monstrous similes, into biting swarms of miserably unpleasant people, so when I saw a chance to escape I took it.

For a ridiculous (hot!) version of the cinder-fella trope, try Force of Law (it's like a Harlequin on steroids, but miles better than this dreck).

3 Stars - Sweet a la Cinderella with a romantic feel

Mr. Jaguar is a MM Romance Group freebie (download).
A 100 pages 2014 novella from a "readers" wish to get a romantic tale inspired from a steaming hot photo.

***********************************************************

When James Austin, nowadays a proud owner of an amazing silver Jaguar and a self-made millionaire, meets Mike Miller, his long time ago high school crush and bully all in one, working at an old, dirty gas station, he wants to finally get his revenge on the guy.
‘....when he'd seen James, standing by that Jag, in those shades and the white shirt, in the middle nowhere, Mike had thought he'd seen a mirage, that was how much he was attracted to James.’

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

James decides to hire Mike for a weekend at a conference he’s attending. A hot guy by his side is the only accessory James needs to rub his success in the faces of his frenemies.

***********************************************************

These ”revenge on your old teenage bully” stories always attract me. Especially when the MC by now has turned out to a successful ($$$), attractive (gay) guy and his former parasite still is a rather unsuccessful nobody in their hometown.

Poor, poor Mike. I couldn't but feel sorry for him sometimes. His life hasn't been easy and James kind of strewed more salt in the wound. It was painful to read those parts.

James on the other hand, he still wore around some of that old weak self-esteem. It wasn't teen classmates, but instead some cocky colleagues and business partners who had become the bullies he had around himself now. Money or not, the soul needs balsam, power ....and much love.
Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

A plus to this free short story is that there is NOT just a smexy sex-feast. More thought, content and realistic emotions than expected. This fact, I thanks extra for.

Instead was this a sweeeet read. Quite okay and fast done.

I LIKE - a sweet trifle with a nice message

Ok, I love Cinderfella and enemies to lovers is good too, add in a bit of revenge, second chances and I'm game.
* although I could have done with a tad more revenge on certain people* lol

I wasn't the biggest fan of either MC throughout the first half of the story, but I did understand why they behaved how they did, but somewhere along the way I started really wanting to see them make it! I was keeping my fingers crossed they would get their heads out of their respective behinds and actually talk to each other.
I ignored Mike staying in his situation so long and James not working on his self esteem before and just went a long for the ride.
It was actually a pretty sweet story and another great LL contribution.

You guys, it's KA Merikan, so you know it's going to be hot.

Sigh.

Although I do love the dark and twisted tales from these authors, it turns out they do sweet and fun just as well. The angst isn't really angsty, and there are no big surprises here. It's a fun, hot, satisfying story.

I very much enjoyed it, but if you guys want me I'll be over here in the corner pining for my dark and twisted KA Merikan stories.

My take: a hokier version of Pretty Woman except, y’know, Mike’s not an actual hooker. He’s just a dumb jock down on his luck when the high school, gay nerd happens to stop at the Vega Gas & Motel in his bright, shiny, new Jag. Kind of prophetic considering James did tell him one day he would, in fact, be pumping his gas.

The Merikans do seem to have a soft spot for characters that aren’t very bright. What Mike does have going for him, aside from his hot bod is his bluntness. I chuckled when he said he wanted to “bury his face in it and sleep there” when referring to James’s ass. I got the big eyes AND snortled when he laid this gem on James:

“That was great, I’m gonna fuck you so hard tonight if you win more cash.”

I gotta hand it to the dude. He’s got shock value down to a fine art, though I’m not quite sure Michelle Obama would ever say that to her man. In public. Well, maybe…

The trope of enemies to lovers is tried and true. Taking it all the way back to high school and the nerd redeeming himself AND turning out to be a hottie was enjoyable. I'm glad James and Mike worked out their problems and they're happy together. For now. I'm not sure I really liked either one of them, though. Some of the antics with the conference douchebags got old. I did quite enjoy the paint ball expedition and the shack. Quite.

All told, the Merikans delivered on the prompter’s request and my thanks to them for participating in the LL event.

I found this really enjoyable. Mike is a terrific character: a true slacker, immature, impulsive, at times idiotic, not above self-pity, but always refreshingly unpretentious and genuine. The scene where he settles scores at Walmart was sublime. I also really liked Jamie, a guy who made it huge but is so insecure he hires people to pick out his clothes, car, and to pretend to be his date. Both felt more authentic than a lot of romance characters. The same cannot be said for the conference "frenemies" who were straight out of cartoon land.

But all in all, I was impressed by how successfully Merikan was able to sell the Pretty Woman/Cinderfella plotline, which is not exactly the stuff of Zolaesque realism. Great addition to the Love's Landscapes event.

Why did I think it would be a good idea to read this story? I should stop reading e-books just because they are available for free via Amazon Kindle. This approach does nothing but constantly disappoint me, because (nearly - I don't want to make generalizations) each one of those freebies wants to convey nothing but entertainment, yet utterly fails while trying to do so.

K.A. Merikan's "Mr. Jaguar" deals with a typical bad boy called Mike Miller coming across the sexy billionaire, James Austin, who has been bullied by Mike years ago in high school. And that's already the entire thing. Despite being a short novel, nothing really happens, and none of the jokes included in the text have been really funny. The only thing I managed to laugh about was how it was supposed to be funny, however ended up being everything but funny. I didn't get into the characters' minds, I didn't get into the story itself, and I especially did not understand the approach the author(s) used with this story. I might have forgiven insta-love, but this one was more like insta-sex, so it did not really leave any room for the characters to be developed in any significant way, especially since the bullying mentioned about the characters' common past did not really take part in the story.

"Mr. Jaguar" is a story to be forgotten easily. More regular M/M readers might like it, though - I didn't.

Hot Pretty Fella!

3.5 Stars.......I liked this one. It definitely reminded me of Pretty Woman. The major difference being that the two MCs knew each other in high school. One, the football quarterback tormented the gay nerd. Now the nerd is rolling in the cash from an invention he created while the jock is a mechanic in a drive-through town in nowhere Texas. Both are gay. Jock is an admitted “gay virgin.”

Said nerd hires the jock he had a crush on to be his fake boyfriend at a conference for $2,000. Now, in Romancelandia, what happens between fake boyfriends? That’s right boys and girls, they get the feelz. Then one of them freaks out, and something else happens to save and validate feelz. Like talking, that’s usually a good one. In this one, there’s a fancy helicopter involved instead of a limo or some such other conveyance.

I mostly liked the MCs. I liked them more as the weekend passed (this is over a couple of days). I still think our jock has many issues to work through, and our genius nerd has a few himself.

I went in with low expectations, and I finished pretty pleased with this book. KA Merikan are hit and miss for me, and I would put this one closer to the hit, more like a graze.

Great freaking cover, though? Right? Like, YUM!!!!!!!! Read this and see him lose his gay v-card, although not his cherry.

This wasn't a huge investment of my time- just a lunch break (+-). One of those books where my expectations went one way and the story took me another way. I blame Martin's review for that!LOL! Love you man! I'm still under the effect of another teasing character. Oh Cole, I want you back!
I was disappointed the book ended so abruptly. I didn't see the attraction develop into a loving relationship and I felt there were a lot more 'bumps' to come for these two before they got their happy ending. Apparently not. And the writhing could have been a bit above the basic.
Okay, I did not hate it, but it didn't knock my socks off. Are you looking for a short, free, soap-operish story as a more heated version of Pretty Woman about a washed up High School jock and the nerd whose life he made torture, and very easy to read? Look no further.

Meh, this story wasn't for me. The type of humor used is not the sort that I find funny, and neither character really appealed to me. I quickly lost count of the number of times Mike groaned and pouted - seemed like that's all he ever did. I thought their behavior was too ridiculous to be believable so I really couldn't get into the story.

*** This is the story of the school's gay kid who gets picked on, and the guy who should have stopped or helped. Now they are adults, and meet again.
Big, beefy, brown haired Mike, 27,

is working at a gas station in their small town. He didn't have advantages after his folks threw him out.
James, 27, is now successful, rich,

and drives his Jaguar into the station to be washed.

Things began quickly, but these two were each holding a grudge. One against the other, and one against the world. A bargain is struck and they drive off where James needs Mike to be his pretend boyfriend to impress his colleagues.
There's hot sexy action,

where Mike gets his first times with a man. Wow !

Their emotions kick in and each guy is getting closer.
Lots of tension to start off, but romance wins in the end.
ENJOY !

I was a little hesitant at first, because
a) the reviews were rather mixed and
b) if a book is for free, expectations are usually quite low.
But then I gave it a try anyway and what a pleasant surprise.
This book absolutely worked for me.
I loved the blurb from the beginning and even if it was like a fairytale, just too good to be true, I enjoyed it a lot.
Mike was the high-school quarterback, popular and good-looking, while James was a nerd and even bullied by Mike at the time.
Now James returned, having made a lot of money, while Mike works at the local gas station with no money, no future, living a dull life.
Seems like time for revenge, but when James offers a lot of money to Mike to accompany him to a convention, he soon gets more than he bargained for.
Could Mike really Fall for him, or is he just trying to get some cash....
I loved both men with their insecurities and their hopes and even if not everything made complete sense, it was a fun read that I would definitely recommend.
4 stars for me!
