Fraternizing Omegas #1

Patiently Yours

Rate this book
People say I live with my head in the clouds.

I don’t pay attention, I have zero emotional awareness, and apparently all I know how to do is avoid. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Now a sophomore at Bensen University, everything feels like it’s falling apart. Every moment feels heavy, like I’m floating through a fog. Every deprecating word that’s ever been uttered toward me plays on repeat in my head. The only time I feel any kind of relief is when I’m self-medicating.

But then I meet them. My scent matches… who also happen to be my ex-boyfriend’s teammates.

Atlas, the prime alpha who’s captain of the hockey team.
Kendall, the golden retriever with a cheeky smile.
Uriah, the misunderstood grump.
And Ciro, the beautiful beta that started it all.

The fates are cruel for pairing me up with a pack as perfect as them. They’re well-rounded, emotionally intelligent, and somehow seem to know exactly what my Omega wants at all times. I thought it would be hard to let them in, but it’s proven even harder to push them away.

But no matter how good things get, there’s always someone waiting to push me off my pedestal… and I’m not sure if my new pack can catch me.

FRATERNIZING OMEGAS is an interconnected standalone series of sweet Why Choose Omegaverse romances that include Frat Boy MMCs and Wallflower FMCs. No OW drama, no third act break-ups, and no bullying between love interests. There are sensitive topics discussed, so please check TWs before reading.

Okay but this was AMAZING. I cried, I giggled and kicked my freaking feet, I had ALL the emotions. I didn't want to put it down and when I wasn't reading it I was thinking about reading it.

The characters were 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻. The guys were all so obsessed and devoted to their omega and they just wanted to love her and she just needed to freaking let them 😭. She was perfection though. She had so much trauma and I loved getting to see her open up and let them in it was freaking beautiful.

The plot was freaking on point. I was so invested literally at all times. Oh and uh the spice? SPICING.

thank you to the author for the gifted arc

I was craving a palette cleanser omegaverse when I stumbled upon this one on Amazon. I'd never heard or seen this one before, but the blurb sounded cute. I was expecting a cute, fluffy read, boy was I wrong?!

The trauma and pain in this book were so well done that it brought tears to my eyes at times. I laughed throughout this book as well, and I couldn't put it down. I flew through this in less than 24 hours, and it was so much fun.

I loved the characters and also fell in love with the side characters too. I loved the little crumbs we were fed hinting to the next books!

I did feel one of the storylines was overdone, so that's the reason why I rated in 4 stars. Even in the last chapter or so, that storyline was still there, and it bugged me after a while.

I loved the writing style and I can't wait to read more from Layney in the future.

4.5 ⭐️ (rounded up purely because i’m so excited for the rest of the series & the packs i am suspecting 🙂‍↕️)

Thank you Layney Jones for the ARC copy!

This book was SO GOOD!! It was very emotional and handled some really sensitive topics quite well (in my opinion, but please check out TWs before reading!)

A kinda unique take on omegaverse dynamics with scents and scent matches. This has betas being “scentless” to everyone except family or scents matches. This was one of the tells for FMC and Pack.

FMC, Stacia, had a lot of mental health struggles displayed in this book that seemed to stem from past relationship & familial abuses. Watching her growth, her struggles, and even her regressions was almost empowering in a way. It was so well written that I hope anyone reading this in Stacia’s position can find the strength she found in herself and in her support system.

The MMCs were all unique in their own ways, although I do wish we got more of smaller things (Kendalls baking specifically, give me a cooking date Layney I beg). I also wanted a *bit* more hockey but I loved the game we got to watch hehe 🤭

The side characters were SO FUN and lovable that every time they were on the page they were easily my favorite parts. I am extremely excited for the setup for potential future packs. This will definitely be a series I insta read when they come out!

First of all, thank you to Layney for sending me an ARC of this book. I'm honored to be a part of your book release!

I'll just jump right into my thoughts...

The Good:

1) Excellent handling of sensitive subject matter. This book does NOT shy away from heavy topics, but the author handles the subjects with grace and respect without vilifying people unnecessarily. By giving the FMC as much depth as she has, she becomes someone that, as a reader, I can sympathize with, even if I don't have the same lived experiences.

2) The OV in the world is unique! Because OV books are one of my most read genres, it sometimes feels hard for me to be surprised or find an actual new story to tell. Because of how this book was flavored, we were able to dodge the expected tropes and manufactured tension cookie-cutter OV books can have. I personally loved that I didn't have to deal with more designation hiding, politically fueled segregation, or the darker trafficking I've come to expect from a lot of OV books.

Some Areas for Improvement:

1) While the FMC was a fully-flushed out character, with back story, explained trauma, and developed external relationships, the guys in the story, in comparison come across as a bit one-dimensional. I feel like I finished knowing nothing of substance about them. Sure we know how they became friends and maybe token interest or fact about them; I'm afraid that Ciro and Kendall were given personality traits instead of backstories. When they meet Stacia, she becomes their personalities and I wish we'd seen more character development before the meeting.

2) The author really covered a whole lot of topics and microtropes in this book; we've got abusive parents, an abusive ex, stalking, blackmail, addiction, overdose, therapy, designation insecurity, on top of hockey, an alpha in a band, and why-choose OV. The downside to wanting to fit in all our favorites or all the topics we think are REALLY important, things tend to feel a rushed, disjointed, or like there were too many threads to tie up by the end of the story.

(This is not actually a critique as much as an observation: there's one continuity hiccup in the first spicy scene where the FMC is wearing buttoned shorts in one chapter and a dress in the next)

A personal note: It took me a minute to really get into the story because it's written in first person present tense, and 90% of the books I read at first person past tense, to my brain had to relearn how to read this style lol

All in all, despite the heaviness of some of the themes, this is an incredibly easy book to read, with me easily clocking 100 pages a day on the weekends. It's packed with spice, it's packed with giggles, it's packed with feels. The story is fast-paced, the FMC is interesting, and the lack of back-and-forth/no third act break-up is enough to make me shout out this book.

4.5 ⭐️

This book left a strong impression. It’s quiet and introspective, filled with quiet moments that gradually build impact and hit you in the chest. What stood out most was how thoughtfully and gently Stacia’s experience is handled — not just through the way the pack supports her, but in how the story gives her the time and space to grow on her own terms. This isn’t a story about a broken girl being saved. It’s about learning to let go of the need to carry everything alone, to accept care, and to move through healing in a way that feels real and unforced. That she can be struggling and still worthy of love. It’s a great pick for readers who appreciate character-driven journeys, especially those centered on self-acceptance.

Writing/Plot: The writing is straightforward, raw, and immersive. It captures the haze of emotional disconnection in a way that feels authentic without becoming heavy-handed. The pacing is gentle and entirely character-driven, perfectly matching the story’s emotional depth. Rather than relying on big twists, the plot focuses on self-discovery intimate moments, and healing.
Characters: Stacia is the kind of character who doesn’t always have the words for what she’s feeling, and her internal battles are painfully honest. As for the pack, each member is distinct and gentle. Atlas is protective and grounded, Kendall brings light and warmth, Uriah is guarded but loyal, and Ciro, is the steady thread that holds them all together.
Relationships: It’s not just about scent matches — it’s about emotional safety, slow trust, and learning how to be loved without conditions. The guys don’t rush her or try to “fix” her. They show up, consistently and quietly, until she starts to believe maybe she’s worthy of care. The intimacy isn’t just physical — it’s emotional, with moments of vulnerability that hit harder than any heat scene ever could. (Though the scene was definitely good and spicy.)
Worldbuilding: The Omegaverse dynamics are present and thoughtfully used to explore emotional depth. The college, frat house, and hockey setting add a grounded, real-world texture that makes the story feel more immediate, relatable, and believable throughout.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The FMC, Stacia, is a well-crafted character whose journey through trauma and healing is both heartfelt and empowering. The pack dynamic adds a flare to the story, with each member bringing their own unique qualities to the table. The world-building is immersive, and the exploration of sensitive topics is handled with care and respect. The author’s handling of sensitive topics like trauma, addiction, and healing provided a depth to the FMC making her a character I could truly root for.
There were a few areas that could use some refinement. The male leads felt a little underdeveloped in comparison to Stacia. While their support for her was evident, I didn't get a strong sense of their individual personalities or backstories. Additionally, the writing was a big choppy in parts bring me out of the story to have to reread again. Furthermore, the attempted to bring in a multitude of themes—abusive relationships, addiction, therapy, and more—which, while ambitious, occasionally made the pacing feel uneven and the plot a bit disjointed. Focusing on only a few of these and flushing them out would have given a better flow to the story.

Despite these minor drawbacks, the book was sooo addicting to read! The characters are so loveable and created such a loving dynamic. I would love to continue reading the authors work in the future!

10/10 would read again
If I could describe this book in one word it would be Relatable. It was written in a way that made you really feel what was going on. I love books written like that.

I think there’s a point in every persons life that you might want to escape from. In that sense this book is very relatable. We watch our FMC struggle with some heavy stuff and ends up using escapism as a (unhealthy) coping mechanism. Being able to see her go from having practically no support to having a pack full of men care about her was magical.

It was a little hard to watch her struggle with the concept of being told something so much you start to believe it must be true. Finding out how deep that goes for Stacia really struck a cord.

I loved how different each of our MMCs were. We get to see how each one of them is a match for different sides to Stacia. As a bookworm, it was nice to see the Prime described as a book lovers paradise. Ciro you adorable beta you 🥰 he’s probably my favorite of the pack

Stacia is starring in a commercial for DARE. She enjoys microdosing psychedelics and smoking pot in her bedroom, and before you know it, she’s OD’ing in Central Park after a hard conversation with her parents.

I didn’t really care for the depiction of Stacia’s drug use. It had a “pot is a gateway drug” kind of feel to it.

Stacia is a fleshed out character, but her mates are just generic nice guys. There’s not a personality between them. The villains are one dimensional. The dialogue with her evil parents is unnatural and stilted.

Her parents are glad to hear she broke up with Derek because it means they can force bond her to some randos, even though they hate alphas and packs. Also, why did they respect her relationship with Derek, but not with her scent matches?

They cut her off, so Stacia has to drop out of college. Her nice guy mates can’t help her out with that, because they have no backgrounds or parents. It’s probably good though, because Stacia’s creative writing degree consists of her taking a lot of random Science classes as electives like Astronomy and Biology, so it seems like a waste of time and money.

This isn’t your typical college hockey omegaverse — it’s deeper, darker, and more emotionally raw in the best way. Stacia, our omega FMC, is clawing her way back to herself. Her path to healing includes psychedelics, some rough moments, and a chance encounter with a punk rock looking beta who (plot twist!) is part of a hockey playing alpha pack she’s scent matched with. Cue the slow build of trust, tenderness, and one seriously devoted pack.

I loved the dynamic between the pack members themselves just as much as their growing connection with Stacia. There’s a genuine found family vibe here that adds so much emotional richness. And Stacia’s best friend is ride or die material. Her support felt like a warm blanket in the middle of some very heavy storms (I am🤞🏼 that she is the next book).

That said, this book doesn’t shy away from weighty themes and while many of these were handled with sensitivity, at times the pacing faltered. Multiple subplots made things feel a little disjointed, and I occasionally found myself pulled out of the story trying to figure out where it was going. A little more narrative tightening and character clarity would’ve elevated this from good to phenomenal.

Still, it’s a powerful debut packed with spice, healing, and hope. If you’re into emotionally complex omegaverse with real-world stakes and characters worth rooting for, give this one a shot — just check the content warnings first.

Ahh, a sweet omegaverse with just enough angst to keep things interesting! Stacia gets an award for worst parents of the year and another for poor choice in men. Her self-confidence and self-worth are so tragically low that she finds herself in predicaments where she turns herself off just to survive. Enter her scent-matched pack and things begin an upward trajectory, though still riddled with those pesky lows. Amidst all the enemies-to-lovers out there, I can’t get enough of fated mates, and Patiently Yours did not disappoint! The much-anticipated meeting of the scent matches was everything I wanted. I loved that Stacia and her pack fought their battles and issues together and it was refreshing to not have to suffer a third act breakup. I really enjoyed the ending and especially the little tidbits that give hints at the next book!

As always, no spoilers.

Can I just say this book was absolutely fucking adorable. Loved every single moment. The FMC was cute and relatable. The MMCs were every kind you could want. Love me a good why choose with the perfect men.

The mental health representation was spot on, and made it very relatable. I approve of this because I think the more we see it and read about it, the less stigma will be around it.

Bravo ma’am. Loved the book. Loved the characters. Loved the story and the way it sets us up possibly for another one 😏😉 (WE BETTER BECAUSE I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE OTHER PACKS). I giggled, I cried, it was perfect. Thank you for trusting me with your baby and letting me ARC read for you. 😭🥰

Layney Jones's debut novel is a good read. The sweet, all-in nature of MMCs immediately draws you in, providing the perfect juxtaposition to the antagonism that FMC, Stacia, is experiencing in her life.

This has the spice, plot, and mental health representation that Layney promotes. I think Layney has a solid foundation for her books going forward, and I can't wait to see how she evolves as a writer from here.

-- Quick Facts --
* Omegaverse, Contemporary
* 19/20 to 21-year-old MCs
* MFMMM (No MM)
* Review triggers. They are handled with care, yet I would encourage you to review them to make sure you are okay.

I was gifted an advanced copy by the author for an honest review.

I absolutely ate this book up. The accurate mental health representation, the portrayal of coping mechanisms, the journey to healing, amazing. The spice is nicely done, without taking away from the plot. This book showcases a lot of tropes that, frankly, are frequently done poorly. I love her best friend, she was supportive without being overbearing.

Sometimes I forgot it was an omegaverse book, but not really in a bad way. The OV aspects just enhanced what is a great romance and journey to healing.

First, if you don't like/can't handle drug use in books then this will not work for you. Stacia, the Omega, uses drugs as a coping mechanism. Sometimes is it more out of control than others, and her issues do eventually get addressed and dealt with in a healthier way. While there is drug use, that's not the focus of the book. The crux of the story is learning to love yourself, accept the love you deserve, and to move forward from trauma and toxicity. Stacia's Pack helps her so much with this. They accept her, are her strength when she's low, and always do their best to show her their love. The MMCs were multidimensional and their pack felt cohesive. These characters are 20/21 and act as maturely and smartly as they can for their age. This felt like a realistic portrayal of college. The hockey stuff and school stuff are more in the background and that was fine by me. I don't need to know the minutia of a character's class schedule and homework. There was enough on-page sex that fit with their experience level. I really liked the couple of features unique to this OV - mainly that omegas only get heats after they bond. This is a very strong omegaverse debut and I look forward to more books from this author in the future.

Pack Pearson
Stacia - Omega - vanilla and lavender
Atlas - Prime Alpha - books and chamomile tea
Kendall - Alpha - coconut
Uriah - Alpha - palo santo
Ciro - Beta - rum and oranges

✨ Review: Patiently Yours by Laney Jones ✨
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (3.75 stars)

Patiently Yours is a sweet and emotional debut that shines brightest in its tender moments and lovable characters. Laney Jones offers readers a story full of heart, healing, and the kind of swoony book boyfriends that make you wish you could step right into the page.

From the moment the main characters meet, the guys are head over heels. It’s honestly so adorable. Ciro, in particular, had me melting with how protective he was, even before he fully knew her. I also loved the supportive bestie/roommate energy.. Rory is exactly the kind of friend everyone deserves.

While the MMCs were absolutely adorable and easy to love, they did feel a little underdeveloped compared to the FMC. I would’ve loved to see a bit more depth or internal conflict from them, especially given how central they were to her emotional journey.

And okay, we need to talk about the spice… The scenes were steamy without being over the top, and who doesn’t love a man (or men) that will talk you through it?! 🔥

As someone who lives with anxiety, I appreciated the raw portrayal of those spiraling, irrational what-if thoughts that sneak up on you when you’re not thinking clearly. It made the FMC feel so real and relatable.

Also, I will always be a sucker for:
🧩 Family game nights (even if I personally hate charades 😂)
📚 A man reading romance just because it’s her thing (looking at you, Atlas)
💖 A whole group of MMCs who fall fast and fall hard

That said, there were a few things that pulled me out of the story a bit… inconsistent outfit descriptions and some real-world references (like Wattpad mentions) that felt a bit jarring.

And while I understand it was part of the plot, the inclusion of drug use wasn’t really for me and impacted my overall enjoyment a bit. I think it’s something that won’t bother every reader, but it’s worth noting for those who might be sensitive to it.

Still, this was a solid and heartfelt debut! With its cozy vibes, sweet characters, and tender moments, Patiently Yours has so much potential—and I’m excited to see where Laney Jones goes from here. 💕✨

📚 Thank you to the author for the ARC!

Find me everywhere at what.in.the.hea

An emotionally heavy story with so much love it was well worth the heartache.

Trigger warning:
Using drugs as a coping mechanism

This takes a big role in the story. As someone who struggled with addiction it was hard to read at times. I took breaks. A skimmed a paragraph or two to get past it quicker. I had to choose my mental heath over reading every word.

That being said. It was beautifully written and I felt very seen.

A must read.

ARC Review 🪻

This is an absolutely beautiful story full of healing and self-acceptance. With a range of sensitive subjects and realistic mental health issues covered, the author has written a book that brings all the feels.

Our FMC, Stacia, is a complex character with an array of struggles that are weighing her down. I really enjoyed her story as it was relevant to today’s world and highlighted the major issues that young adults face. Her journey into drug abuse was heartbreaking but written with the perfect amount of sensitivity. Her character has to be one of my favourite types; she’s quirky and slightly hippie, has a cracking sense of humour and bouts of stunning confidence. She was absolutely the perfect character for this type of story. The MMC’s were also fantastic. They were the perfect balance to Stacia’s chaotic life and brought so much light and acceptance to the narrative. Atlas, Kendall, Uriah and Ciro have to be the most self-aware, confident, and secure men I’ve ever read. Their behaviour towards women in general was wonderful and gentle and kind, but with Stacia it was multiplied 10x. They were here safe space, her home and inevitably her soul mates. I have adored reading their story!

The plot, although branching off into separate sub-plots, was incredibly gripping and interesting. Dickwad has to be the vilest excuse for a man I’ve ever read, I only wish that 4/4 got a punch in ;) The drug abuse story was intense and saddening but knowing that Stacia had the strength to seek help was beautiful. And the scent matches/pack plot was my favourite. The adjustment periods, the traditional courting ughhh it was amazing!

Spice: 10/10, would absolutely recommend finding yourself a group of guys with various kinks to help you reach that peak you’ve been looking for 😛😩

Thank you for the ARC!!!

Like so many why-choose authors, this author chose to have very dumb nicknames for the FMC. I've started to realize that the less mature authors use nicknames as crutches and this book further solidifies that point.

Four mates gave the following nicknames to ONE FMC:
doe, sweetheart, omega, baby, my beautiful doe, naughty omega, beautiful omega, pretty girl, beautiful, my love, angel, my beautiful omega, and my beautiful mate.

The book was very formulaic; the ending with the ex was rushed and the situation with the parents didn't feel resolved at all.

Despite there being some sensitive topics, I still think this was an overall sweet read.
It was filled with all the feels, laugh out loud moments, a little drama, and spicy goodness.
Stacia was a great FMC.
I was so proud of her growth and healing throughout.
Atlas, Uriah, Kendall, and Ciro.
Her alphas and beta were the best. The way they supported and cared for her was everything.
I enjoyed the banter, steam, family, and love.
I'm so glad Stacia got her happy ending!

I'm newer to the Omegaverse world so I really appreciate that the author had a pretty detailed run down of how things work at the beginning of the book.

That being said I really enjoyed this book. I read a lot of darker stuff so this was a refreshing change of pace. While there were some dark scenes for the most part it was light and fluffy and had me giggling and kicking my feet one minute and blushing and fanning myself the next. Usually when I'm reading a why choose/RH I have a favorite or two out of the group but honestly I couldn't choose a favorite if you paid me. All four of those boys were perfection.

Oh and I'd give anything if I could also do some reconstruction on Derek's nose....and also her parents...

Well.. Layney, I think you really knocked your debut novel out the park. You captured real, rolling issues and didn’t immediately sweep them under the rug. I loved the fact that Stacia had an amazing support system when it came to her substance abuse. They helped her every step of the way and didn’t treat her any differently. Stacia was such an amazing FMC, her kindness shows no bounds. I love the alphas Atlas, Uri and Kendall. But I have to say my fave was Uri, such a sweetheart 🥹 I loved our beta Cairo, he was such a big ball of energy and sass, and found himself able to be vulnerable with his omega. Laney, this was an excellent read, and I can’t wait to read Opal & Rory’s stories.

i will eat up an omegaverse everytime & this one hit everything that i loveeee!
the FMC Stacia just had my heart from the jump, the way everyone who to love her just did the complete opposite besides Rory
i was so happy when she met Ciro, Uriah, Atlas & Kendall.
from the beginning they made sure she never went a day without knowing she was cared for & they always tried to make sure that Derek’s nasty comments didn’t get to Stacia
i love that they did not hesitate to help her & they made sure that she could tell them anything & they would never judge or berate her for it

thank you to the author for the ARC!

Absolutely fantastic! I loved the relationship with the pack, the drama of the ex, the friendship with the bestie (I hope we get her story next!), and the overall story. I read a LOT of OV and have done so for about 6 years now so when I say this book is a great OV trust me. It has the sweetness for those who like the comfy OV reads but enough emotional depth for those who are looking for a deeper, angsty connection. I loved how the whole story came together and I can’t wait to see what this author does next!

What an emotional roller coaster this was for Stacia. Finding her scent-matched pack despite her jerk of an ex-boyfriend and her horrible parents! It was so sweet the way her guys were so loving and protective and patient for her. There was definitely spice, but there was some angst, as well. I loved how her confidence grew, and she was able to stand up for herself at the end. Lots of possible triggers, so be sure to check the warnings. Loved it, and I can’t wait for more stories in this world.

I am a sucker for omegaverse and I found another great one!!! First off I loved all our MCs. There more depth to our characters and I love it

There’s a lot of realistic topics such as drug use, parents being controlling, abuse(physical and mental)

I highly recommend reading this book I believe hat our FMC received the gifts she deserved. She got the love she should have gotten from the beginning but her alphas made up for all the lost time💜

i loved reading this so much. i loved the plot & the pacing of the story was so good. it has some darker themes to it but nothing crazy.

i was absolutely feral for these men & im obsessed with them all! the spice is delicious & is well balanced throughout the story.

i recieved an arc in exchange for an honest review. i was also a beta reader. thank you layne! 🫶🏻

I have been waiting for this book for months! I was so excited to be selected for an ARC. it was such a good book! I really enjoyed reading about healthy communication and understanding. The pack never judged and only showed concern and helped her figure out what she needed in those situations. i really enjoyed it and i hope that rory and opal get books too!!
