I recently finished reading Yesterday Night I Killed My Husband by Darshan Desale, and I have to say it completely blew me away.

My Experience with the Premise
Right from the start, I was hooked by the book’s shocking opening. The idea that Monika would confess to killing her husband, only for him to be found alive when Inspector Dhariwal arrives, instantly grabbed my attention. I found myself questioning everything—was Monika delusional, lying, or was there something even more sinister lurking beneath the surface?

Themes that Resonated with Me
Deception and Duality
I was fascinated by the theme of deception woven throughout the narrative. Monika’s confession and the subsequent mystery surrounding her true intentions made me constantly wonder if I was being misled. This exploration of duality—between what is said and what is real—challenged me to think about the nature of truth and how easily it can be manipulated.

Psychological Trauma and the Human Psyche
The book delves deep into the characters’ minds, and I found the portrayal of psychological trauma particularly gripping. I could sense the inner conflicts and vulnerabilities of the characters, which made them feel incredibly real. Their backstories, revealed gradually through flashbacks and introspective moments, added a rich, emotional layer to the story that I truly appreciated.

Mystery and Suspense
Every chapter kept me on the edge of my seat. The murder confession, the serial killer subplot, and the twists that followed kept my mind racing. I was constantly guessing about the true nature of the characters and the reality behind the bizarre events. This relentless suspense was one of the most thrilling aspects of my reading experience.

Characters that Left an Impression
Monika
I found Monika to be an incredibly complex and enigmatic character. Her bold confession, combined with the mysterious circumstances that surround her, made me empathize with her even as I questioned her motives. I was left wondering whether she was a victim of her own circumstances or a cunning manipulator hiding a darker truth.

Inspector Dhariwal
For me, Inspector Dhariwal served as a grounding force in the midst of the chaos. His investigative approach—marked by both dedication and skepticism—mirrored my own need to seek out the truth. His interactions with Monika and the unfolding mystery kept me engaged and eager to understand his perspective on the events.

The Antagonist and Supporting Characters
The inclusion of a shadowy serial killer and other intriguing supporting characters added extra layers to the narrative. I felt that each character brought their own secrets and complexities to the story, enriching the overall mystery and contributing to an atmosphere of suspense and uncertainty.

Style, Pacing, and Atmosphere
I was thoroughly impressed by Darshan Desale’s writing style. The brisk pacing ensured that there was never a dull moment, yet the detailed character development and atmospheric descriptions allowed me to fully immerse myself in the eerie world of the novel. The stormy night setting and the remote village backdrop not only enhanced the suspense but also mirrored the internal turmoil of the characters, making the entire experience even more captivating.

What I Took Away from the Book
Yesterday Night I Killed My Husband is more than a mere murder mystery—it’s a deep exploration of human psychology, deception, and the fragility of truth. Although some parts of the book, especially the more graphic scenes, were intense and not for the faint of heart, I found that these elements only added to the overall impact of the story. The unexpected twists and the layered narrative left me thinking long after I turned the last page.

In conclusion, this novel offered me a thrilling and thought-provoking journey into the darkest corners of the human psyche. If you, like me, appreciate psychological thrillers that challenge your perceptions and keep you guessing, I would highly recommend giving this book a read.

'Yesterday Night I Killed My Husband' by Darshan Desale is a taut, psychological thriller that thrives on suspense, misdirection, and dark emotional undercurrents. From the very first page, the novel grips the reader with an unforgettable premise: a woman calmly confesses to murder—yet the man she claims to have killed is standing beside her, very much alive. What follows is a deeply unsettling and cleverly layered mystery that challenges our assumptions about guilt, truth, and the fragile line between sanity and deception.

Set against the eerie backdrop of a remote village during a stormy night—a classic but effective setup for isolation and tension—the novel introduces Monika, who stuns the local inspector with her quiet confession: she has murdered her husband. The twist? Her husband is present, breathing, and seemingly unharmed. This contradiction kicks off a spiral of events that pulls the inspector into a much darker and more twisted case than he ever anticipated. The story is structured around sharp revelations and unpredictable turns, which keep readers guessing through each chapter.

Desale masterfully plays with perspective and psychological ambiguity. Is Monika unwell? Is someone gaslighting her? Is the truth buried beneath a web of lies, or is it even more sinister than we can imagine? As the inspector delves deeper, the layers begin to peel away, revealing not just one mystery, but a tangle of them—linked by trauma, manipulation, and buried secrets.

Monika is a compelling, complex character whose motivations are shrouded in ambiguity for most of the book. Her emotional fragility and defiance make her unpredictable, while the inspector serves as the reader’s stand-in—methodical, skeptical, yet increasingly unsettled. The secondary characters—villagers, family members, potential suspects—are sketched with just enough detail to add layers of suspicion, enhancing the sense of paranoia.

The pacing is brisk, but not rushed, allowing Desale to slowly increase the tension while keeping the readers off-balance. The writing style is clean and direct, following clarity over flourish, which works well for the genre. He makes efficient use of setting, particularly the oppressive atmosphere of the isolated village and the relentless rain, to build dread.

"Yesterday Night, I killed My Husband" stands out in the Indian thriller genre for it's bold narrative premise and psychological depth. It's a chilling, thought-provoking read that doesn't rely solely on shock value; instead, it layered storytelling and moral ambiguity.

Must read♥️♥️

This thriller novel will drag you into its world and play with your mind until the end💥

🗡INSIGHT: A woman named Monika, living in a remote village, calls up the police station one night to report a murder. The murderer? Herself. She admits to the Inspector that she killed her husband the previous night. However, when Inspector Dhariwal arrives on the scene, he finds Monika's husband alive and well. Monika says that the man is not her husband, because her real husband is dead, killed by her. Inspector Dhariwal is thus taken on a whirlwind investigation to uncover the truth, which might be darker than he could ever imagine.

🗡REVIEW: The premise hooks the reader in from the start — a woman has killed her husband & confesses to her crime, yet her husband is alive — it grabs your attention immediately, a huge plus point. And the entire book too, is a page-turner that will keep you engrossed till the end. The writing style was quite polished, & the twists & turns keep you guessing & second-guessing till the final reveal. Unlike most murder mysteries, this one is rich in character development, actually taking the time to explore each of the characters & the different facets of their lives. That being said, people looking for a fast-paced thriller could feel distracted by the subplots, and the big reveal at the end felt a bit rushed as well as slightly sloppy in execution.

🗡STRENGTH: 1. Premise is extremely intriguing, & the author manages to keep the reader engrossed & guessing about the killer.
2. In-depth characterization that makes it stand out from other murder mysteries.
3. Ample twists & turns
4. Writing style was polished.

🗡WEAKNESS: 1. Quite a few typographical & grammatical errors
2. For readers wanting fast-paced psychological thrillers, the subplots may take away some of the charm.
3. Execution of the final reveal at the end was okay; could have been done better. I would have loved to be able to connect all the dots.

🗡TARGET READERS : Ages 18+, for some scenes of graphic violence

🗡GENRE: Psychological Thriller

🗡RATING: 3.7/5

Note : So proud that Indian Authors are setting up a bar at different level 🥰

This book is easily one of the most intense, cold-blooded, and spine-chilling psychological, thrillers I have ever read.
At the start of the book, that one line where someone was writing a letter with his own blood made me believe that this story is not going to be like any other book I have read till now. This story is about women name "Monika" doing confession that she killed her husband but he is alive standing beside her made your jaw dropped on the floor. There is a thin layer between hallucinations, confusion & reality... You will not even realise you are standing on which side of the story.
Honestly, I tried to guess the twists & killers , but with every chapter and the way the story travelled across centuries.....I realized that I have failed miserably. I just can't imagine someone could write a book like this - The level of research, knowledge, and effort behind it is beyond comprehension.
Boooom…the plot twists left me absolutely stunned.🫨😵 I literally closed this book so many times just to take that deep breath before going on the next chapter - it was totally unbelievable..
And that ending… Omggggg! It completely shook me. I genuinely felt like someone was standing around me, whispering in my head & I can feel their presence🥺🥺😭
Hats off to the author for creating something that you might one day forget as a story, but your soul will never forget the feeling it leaves behind.
If you are someone who is in a dark psychological suspense thriller type of book you should definitelyyyy read this book.😶‍🌫️🫣
Content ⚠️: It can be disturbing for some readers because the descriptions of blood and murder are vivid & written in detail.

Okay, so "Yesterday Night I Killed My Husband" by Darshan Desale? Dude, this book is straight up bonkers.
Imagine someone confessing to murder, but the "victim" chilling right next to them, alive and kicking. Yeah, that's where this story starts, and it just gets weirder from there. It's a total mind-trip into the darkest corners of the human brain.
First things first, this ain't for the faint of heart. We're talking gore, violence, child abuse, and a whole lot of messed-up stuff. If you're into true crime and serial killer documentaries, you might dig it. But if you're easily freaked out, maybe grab a different book.
Monika confesses to killing her husband, who's totally fine. Then it's a wild ride trying to figure out if she's crazy, lying, or if something way darker is going on. Plus, there's a serial killer lurking around, just to keep things interesting. It's like a puzzle you can't quite solve, and the lines between reality and illusion get super blurry.
The pacing is insane. You're constantly guessing, and there's never a dull moment. Monika is a super interesting character - is she a liar? A victim? Something else entirely? The supporting characters, especially the detective and the creepy bad guy, add a lot to the story. The atmosphere is super creepy. It's got this eerie vibe that keeps you hooked, and the tension just keeps building. And the ending? Totally unexpected. Just when you think you've figured it out, the book throws a curveball that leaves you speechless.
This one is a psychological thriller that mess with your head, you'll probably love this. It's dark, twisted, and totally unpredictable.

TRIGGER WARNING: IF YOU LOVE ANIMALS, ESPECIALLY DOGS (LIKE ME), YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO READ 2 SCENES IN THIS BOOK. I SKIPPED IT. I SKIPPED THOSE SCENES TO NOT MISS THE CLIMAX OF THIS BOOK.

Yesterday Night, I Killed My Husband is a gripping psychological thriller that plays mind games with the reader from start to finish, the kind of thriller that grabs you from the first page and refuses to let go. It starts with a shocking confession—Monika claims she murdered her husband last night. But when Inspector Dhariwal arrives, her husband is standing right there, very much alive. So, what’s the truth? Is Monika lying, delusional, or is there something even more sinister at play?

Inspector Dhariwal is thrust into a case unlike any he’s faced before, one that pulls him deep into a world of secrets, deception, and a terrifying hunt for a killer. The book delivers a masterful blend of psychological tension and mystery, making you suspect every character while keeping the suspense razor-sharp. The novel hooks you instantly with its eerie premise, and the suspense never lets up. Unlike many fast-paced thrillers, this book takes time to develop its characters, adding depth to the psychological aspect of the mystery. Until the end, you will keep on guessing who is the killer, who is 'THE KAALNEMI.'

What sets this novel apart is its layered storytelling. It’s not just about the crime—it’s about the people, their hidden pasts, and how far one can go to conceal the truth. The pacing is gripping, though some might find the subplots slowing things down. While the final twist is shocking, the execution could have been a little smoother.

Yesterday Night I Killed My Husband is a gripping psychological thriller that stands out for several reasons: it starts with a jaw-dropping confession from Monika, who admits to killing her husband, only for him to later be found alive, blurring the line between truth and illusion; it is set against a moody, stormy backdrop in a remote village, enhancing the eerie and intense atmosphere; the story unfolds like a psychological maze, constantly shifting reality and making readers question what’s real; Monika emerges as a fascinating, complex character—both vulnerable and chilling—leaving readers guessing whether she’s a victim, mastermind, delusional, or something far more sinister; Inspector Dhariwal provides a calm, methodical counterpoint to the chaos, grounding the investigation amidst the psychological storm; the book deeply explores not just the whodunit aspect, but also the why behind the crime, peeling back layers of trauma, guilt, manipulation, and survival instincts; the narrative is slow-burning and twist-heavy, challenging the reader’s perceptions and forcing them to question every character’s motive; and finally, just when you think you’ve pieced it all together, the story delivers a hard-hitting final twist. Overall, it’s a must-read for fans of dark psychological thrillers who enjoy stories that are emotionally intense, intellectually stimulating, and genuinely unpredictable.

Now for the review part..
I loved this book ofc..
I gulped this thriller in 2 days ..and night I finished this and slept ..I had dreams and ofc not very innocent dreams..
So when I say I had a nightmare now you have to Get yourself a copy..
From the start this had a gripping power to make you hooked ...
And till the 3rd last chapter I was still finding what actually is the plot..!! Does this make this a bad story ..?? NOPE NOT AT ALL!!.
This book has a story that unfoldes new suspense with each chapter...
And I have seen many reviews before starting the book but after I finished this ..I realised that no one ever told about one thing no mention about one thing that needs to be highlighted..
Every chapter from the start has different scenarios so don't get confused..I got too
So eventually they start making sense..but you have to be patient..
Now the reason it's 3.9 start⭐
Well there is some bit of a confusion...for me I felt that off .that even after the completion something didn't align.. and it's not a cliffhanger..OH about the cliffhanger there is one at the last chapter....so don't close the book after the culprit is caught..
...
Obviously loved this book perfect for someone with an interest in murder and have an urge to solve murder cases..! 💀
And also to add if you believe in some kind of supernatural powers and their strong impact.. playing with the human mind..
Well it's for you!!

My reading behind reading this book was it's interesting premise as well. It's a psychological thriller that delivers a serial k*ll er on the lose who is cursed by an ancient entity. This mysterious entity curses anyone who comes in contact with a dagger. Spanning across eras— from the Nanda dynasty to the recent times, this curse has claimed many lives. It makes its owner blood-thirsty. This serial k*ller who goes by the name Kaalnemi terrorises Monika's village. Now, Monika knows a certain truth behind it. Only she can solve this mystery that has haunted her since her childhood.

The human psyche was very well portrayed— especially the making of the psyche of a serial k-ller. The entirety of the book promises an eerie atmosphere and will keep you hooked as to what will come next. Be prepared for the gory descriptions and the bloodlust in the book.

Even though it has an interesting premise, the execution failed. There were lose threads and the connection between the three eras made it difficult to follow the plot. I personally didn't feel connected to the story much. There were a couple of typos which could have been editing failures as well. Overall, it was a decent read and anyone who loves psychological thrillers would like it.

This is a twisted psychological thriller that will have you on a chole hold.
The books opens with someone being trapped, goes on to witness someone getting murdered and then choked with noodles soaked in his own blood, and that's my friend only the first 30 pages of the book.
Monika's confession of killing her very much alive husband is mind-boggling and throws the readers to a wild chase of unraveling the twisted dark secrets of a very very sick mind.
As someone who's defination of "fun" is watching true crime documentaries and reading papers written about serial killers, it scratches some very specific ich of mine.
And boy oh boy, was it twisted and dark enough for my taste? Hell yes.
Some underwhelming aspects would be the length of the book, which I think could have been perfect if it was about 50-75 pages less. Some graphic details of crime felt repetitive. And even though I understand that this is psychological thriller, I wanted to keep some characters in my heart but I couldn't build up any such connections.
The backstory was very predictable yet, believable. So I'm not complaining.
For the lovers of Saw(s), Final Destination(s), and true crime documentaries/podcasts, this one's for you.

Okay but WHAT DID I JUST READ?! @authordarshandesale "Yesterday Night, I Killed My Husband" is the kind of psychological thriller that crawls into your brain and refuses to leave. The story starts with Monika confessing that she killed her husband - but when the cops arrive, he's standing right beside her, alive and breathing. From that moment, my jaw was basically on the floor.

The book throws you straight into chaos - hallucinations, reality, deception, and trauma all tangled up. You keep flipping pages thinking you've figured it out... but nah. The story shifts timelines, mixes myths and murder, and by the time you reach the final twist, your soul is screaming.

It's creepy in the best way possibl, dark, emotional, and absolutely unpredictable. The writing feels cinematic, and the scenes? Vivid enough to make you double-check your surroundings before turning the page.

If you're into thrillers that make you question your own sanity, this one's a must. It's giving Gone Girl meets Indian folklore vibes! intense, brain-twisting, and unforgettable.

A Content note: Graphic blood + murder scenes, so not for the faint-hearted.

+ Final verdict: 5/5 for psychological chaos, plot twists, and making me sleep with my lights on.

⭐⭐⭐.5 stars given and we need to talk!!

So, when I say that I wasn't ready for Mauryan Empire to land in this book, I am not lying!! The way this whole history was woven around a story was so damn interesting. I love the way few bits of our past was induced into the present which impacted in the future in ways I never imagined.

There were basically multiple eras where the story line takes places, which can be confusing to few readers (including me🥲). So, one has to be very very VERY attentive when they read every single line in this book. As the story is connected through many eras, it seems difficult to get a hang of it but once you get a grip of how, where and when things are taking place there is no going back at all!!

There is a LOT OF BLOOD involved in this book!! So, this book is def not for the faint hearted. There was a lot going on in this book, but everything connects back to that cursed dagger. So much minute details were there and one has to really understand and differentiate the timelines in order to understand the book completely!!

Overall, it was a decent read. Will I read it again?? Maybe. Did I love this a lot?? Maybe not. Did I find it different from my usual thrillers?? Yes.

A wife, a victim, a serial killer & reality - wow trust me guys what an amazing novel it was. This book is a gripping psychological thriller that begins with a confession and slowly turns out to be more twisted than one can even imagine. Monika confesses Dhariwal, the inspector that she had killed her husband last night but when Dhariwal arrives, he finds her husband completely fine and alive. What was Monika's motive behind this statement ? I loved how the author has crafted every characters so well, making it interesting for the readers.

Who was the serial killer? The writing style is crisp and evocative, with a good balance of dialogue and description. The language used is rich and lucid, easy for the young readers and beginners to understand. The author’s vivid descriptions, well-drawn characters, and tight narrative pacing ensure an immersive reading experience. Throughout the story, i was curious to know what's going to happen next. YESTERDAY NIGHT I KILLED MY HUSBAND is Suspense, Thriller written by the author , this is his debut novel that contains three plots all intertwined in some twisted way.

YESTERDAY NIGHT I KILLED MY HUSBAND is a story of an Inspector named Dhariwal, who is working on a case of a serial killer, who kills in mysterious way, leaves no evidence behind and the weirdest part is that he takes pleasure in stuffing food mixed with victims blood in their mouth. In some twisted way this feels demonic, but the story gets even more complicated when a girl confesses that yesterday night she killed her husband, yet here he is right next to her alive. The Question is, How is this even possible? Is he really her husband or some duplicate? Well You gotta read the book for that.

I love how the book keeps me guessing the plot till and still I DID NOT SEE THE END COMING!!! Love the plot and the character development, the book is very well written.

I would recommend this book to all the thriller, suspense and a little horror lovers, trust me you have to read this book.

This book hooked me from the very first page. It's thrilling, and has so many deep, unexpected twists that will keep you turning the pages non-stop.

It's one of those rare stories that plays with your mind, making you question what really happened and who can be trusted. Some scenes are definitely disturbing😫, and it shows how complex people are and how dangerous emotions can sometimes be. Every chapter beautifully builds the suspense and leaves you eager to find out what happens next. However, some plot points weren't fully explained, and that left me feeling unsatisfied; I wanted to know more about them😶‍🌫️.

It's not just a thriller; it's a story that makes you think about human nature and how one moment can change everything.

If you like dark, emotional, and mind-bending thrillers, this book is for you. This is one of those books that stays with you long after you've finished reading it.

When I picked up Yesterday Night I Killed My Husband, I was thrown headfirst into chaos. The beginning made no sense—I was utterly confused, lost in a whirlwind of names, emotions, and secrets. But I kept going, and suddenly, everything began to click. Each chapter peeled back a layer, and with every turn of the page, I whispered, “What’s going to happen next?” And when it did happen, it hit like a thunderstorm—loud, dramatic, and unforgettable.

This isn’t just a thriller; it’s a haunting exploration of guilt, mental games, and buried truths. Darshan Desale doesn’t just write a mystery—he constructs a world so eerie and mystic that it creeps into your bones. And just when you think you understand it all, the ending yanks the floor out from under you. Everything falls into place… and yet, you’re left hanging. Brilliantly unsettling.

Set on multiple era, this book would be confusing at first few chapters if you are not paying attention but with easy language and short chapters you will get the grip if hold patience.

A psychological thriller where Monika admits killing her husband but when the police officer arrives the husband is well anf standing in his front. The maze of mystery, superstitions, supernatural power, abusing, physiological depth and thrill keeps the readers hook.

The twist at the end is something one would not be able to guess even when u have mastered reading murder mysteries. Author has layered the characters very smartly.

Being said that the writing is average with multiple grammar and spellings mistake which could have been easily avoided by good editing.

A goodread for thriller & mystery lovers.

Chilling. Unpredictable. Absolutely mind-bending. This book takes you deep into the psyche of a woman who calls the police, confessing to killing her husband—only for them to arrive and find him very much alive. But here’s the kicker: she swears he’s not her husband. What follows is a masterful unraveling of deception, identity, and psychological torment that grips you from page one. Every twist digs deeper into the characters' fractured minds, making you question what’s real and what’s not. If you love books that leave you breathless and unsettled, this one is a must-read.
This might not be fast faced paced but definitely worth your time!
This book had me on edge the whole time

The book begins with the lady Monika opens up ''I have killed my husband.'' but when Inspector Dhariwal arrives , to everyone's surprise her husband is very much alive. from that moment thrill and psychological intensity qualifies.

Questions like Whom did Monika kill?
Why did she kill?
Or was she in some delusion?

The story begins and its full of drama, epiphany and conflict between truth and lie. Monika 's character was differently portrayed, was she the victim or master of the plan ?

There's lot of chaos and pain and presence of emotional depth is one of them.

The role of Inspector Dhariwal is also quite interesting and tries to find the truth. We cannot deny the story is full of extra tension and extra mystery and very interesting.

Every page kept me in edge of the seat. The author framed a story where it leaves the reader to sceptic every character in the book. And the plot twist will leave you speechless.
