Pep Squad

Rate this book
Fourteen-year-old Jess Leclair is an exceptional teenager: athletically gifted and academically brilliant. Bored at her conventional Dublin school, she is thrilled to be offered a place at PEP Academy, the training ground for the top secret PEP (Planet Earth Protection) Squad. During her first term Jess quickly makes friends with her room-mate, extreme-sport loving Emily Harris, and the Sykes twins, Ben and Matt. Together they start to learn the skills they will need to become world-class spies, like lock-picking, making disguises, abseiling, foreign languages and combat training. At the end of their first-year the teenagers are promised an easy first mission. But then they find out they have to infiltrate a Bavarian castle and steal a sample of a deadly virus that could wipe out all of humanity. Faced with armed guards, a complex security system, an evil genius and a traitor in their midst the trainee spies must save the day or die trying. This is set to be the next big thing in adventure fiction for pre-teens!

A great start to a fun series. Though I'm older than the target audience, I really enjoyed the playful story that has come out of E O'hely's imagination. The PEP Squad school is one I would have wanted to attend immediately when I was a teen (and still do as an adult).

The author brilliantly rendered such experiences as skydiving, absailing and code breaking, i felt like I was back in my own experiences of that! And the main characters are strong, female and malerole models, who are unashamed of being smart, which I love.

The one thing I was a little disappointed about was how long it took the main character, Jess, to pull herself and her skills together in the climax. In saying that the author did show the character's surprise at the praise people gave her during the novel, with Jess, like many young girls, focusing on the things she couldn't do. So maybe it was a hidden message from the author about finally believing in yourself :)

In any case, highly recommend this book and the series in general.

This book was really, really good. I haven't laughed that hard from a book in ages. I really hope there is a sequel; there was some loose ends that I want to know. Again, really well done and a fantastic read.

Ok. This book NEEDS a sequel. Things are not resolved!
It was a really good book (Of course it was it was set in Ireland! :) jk. ) And I LOVED learning about the spy things and the courses and the training and everything. It just made me wish I could go to spy school- Well let's be honest I'd probably fail SPECTACULARLY!- the writing style was sooooo good! This NEEDS a sequel!

Fun spy adventureq

This is a fun teen spy adventure that would be enjoyed by all ages. The heroine was a go getter and could hold her own to both the guys and gals that were her friends and team mates. To me the only real negative is I think that this book screams for a sequel or perhaps a series of adventures from several of the characters introduced in this book.
