Where do they get their energy? Ichabod Temperance and Miss Persephone Plumtartt are in the thick of things, once again. This time, the mayhem is murder and once again, there is a nefarious plot uncovered that puts the entire planet in the crosshairs of deadly danger. The suspects are far from the usual dastardly blackhearts, and these two are determined to dig in and dig deep.
What started out as a trip to Miss Persephone’s ancestral home, seems to turn into a case for hiring bad help, as one disaster after another befalls the palatial estate and its grounds. Does no one take pride in their work anymore or is something sinister afoot? Enter a very shadowy detective who claims to be on their side, working a case while trying to help keep them safe, and we’re off!

A Study in Temperance by the charmingly Southern Ichabod Temperance whirls past like a spinning top, from start to finish. Filled with Mr. Temperance’s total recall of the events, with help from Ms. Plumtartt, we are once again whisked away through time and space to the exciting Steampunk era, where man and mechanicals live side by side. Who is this shadowy detective with the pipe? What is his real purpose? Can he be trusted? What of all of the hired help around the estate? Will these two ever get a break and a little down time? What would they do with said downtime? From quirky neighbors to summoning spirits, our dynamic duo once again comes to life with blazing action, humor and a touch of romance. Delightful light reading as well as a lesson in propriety in nineteenth century England.

I received this copy from Ichabod Temperance in exchange for my honest review.

I could not wait to read how the author had included Sherlock in his story and was really a smart choice. He has taken the classic character but managed to give him a new image and characterization.
In this steampunk set in the Victorian era take places the adventures of Ichabod and Persephone who must seek help from the most famous detective
It's the fourth book in a series of 10, can be read as a standalone, I had no particular problems but I can't wait to read the first three books.
This book is full of fun and full of humor, the plot is well woven and full of twists, difficult to guess what will happen. It 's so addictive that once started it is impossible to put it down.
I highly recommend this book!

Ichabod and Persephone return in another hair raising adventure! This time the duo have returned to Miss Plumtartt's ancestral home in England where they have many strange characters lurking about and need the help of a popular Victorian Era detective to get out of the fix they're in alive! This was another charming edition of The Adventures of Ichabod Temperance.

This is another amusing installment of the series. This time we get to return to Miss Persephone's home in England. Not only do we get to meet quite an interesting new cast of characters, but one literally famous literary detective as well.

I have to say I am impressed with how the author works in a classic character, while at the same time making the character one of his own. He also doesn't use someone else's creation to carry his story. His own characters shoulder that weight and keep the story moving, exciting and funny all at the same time. Once again we also get to see the story from more than just the main characters points of view. I, personally, really enjoy getting to see the perspective of the supporting characters. It gives a fresh and amusing view of the story, as well as the main characters themselves that otherwise one might not always see.

I love the authors sense of humor as well. Even in the darkest hours it never takes itself too seriously. It helps to keep the book light and fun. I also really enjoy the way that the author finds a way for his characters to save the day that is always amusing and unexpected. You never quite know how it's going to end. Even in this one there is a definite surprise at the end that I didn't see coming. Again, it involves how the author weaves the characters into the story, so I don't want to say more and give too much of the ending away.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the books in the series. They are all quite capable of being stand alone novels. Even so, I still think that they should be read in order. I really can't wait to see what the author has in store for Ichabod and Miss Plumtartt's next adventure. If you haven't read any of the books in the series yet, definitely go pick them up. With summer right around the corner, whether you pick up all the books out so far, or just the first few in the series, it will definitely give you something fun to read while you're relaxing on vacation. I can say that the books are addicting so if you read the first you'll want to read the rest.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Oh, my dear Mr. Temperance, what another frolicking romp you have taken me on!

This is the fourth book in the Temperance series, and it was a fun little scamper through steampunk action-adventure. Our author continues to amuse with funny little pop culture in-jokes (that you don’t need to get to like the story) and that “this isn’t really PC but it works” edge to many things. Ichabod and Persephone maintain their status as Adorable.

We also make a new friend in this one, quite the ‘great detective’ and it’s a fun addition, but I like how the name is never truly used.

My only real complaint about this one is that is seemed to employ a lot more phonetic accents–spelling out the accent instead of just saying the character had one. It was hard enough to follow in several pieces of dialog, but the exposition written in it could make it tough to follow on the over-all. Plus, a lot of names. (Though the priest was a nice touch.)

Even so, you could follow along and enjoy the story, but I personally would have liked to see a bit less of it. It did hamper my enjoyment a little and I worry I missed things, so this one gets a 4.5 this time around. But I just saw that there is already a fifth book and I’m looking forward to it!
