Even if you don't ever use any of the recipes, this series is still great for browsing the pictures and techniques plus getting ideas from the recipes (many of which are often a bit advanced for amateur cooks). Be aware that although there are 28 topic specific volumes, these have different names in the US and UK editions (Cookies v Biscuits etc.) but are otherwise identical inside. There is a hard to get 29th paperback only volume on kitchen equipment but it doesn't really match the main hardback set.
