My Thoughts - Story What a cute and sexy read…from the beginning to the end, I found myself constantly squirming in my seat with the need and want to find sexual satisfaction. To be honest though I found myself getting frustrated at Kate for letting Rob take advantage of her and putting work ahead of everything.
Re-Cap Tom is the hot, new recruit in the lab located in Germany. Kate is trying to keep her hormones under control because above all else…her job is the most important thing. While having a secret relationship with her boss, how the hell is she going to keep her attraction to Tom under wraps?
Tom doesn’t give up though and continually tries to get Kate to say “Yes”
Will they get caught? Will Rob find out? And what will Kate decide—the man or the career?

Attraction is all about CHEMISTRY!!! So when you come across a book that finally that made SCIENCE SEXY...the inner nerdy science lover in me was thrilled to read The Science of Attraction by Verity Jacobs. A sexy, witty, funny, and smart romance that takes place in a lab. Bonds are forming, chemistry is heating up, and two sexually attracted characters are thinking of each other periodically.
Kate is a scientist based in Germany working and running a research project along with two of her colleagues. Tek and Margot. When her boss, Rob hires a new member to work alongside with her, things in the lab begins to heat up literally when a hot, sexy, smart, brainy, nerdy scientist enters into the picture. In this research project, the only thing Kate wants to be inspecting is what lies underneath Tom’s lab coat. With attraction looming between them, temptation, lust, and chemistry begins to be hard to resist. Soon Tom and Kate begins a secret romantic affair. Will Kate put her research project in jeopardy when Rob finds out? What will Kate choose- her career or Tom?
If you are looking for a fun, sexy and smart book that will have you swooning for the nerdy hero then The Science of Attraction is the book for you. Mix up all those ingredients up, chemistry is formed. So if you think the Bunsen burner is the only thing heating up in a lab, prepare those e-readers as Tom and Kate explores the science of attraction.
I was sent this book after reading a snippet that I thought sounded good. As I started reading, it took me a lttle bit to get in to it. So glad I stuck with it! Most books I read start with sex and love or lust instantly. I was soo glad that though there was anitial attraction, it took time for things to really develope. You get with this, a love triangle that is so wrong, but so good! This book is worth the read! I laughed, got mad and wanted to cry while reading! The story was incredibly well writen! Everything flowed like it should. I will be getting more of Verity's books for sure! Excellent!
That's the question I need answered! Between hot nerds and hot teachers I'm starting to realize that I need to remain in fiction-land because they definitely aren't that hot in the real world dammit!!
Kate is a Biologist from London but based in Germany running a team of two scientists, Margot and Tek. Everything is going swimmingly until a new scientist shows up threatening her comfy lab space.
Tom is smart, sexy and southern. His southern charm is getting the ladies in the complex a little hot under the lab coat but Tom only wants to study one lady's private area with a microscope only problem is she's his boss.
I enjoyed this story very much. It was good to see a change of pace with the hero/heroine; as he wasn't a filthy rich billionaire alpha male who doesn't believe in love and she wan't some destitute innocent girl who needs someone to save her. Kate has her own place, a great job she loves and doesn't need anything but a good shagging, since her current shag partner is a bit on the old man side. Ewww... The chemistry between Kate and Tom is off the charts hot and highly combustible and they should know better..being scientists and all. Kate just doesn't know how to break it off with her current beau and that makes for great sexual tension and impossible to resist situations. I don't want to give too much away..just know the smut won't disappoint and neither will the story!
Who knew science was so damn sexy?! I mean to me science is the horrible drudgery that you had to snooze through in school. If my science teacher was as hot as Tom Baker, I may have passed. ;)
So we have Tom and Kate two scientists that have the hots for each other and have to deny their instincts. So yeah that lasts for like 2.5 seconds!! They have instant chemistry that made me want to drag Tom off to a corner....
Ahem! Anyway... After they finally give into their attraction to each other they start to fall into mutal affection which then turns into one ooey-gooey love affair. All rainbows and roses right? Wrong!
Enter the evil being Rob, the boss of the science institute where Kate and Tom work. Not to mention that he was the one shacking up with Kate in the beginning. *** THIS IS NOT A LOVE TRIANGLE*** Oh yes, Rob! The dastardly nasty of the book- seriously though this guy is one grade A Jerkface!! I'm so glad with how the author wrote his demise!
In the end Kate and Tom do get their rainbows and roses or more appropriately their lab and cells!
I'm looking forward to Ms. Jacobs next book featuring another nerdy lab lady.
This was a very fun and fast read. Tom and Kate were both on fire. Their relationship was very hot, intense and romantic. Both of the characters were smart in their respective professions and pretty entertaining. Thank god there was no love triangle or major drama. I would love to read a sequel if there is one :D.
Have you ever started reading a book and when you HAVE to put it down to attend to real life duties it just drives you nuts until you can get back to the chapter where you left off? Yep, that was this book. I was writing the rest of the story in my head until I could get back to reading it. Thankfully, my story was no where near as good as Ms. Jacobs. This is a fun read, an enjoyable story that is well written.
What a refreshing story plot in this book, one I have never read before. The main character, Kate Ramsey, is a scientist and works in a research lab in Bonn, Germany. Kate is a very good scientist with a growing reputation for her work and has an excellent team from all over the world working with her. She is secretly dating (if you call it that) her boss Rob, but it's more like being on call for when he needs sex. Problem is that Rob is VERY well known and his reputation can help or hurt her future. She really needs more than what Rob gives her. She deserves more. I enjoyed the science theme and discussions about the research and work the team does. It was never "over my head" or too much to understand. The research team got along well and seemed to be a type of close knit group that was fun to work with.
Enter Tom Baker. Hot, gorgeous, smart, new scientist who has been hired to join the team. Kate tries very hard to keep her composure while working with Tom. Ms. Jacobs does a wonderful job of showing how Tom effects Kate when he is around. Kate must be careful because she is secretly dating her boss who can make her break her career. But her feelings for Tom make her question her relationship with Rob. The story continues as Kate tries to make herself happy and handle the growing explosion with Rob.
Kate has Skype conversations with her sister that are fun to read. They are real conversations among sisters. Her sister helps her see things clearly and becomes her conscious. At one point, Kate goes home to London for a bit to clear her head as things get to be too much. The dialogue amongst the family is enjoyable. Meanwhile there is trouble brewing in the lab back in Germany. Tom and the team work hard to help Kate and keep everyone's job safe. But will their actions be enough when Rob starts to see what's happening?
I loved this book and if this is Verity Jacob's first one then I can't wait for the next one. Light and refreshing with hot sex scenes (very hot scenes), you can't go wrong. The sex was respectfully written and very hot indeed! I totally enjoyed this book cover to cover!

I read book 2 of this series (The Music of Temptation) before I read The Science of attraction, so I was already curious about Kate and Tom.
And I was so glad that I went back and read book one.
The Science of Attraction is one sexy, smouldering read. I am not one for the insta-love relationships. Insta-lust, yeah, we have all been there, but I loved the burn of Kate and Tom's relationship.
I gotta say, Kate's "friend with benefits" and boss Rob is a douche. I could not like a thing about him (not that I think we were supposed to!) and there was nothing redeeming about him to me!
When our lovelies do their thing - get ready for an cold shower, or even an ice bath, because things are HOT HOT HOT! They are like a pair of rabbits, always at it, here there and everywhere! But there is so much between them besides smoking hot sex. Their conversations are full of witty banter, double meanings and innuendo.
To put it plainly - I just adored them!
I have to say, I need to find one of these sexy "nerds" for myself - though I am sure they only exist in my books and in google images!
Thank you Ms Jacobs for the chance to read your book.
The sexual tension between Kate and Tom is almost tangible from the very moment they meet, which gives such a steamy buildup that had me eager for them both to finally just give in to it already! It wasn't unnecessarily long and drawn out though which was such a relief. The entire span of them fighting and ultimately giving in felt natural. There was humor and genuine humanness that made Kate so relatable to me. I loved the moments where she let her hair down and had fun with everyone because in those moments I think we got the real picture of who Kate was.
I know it's mentioned that Kate has a secret "relationship" with her boss but please let me reassure you this is not a tangled weave of a love triangle. The only thing I disliked about how Kate dealt with her relationship and her non-relationship was this: Kate is an intelligent strong character and I only wished she would have taken more initiative (and been a little more assertive) in the confrontation between her and Rob (the boss). Oh Rob... I don't want to say much about Rob because I don't like Rob. I say that with the fondest commendation for his stellar role as the book's bad guy. I did have some suspicions about him, but I'm happy to report that I was genuinely surprised by him and the story developments. And that's all I'll say about that.
I do wish we would have gotten a bit more information about Tom's family and his life before coming to Germany. I mean we get a few glimpses at Kate's hilarious sister and her supportive parents but just a tiny snapshot of Tom's family life. It is somewhat of a compliment as I think my desire to know more about him is a reflection of how much I adored him though. I mean, for serious, Tom is some serious book boyfriend material.
On one last note... At the end of reading I was very happily surprised to see a short sneak peek at the next book in the series. All throughout the story I was loving Tek and Margot... so I was pretty giddy to see Margot's name again.
The story is fun, hot, steamy, hot, witty, hot, and fun! (did I mention hot and fun?) It wasn't a heavy read and I enjoyed it on a quiet evening with a cup of tea... and a little ice water. I am giving this book a solid 4 Stars! I was very pleased I was asked to give this one a read!
Here’s a fun and sexy read that I really enjoyed and know you will too. This debut by Verity Jacobs was a treat. I’m a sucker for romance and especially when the romance takes place in the workplace. Workplace romances always deliver lots of sexy tension between the characters. The Science of Attraction has that tension, humor, science talk, and romance.
The heroine, Kate is an intelligent and well regarded scientist. I love her. Reading about a brainy scientist was a refreshing change. The “men” in her life, and yes I did say “men” are scientists too. Hmm.. there’s something sexy about a scientist, right? Well, wait until you meet Tom. This hot scientist from Texas will make you want to visit the biology lab more often. Managing a career with a sexy colleague can be quite difficult, especially when their is a strong attraction.
The secondary characters, more scientists from around the world are entertaining and very real. I also love Kate’s sister. Their conversations are full of advice and are funny too.
I don’t want to give too much away because you need to read this book. It is truly an enjoyable read.
I gave this book 4 fun and sexy stars. Be sure to add it to your TBR.
I’m looking forward to reading more of Verity’s writing soon.

Kate and Tom are strongly attracted to each other at first meeting. But they cannot, MUST NOT act on those feelings for it would endanger both of their careers as researching scientists as well as the future of the lab. Despite denial and good intentions, the magnetic pull overrides all self control and plunges them into hiding their affair.
As head of research, Kate is responsible for the fallout if their actions are revealed. The skillful writing portrays those feelings so vividly, the reader is easily swept up into the whirlpool of emotions and feels Kate's dilemma, including the hot sex.
Eventually, all spirals out of control and tragedy strikes leading to fear and heartbreak. But other hidden secrets come to light, as all secrets do. The dramatic ending is surprising. The intriguing plot and talented development of the story line captured my attention. I chuckled at the line, "I'm a twenty-eight year old man sitting in front of an incredibly beautiful woman. This is my natural state."
I had mixed feelings as I began reading The Science of Attraction by Verity Jacobs. I mean I have quite a few friends who have obtained the PhD in some science or another. They have and are still conducting research in their various areas. However, each of them have a weird quirky sense of humor and plain ole everyday weird tendencies. I am forever grateful I met them before they got too awkward and a can appreciate their beautiful minds. Nevertheless, I find their research admirable but unless they use an ordinary buzzword, I have no idea what they are talking about when they attempt to explain their bodies of work.
So this leads me back to the review of The Science of Attraction. I could relate to the premise but I was not sure how entertaining or amusing this novel could be. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised from the start. This was just a good novel. It was one of the smartest and sexiest reads to date. Kate Ramsey was smart and knew what she wanted and how to make things happen. She was strong and took charge in a field dominated by men but found herself in a deadened “arrangement” with the director of world-renowned research facility, Rob-“no last name needed”. It was clear and at times unclear the extent of their relationship, but none of that matters because in salters Tom “who can get it” Baker, from the longhorn state of Texas.
Kate is not the only one smitten at first site for Tom has had his lusty eyes on her ever since he saw her speak at a conference in California. Kate is none-the-wiser and pretends to carry on business as usual until she can’t any longer while they are away at a conference. One thing led to another and then another and badda-bing, badda-bang, badda-boom you have Kate creeping around with Tom and cheating on her “cuddy buddy”, who she is trying to “break-up” with, Rob.
I digress. This was a really good story that maintained a steady pace throughout the novel. All of the characters were well written and likeable, well, all of them, except for the diabolical Rob. I am definitely recommending that you run out and read The Science of Attraction by Verity Jacobs, because it will definitely cause you to look at research scientist in a different kind of way.

First of all let me tell you how much I enjoyed this subject matter. It's not often one reads about a brilliant heroine, or even hero for that matter. Attractive, yes, but smart, no. To have a romance take place in the settings of a lab was brilliant. It felt like the environment was fresh and so hopefully what happened in the story would be fresh too.
I can certainly say the romance between Kate and Tom was hot. As in I needed to fan myself to calm myself down. They started mentally stripping each other from the time they met, and didn't stop even once they'd finally acted on their feelings. In fact, it seemed liked once they'd started they couldn't stop! Not that that was a bad thing. It just seemed like their hormones took over!
I was a little torn about their relationship. I thought the two of them were great together, but Kate held the position of power in the lab, while technically Tom was her employee. Kate was also in a kind of relationship, even if it wasn't labelled and there was some infidelity. I also missed how the story went from incorporating science, the lab, and the experiments to just Tom trying to Kate anywhere and everywhere he could. And it's not Tom's fault. It's not like Kate resisted. The end did take me by surprise, just as it did Kate, Tom, and everyone else in the lab. Of course with Kate and Tom so wrapped up in each other, it would have been impossible for them to see that coming.
Overall I thought the story was different and entertaining. It was certainly steamy. This was my first book by Verity Jacobs and I really enjoyed it. I' m looking forward to reading whatever she writes next. I do hope she sticks with this sort of theme, brilliant men and women. It makes a nice change to have attractive people who are also intelligent and know how to have a good time.
Who knew that so much heat could be generated in a lab without Bunsen burners? Who knew that science could be so much fun? Kate Ramsey has made great strides professionally and is one of the youngest biologists to lead a team of her own. She’s also involved in a secret relationship with her much older boss, but she is satisfied with her life.
Until Tom Baker arrives. Tom with the face and body of a cover model. That Texan drawl. And brains. The first time their eyes meet, it’s instant chemistry. To give them credit, they tried to stay away from each other (after all it’s bad form to shag your subordinate), but could not resist the attraction between them. Smoldering glances, fleeting touches, stolen kisses all lead to a secret affair. Heads-up: keep a fan handy or some cold water, just something to cool you down because of the heat from the sexy times and they were a lot!
In the hands (or in this case, mouth) of a master, words can be used to charm and seduce and beguile and that was the high point of this book for me! The dialogue between Tom and Kate was so much fun to read, especially the subtext of their conversations.Tom is a very fascinating character – confident, sexy, smart and dominant and I would have loved to read the story from his POV. Ms. Jacobs makes us fall in love alongside Tom and Kate as we enjoy their slow slide into love, their witty conversations, their fear of discovery and losing everything they’ve worked for and their happy ever after.
The Science of Attraction is a combination of steamy heat and sweet romance and was so much fun to read. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

This book is not your typical boy loves girl. The story is about an incredible and beautiful young woman that is working with PhD students to achieved their doctoral in Science. So what happens when you put in a story a hot scientist with a very hot and very gorgeous scientist? Well you will have to read to find out.
Kate Ramsey was happy with her life, she had a great job, but her relationship with her boss was not what she had hoped for. Being secrecy about their romance was something that she wished it could be in the open. So when he boyfriend/boss tells her she has a new interned she has to mentored the last thing she expected was to find herself lusting after her Yankee hunk of employee.
Tom Baker was very familiar with Kate Ramsey and he had made everything possible to end up working with her to finish his PhD. So when he found himself in front of her he had to keep it cool because it was not a great idea to be lusting after his boss.
Can Kate and Tom keep their fireworks of attraction to themselves or will they exposed their secret romance before she can end her relationship with her boyfriend/boss?
I did not expected to be into nerds like I was with Tom Baker when I read this book. The story is so good it will keep you interested all the way til the end.
I will gladly recommend for you to read this incredible book.
I was given an ARC for an honest review. This is the story of Kate a very accomplished scientist at a research facility in Bonn Germany. She is the head of her own lab at a young age but she is also having an affair with the Director of the facility. Rob is a well know scientist and the head of a very prestigious research facility in Bonn Germany and his having an affair with an employee Kate which is not allowed. Kate is Rob’s dirty little secret because at this point all she really is is a booty call. Because of their job situation she is nothing more than an in apartment sexual encounter because they cannot be seen together. After a night of pillow talk Kate is informed she will be working with a new guy per Rob, in comes Tom a Harvard grad with the looks and body of any high paid runway model. Tom is a hit at the facility and the ladies are definitely enamored with the new guy. Unfortunately Tom has eyes for Kate which a no no. Kate is struggling herself with the sexual attraction she feels for Tom. This is their story and journey at finding love. Theirs is a journey of trying to fight the attraction than trying to hide the attraction. When the crap hits the fan what are these two lovers suppose to do. A nice enjoyable trip the author took me on.
Kate Ramsey is all about business. She has worked so hard to gain a foothold in the competitive world of research. Even her love life has taken a back seat to her ambition. She keeps a comfortable (but secret) relationship with her boss, Rob and everything seems to be right on track. Until the arrival of Dr. Tom Baker.
Tom is gorgeous, talented and far too sexy for his own good. He is a distraction that Kate can hardly afford. Now neither of them can deny their overwhelming attraction to each other and they know that one time will never be enough. But what will they do when it blossoms into something far more than just physical?
The Science of Attraction is both wildly sexy and sweetly romantic! Verity has captured the euphoria of new love along with the uncertainty of circumstances perfectly. The chemistry between Kate and Tom was completely off the charts and that alone made for one enjoyable and satisfying reading experience. With her quick wit and sexy prose, Verity has proven herself to be an author to watch for and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next...
This is my first Verity Jacobs book, and it won’t be my last. It was well written, and super witty. I really enjoyed the plot and the development of the characters was great.
Kate is a scientist at a research facility in Germany. She is actually the head of the lab, which is uncommon for someone so young. But I really enjoyed her spirit. She is actually having an affair with the director of this facility, which is totally taboo and not allowed.
Rob is the director of the research facility and he is the one having the affair with Kate, he makes it clear that what they have is just a booty call. They can’t even be seen with one another as a couple because they could both get into big trouble.
But then there is Tom, the new guy, the Harvard- who unfortunately is also a big no-no! He is going to work with Kate- but then the time spent is trying to fight this intense attraction that they feel towards one another.
The sparks fly in this romance, and I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read more from Verity. I was given an ARC for an honest review.
The Science of Attraction by Verity Jacobs is a quirky, steamy, well-paced romantic story of complicated situations, work ethics, secret lovers, hidden desires, and finding your way to what your heart truly wants.
Kate has a secret relationship going on with her boss but the new guy in her lab is driving her crazy in his pursuit. She can't give him a real reason to turn him down and doesn't want her boss to see his flirting.
What happens when your heart wants something that seems impossible to obtain.
You know those dirty thoughts you have when you see a really hot guy? The things you say in that dirty little head of yours and the very graphic images that cross it? Well, Kate is just like that! She shares with us her thoughts about the very hot new scientist Tom! Those were some hot fantasies she was having and I couldn't wait until they became a reality for her. ***full review coming to smibookclub.com***
Attraction is such an intriguing thing it could be a sound, a smell, a look, a combination of a few different things. Verity Jacob’s The Science of Attraction has the right mix of charming, seduction, and entertainment that made this read so enjoyable.
I did find it difficult to imagine everyone in this lab as adults, it just didn’t seem possible for me to phantom that these very educated lab techs were so awkward and random.
Lead research Biologist Kate is leading a secret relationship with her boss and lab director Rob who also happens to be very douche like finds her attention swayed when she is given a new recruit. That new recruit, Tom, just happens to be not only smart, but sexy as well. Everything about Kate’s attraction to Tom tells her no, but her body and heart is screaming yes.
While there is somewhat a love triangle, I found a way to justify it because Kate and Rob’s relationship seem more so based of the physical than anything else. Yes there is unnecessary drama that could have been avoided if people would use their communication skills but I guess that part of what makes things interesting.
The epilogue gives a sneak peek on what’s coming up next that I can’t wait to find out more.
I was provided with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The story revolves around Kate, an ambitious London-based scientist in Germany, running her own lab. Kate is someone who can't let get anything between her and her career goals - even her love-life. She has a secret affair with the director of her institute, and has morals lose enough that she didn't bat an eyelid in doing so. Her life is going according to her calculations. Except, she didn't count for a dashing young scientist to be assigned to work under her in her lab, who sweeps her off her feet and her senses. Irresistibly drawn to Tom, the new scientist, and unable to end her secret affair with the director, Kate is torn to shreds with the dilemma of choosing. Whom does Kate choose, and what price does she have to pay for her choice, is what the book takes us through.
The book is a breezy romance and the characters suit the theme of the book. The author has intended to create a world with characters who do not hesitate to step out of morals, and has managed to do that. The premise of the book calls for a light read. The narrative is engaging and the pace of the book flows just right. However, I would have loved to read more about the characterisation of Tom and Kate. Tom comes across as the persuasive young chap who would not take no for an answer, especially in matters of wooing. But what has made him the way he is? Does Kate resort to lose relationships out of fear for letting someone pierce her armour? These are questions I would have loved to read detailed answers to.
Nevertheless, the book was an enjoyable read and I recommend it to lovers of romance.
Kate and Tom are extremely likable characters that have great chemistry – not only in the work environment, but sexually as well. These two could not keep their hands off each other and at times I was comparing them to minks or rabbits, because they were constantly having sex – All.The.Time. In between all the hot sex, the conversations were witty and very entertaining.
The synopsis may lead you to believe that there is a love-triangle in this story, but really, there isn't. The relationship between Rob and Kate was one of convenience and mutual satisfaction and seriously, after you read this story, you will love what happens to Rob in the end. I was not a fan of Rob – nope, not at all. He was a total jerk!
The Science of Attraction was really fun to read! Who knew that science could be so fun and sexy? I loved all the characters (well, except for Rob). They were really a fun group of people and it looks like we will get to see some of them again in Ms. Jacobs next book The Music of Temptation. (YAY!!!)
I believe this is the author’s first book and with that being said, for a debut novel the writing was perfect and flowed very smoothly. This was a great read that you will definitely want to pick up if you enjoy romance stories with a lot of hot sex and witty humor – you will not be disappointed!
*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I discovered this book thanks to a review of another blogger and I got instantly curious about it. So, when the author contacted me asking if I wanted to review her novel, I couldn’t really resist. Now I’m not just happy I read it, I also encourage other readers to try this book because it’s not just good but original, too!
Who said smart people can’t be sexy as well? I didn’t and, if you did, this novel will prove you wrong. But it won’t simply make you swoon over scientists, it will crack a smile up on your face more often that you think. I loved that, and I really liked the fact that each character had a different attitude that attracted me in a way or another. What they all have in common, though, is the same love for science, and one of the beauties of this book is that you don’t necessarily have to be into lab language to follow what is being said or done. Verity Jacob’s writing is very fluent and it makes all sound fascinating, so much that you will find yourself captivated by everything that is going on. Yes, there is much more than just romance in the air . . .
In all honesty, I thought I was going to enjoy this book but I ended up loving it instead. Geeky, fun and sexy, an explosive mix that makes this a great debut novel!
I received a free copy of this book from the Author for an honest review. This does not affect in any way my opinion of the book nor the content of my review—originally posted on Darkest Sins.
The Science of Attraction was such a fun read. Lately it seems that hot, nerdish, scientists are the new black. Or biker/rockstar, as it were. Not gonna lie, I think I can get behind this trend because you know what, smart and focused is HOT. Especially when the attention to detail is trained on you, amirite?
Ahem. So what we have here is a fun, sexy workplace romance between Kate and Tom, more than mildy complicated by her sometimes-but not serious boss/lover Rob. I know what you're thinking...love triangle! Boo, hiss, ick! But really, there's not much of a triangle, especially when you experience the lust-turned-love between Kate and Tom.
The Science of Attraction was not only sexy, but fun! The lab the characters work at is full of cool characters with nerdy, sometimes really witty one-liners. It looks like co-worker Margot's story is up next, The Music of Temptation, and I'm really looking forward to following her adventures.

I felt my lips part as my chest heaved for air. Still smiling, he flexed his biceps slightly and shifted in his seat. "What?" he challenged. I fought back a smile, trying valiantly to find another place to look--finally settling on his eyes, which were now gleaming wickedly. "I'm a twenty-eight-year-old man sitting in front of an incredibly beautiful woman," he said. "This is my natural state."
Note: I bought this book. I was not provided a review copy.
I highly recommend this to any fan of contemporary romance/ romantic erotica who is tried of the female lead tripping over her own two feet or being naive.
Kate is smart and pulled together and comes unglued when she meets her match in Tom. They are hot together, no doubt, but I like how he fell for her -- seeing her give a paper at a conference. I love it when a man becomes smitten before the woman even knows of his existence. The thought of some guy pining for you -- what woman doesn't like that idea?
I also liked to think about the life of a research scientist. I was hoping to learn a little more about what Kate's work was, but I'm a nerd. I don't know any research scientists so this was a really fun peek at that life. The fact that the author comes from that world gives it a sense of reality.
Yes, as a few other reviewers noted, they do have a ton of sex. The only time it felt forced into the story was at the party. Otherwise, it was wonderfully hot and moved the story along.
Kate felt real to me and I enjoyed her interactions with her sister. Again, I highly recommend this book. And, if you do judge a book by its cover, well this cover is gorgeous and does justice to the interior. Give it a whirl!
Verity Jacob's The Science of Attraction is all out sexy, steamy erotica which was almost comedic but definitely still a love story between a woman at the height of her scientific career and the man who tempts her to toss out all sensibilities for their secret affair. This was quite fun to read especially when its the woman who is the boss and juggling one affair with her own boss and definitely falling for her junior. Kate's confusion and all out drooling for Tom while trying to keep it secret from her staff was quite amusing at first, then things started really getting steamy to all out erotica and everything you've ever fantasized about happening in the work place coming true type of thing. Although, I could have done without the hoopla about Kate's boss/ex-lover Rob, the scenario about putting your love life above your responsibility of being a senior staff member is actually a legitimate concern. Especially in Kate's case wherein she had an entire science program dependent on her. Still this was an erotic contemporary romance enough to keep you fanning yourself and still give you that fluffy, sweet feeling of romance. PS: Can't wait for Margot's turn!
This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. When I first read the details of this book, I thought it probably wasn't for me. Scientists and Science didn't seem like it would be my type of reading. I am glad I gave it a chance because Kate is a hot mess. Kate is the lead scientist in a lab in Bonn, Germany. She has been secretly dating her boss Rob for over a year (no one could know). Neither Rob nor Kate wanted to jeopardize their job or their work with an affair of the heart. Rob hired Tom, an American to work at the facility and Kate becomes very confused about what she wants in her life. Tek and Margot, grad students round out the lab fun with great personalities that come out on the page. I really enjoyed reading this novel. It is a fun easy read and I recommend it to anyone who loves contemporary romance and love triangles.
I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'll be completely honest it took a couple chapters for me to get into this book BUT when I got into it, I was INTO it. It's an adult book. You have a couple that is in (what I would consider) a mutually beneficial relationship. You have a employee getting involved with a boss, and a boss getting involved with an employee. The main players are intelligent, sexy and sassy.
I loved the interaction between the two, well let's make that three individuals. It's a steamy mix when these couples get together.
This is the first book I've read by Verity and I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to reading another book by Verity as well!
