There was way, way, way too much inner dialogue and not enough dialogue between the MCs.

I had to skim a lot. It felt like one long sermon at times. Where was the development of the relationship between the 2 MCs? They didn't know each other when the FMC moved back to Obsidian Bay but within a week or two they're saying "I love you" and he's leaving the priesthood.

There should have been more conversations between them...getting to know each other, discussing what their lives would look like if the MMC were to leave the church.

The confessional and altar scenes were hot though.

2.00 Stars. (BW/WM). Kindle Unlimited Edition 300+ page e-book.

Setting: Twenty-first Century America in locations the author called Paradise City and Obsidian Bay.

Trope: Insta lust between a priest and one of his female parishioners.

Main characters:
1. Father Cassian, male lead, is a 45-year old wealthy, handsome who entered the priesthood as a 25-year-old man .
2. Celeste Jackson , female lead, is a 38-year-old beautiful Black teacher who has returned to town as the caregiver to her aging mother.
3. Sisters Margaretta, Lucia, Genny, Beatrice and Eleanor are resident sisters who assist the priest.
4. Celeste's older sister and her family: Denise, Jerome,Madison and Tasha.
5. Mary, Celeste's mother was the Cathedral's organist for 40 years before she retired.

There is nothing romantic about this story. This is a voicing of the internal musings of two horney people. Father Cassian and Celeste are in situations where they feel obligated to suppress or deny their sexual urges. For most of the book, each conjures far-fetched sexual fantasies about the other and hope its reciprocal. Through Father Cassian's thoughts, the author discloses that St. Perseverance Cathedral is in a parish composed mostly of members of the malfia who kill all week then come to the Church on Sunday behaving piously and donating large sums of money... Don, Gianni Fortunato is the current crime boss and largest donnor. It also appears that Father Cassian's wealth is from his father's ties with a crime family. Cassian's joined the priesthood to avoid crime and womanizing and sort keep his sexual urges at bey via his commitment to the Church and to physical exercise and self flagellation. Celeste's feelings of love and obligation to her mother has had her spending a year doing on line teaching and caring for her mother; thus having little or no social or sexual life. Cassian and Celeste get a HEA. They start a family and Cassian is reinstated as a priest.

Author Taylor Rose better watch out! I’m about to read everything in her backlist. Actually, she has no idea who I am. After reading the first few pages of “Between You, Me, and God,” I did a deep dive. Okay, not a deep dive. I looked on her Instagram and found that Taylor Rose is the “dark alter ego” of Author Kenya Wright—mind blown. The author of “Dirty Kisses, " a very steamy and suspenseful mafia story that is a must-read, has written several dark and forbidden stories under a pen name.

Unlike “Dirty Kisses,” “Between You, Me, and God” is dark and forbidden. Taylor’s writing has the ability to fully capture a reader's attention through the right pacing from the beginning. Knowing just when to give and when to pull back. I became fully invested in Father Cassain’s character and how he was battling his temptations and desires for Celeste. The brutally graphic scenes in which he sought atonement gave my mind such a visual image. His conflicting feelings during prayer were heart-wrenching.

The steamy scenes were amazing! The build-up between the two was incredibly hot. And what happened to Sister Margaretta? I pounded the table and howled out laughing! Cassain is a virigina, and Celeste teaches him. There’s also a glø®y hole in the confessional. And if this doesn’t convince you, Cassain binds Celeste's hands to the bible with rosary beads while they get busy.

“Between You, Me, and God” is going in my re-read pile because there are scenes I need to revisit. The artwork inside is amazing as well.

I need to repent! Like over and over again! Where do I start?? This book was filthy good! Like so filthy! I was so uncomfortably entranced by the author’s writing, engaging prose, and stylistic setting, I got so lost in this lust-filled love story, I couldn’t put it down once I started.

Cassian & Celeste are sexy eye candy and you can feel the heat between them from their first encounter.

What I loved- their sexual tension. The slow build up to their big moment was done to perfection.

What I liked- The setting and the drama built around them with the Sisters and Celeste’s family issues. As someone with a loved one with dementia I can feel her pain, so this carried a special place in my heart.

What I wanted more of- the mafia entanglement. I wanted so much more of this. The way it ended makes me long for a continuation of their story—or similar stories—maybe with one of the Sisters and someone in mafia (please, please, pretty please…)

There’s so much to love about this story! I think this couple will stay on the top of my fave book couple list forever.

Well done 🖤

SHEESH!! 🥵
This was hot af! If the prologue doesn't grab you from the beginning then idk what will.
Caspian is OBSESSED with Celeste and has the filthiest thoughts about her. Only issue is he's a priest 😬 so he resorts to flogging himself to purge his unholy thoughts.
Celeste is dealing with a sick mom and needs someone to lean on, which happens to be Father Cassian 😈
They essentially turn each other out... OBVIOUSLY in the church 😎
Rose/ Wright knows how to write spice and I absolutely adore her writing.

The images throughout the book honestly had me laughing my ass off, not to mention the amount of c** that man was releasing seemed like a medical issue lmao

The spice was spicing but everything else was kind of lacking, and this seemed to be a stream on consciousness and 90% inner monologue which just had me skimming bc it really wasn’t important to story aside from Cassian being in a perpetual state of self damnation l.

Mixed feelings

I like to write my reviews as a read so that I don't forget anything. I had a slightly different review and star rating before the last few chapters. There's going to be positives, negatives and light spoilers. Also, there's solo blood play, fyi. That wasn't listed in the TW.

Ms. Taylor Rose is going to Hell and taking us with her.. 😁

Is what I thought in the beginning of the Jesus chapter, lol. Honestly, I share some the same viewpoints. Thee book was written to subjugate and control the narrative. The fact that a panel got to sit and vote on what was to be enclosed; it makes it hard to believe a word if it. However, I flipped through that chapter so fast, lol. Thinking about where it was going gave me a bit of anxiety, lol. After I unclutched my pearls, I went back and actually read it. If nothing else, the author paints a riveting vivid picture. I shed a tear at the depiction. I'm glad that I didn't skip over it.

Father Cassien had some really good prayers. The author did an excellent job of making him look like a true man of God in a fight for his life and who he is without this to define him. I felt bad watching his descent into damnation, as he thought but, really his struggle between desire and piousness. I felt as though I could really feel his anguish about not hearing the voice of God when he felt like he was struggling the most.

Then it kinda fell apart for me. Honestly, with the second to last chapter (25?), it felt like we were being trolled. It didn't feel organic. It didn't feel like, "its a bit risqué but, I want it to go here." Like the confessional scene. It felt more like, "what is the most outlandish, most ridiculous and possibly disturbing thing I can think of..." 🤔 Okay, lets go with desecrating an antique Bible and a cum shot to the face. It didn't feel titillating. It felt like it was just meant to shock. There are so many other ways it could have been sexy. Their banter in the beginning when she said that she wanted to confess her sins was a good lead in.

Sigh, I had high hopes for this one. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. I sat on my review for a day. I wanted to make sure it wasn't my Christian upbringing that soured the last few chapters for me. That wouldn't be fair to the author as the elements of the book are clearly written and no one forced me to read it. I decided it wasn't. I would have felt the same if it was a Buddhist temple, a synagogue or a Wiccan alter. It started as a 5 star but the previously mentioned thing and the writing style which, after reading another book, seems to be her preference, lowered it for me. I LOVE the way she's able to pull you in and make you see what she sees. Even without the pictures, which are a wonderful touch. Its just so repetitive at times. We get it, you're a Priest but, man... It feels like the literary version of a themed party, if that makes sense. Every comment, every thought revolves around that one thing and it just get old after a while. I would have only taken off half a star for that because repetition is a personal grievance but, Amazon only allows whole stars.

On another note, I'm so goofy. I was looking at the first few pictures thinking, "Why is he in the shower?" 🙈 smh, lol. I looked at them again and was like, Oh. OH! Lol

I was going to rate this a 3 but decided to up it to 3.5 because it was giving TUBI after about 50% and while it’s not what I was looking for, I can dig it. There is a warning of over-the top spicy scenes and there wasn’t a lie told. And the illustrations?! There was one that had my jaw dropping and I had to make sure my kids weren’t around (see: self flagellation scene and trust me it’s NOT what you’re thinking).

I thought I was going to get PRIEST vibes but it was a bit underdeveloped to me. Over 300 pages and it was a lot of telling instead of showing. I mean, there was what seemed like ENDLESS internal dialogue at some points I started skimming.

The spice was great though and the concept was dope. I was entertained reading but wasn’t captivated.

SN: the scenes with Jesus made me lowkey uncomfortable 😂 if you want spoilers as to why just read some of my highlights. Mind you, that’s not the half of it 😂

UPDATE:

After thinking about it and realizing I’m still grossed out by sexy Jesus I went back to 3.

Haha… I’m done. Clearly, I am not the target audience.

I went in expecting love, conflict, then some steamy moments. You know, a slow burn? But nope—by page one, the priest was already mentally creaming his cassock over some mystery woman we, the readers, haven’t even met yet.

Then suddenly, he’s having a full-blown identity crisis and self-flagellating like it’s a competitive sport… only to forget all about it five minutes later because, surprise, he’s lusting after the same girl.

Oh, and of course he’s secretly rich and well-connected. Because why not?

Meanwhile, the girl is deeply concerned about her mother one minute… and the next, she’s basically a human water fountain. Priorities!

I officially tapped out when Sexy Jesus showed up and started acting like a seductress toward our FMC. I mean—what?!

Bonus points for the book’s graphics, though. At least someone showed up to work.

Insanely gripping! You 100% get what’s on the packaging because ‘Between, you, me and God’ was a forbidden Priest romance that made me feel like I was sinning but I already committed so I had to finish.

Whew chileeeee, Father Cassian was a god and Celeste was his to submit to. The whole storyline of the church just flowed and very clearly showed that even people in high positions struggle with carnal sins.

The overall execution was great, just felt that I was a bit toooooooo descriptive at times so I was like ohhhhhhh ok, moving on but otherwise if you want something that gives you the flutters I say give it a go.

CLUTCHING MY ROSARY.. and I am NOT catholic!

This book right here… where do I even begin? This author captured the intensity the attraction how this author correlated the Bible Catholicism the imagery just everything into a book just…Whew! Honey… grab your pearls grab your rosary and some wine cause you were gonna be in enthralled. I read this in a day it is that good. The passion between Father Cassian and Celeste are dynamic! It is something I’ve never seen captured in a book, I’ve seen it between people, but never in a book! This book is Mui Caliente! Like I have to go grab a physical copy of the book!

THUS THOU TEMPT ME?!?!?

If Taylor Rose doesn't do anything else, she is going to ALWAYS push the envelope! This was so sinfully enthralling that I could not look away, and I was ashamed of how much I loved it. 🤦🏿‍♀️ Cassian’s and Celeste’s need and longing for each other is so palpable that it practically leaks off the page to where I was constantly looking behind me to make sure no one was peeking over my shoulder at what I was reading. 🫣 I just know I’m going to h3ll, but for now, I love it here in Obsidian Bay! 🙏🏿

Oh My… !

I am speechless !!
I don’t know what to say or how to review this book. I need to be cleansed with holy water … no joke! lol

This book is well written, and definitely a page turner.
I felt Father Cassian agony , trying to overcoming his feelings to do the right thing, to the point of trying to « purge  » the sinful thoughts… 😢 And people like sister Margeretta are one of the reasons people running away from church.
I am glad he found his peace and happiness and a fine balance.

You will need to repent

I wanted to stop reading this book because whew this book is a sin. Baby what I thought was going to be a book about temptation was a holy blasphemy but yet I couldn’t stop reading it. The author wrote such vivid words that I could see the story in my mind. The inner dialogue of Celeste and Father Cassian was amusing yet you understood the gravity of the sins they were committing. All I can say is this book will have you clutching your pearls and saying a prayer asking forgiveness.

The Confessional & The Pulpit

The Confessional & The Pulpit scenes are going to make your toes curl. If you're not ready, don't pick up this book unless you have done the 3 things: grab some water, a fan, and make sure you're sitting down just in case you faint. And when you're done, you'll want to read it again so get some fresh air before you start again because you will fall out from this HEAT!

interestingly, good

I know I said this book is good, but this book is more than good. It is great. I absolutely love the storyline for a minute there it had me clutching my nonexistent pearls. Love the characters. It’s just so easy to get caught up in the book. Recommend to anyone interested in a different storyline than what they would normally see in a love story cause this is definitely different.

Forgive me Father Cassian😯

Forgive me father as I have sinned just reading this book😯 Father Cassian is a gentle, kind, loving, caring priest taking care of his flock,: and then he meets the embodiment of temptation in the lovely Celeste & all hell breaks loose👿 Wow!!!😯 What a ride on this literary journey of angst, passion & forbidden ❤. It was great to see other characters from the ✍️s fictional town of Obsidian Bay , especially Don Fortunato from the Claimed -Bound duet📚. So happy Cassian & Celeste found their HEA 👩‍👩‍👧

Devotion to God and Man

Father Cassian, loved God and people, but he had an obsession with a member of his church, Celeste. Celeste had returned to town to take care of her mother Mary, who had been the organist, before Alzheimer's had set in. Father Cassian didn't know how to handle his thoughts of Celeste. Celeste had ungodly thoughts of Father Cassian too. When they finally figured it out, it was God sent.

OMG!

I absolutely love this story! I was hooked from the first page. This story is about forbidden romance. Taylor Rose did her thang on this one. Celeste and Cassian is two souls that belong together. I'm being very vague about this story because I do not want to spoil it for anyone! Definitely a must read!

This was a very good story, there were parts that disturbed me a little, but then I had to think of it as the writer's choice. Between you, me and God was truly an amazing book. I was not aware that priests could marry. Then again it might just be the writer's imagination, but it made me wonder. Kenya Wright is a phenomenal woman, and a great writer.

I’m going to go pray for my soul now

That was a good read. I think it was written very well understood the characters and their journey. Only thing it did feel a bit like it was making a mockery of religion just a bit. Writer took a lot of liberty in turning the word of god to justify what I saw as lust. If that would trigger you I would not read this.
