Wonderful collection of poetry in a wide range of styles. I haven't read it cover to cover yet, but the gems I've read so far haven't disappointed. Would highly recommend you buy a copy and support a very talented group of young poets.

"Maybe the heart is a vault, and poetry is the key that unlocks it." - Decker J. Martin, As the Frost Melts

As the Frost Melts is a collection of seasonal poetry -- seasons of the human heart as well as those of the natural world. Ranging from the playful to the poignant and giving voice to diverse perspectives through both metric and free verse, these poems are all rooted in the belief that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." If you enjoy themes like heartache, hope, frailty, and faith, and vivid descriptions of snow and sea and sky, then this book might be for you!

I had the pleasure of reading an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review. As with any anthology, I enjoyed some poems more than others, but it was absolutely worth the read and I can see myself revisiting it in the future!

As the Frost Melts is wonderful! I loved the variety in poetic form and genre. Each author brought something beautiful to the table in their writing – the glory of creation, pictures of youth and age, life and death, joy and despair. Sometimes it is energetic, sometimes calming and whimsical; sometimes funny, sometimes serious. Thought-provoking and entertaining in turn, this is a fantastic debut perfect for lovers of poetry and the wonders of life alike. I had the pleasure of pre-reading it before publication in exchange for my honest review, and I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Personally, I don't usually like reading poetry. The rhymes often seem silly to me, and I've read quite a few books in verse, which I probably shouldn't have read. But this. Wow. Each poem done with thoughtful wording and beautiful imagery, this anthology was an amazing, beautiful read. I know I will be re-reading it over and over again for many years to come. Thank you friends, for an amazing book!

Quick summary:
* Winter, in the beginning, is a bit depressing (but the sadness soon changes)
* Gems throughout
* Insight into how teenagers see the world and how we filter our thoughts, trying to make sense of our lives
* Reminder of beauty in the seasons
* Beautiful images

SUMMARY
As The Frost Melts is a picture of the world. A world seen through the eyes of those trying to make sense of it, and to see the beauty in the mundane or even painful. Hope and love for the Creator and His creation pervade the anthology. The poems themselves are of varying quality, and some I liked less than others, but the treasures tucked in the pages made this book a worthwhile read for me.

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The book begins fittingly in winter, meaning many of the poems in the beginning are melancholy (a couple downright depressing). I think this is to establish a contrast with the hopeful spring to come, but was a little off-putting at first.

WHAT I DISLIKED
As I mentioned above, the sad start seems to indicate a sad book. Although this isn’t true — light, colour, and joy filter their way in as the anthology progresses through the next three seasons — it deterred me a little at the beginning.

As far as the quality of the poems themselves, the poets are of varying skill levels. The perception of the quality of the individual poems depends partially on the reader - several different styles of poetry are featured and I liked some more than the others.

WHAT I LOVED
I loved the attitude of hope that the poems took on as the brighter seasons progressed. A couple poems are rare gems; a few poems are of great beauty; most of the poems are pretty, and thoughtful, and made me stop and think.

The collection is from the perspective of young writers with articulate voices, and brings to mind many pictures of beauty. The pictures remind me sometimes of familiar images from the seasons of my life; and sometimes unfamiliar images of places far from my home but lovely all the same. It also reflects the Christian hearts of the poets - looking for God and for hope in the midst of confusing times.

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS
As The Frost Melts was a journey to read. I would recommend reading a few poems at a time to better appreciate and think about them. It’s picturesque and tender, evoking mental images of life and the seasons and just being a teenager. Many of these poems I will want to reread over and over again, and I hope you will enjoy them too.

As the Frost Melts is a collection of poetry about nature and life by a group of aspiring young authors. It is worth the read!

The authors have talent in cadence, rhyme, and portraying beauty. Some of the poems are melancholy, some sentimental, some hopeful. It's a good balance. The poems are all worded beautifully and feed my imagination. I savored each piece.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes to play with their imagination and has a fancy for poetry!
