Lessons From a Tree: Yoga Poses for Happy Kids

Rate this book
The practice of yoga has much in common with Judaism, including the beliefs for living a happy life and the values that help get us there. The link between the two can strengthen and fortify our separate practice of each and, ultimately, our quality of life.

In Lessons From A Tree, the main character, Adan (pronounced Ay-din), learns about the Jewish holiday of Tu B’Shvat (pronounced Tu Bi SHVAT), also called The Birthday of the Trees. In celebrating the values and gifts of trees, Adan also learns how we can apply these attributes to find peace and harmony in our bodies and in our minds. Just as Adan discovers the benefits of mindfulness and yoga poses in connection with Tu B’Shvat, readers of Lessons From A Tree are prompted to move their own bodies like trees, the animals that live there, and the products that come from them.

Lisa Schreiber is a yoga instructor sees how Yoga and Judaism both embrace some of the same values. In this book a mom tells her young son that Tu B'Shvat is a birthday celebration for trees. She tells him all about the wonderful things that trees can provide and teaches him different yoga poses, the instructions and diagrams for the poses are clear and precise. This would be a great book for a parent and child to share. While they read, they can try out the poses together and also discuss the importance of trees. families and teachers will also find this a great book to read on Arbor Day or Earth Day. however both appreciation of nature and taking care of one's health are concepts to be explored any day of the year.
