New York Times and USA Today best selling author Nina Bruhns is an avid world traveler and adventurer with two graduate degrees in archaeology -- all great fodder for her stories, giving them broad dimension, vivid settings and characters that are out of the ordinary. In addition to hitting both the NY Times and USA Today bestseller lists, her novels have earned two RITA nominations, and won numerous other awards, including three prestigious Daphne du Maurier Awards of Excellence for Overall Best Mystery Suspense Novel of the Year, five Dorothy Parker Awards, several RT BookClub Awards and a National Readers Choice Award.
A native of Canada, Nina grew up in California and currently resides in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina.
Abby was taken captive one night while traveling and was held captive as a sex slave. She was finally able to escape but then she was stranded in the middle of the ocean while 8 months pregnant. She was found and rescued by a Naval ship. The Captain Eric was instantly drawn to her and compelled to protect her. Eric has some misguided views about women in the Navy. He doesn't feel that they should be there he feels that it is too dangerous. Therefore, he has made many enemies with the Female Naval Officers.
When one Vengeful female officer decides she doesn't like his view of women she decides she is going to take him down and files a false sexual harassment report against him. Meanwhile Eric and Abby have grown very close and he knows he wants to be with her but he wants to keep her away from all of the rumors of what the female officer is claiming. He does not want Abby to think badly of him. When Abby finally finds out what is going on will she turn on Eric or will she be the one to Save him like he saved her?
My Opinion: I thought that this was a great series. I obviously did not like Eric's views of women, however, I do like how being with Abby helped change how he seen women. I have read books by this author before and I have never been disappointed. I will definitely be reading more by this author and I highly recommend reading this book. It is definitely a case of the man rescuing the woman but in reality she saves him from himself.
I borrowed this set from the library because the authors Taylor Lee, Lorhainne Eckhart, Rita Herron, Jill Sanders, & Dana Marton. The only story I enjoyed in this set was Deathblow by Dana Marton. This story had action & this story stayed on track. I'm sorry the other stories didn't keep my interest. I'm glad this introduced me to authors Nina Bruhns, Mary Leo, Julie Leto, Patricia Mason, & Karen French.
A copy was provided by Netgalley for an honest review.
The Naughty Nine has some really great authors. While I did not love all of the books in this collection, there is a lot of talent and full length novels for one great price. Worth the price even if you don’t love them all.
This was an great box set!!! These are all full length novels and while I did enjoy some stories more than others, all in all I'd still say grab it!!! You won't be sorry!! :)
Wow! Bridge is one sexy as hell undercover cop. His sexy body and his wink and grin boy Mary Alice didnt have a chance. Loved Mary Alice, shes sweet, caring and oh so protective of her heart. These two are flirty and cute together but boy when things get hot they get hot. Love these too together. Love the story, it's intriguing but mostly sexy and sweet, Bridge didn't have a chance to get away...great story 4 stars
Red Rock Rises (The Red Rock Series, Book 1) by Taylor Lee
Nanee's Review:
Love these characters. Especially Jesse wow! She's a kick ass bad ass, sweet, shy and vulnerable women who always relied on herself. Wolf is tough as nails, bad ass, sexy as hell (swoon) and so amazing in every sense, I loved the basketball and what Wolf does for his community. These two characters are so hot together, scorchingly hot. Love Trey too, he's a awesome kid, shy and sweet and loves his mom. I wanted to slap "the Dr"..lol..This story was amazingly written, action packed, sexy as hell, WTF moments and holy shit moments are everywhere. Wow! Loved this story from start to finish, can't wait to read more by this author. This story has it all, love, sadness, kick ass moments and happiness. Oh yeh and I loved Sean too, I think he did the best he could with Jesse and they both obviously love each other, I think she's a kick butt mom.. I want more..lol..My Favorite in this box set...5 stars
Dirty Little Secrets by Julie Leto
Nanee's Review:
When I read the blurb about this book it sounded very intriguing and unique, and it was. I enjoyed the characters, the action packed plot, the what the hell moments and more. I wasn't as in love with this book as I thought I would be but it was very good. The author captured my attention but in some parts not so much. Marisela is a tough as nails bounty hunter a complete change from her gang years and Frankie well he's bad to the bone that's for sure..these two characters are amazing together. Great read...4 stars
Saved by Lorhainne Eckhart
Nanee's Review:
This story concept was great, a captain rescues a pregnant women whose been held captive as a sex slave. The story itself was good but not great, I don't feel completely connected to the characters there was not a lot of emotion for me I wanted to get head over heels into this story but couldn't quit get into it. I thought Eric and Abby having the HEA was great along with Rachel and happy for them but the story itself was just ok, no wow for me. 3 stars
Everything He Never Wanted by Mary Leo
Nanee's Review:
I enjoyed this story, I liked the characters, although I think some parts were a little dull or slow I thought the over all book was good. I liked Antonio he's very sell assured and sexy (and knows it) and Margot is sweet and giggly and needs some action. These two are cute together, flirty and fun I think. Sexy in parts too...I did not like Jackie, I thought she was conniving and mean and pretentious. But as the story unfolds so does the love between Antonio and Margot and I thought it was a nice read. 3.5 to 4 stars
A Girl, A Guy and A Ghost by Patricia Mason
Nanee's Review:
A paranormal reporter on a quest to find ghosts meets a sexy as hell PI. This book is full of crazy, quirky, funny and wacky characters. I enjoyed the story to a certain extent but wanted more, I got a little irritated or frustrated with the plot here and there. I thought it could have been better. 3 stars
Deathblow by Dana Marton
Nanee's Review:
This is the first in this series and by this author I read. I enjoyed it but it didn't totally wow me. Joe's a cop working undercover with time on his hands after a accident his friend is murdered and in comes Wendy. Wendy is a being abused by her sons father and she just wants to get away. Wendy and Joe had a one night stand a few months ago then he's assigned to watch her, find out who murdered his friend and try and stop a gang war. Action packed, intriguing and sexy...did I say how hot as hell Joe is? ..4 stars
One Night to Kill (Seven Nights, Book 1) by Rita Herron
Nanee's Review:
Very intriguing, sexy and wow! How can you not love a sexy as hell special ops military guy...love Max and Willow. Willow is feisty, flirty and self conscience of her looks. Love these two together . This story kept me on my toes, it's a real page turner and you won't want to put it down until its done. Loved the action and sexy ness of the story, but can't say enough about Max...wow! Enjoyed this story 4 stars
Snowbound (The Protector Series, Book 2) by Karen Fenech
Nanee's Review:
This is the first I have read in this series and I enjoyed it. I love a suspenseful and intriguing story. The characters are fantastic too, a lot of Plot twists and what the hell moments (which I love) but the romance I felt was lacking a bit, no wow! to me just ok...but I would like to read more in this series and by this author I would jut want more romance and sexier too, not much sexy either but over all a good book. 3.5 to 4 stars
BONUS Novella: Secret Identity by Jill Sanders
Nanee's Revew:
Love Eve and Carter, great main characters, They have been friends all their lives and both have feelings for each other but they never found the "right time" to share their feelings. When Eve has a tragic experience and is left with no memory Carter is by her side, sharing memories with her and being their for her..Love him.. they find the love they always felt for each other again but it didn't come easy. I couldn't put this book down once I started reading, I wanted more, the story was great and the characters were even better. Very emotional and sad but uplifting and Loving all in one...5 stars .
Review by Nanee at upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com
This box set will take you a while to get through (took me 9 days) as all the books are full-length novels but it's definitely worth the time. It was exactly what I was looking for as I'm going through a military/cop phase right now so this seemed like a great option. Anyway, I'll give a mini review on each book now, otherwise I'll be writing pages.
Stop in the Name of Love by Nina Bruhns It took me a while to get into this book. I felt the names were a bit strange as for me they felt slightly dated and old and I also found their language t be annoying at times--especially some of their thoughts. Because of that, I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this book, which wouldn't have been a good start to the box set. However, it definitely picked up and I'm glad the thoughts became less. I found myself unable to stop reading by the end and I did find the characters grew on me as their story developed. A good read.
Red Rock Rises (The Red Rock Series, Book 1) by Taylor Lee This was a good book that kept me hooked all of the way through. There was plenty going on to hold my interest and there were a few twists. The only downside for me that for a decorated military person who was supposedly strong, Jesse did seem to break down at the slightest things. It just didn't fit with how everyone portrayed her. Overall though, I did enjoy it.
Dirty Little Secrets by Julie Leto I really struggled with this book and thought of marking it as DNF a few times. I found that it didn't hold my attention as well as the previous books and that I skimmed quite a few sections that seemed to drag. I liked the overall concept and idea but it wasn't hot enough for me and the action took too long to arrive which was annoying as it was good when it did.
Saved by Lorhainne Eckhart There's a part of me telling me that I should hate this book because of the leading male (Eric). However, another part of me really enjoyed the overall story. I could feel for Abby and her situation, plus a lot happened which was a surprise due to the isolated location of the ship. It may have not been as steamy as the other books in this box set and the leading male may have been a complete jackass with his chauvinistic attitudes, but it was a strangely good read--despite winding me up.
Everything He Never Wanted by Mary Leo DNF
I tried to read this book but I just found it a bit cringey. When I read the daughter telling her mother she needed "dirty sex", I just knew I wouldn't be able to finish this book. I found from then on I couldn't help but imagine the MC as an old woman. Sorry, not for me.
A Girl, A Guy and A Ghost by Patricia Mason I will admit that I only read the blurb and the first page of this book. It just didn't sound like my thing so I couldn't bring myself to read it as I wouldn't have picked it up had it been sold separately. I can't comment on the story or writing, so please don't avoid it, this is just a personal taste in the books I like to read.
Deathblow by Dana Marton This wasn't an easy read for me because of the subject nature, but it was a good one. I liked Joe and the situations Wendy found herself in were dealt with sensitively. The story was written well and had me hooked from start to finish. There was a lot of action and a relationship built nicely among the hardships the characters faced. I may have liked a bit more hotness, but then again it may have not fitted well because of the nature of the book. I really like this read.
One Night to Kill (Seven Nights, Book 1) by Rita Herron I loved this book and I definitely think it was my favourite in the box set. It was fun, flirty, had an element of danger and the characters were great. I just adored Max and he was definitely one of the hot alpha males you get in these types of reads. I liked his strength and control but also how he lost it around Willow. The danger that surrounded Willow built nicely and who was behind it was hidden well and it complimented how the characters fell for each other. I also liked the small twist at the end!
Snowbound (The Protector Series, Book 2) by Karen Fenech DNF
I tried to stick with this book and I made it to 65% but I was finding myself skimming more and more as the book went on. It sounded interesting from the blurb and started well but sadly, it just didn't hold my attention well so I decided to stop.
BONUS Novella: Secret Identity by Jill Sanders This was an okay read. I found it a little hard to connect with the characters and it was shorter that the rest so it didn't have as much detail, but it was still an interesting read.
The Naughty Nine is a collection of books from different authors, including Nina Bruhns and Rita Herron. You’ll find yourself wanting to read this collection nonstop, as the male leads from each individual book get hotter, sexier, and naughtier than the last. The female leads are also really strong in this collection, particularly Jessie from Red Rock Rises and Marisela from Dirty Little Secrets. These ladies don’t need a man to protect them because they could kick his butt!! This is a really strong collection of wonderfully talented writers that take you on journeys that may elicit laughter one moment, tears the next, but will always be entertaining. Stop in the Name of Love, by Nina Bruhns, is the story of Police Sergeant Russell Bridger (Bridge) and Mary Alice. Bridge goes undercover to get dirt on a friend of Mary Alice’s for a case, but ends up going deeper than he might have liked on this one. This read will definitely make you want to be stopped and searched by Bridge. Deathblow, by Dana Marton, is another cop story, and the fourth in Marton’s Broslin Creek series. Although it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. Former football jock turned cop is protecting single mom Wendy. This was an emotional read for me on a number of levels and created a lot of empathy for Wendy’s character. A Girl, A guy and A Ghost, by Patricia Mason, was highly entertaining. I’ve read books similar to this in nature, but they’ve always taken it the more serious route. I found Mason’s novel to be a breath of fresh air that had me laughing at every page. It’s the story of Giselle, a reporter given a short deadline to find a real ghost story to write about, ends up finding everything but, including hottie P.I. Ry. Everything He Never Wanted, by Mary Leo, is the story of Antonio and Margot. Antonio is a man after my own heart, a guy who would fly thousands of miles for a book, yet what he finds at his destination is far more priceless, his true love. This read is smoldering, and contained one of my favorite lines in the entire collection, “Make love to me until there’s nothing left but ash.” Red Rock Rises, by Taylor Lee, is the story of Jesse and Dameon, and is the first in the Red Rock Series. Jessie is a special ops agent and Dameon is a police chief, and together these two can bring the heat to the bad guys and to the bedroom. I really enjoyed that Jessie can really hold her own and is such a strong powerful woman. Dirty Little Secrets, by Julie Leto, is the story of Marisela and Frankie. Marisela is a bounty hunter who shares a past with Frankie. When she has to track him down, it’s only natural that feelings thought to be long gone will reemerge. One Night to Kill, by Rita Heron, was another breath of fresh air that had me laughing through the pages. Max and Willow are about as different as you can get. Max is a bomb expert, and Willow is in the business of phone sex. Although they differ so much in their professions, they are very similar in their likes in the bedroom. Saved, by Lorhainne Eckhart, was another emotional read that made me bring out the box of tissues on this one. Abby’s story is tragic, yet Eric saves her on so many levels. The emotion in this story really gripped me and held on through the entire read. Snowbound, by Karen Fenech, is Mallory and Gage’s story. They are both in law enforcement, she in the FBI, and he a police captain, working together to bring down a human trafficker. This read is filled with suspense and a real page turner. Secret Identity, by Jill Sanders, is the fifth in a series, but can be read as a standalone. Eve and Carter have been friends for a long time, but both of them have feelings for one another that they’ve never divulged. When the two of them go on a business trip, will the knowledge of how they truly feel for one another result in the end of their friendship? This read will really make you think about letting that good guy friend of yours out of the friend zone and into your heart and bedroom.
This box set will take you a while to read. These are all full length books! Stop in the Name of Love- by Nina Bruhns: This was a really sweet sexy story about overcoming the past and facing the future. Um, I'm sure we've all had fantasies about hot construction workers. Too bad none of them in my area look like Bridge :)
Red Rock Rises- by Taylor Lee: I really enjoyed the characters, except how weak Jesse was portrayed. As a Major in the military, you would have expected her to not break down as much as she did. I also expected the story to be hotter than it was. I loved Dameon and Trey. The plot was exciting and great, like I said, I just wish Jesse had been stronger!
Dirty Little Secrets- by Julie Let: I loved this one! So far it's my fave. Lots of action and sexiness! The characters were well written and felt real to me. I am certainly going to look up more books from this author!
Saved by Lorhainne Eckhart: I have to say, I've read a book by this author before and didn't really enjoy it. This story blew me away. By far, up to now, it is my favorite in this box set! I loved the characters, the drama, the friction. I'm anxious to read a follow up with them. I think this story urged me to give this author another chance to read something else by her. Eric was well written. You hate to love him. It's one of those stories where the character truly evolves. Abby was just amazing. What a survivor. My favorite so far until I read the rest of the book.
Everything He Never Wanted by Mary Leo: This was ok. But I'm not a fan of the "Marriage proposal after a couple of days" type story. For me, it really didn't excite me any. It wasn't a horrible story, but it just wasn't my favorite.
A Girl, A Guy and A Ghost by Patricia Mason: Having never read anything by this author, I wasn't sure what to expect. I have to say, this is close to being my favorite in the book. It's not super hot/sexy, but it's fun, witty and interesting. I loved the dialogue. Giselle had me lauging so much. This was a fun book. I actually am looking forward to reading more from this author!
Deathblow by Dana Marton: This is intense! This author either knows from experience or did a lot of research on abusive relationships. The story was a great read. I found myself caught up in it and didn't want to put it down. I felt for Wendy. This is a story you need to read.
One Night to Kill (Seven Nights, Book 1) by Rita Herron: Holy hotness. This was one awesome story. I love Max. Honor, Loyalty, and Sexy! Mmm. Willow was a well written woman. The suspense was well played throughout the story and not rushed. This is now one of my faves in this box set!
Snowbound by USA Today Best Selling author Karen Fenech: This was an interesting story. A cop with a past he's running from. An FBI agent fighting for justice. Together can they bring down a sex trafficking ring? You'll be shocked and awed, turning the pages in this story.

I had such a hard time putting this one down. I was drawn in from the start and loved the characters.
Mary Alice pretty much gave up on love. She wants to live just a safe contained life but can't help but fantasize about the super sexy construction worker on her street.
Bridge is an undercover cop on assignment trying to catch Mary's neighbor and can't help but want her in the process.
The chemistry between the two is so hot! You can't help root for them even knowing both of them don't want relationships due to different issues. Bridge is so sexy. He's very arrogant but funny. I seriously adored him. I zoomed through this one in a couple of hours.
I definitely enjoyed this authors writing style and will be reading more from her in the future.
Red Rock Rises by Taylor Lee:
Another new series for me to follow! I zoomed through this one in less than a day. It was full of action and suspense, mystery and a really hot romance!
I really loved Jesse. She's a very strong woman but also has feelings and shows them. At some points she could be very emotional but it was understandable with all that she's been through. She left the Army to try and get her son and facing past demons.
Dameon or Wolf as he is known is definitely swoon worthy material. Very alpha male. He's just all together a great guy. I loved the tension and chemistry between him and Jesse. I couldn't wait for them to get their HEA.I liked how they built their relationship. It was very much a slow burn.
This was very well written. I really felt for the characters. It was a great story and start to the series.
A book with a rich story line, breathtaking action and romantic suspense that keeps you turning the pages until the very end....
His last encounter with Wendy... Hell, she'd been the one to hurt his feelings. The best sex of his life, and she'd kicked him out as soon as it was over, told him not to bother with calling because it was strictly a one-time thing. Told him, actually, while he'd still been inside her. He groaned at the memory as he slipped behind the wheel, turning on the heat the second he had the engine started. His day was shaping up to be an ass kicker. Which was saying something, considering that the day before included his arrest, a concussion, and a near drowning.
DEATHBLOW by Dana Marton is a very good romantic suspense read! It's the fourth book in Dan's Broslin Creek series. Each book in this series features a different officer in the small town Broslin Police Department as a lead character and each has their own stories, so any of them can easily be enjoyed as a standalone out of series order. DEATHBLOW is a fast-paced, intensely realistic, action-packed thriller with a compelling romance featuring Wendy Belle as the damsel in distress heroine and Joe Kessler as the sexy law enforcement hero.
My full review has been posted to Reading Between The Wines Book Club.
This is collection of 9 stories that combine a bit of danger with a lot of attraction.
The collection includes: Stop in the Name of Love by Nina Bruhns Deathblow by Dana Marton A Girl, A Guy And A Ghost by Patricia Mason Everything He Never Wanted by Mary Leo Red Rock Rises by Taylor Lee Dirty Little Secrets by Julie Leto One Night To Kill by Rita Heron Saved by Lorhainne Eckhart Snowbound by Karen Fenech Secret Identity by Jill Sanders
Some of these stories are more enjoyable than the others, depending on your taste, but over all this collection was fun and entertaining. You get a little bit of everything and a whole lot of romance. Plus everyone knows a story with danger leads to some fun romantic encounters.
Don't miss the chance to acquire 9 amazing books and a bonus novella. This collection features excellent writing, characters and lots of romance and sensuality. I thought I would read them like short stories, but once I started the collection, I worked my way straight through. Did I like them all equally, well, no, but I did discover some interesting new authors, and I would say that each book is well plotted, has strong engaging characters, and that dialogue and setting were well done. The perfect travel companion book, vacation read, an all round winner. *I received my copy from NetGaley.com in exchange for an honest review.
