You Will Be Peter: A Novel

Rate this book
The extraordinary story of a young fisherman who became the Founding Father of Christianity, the most influential and enduring institution in history.

2023 Paris Book Festival Winner · 2023 New England Book Festival Winner

He’s one of the most well-known figures in cultures around the world, etched into stained glass, painted in frescoes, even caricatured as standing at the gates of heaven with a long white beard and keys in hand. But long before he was portrayed as a venerated and untouchable figure, Peter was simply known as Simon, a twenty-something fisherman in a far-flung Jewish province controlled by the Roman Empire.

Loyal and faithful, impetuous and passionate, Simon’s quiet life is upended by the arrival of a man called Jesus of Nazareth, rumored to be the long-awaited Messiah who would rescue the Jewish people from oppression. When Simon meets Jesus, the mysterious man tells him, “You will be Peter,” a prophetic statement that would slowly transform Simon’s life. Eager to be free of the Romans, Simon joins Jesus in hopes that he can guard this leader who will, undoubtedly, build an army to challenge Rome. But as Simon waits for the army to form, he watches Jesus show a compassion for others Simon has never seen before. The miracles Jesus performs—healing the sick, feeding crowds of thousands—show not a display of military might, but of service and love.

Real, relatable and impeccably researched, You Will Be Peter draws on the four Gospel accounts to weave Simon Peter’s story into one seamless tapestry. Readers get a front-row seat to Simon’s three-year walk with Jesus, as Simon watches the Son of Man feed the hungry, raise the dead, upend the status quo and challenge the elite during one of world history’s most pivotal seasons.

In perhaps one of the greatest miracles, we can see ourselves in Simon, this ordinary man Jesus chose to accompany Him. Simon wasn’t well-educated, but he was faithful and headstrong. Though he could rush to judgment and use a foul word from time to time, he was the kind of friend who loved fiercely and was doggedly loyal—until he wasn’t. Although he failed, Simon wasn’t cast away from Jesus’ mission. In fact, his failures and subsequent redemption made him a more empathetic and capable rock upon whom the Church was built.

With storytelling artistry that transports readers to the first-century world, with the sights, sounds, and smells of that time, You Will Be Peter shares an age-old story told from a new set of it’s possible for one ordinary person, however unlikely, to change the world forever.

You Will Be Peter gives us a new point of view on a timeless story. The amazing collaboration between co-authors Steven Manchester & Jerry Lathan is a gift of vivid imagery that transports the reader into every setting with the characters and evokes relatable & touching emotions. I admire Jerry Lathan’s passion from 10 plus years of research and trips to locations that he translated into a complete and comprehensive book, and every time I read a book by Steven Manchester it is a life-changing experience.

This was an extremely interesting read! I was shocked at how much I was drawn into it. I don't normally read titles like this, not that I don't find religious titles entertaining, I just don't know how much of the Bible I believe. However, I believe Jesus was a real guy, but I think history might get altered as time goes on. This being said, this title was put together in a way that made me see how things could have gone down way back then. It also created some questions in my mind about this history. So, for this, it was definitely a worthwhile read, and as put together as this was, easily deserved a 5 star rating.

In the author’s introduction to this biographic novel of Peter readers learn:
“You Will Be Peter is written to be real and relatable, capturing the three-year ministry of Jesus
Christ through the eyes of Simon Peter.”

The story begins in Capernaum, Galilee where readers first meet Simon.

“Simon slowly opened his eyes. With a heavy sigh, he finally surrendered to a second night of
relentless insomnia. Taking care to be as quiet as humanly possible, he swung his feet onto the
cool, earthen floor and rose from his warm bed.”

This opening passage immediately draws readers into the intimate world of Simon Peter.
The tone of the story is set as personal. Simon Peter is seen as a real person, not as a distant saint,
far removed from us. The historical setting is established, yet somehow feels contemporary.
Readers walk alongside Peter, experiencing his wonder, confusion, and gradual understanding.
The three-year timeline allows for genuine character development, showing not just what Peter
became, but how and why his transformation occurred.

Simon and his best friend John fish together with Simon's brother Andrew and John's brother
James. The four men share an extraordinary bond that becomes the foundation for their later
discipleship.

The clearly shown dynamics of brotherhood and friendship make their eventual calling feel
natural. The bond between the four fishermen provides an emotional anchor throughout the
narrative, while their individual personalities emerge clearly through dialogue and
action.

“Andrew had been obsessed over the coming of the Messiah, vigilant for any sign of the Holy
One while learning everything he could.”

So when there’s word of a man who may be him, Andrew goes with John on a trip to investigate.

When they return, Andrew jubilantly tells Simon: “We have found the Messiah!”

After hearing that a few weeks later Jesus would be returning to the area, the four men go
together to see him.

“Simon was drawn right in, completely awestruck.
Standing face to face, Jesus cleared his throat, breaking Simon’s trance. Humbled, Simon waited.
‘You are Simon, son of Jonas,’ Jesus told him. ‘You will be called Peter | Caphas. |
Although he nodded – or thought he did -Simon thought, What?”

A powerful aspect of the story is its portrayal of Jesus's first encounter with Simon. It captures
Simon's confusion perfectly, with his internal response of "What?" reflecting the very human
tendency to question profound moments even as they unfold.

What sets this biographical novel apart is its commitment to showing Peter's full humanity.
Readers see Peter as a man, not a saint, with virtues and flaws. Showing his struggles with doubt,
impulsiveness, and his eventual failures and redemption allows readers to see themselves in
Peter's journey, understanding that faith often develops through struggle rather than through easy
belief.

Through Peter's eyes, readers experience the confusion of disciples who didn't always understand
their teacher's mission, the fear of those facing persecution, and the devastating sense of failure
that comes with betrayal. Yet the narrative also captures the profound love, hope, and eventual
courage that defined the early Christian community.

The authors honor both the biblical source material and the modern reader's need for authentic,
meaningful storytelling. The result is a book that illuminates not only the life of Peter, but also
the timeless questions about purpose, calling, and the possibility of redemption.

Perhaps most impressively, the novel manages to appeal to readers regardless of their religious beliefs.

The universal themes of friendship, purpose, doubt, and redemption transcend denominational
boundaries. The authors present the events with respect and historical grounding while allowing
readers to draw their own conclusions about their significance.

The gradual transformation from Simon the fisherman to Peter the rock becomes not just
believable, but inevitable.

It shows how one ordinary, unlikely person can change the world forever through faith and
dedication despite personal shortcomings.

First let me start out by saying that these authors did their research and transformed the Bible into modern times.

Simon Peter sacrificed much to follow Jesus. The 3 year journey I followed with them was miraculous in itself. The newer version gave me a better understanding of this aspect of the Bible.

I can only imagine how much belief and faith along with doubts it took to follow Jesus.

This story was amazing and I will reread it to feel its powerful messages again.

Kudos to the authors. You’ve both been blessed with the gift of the written word.

This took a bit to read - longer than I expected. Overall, it moved at a good pace, so I am not sure why it took me so long to read it (homework must have been heavy, I reckon). It is a solid interpretation of Peter's life based on what is revealed in the Gospels as well as the other sources the author lists at the end of his book.

The development of Peter's character was good. I never pictured Peter looking quite the way he is described in the book, but that is okay. I could still "see it" in terms of him looking that way based on the Gospels. In some respects, I felt like Peter's portrayal in this book is pretty accurate; other times, I felt like he was portrayed as being "dumber" than he necessarily was (or maybe that the other 11 were portrayed as being smarter than they actually were compared to Peter). It is easy to forget that Peter and the other 12 Apostles were human (well, maybe other than Judas), so the book does a nice job of "humanizing" Peter and making him even more relatable than he already is based on the Gospels and the Book of Acts. We see his humanness and mistakes all throughout the book; I sometimes felt like the author(s) went too far in terms of making Peter a goof or dupe, but I think they did a good job of "redeeming him" (or their description of Peter) by the end of the book (if that makes sense).

I have always felt like Peter was the oldest of the disciples, so I felt like maybe Andrew should have been younger than Peter as opposed to being older, primarily because Peter is the only disciple who is married during Jesus' ministry (based on Jesus healing Peter's mother-in-law as well as only Jesus and Peter having to pay the temple tax, which apparently none of the other 11 had to do). I have never thought about how the taxes and bills were paid while Peter was away; perhaps his mother-in-law was wealthy as well? Or he had other people running his fishing business for him?

In any case, I would say that John had some development as a character, as did Andrew and James, John's brother. Peter's wife was developed a bit as a character, too, so that was cool. I think Jesus was even "developed as a character" because we get to see a bit more of the "human side" of him without taking away from His being divine or sinless - so maybe describing some of the events in more "human terms" then how the Gospels describe them? The Gospels each have their own focus in terms of Jesus' ministry, so portraying Him as "human" was not high on their list so to speak.

I liked how they gave Mary Magdalene time to share her perspective on the events during the Crucifixion and Resurrection.

This is kind of a nit to pick, but

I felt the authors did a good job with Peter and his struggles as well the joys and "triumphs" when he is given momentary insight the other Apostles do not have. We can see through Peter how we might have handled the various situations and moments as Peter handled them; we can try and put ourselves into his sandals and wonder what it would have been like to have been exposed to some of these experiences as they were happening versus our reading about it in the Gospels while sitting in the safety of our rooms. Speaking of experiences: Peter walking on water.

I do like how the authors show all of Peter's failures and triumphs, all of his experiences, were molding him and shaping him into the man he needed to become in order to lead the Church, to be the Rock upon which Jesus would build His church. It is not something I necessarily think about when I read the Gospels, but that is a good example for all of us today - that we are constantly being molded by God every moment in preparation of something that will happen in the future.

I have already said far more than I thought I would. I am torn - I would rate it 3.5 stars, max, but feel like 3 stars is too low while 4 stars is too high. I will say 3.5 rounded up, just to be generous, although I feel like 3 stars might be more accurate. Overall, it was a good book, and I am glad that I read it.

In You Will Be Peter, authors Jerry Lathan and Steven Manchester craft a remarkable narrative that revisits the life of one of history’s most iconic figures, Simon Peter. Often depicted in religious art as the esteemed apostle with keys in hand, Peter’s origins as an ordinary fisherman are seldom explored in depth.

This story delves into the transformative journey of Simon Peter as he encounters Jesus of Nazareth, illustrating how an uneducated man’s faith and loyalty can lead to a monumental impact on the world. At the story’s outset, we meet Simon, a young fisherman living under the overbearing rule of the Roman Empire. His life is one of simplicity and routine, until the arrival of Jesus, a man whose reputation as the Messiah incites hope among the Jewish people. The moment Simon meets Jesus, his life is irrevocably altered when he hears the words, “You will be Peter.” In this prophetic declaration lies the promise of transformation—not only of his name but also of his identity and purpose. Here, Lathan and Manchester effectively set the stage for a profound exploration of faith, loyalty, and the potential for change in every individual.

As Simon embarks on his journey with Jesus, he initially envisions a rebellion against their Roman oppressors. The expectation of military might is soon overshadowed by the reality of Jesus’ teachings and actions, which emphasize compassion, service, and love over violence and dominance. Through miraculous acts, such as healing the sick and feeding the hungry, Jesus reveals a different kind of strength—one rooted in humility and selflessness. This evolution of Simon’s understanding is pivotal; it illustrates how personal growth often occurs through witnessing the exemplary qualities of others. The authors adeptly capture Simon’s internal conflict as he grapples with his hopes for a warrior Messiah and the reality of Jesus’ mission. One of the most compelling aspects of You Will Be Peter is its portrayal of Simon as a flawed yet relatable character. He is not depicted as a paragon of virtue but rather as a passionate individual who occasionally falters. His impetuous nature leads him to make hasty judgments, and he experiences moments of failure—most notably when he denies knowing Jesus during the latter’s trial. These human shortcomings resonate with readers, reminding us that imperfection is part of the human experience. However, what truly sets Simon apart is his capacity for redemption.

The story reveals that failure does not equate to disqualification from purpose; rather, it can become a catalyst for growth and deeper empathy. This theme of redemption is integral to the narrative and underscores the belief that everyone, regardless of their past, can contribute meaningfully to the greater good. The authors also excel in their vivid storytelling, transporting readers to the first-century world filled with sensory details—the sights, sounds, and smells of the time. This immersive approach allows readers to experience the historical context that shaped Simon Peter’s journey. It emphasizes the urgency and significance of Jesus’ mission during a pivotal moment in history. By placing Simon at the forefront of this narrative, Lathan and Manchester invite readers to see themselves in this ordinary man—their struggles, their hopes, and their potential for change.

Ultimately, You Will Be Peter serves as a powerful reminder that even the most unlikely individuals can alter the course of history. Simon Peter’s transformation from a humble fisherman to the foundational rock of the Church illustrates that greatness is often born out of everyday experiences, faith, and the willingness to embrace one’s calling, even amidst uncertainty. This narrative not only reexamines the life of a biblical figure but also challenges readers to reflect on their journeys, encouraging them to embrace their imperfections and recognize the potential for greatness within themselves. Through Simon’s story, we learn that the path to making a difference in the world begins with a single step of faith.

You Will Be Peter by Jerry Lathan with Steven Manchester was one of the most profound works I have ever read except for the Bible. I had a few interruptions while in the reading process. Even considering that it took me a long time to read it. I could not read this as a novel. For me, this book required thinking and pondering what it meant to me and my life. It was literally an act of worship.

One thing I want to mention is that this book was ten years in research before the writing began. That is a lot of research. I think that is the main reason I sat up and listened to what God my father and Jesus my savior was trying to tell me in this beautifully written book. I took this opportunity to learn and absorb things that I didn’t know or that I had forgotten over the years. Let me tell you, I learned a lot about the time period when Jesus walked the earth with his disciples.

This is told through the eyes of the eyes of Simon. Jesus told him “You Will Be Peter”. He was the first Apostle. He was the leader of the apostles, protector of Jesus and had the principal role of building Christ’s church. It was interesting to know that Simon Peter was just like you and me. He had questions, doubts and worries just like you and me. I also wondered if I were his wife if I would have been as understanding of his long absences with the other disciples and Jesus. His wife was a prime example of supporting your husband without question.

Of course, I would recommend everyone read this book, but I realize that it is not a book that everyone will want to read. It is perfect for information if that is what you are looking for. Personally, it made me think of my faith and how strong it is, what changes I need to make in my own walk with Jesus and just how strong I am as a person. I highly recommend this book. I think it has something for everyone to take away. It would be a perfect addition to your nightstand. Until next time…Happy Reading!

Finely woven historical biographical novel of the first leader of the Christian church.

You Will Be Peter is a new historical biographical novel by Jerry Lathan with Steven Manchester about the life and legacy of Simon bar Jonas, the man who history and the world would come to know as St. Peter. The authors breathe life into renowned historical figures, the descriptions of life at that time, the fabled settings and events of Jesus's earthly ministry, and the immediate aftermath, creating a vibrant and rich tale that had me engaged and emotionally connected from start to finish. Readers who are well familiar with the events will be just as mesmerized by the story as those who are not.

The authors begin by establishing Simon's humble background, including providing a much-needed picture of the young wife he will leave behind over and over again in order to follow the Messiah. The story unfolds from multiple points of view, and readers will gain an understanding of Simon's hopes and dreams as a happy young man, making a living as a fisherman from the Sea of Galilee alongside his brother Andrew and best friends, John and James, and later, as he becomes a disciple of Christ and a confidante.

I appreciated how well the events he witnessed and that were recorded in source documents, such as the Bible, are presented in an understandable, chronological order so that their spatial relationships made much better sense. Also, the authors do a great job distinguishing the major figures who had similar soundings or identical names at times. The ins and outs of daily life were interesting, and the disciples' faithful reliance on Jesus to provide for their needs, and did, was told in such a matter-of-fact and easy-to-see manner. The miracles happen throughout the story, both before and after Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, and as Peter begins his own ministry. There is suspense and heartbreak along the way, and it evokes a lot of emotion in the reading.

I recommend YOU WILL BE PETER to readers of biblical fiction, historical fiction, or historical biographical novels, especially those interested in the lives of Christ, Peter, and the disciples and the founding of Christianity.

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving an Advanced Review Copy from the author through Partners in Crime Virtual Book Tours.

This novel is a deep exploration of the biblical disciple of Jesus, Simon, who Jesus renamed Peter. Using the gospels as a framework and imagining additional events and dialogue, Latham and Manchester take readers through an emotional journey of Peter being chosen by Jesus, Peter feeling he needed to protect Jesus, and then his betrayal. It is quite an emotional journey giving readers a good idea of what Peter thought, especially at Jesus' crucifixion.

We see how a rough fisherman became an essential aspect of the early church. We really get a sense of his personality, outspoken, opinionated and quick to take action. We see how Peter struggled when Jesus was not the militant savior he had expected. Peter had been the number one disciple wanting armed rebellion. We are taken through his confusion and despair until, at the very end, he understood his new mission.

There is great description of the land, clothing, etc. It is very interesting to see the familiar stories from the gospels put in context. It really brings the biblical gospel accounts to life. I like the maps included, helping to visualize the travel Jesus and his disciples did.

There are just a couple of odd aspects to this novel. One was that a couple of times Jesus speaks in KJV English (e.g. “thou shalt” in the beatitude speech) while the rest of his words are contemporary English. There is also the statement that a centurion carried an exhausted Jesus the last few yards to the cross. (311) This is not in the Bible and may be a legend Latham has added. Regarding the writing style, the narrative is well crafted and easily read. There is a pet peeve I have however, of a character having a dream and we readers are not notified by italics or some other way. It was done several times in this novel.

I recommend this novel to get a real sense of the struggle Simon Peter experienced as he went from being one who caught fish to being a fisher of men. Just remember this is fiction and there might be a few liberties taken in the process.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Partners in Crime Book Tours. My comments are an independent and honest review.

You Will Be Peter by Jerry Lathan brings readers into the world of one of the most well-known historical figures from the Gospels and the Book of Acts. With assistance from co-author Steven Manchester, the story of Simon Peter comes to life.

Traveling through the three years of the ministry of Jesus, this novel opens in Capernaum, Galilee, with Simon walking to the docks for a day of work. The story quickly moves to the baptism of Jesus, and the calling of Simon, who Jesus names Peter. The reader will witness Peter in all his humanness, his impulsiveness, his doubts, his desire to be considered important, and his deep faith that Jesus is the Messiah. You Will Be Peter brings the Gospels and the early church to life, making the apostles more relatable than they might seem in a nonfiction setting.

I found it interesting that so many points of view appeared throughout the novel. When it focused on events from Peter's point of view, I felt more connected to him. The others, except perhaps Jesus's, seemed unnecessary.

You Will Be Peter is well-researched, engaging, and draws the reader into the life of its historical characters. If you are looking for a novel that makes you feel like you were right there during the ministry of Jesus, this is a great choice.

You Will Be Peter by Jerry Lathan is like the movie, The Passion, giving us, readers, a real glimpse into Peter. Peter is one the best examples of how easy it is for humans to give up when trouble comes knocking. Especially, when asked if he knew Jesus and denied knowing him three times. Fear of dying with Jesus kept Peter in denial and betrayal. Yet, he still greatly loved and mourned Jesus as his leader. I love how this book puts all of Simon's life together in a way that readers can follow is journey from the beginning to end. This book primarily focuses on Simon who becomes Peter. Peter is elected as the rock of the church for Jesus's followers. "On this rock you will build my church." Jerry Lathan writes the book flawlessly making the words come to life. The words turn into images as we follow from scenes to scene. We can almost picture, sense, and feel what Peter did back then. You Will Be Peter is one Christian fiction novel, I highly recommend to read during this Christmas season. It inspires, motivates, and uplifts us to a new level.

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

This is a very interesting read about Simon from the bible. If you are a Christian and know the bible you will know this book. There is a lot of research that the authors have done with this book. From the very first page we get to see a well-drawn map that shows us the way of Simon's meeting Jesus and his life after he met Jesus in the land of Galilee and the surrounding areas of Judea and others. I love how the author made the story engaging and more of a fictional read about the 'character' of Simon in this book.
I think the authors did a great job with adding visual imagery into this novel and I was engrossed in the story the whole time. This story follows Simon on the 3-year journey until Jesus's death and even many years after when Simon is now known as Peter. Simon does go through some doubt about Jesus in this book as some of the apostles did in the bible and I personally fell that adds more to the story as you need to keep reading Simon/Peter's story. It is a well written Christian Historical fiction.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jerry You Will Be Peter swept me up from the first chapter and didn’t let go. Your writing is honest, raw, and deeply human. You have a gift for capturing pain, redemption, and hope in a way that feels so real like you reached across the page and pulled me into the character’s soul.

What struck me most was how you didn’t shy away from life’s tough truths: the grief, the doubt, the desperation but even in that darkness, you weaved a thread of hope that never felt forced. The journey of your characters is messy, painful, but full of courage and faith. That emotional truth is rare, and it had me turning pages even through tears.

Your prose doesn’t just tell a story it invites you to feel, question, and believe. You Will Be Peter isn’t just a book I read; it’s a story I lived. Thank you for writing with such honesty and heart. I’ll be recommending this to everyone I know who wants a story that hurts and heals sometimes both at once.

You Will Be Peter by Jerry Lathan & Steven Manchester is a beautiful, well-written account of an ancient story written for modern times, and it is done perfectly.

The authors took me back in time, flawlessly with descriptive scenes, brilliant dialogue, and emotions that touched my heart and at times had me wiping away a few tears. I was standing right there next to Simon Peter, pulled in by the writers’ words when he first met Jesus on the banks of the River Jordon, a young man in his twenties—and I never left throughout the three-year journey that the story takes us.

You Will Be Peter is a masterpiece of self-discovery, redemption, courage, and sacrifice. It is a must-read for all generations that will stay with you long after you have read it. You will come to adore and know Simon Peter just like I did.

I am familiar with the stories of Jesus and his disciples with their journeys taken to share and spread God’s word. You Will Be Peter is that story but with this telling, I felt like I was walking along their sides. Simon Peter has his doubts about the way Jesus’ was living his life at time but with each doubt came the proof that Jesus’ word is the way of the Lord.

Simon Peter, the chosen disciple, lives a simple fisherman life until Jesus comes through and asks him to follow him. Simon did question Jesus as he tried to follow the example set but each doubt was proven as true as time went on. Reading this I realized that questions authority is okay but staying true to what you know is even more important.

I am giving this book 4 stars although I have issues with the writing. (I think about 1/8 of the book could have be cut out, especially the many descriptions of the flowers and the roads traveled. I think the authors need to give some credit to the reader that they do not need to be told everything and probably can figure out some things for themselves, for example - being told several times that sandals gets worn out and feet are tire after walking for miles.) I am trying to ignore the things I do not like and focus on the things I did like.

I love the concept of the book. To do the immense research to be able to see the world through the eyes of an apostle is amazing to me. To write a book so that readers can be a part of the experience is a blessing to all who read this book.

This was the perfect book to read around Easter. I loved that it was told in a story format, rather than in verse. I felt like I was in the time of Jesus. I was reminded of his miracles and the disciples that were with him. It was interesting to read how Jesus lived, other than what is in the Bible. How he got from place to place and who he saw along the way. However, this book is also about faith and how Peter believed in Jesus and changed his name. As a catholic, I knew how the book was going to end. I did not expect to enjoy the journey so much. There were times when I was reminded of certain scriptures. This is definitely a book to keep by my Bible. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy, all opinions are my own.

This book is like a real-life journey with Jesus as he begins teaching his disciples through example. The inner twelve’s journeys with Jesus were focused upon, with Simon Peter evolving from a strong physical protector of Jesus to the wise counselor of the early Christian church. In the story, Simon Peter’s growth and understanding of Jesus’ teachings is shown, sometimes with the human inadequacy of true understanding. As Lathan clearly states, Peter was an “Everyman” that had flaws and made mistakes but kept getting back up, asking for God’s forgiveness, and being a living model for Jesus Christ.

Life of a fisherman named Simon was establish Christian faith new name Peter. Simon's three year walk with Jesus, led him to watch the son of man feed the hungry and raise the dead. Simon wasn't well educated but he was faithful. Simon first met Jesus on the banks of the River Jordon who was in his twenties. Simon failed but he wasn't cast away from Jesus' mission. This book allows you to see Christ from the disciples .

This is a very good book that follows parts of the Gospel, weaving a partially fictional story about an important member of Jesus' following. But the gospels each tell a piece of Simon/Peter's story and were also fictional to some extent. They were based on the story's the writers were told decades later. The great part of this book is that it provides the reader with a vivid perception of who Peter might have been.

A Magnificent Journey With Petrr

I would recommend this book to all believers as well as unbelievers. It will stir your heart in a way it has never been it before. If you already know the Lord you will grow closer to Him, and if you don't know Him by the end of the book you will. It stirred my heart and brought me to tears. It makes you feel like your right there with Peter on his magnificent journey with our Lord.

Excellent! The transformation of Simon to Peter is a great story told in a way that we can relate to and puts the reader right beside Simon and Jesus. Very relatable as the characters travel together, laugh and bond. The chapters of the wedding (disciples meeting Mary) and the crucifixion (being told to Simon who ran away) are superb.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I've read the same stories in the Bible many times but the authors added some personality to the apostles and I enjoyed getting to know them and what it must have been like to travel with and befriend Jesus; really great book!

Both powerful in its telling and powerful in how it was retold, YOU WILL BE PETER by Steven Manchester and Jerry Lathan is an extraordinary story of a young fisherman called into service by Jesus.

Feel as if you were walking the same walk as the characters, understand the doubts and feelings of inadequacy of the simple man who would become the Father of Christianity and lay the foundation for all of time. Become a witness to the doubts, strengths and sacrifices made by men trusting in a truth they can only feel from within.

These authors have done an incredible job of bringing this story to life and emotionally attaching the reader to each page. Whether you have Faith or not, Simon Peter’s story is one you will not forget.
