The books are getting shorter and shorter. Pair that with the low quality editing and less cohesive writing and I'm left disappointed.
The wrong character names are used many times, as well as the wrong clan names. There is lack of continuity with the previous books in regards to the naming of power levels and other minor things that all add up and make it clear that this was highly rushed and that there was filler patched in. This whole Lifeng arc is clearly something that wasn't planned at all, for example.
Really? This super savvy hacker girl agreed to go play an extremely visible and public role at an underground fight club where she will be seen by tons of people, when she's secretly in hiding from a her family that is a major player in the underground?
I really enjoy this story so I'm hoping the laziness won't continue in later books...
Again just as I suspected bk5 is a great addition to this fun series... and I'm addicted. The only problem is they're way too short! War by the clans seems to be the theme of these books and each clan now is stronger than the last. But Max and the rest of his clan members haven't let grass grow and they're all leveling up quickly, by clearing out foci, killing all the monsters, creating all kinds of chimeras along the way from monster parts. The book is just fun, I say. So go grab the books!!!
Here's a quote after my own heart:
"...and I inhaled the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee with pleasure. It never gets old. In any uncertain situation, drink coffee. That could well be my motto."
I received a review copy of this book. Ok, well, we get to see the main character's trainees doing some real work now, so that's a plus. A bit over excited, but they can hold their own for the most part, so good for them now. Of course, we get to see some new enemies we didn't even know existed (that seems to be par for the course), and we also get to see at the very end of the book some promising foreshadowing for the next book. That made me really interested to see what comes next. So, in short, if you've liked this series so far, you shouldn't be disappointed by this installment in the series.
I'm working my way through my stack of ARCs at the moment and this is the new one I just finished. The story is starting to pick up steam. The MC has managed to find some survivors of one of his cadet branches, well descendents of survivors anyway. So the clan keeps growing. I sent in a small list of corrections that should be fixed before publishing. Just remember that if you find one that we missed and you report it they will fix it. Happy Reading!
9/10 Because I feel like we made progress in moving the story forward.
So Max Richter is now not only delving in the South Fort. He has gotten control and is supplying his factories with all they can catch outside the Fort. At the same time they are solidifying their holdings and they are finding much more than monsters in the South. The Richter clan is now more than Max and Olga. They have attracted more fighters that are now happy living in the clan. I love this series and its a lot of fun.
I really want to know how one can have an organic wheel. That spins but is connected to the body... how is it getting nutrients (energy) from the body?
Wow. What a way to end the book (on a cliffhanger). We know the bad guys will be wiped out in chapter one, turned into recourses, then the protag will go back to rebuilding his house (the noble one).
The plot progresses. The secret behind the necromancer orphans gets revealed, the Richter clan grows, there are new clan wars and even first clashes with a major clan.
I was only sad that the book wasn't longer and i havve to wait for the next one..
I think every reader needs to start doing this to force authors to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series.
Keeps your attention. Keeps moving at a steady pace, ensuring it keeps your attention. The storyline keeps evolving. I'm looking forward to the next two books..
Just far to many errors and overall sloppy execution compared to before, not to say the earlier books didn't also have issues but his one shows clear decline.
There is also absurdly illogical plot issues with a side character in this part that just makes no sense.
More adventures and it picks up directly from the cliffhang on the last entry. The downside is that it ends on another cliffhanger right before an event.
we get a lot more lore and see a lot more progress from the crew.
Good writing in general, but charcters do not ever have any challenges. all of them just seem to breeze through every envounter. and the books leave off at forced cliffhangers, but feels like it's in the middle of the book instead.
I’m not sure why I keep reading these books, there are so many inconsistencies and problems it is impossible to ignore them, however they are ‘ripping yarns’ and I find it quite difficult to put the books down.
This was a great continuation of the story! I love seeing further intrigue and all the world building. It ends on a bang so book 6 should start with some fireworks!
