🧙♀️✨ Ever have one of those days where a little magic seems like the perfect solution until it makes everything worse?
These fun-filled middle grade adventures are packed with magic, friendship, school drama, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments that make Heidi Heckelbeck such a lovable character.
In Freakiest Trip Ever!, Heidi finds herself facing a talented new rival at Broomsfield Academy. What starts as a friendly competition quickly spirals into a magical adventure full of surprises. I loved the museum field trip setting and the way the story balanced humor, teamwork, and lessons about jealousy and self-confidence. Watching Heidi learn that being the best isn't always what matters most made for a fun and meaningful read.
Worst Wish Ever! delivers another magical mishap when Heidi tries to solve a very relatable problem: being in two places at once. Between a talent show, a big test, and a crush, her solution seems simple until the magic creates even more chaos. I found myself smiling at Heidi's determination, even when her plans went spectacularly wrong. The story is full of humor while also highlighting the importance of making thoughtful choices and believing in yourself.
What I enjoyed most about both books was how accessible and entertaining they are for young readers. The magical adventures are exciting, but the real heart of the stories comes from Heidi's friendships, challenges, and growth along the way. Freakiest Trip Ever! is the sixth book in the wonderful Middle School and Other Disasters series by Wanda Coven & @anna_abramskaya.
The main character, Heidi Heckelbeck, has always been the most talented student witch at Broomsfield Academy. But now there is a new student who intends to take that role. Heidi is jealous, and feels like she is losing her friends to the new girl. Unfortunately as the two compete they don't always act with care, and on a trip to the museum they put everyone in danger!
Both girls must learn responsibility, kindness and acceptance.
The characters are fun, and I think kids in 3rd through 6th grade would enjoy these books. (Heidi Hecklebeck is also the main character of her own series aimed at early chapter book readers.)

HAHA! When we were at the Field Museum in front of Sue the T. rex dinosaur skeleton and I thought, what would I do if Sue moved, right when the guide said we had no chance of escape. Jodi, the new Canadian student, feels like she has to compete with Heidi for the best place and ends up bringing the T. rex to life. That's not all... she can read minds like Heidi too, and they don't get along at all until their rivalry goes too far. They both acted wrong, and I am glad to see them patch things up.
Did you know Heidi has a younger brother, Henry Heckelbeck? I just read his chapter book recently and put one and one together.
I love this series of Middle School and Other Disasters for the humor, friendship, fun stories, relatable middle school episodes, age-appropriate stresses, and the illustrations are the best. It's very dynamic in the font design as well.

This was a cute book :) Years ago I read the first Heidi Hecklebeck book made for young elementary school readers and I thought it was really cute, as some years pass, I found 2 more books about her and read them also. Recently at the library I found this book and didn't know that they had a middle school book about her, of course I had to check it out :) I'm really glad that I did ♥

The middle school adventures continue with a new girl joining their class. Jodi was the top witch at her old school and feels threatened by Heidi. Heidi also feels rattled by a witch with the same abilities. Readers see Jodi bully Heidi and Heidi take it and get stressed. Both amusing and serious points come out as Coven continues to show how Heidi and her friends mature and find their way.
