Resting Warrior Ranch #4

Mysterium in Montana

Rate this book

Just didn't feel their chemistry... Where is the real suspense, the love? Too insta for me... The story was a little bit boring too... I don't know... The first two books were so, so good... But, ok... The cover is still beautiful... And I can't wait for Jude and Lena's story. It's the next book. Finally! Be better, please! 🤞🙏🤞

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
POV: Dual 1st Person
M/F
Stand Alone? This couple’s story is complete but due to character and storyline crossover it is recommended to read the books in order.

Is it just me, or are the Resting Warrior Ranch men getting better with each book? The first book made me swoon and each book after has done nothing but get better than the last. This phenomenal series has gripped me with such fierceness that I am not only signing up for every arc but adding each paperback to my collection as it is released, and recommending the books to anyone who will listen. Noah’s story is no different. The story started off right away, the action and mystery kept going the whole book, the steam was hot, the story was captivating and I am hoping Brandon gets his own story later!

Highly recommend this read to anyone and everyone who loves a good protector romance!

Happy Reading my Friends!

MONTANA MYSTERY is the fourth instalment in the contemporary, adult RESTING WARRIOR RANCH erotic, romantic suspense series co-authored by Josie Jade and Janie Crouch-a spin off from Janie Crouch’s Zodiac Tactical series. This is former US Navy SEAL Noah Scott and professional house sitter Kate Tillbeck’s story line. MONTANA MYSTERY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Noah and Kate) MONTANA MYSTERY follows in the aftermath of the attack against Kate Tillbeck’s brother Brandon. Finding a name in her brother’s belongings, Kate heads to the Resting Warrior Ranch where she comes face to face with former Navy SEAL Noah Scott. Weeks earlier Brandon Tillbeck left Resting Warrior Ranch, never to be heard from again until a call from the hospital had Kate wondering where everything went wrong. Believing Noah Scott and the other former SEALs were the cause of her brother’s problem Kate is both surprised and frightened to discover that her brother’s problems were much deeper and darker than she could have ever imagined. As Noah and Kate begin an investigation into the who, how and why, Kate finds herself a pawn in a dangerous game. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Kate and Noah, and the potential fall-out as our couple are targeted in the name of revenge, power and control.

The relationship between Noah and Kate begins when Kate appears at the Resting Warrior Ranch in an effort to uncover the truth behind her brother’s injuries. Kate is unaware of her brother’s troubles but finds herself falling for a man who has troubles of his own. Noah Scott struggles with PTSD, and as a partner at the Resting Warrior Ranch, he knows the potential fall-out of going untreated. Falling for Kate means revealing the horrors of his past, horrors that often continue to control our story line hero. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate.

We are reintroduced to Kate’s brother Brandon Tillbeck, as well as most of the previous story line couples including Liam, Jude, Daniel and Lucas. The requisite evil is still on the loose

MONTANA MYSTERY is a story of power and control, vengeance and betrayal, family and friendships, relationship and love. The character driven premise is intriguing and captivating; the romance is seductive and provocative; the characters are energetic, determined and strong but Kate is often a little TSTL (too stupid to live), placing herself in the direct line of fire.

What more is there to write that I didn't already said about this series? Once again I was sucked into the story and was turning the pages so fast to see what happens next.

Kate and Noah's meet cute is not so cute. When she comes to the ranch, she is grasping with what has happened to her brother and is looking for someone to blame. Noah can't help but feel the pull towards her. Every instinct is screaming at him to help her. And as we are used to in this series, bad guys are not resting. Soon the whole gang is back again saving the day.

Overall this story was filled with obstacles that our MCs had to overcome together in order to be able to heal and love together.

I really liked Kate and understand her knee jerk reaction of storming the ranch demanding answers of what happened to her brother. Of course no one at the ranch was involved in that, but it ended up being the right place for Kate. She was able to have someone listen to her and what was wrong and then get back up when things started to go more wrong.

At times it seemed like Noah and the guys were going to beat the bad guys, get them at their own game. Instead they were one step ahead, even at the end, they got away, but at least Kate and her brother seem safe now.

You know this bad guy isn't going to go away, I'm sure he will show up in future books.

I absolutely loved this book and devoured it in a day. Be prepared to cry and be gutted over this book, the plot is pretty crazy. The bad guys are really bad, especially the top guy. Loved how quickly Kate and Noah fall for each other, those first kisses sure were hot! Loved how the Resting Warriors were a family and how hard they worked together to rescue Kate. I even had some tears in the epilogue, it’s very heartwarming. Loved that they got their happy ever after. I can’t wait to read more in this series, each book seems to get better. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I highly recommend this book. I’ll definitely be reading it soon, it’s so good.

Another fantastic Resting Warriors Ranch book that hooked me from the first page and kept me turning the pages long into the night.

Kate is an independent woman who owns a successful business. She has a younger brother, Brandon, who returned from his time in the military suffering from PTSD. She's done her best to help him, but he resists her efforts. As the story opens, she receives a call from the hospital that Brandon is there, badly beaten and covered in dog bites. While looking through Brandon's clothing to find a clue about who did this to him, she finds a piece of paper with Noah's name and number. She is certain that Noah is responsible for Brandon's condition, so she rushes off to confront him.

Noah and his SEAL buddies started the RWR as a place for them to heal from their wartime experiences. They've expanded the ranch and opened it up to help others who need healing. Noah, who spent two months as a captive, finds the most peace while working with the animals on the ranch. They train everything from dogs to horses to alpacas to be service animals. For him, the darkness of his memories is never far away. Noah is stunned when Kate arrives and accuses him of being behind Brandon's injuries. He remembers Brandon, who came to the ranch but stayed only a few days before leaving. Though he has no idea what Brandon was involved in, he promises Kate he will look into it.

I liked watching the relationship between Noah and Kate develop. The sparks of attraction were there from the moment they met, despite the confrontational attitude. Noah couldn't imagine NOT helping her, but his initial investigation turned up nothing other than a possible link to dogfighting. Kate was embarrassed by her accusations, so when Noah came to fill her in, she thanked him but let him off the hook rather abruptly. But when she returned to her apartment that night, she found it had been broken into and trashed. She also narrowly missed being caught by the perpetrators. The first person she thought of was Noah, so she packed a bag and drove to the ranch. Noah's protective instincts were aroused, and he promised to help and keep her safe.

As they worked together to get to the bottom of what happened to Brandon, their attraction grew stronger. Noah tries to keep Kate at an emotional distance, reluctant to expose her to his issues. Thanks to her experiences with Brandon, Kate isn't scared off by exposure to Noah's episodes. I loved how she stuck by him, giving him warmth and support when needed. The scenes after the fight he took on and later the "family" dinner showed her strength and understanding. Their chemistry is fantastic, but Noah stubbornly resists admitting his growing feelings for Kate. I loved how the other guys saw the truth long before he acknowledged it and teased him about it. Kate knows how she feels but refuses to push Noah into something he isn't ready for. It isn't until he nearly loses her that Noah can admit his feelings. The emotional ending had me crying and laughing as they looked to their future together.

The suspense of the story was terrific. I could feel Kate's fear during the apartment break-in and her anger as she learned what led to Brandon's injuries. The men of the RWR's anger as they discovered what was happening near their ranch and their determination to stop it was evident in their actions. Noah's fear for her as Kate purposely put herself in danger led him into a situation that had me glued to the pages as it played out. I could feel the frustration as their efforts to stop the bad guys were constantly thwarted. The tension was incredible as I waited for the bad guys to resurface. When they did, Kate's life was in extreme danger. I loved seeing her keep her head and hold on to her faith that Noah would save her. I was on the edge of my seat, watching Noah and the others race to find her. The final confrontation was heart-poundingly intense with an excellent resolution. A couple of threads are left hanging, so I suspect they will turn up in a later book.

I loved seeing more of the couples from the previous books, as well as the unmatched men. With every book, we learn more about each of these incredible characters. I love the camaraderie, as well as the support these men give each other. With shared experiences, they know when someone needs sympathy or a kick in the pants. But as much as I love the RWR guys, in this book, my favorite secondary characters were the kittens, Garfield and Salem (loved the names!). They were adorable, and I loved how sweet Noah was with them - tough SEAL with a marshmallow heart!

I can't wait to see what's next for these incredible warriors.

Kate comes to the Resting Warrior Ranch to confront Noah after her brother is brutally beaten.

“So,” Liam continued. “Are we getting a new member of the family?” “I’ve known her for a grand total of thirty minutes.

Noah feels like he’s not the man he was after what happened to him. He is having a hard time with PSTD.

He knows Kate needs help so he offers to help her.

The sun seemed brighter today. Maybe that was insane to say, but it felt that way. After waking up with Kate—even with our brief interruption—the world seemed to sparkle. I was in so much trouble.

These warrior’s have each other’s back and those they consider there’s. An underground fighting ring and deadly organization.

This series is so good and I can’t get enough. Oh boy we finally get Jude and Lena’s story next. I’m so excited!!

This book was another addition to the Resting Warrior Ranch series. This book was sweet and also sad.
There are triggers for human trafficking, animal cruelty, dog fighting and violence.

This story is about Noah Scott who was in the military. He spent two months in an enemy prison camp and made it out alive. Some of his team didn’t. He has physical scars on his body and he is dealing with PTSD. He works with the animals at the Resting Warrior Ranch. He also has fostered kittens. He ends up meeting a woman named Kate Tilbeck. She is neck deep in danger because her brother who is in the hospital owes people some money. Noah knows that he can’t stand by and do nothing. The threat centers around a dog fighting ring and some of the pups he trained might be involved. Noah is also trying to deal with survivor’s guilt in which he was able to return home. With Kate he was able to fight his demons and find love.

Wow. That was a non-stop dramatic tour de force that has left me completely speechless. It started from the opening scene that sucked me in and rolled over me in a cascade of vivid images and tense action. And continued throughout the whole book until it spat me out, spent and panting, but oh so satisfied, at the end. The connection between Noah and Kate fairly crackles from the page. I hung on their every word, waiting for them to finally give in. The mystery they’re chasing still has me caught in its grasp, because it seems to be reaching out beyond this book to possibly become a plot thread in stories yet to come. I loved this so very much. I adored the ending, but I kind of hate that it’s over already. I can’t wait until we get to come back to Resting Warrior Ranch for the next instalment.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

Another Great Resting Warrior Ranch Story!!

Kate is called to the ER where her brother lays near death. The only clue is a piece of paper with a name and a number on it. It happens to be Noah Scott. By the time Kate arrives at Resting Warrior Ranch she is full of anger and outrage. Noah, who has his own struggles is out communing with the alpacas. Noah hasn’t seen her brother Brandon for months, but can tell Kate needs help.

His partners tease him as “the last time a woman stumbled into the lodge in trouble, she moved in and never let”. Thus begins the search for the underground ring which is threatening Brandon and Kate in particular, and the region in general. As danger intrudes even closer, Noah’s protective instincts come into full play. A realistic portrayal of danger, power and building romance between these characters – a wonderful read.

Montana Mystery is beautifully written with pulse pounding suspense and action along with a sensitive romance. Noah and Kate are exquisite characters.
Way too much adrenaline and steam for me, though.

What an absolutely wonderful read. Noah and Kate’s story keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. It’s fast paced with lots of action and romance in each chapter to make you have to keep reading to find out how the mess they find themselves in will turn out. Just a great next addition to the already great series!

Good read. More like a typical suspense romance with a plot that had nothing to do with the ranch. Extra side of danger

I have been enjoying all the books in the series. Each time I think I have found my favourite, which only lasts until I read the next one.

The characters are well written, feel like old friends, and have interesting story arcs.

The setting is what I know and love about the Ranch.

The plot is engaging and interesting.

As you can tell from my 5 stars I really enjoyed this one. Inam looking forward to more.

Happy Reading!

This one wavered between a 2 and 3 star review for me. Ultimately, I had to go for the lower rating given that my motivation in finishing this book was so that it could be done and I could move to the next one.

I love me a good romantic suspense. I recognize that in many, the romance will not be the main focus. I love that. I appreciate that. But for this one, I felt no chemistry, and it truly did feel like Noah and Kate were thrown together just because we needed Noah paired with someone. I will admit, some of my issues may be because I'm not usually a fan of a strangers to lovers by 40%; I'm personally more of a slow-burn friends to lovers girlie myself. But I think there's more here for me.

They didn't really know anything about each other outside of the current traumatic events and what needed to be explained because PTSD episodes were witnessed. And I know they couldn't have known each other because we didn't really know them. (Again, outside of what was currently happening to them, and a few details of past trauma)

In previous books, I felt like I got a good sense of who the characters were. I felt like I knew them and what made them tick, what they had experienced, and how that affected them, and I knew what was drawing them together (outside of shared trauma). I don't know any of that with Noah and Kate.

I know that Kate has a brother with PTSD from the war as her only family, she doesn't have many friends (if any), and she put dating on the back burner. I know that Noah experienced some pretty traumatic events alongside his teammate Jude, has struggled with that and continues to, love animals and relies heavily on them for comfort, and has a sense of duty and compassion. Oh, and also, something about these two makes them fall madly in love with each other.

The romance just didn't sell for me, and for a ROMANTIC suspense, it probably should.

As for the suspense, again, I'm left with questions. I enjoyed the dog fighting ring take, and I think that is a perfect challenge for Noah to take on (being the animal lover and trainer that he is). But that dog fighting ring also being involved with guns, drugs, and human trafficking? Confusion.

Add to that there random obsession with Kate, how they managed to find out about the undercover role Noah played (yes this happens but why don't I know how it happened here specifically?), and the fact that we were left with so much still unresolved.

It's a no for me.

Montana Mystery is the 4th book in the authors’ Resting Warriors Ranch Series. This one revolves around former Navy SEAL Noah and a new to the series character Kate. The first mystery (which doesn’t remain one for very long) is who beat Kate’s younger brother Brandon nearly to death before dumping him off outside a hospital emergency room in Missoula. The next larger mystery that consumes most of this story is where is the base of operations for this illegal gambling, gun and drug running criminal ring. Another mystery to me (which is germane to seemingly all contemporary romances) is how the male and female protagonists can spend so much time being emotionally and sexually intimate but feel it’s too soon to admit (even to themselves) that they’ve fallen in love? Call me old fashioned but to my way of thinking that’s putting the cart before the horse. What’s not a mystery is that Noah and Kate will have incredible sex, and fall madly in love. What’s also not a mystery is just like in all the previous books in this series, somehow Kate will fall into the hands of a psychopath requiring an eleventh hour rescues by Noah and the rest of the Resting Warriors team. This book like the earlier ones is extremely formulaic, but if you like likeable protagonists and secondary characters, romance, sexy times and heart stopping suspense, you like myself will probably enjoy this book and the rest of this series.

Montana Mystery is the fourth book in the Resting Warrior Ranch series. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend you read the previous three books in the series before this one so you have better knowledge of the secondary characters and what has happened so far on the ranch and in town of Garnet Bend. If you can’t, then I suggest you read the books after this one if you can.

Montana Mystery is the romantic suspense story between Noah Scott and Kate Tilbeck. Their story drops you right into a situation and from there on you are on the edge of your seat in suspense, action, and mystery. Noah and Kate have been dealt cards that involve hard and painful pasts and experiences that still haunt them. When danger arrives at both their doorsteps, these two work together to fight past their fears and work towards a future they both never imagined of pursuing.

Noah Scott is a former Navy SEAL, who was held captive by an enemy during his years of service and part owner of the Resting Warrior Ranch. Everyday is a struggle for him with his PTSD and memories from those two months of pain, torture, and endless darkness. As a way to battle the demons of his past & PTSD, Noah has found comfort and healing while working and training with the animals on the ranch, especially Al Pacacino and a couple of cute kittens. With his constant struggle, he hasn’t really allowed himself to think about a future past surviving everyday while envying his brothers fall in love one by one until one day a woman arrives on the ranch searching for him.

Kate Tilbeck has been the sole provider for her younger brother ever since a tragic accident took their parents’ lives at a young age. Her main focus as been him and surviving one day at a time. She built a business from the ground up and it has given her the ability to spend time at home and focus on her brother- helping him acclimate back into civilian life after his last tour. When Kate gets a phone call regarding her brother, she is thrown back to the day that changed their lives together. With trying to keep them clothes, fed, and their heads above water, she never imagined what her future would look like or even imagined sharing her life with someone until she met him.

Noah and Kate’s relationship is a slow build and once they agree to give into the pull and their desires, it’s red hot and steamy from there. These two find comfort within each other during their hard times and as they spend more time together, they start to peel back the layers and slowly break down the walls that guard their hearts. They become so attuned to one another that without the other by their side, its like missing a piece of themselves. I might have swooned a time or two in this book over something Noah has said or done.

As I have said before, this collaboration is genius and every book in this series gets better and better. I can’t wait to read who gets a book next and I’m hoping Brandon will eventually get a book.

Highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a good book that is filled with animals, mystery, suspense, and a steamy love story that will make you fall in love with Montana and these fierce alpha males and the women who steal their hearts.

The authors of this book have created an enthralling romantic suspense with wonderful heroic characters.

The authors immediately hooked me when, in the first chapter, Kate receives a phone call from the hospital. Her only living relative, her brother Brandon, has been seriously beaten and is in a coma. Brandon has been living with Kate since he returned home from the military after being diagnosed with PTSD.

When Kate goes through Brandon’s bloody clothes at the hospital, she finds a piece of paper with Noah’s name. Noah, a former SEAL, is one of the owners of Resting Warrior Ranch (RWR). This ranch specializes in helping veterans with PTSD. Brandon had tried their program, but had left because he hated it there. In spite of that, Kate bravely drives to RWR to seek Noah’s help. This decision changes her whole life when Noah chooses to help her.

As it turns out, a mafia-type group has set up secretive illegal dog fighting “tournaments” around the area. Brandon is conned into betting on some of the fights, and he now owes them a large sum of money. They beat him up to “remind” him that he has not paid his latest payment. When Kate interrupts these people tearing apart her home while looking for money, she leaves and moves into RWR.

Kate and Noah are fascinating characters who have heroic personalities. Kate is a very brave woman who refuses to give up on her brother. She is courageous enough to personally help Noah catch the evil men. Noah also suffers from PTSD, but he has it pretty much under control. He knows that Brandon didn’t give RWR a chance. However, in spite of all of that, he offers to help Kate.

This is a thriller that is filled with non-stop action and some very evil villains. The story revolves around two imperfect people who immediately discover they are attracted to each other. Their chemistry is so hot that they can’t keep their hands off of each other. However, their love-making is romantic, loving and exceptionally beautiful.

Author, Josie Jade, at the end of the book states her reason for writing in two words. She hopes to prove to everyone that “heroes exist.” She makes me a believer.

A PHENOMENAL READ

The newest installment of the Resting Warriors Ranch in Montana did NOT disappoint. Former Navy SEAL, Noah Scott suffers from PTSD from his time in captivity in Afghanistan. Along with his best friends and fellow former SEALS, they have created a haven for those suffering from PTSD whether or not it was caused by military action or life. Noah has a gentle touch with the various animals on the ranch .. he specializes in fostering/training the Alpacas, cats and dogs of all ages. Kate Tilbeck storms into the Ranch after her younger brother, Brandon has Ben beaten so badly he is hospitalized. The only thing Kate knows, is the slip of paper with Noah’s name and the Ranch info. She drives from MIssoula with her figurative guns loaded ready to hold Noah and the rest responsible.
It is much worse than anyone thought. Her apartment is broken in to and demands are made on her to pay back the mon3y her brother lost gambling. Noah and friends are ready and willing to help in anyway they can. Brandon was caught up in a dog-fighting mess that must be dealt with. Hard for these warriors NOT to be of help.

Readers of this series and love the characters, will enjoy reuniting with the warriors and the women they love and who love them. They become friends of Kate’s and family as they embrace her as they have done for others in the past… friendships made which will last forever Bonds made that won’t be severed.

Once again Janie Crouch and Josie Jade have written compelling, sympathetic, empathetic characters readers simply must root for… their is the love, passion, wit and humor one haas come to expect in this series. Noah tells Kate about the suggestion the onsite therapist told him to do with things that are too difficult to deal with at that moment.. “put them in the vault..” which he has branded in his mind. It reminded me of the Eastern Philosophy of putting things one needs to deal what into a drawer in that saw imaginary “vault” only this is a drawer.. then deal with what is inside when you are ready.
Take this book out now and read it. You won’t be disappointed… plus you really n3eed to know about Garfield and Salem.

The only reason I am giving this book 2 stars is because the plots in this series are getting super repetitive. If I had read this book first, I might have enjoyed it more. Being the fourth in the series with the same old and predictable routine of the damsel in distress being rescued by the knight in a shining armor, I cannot enjoy it anymore. Will all the books in the series be like that?? It was fine for the first ones, but for every single one of them?? Do the authors lack that much creativity? How hard could it be to put the main couple in a different sort of stress that didn't involve rescuing and saving the heroine's life? Not to mention that now that the "warriors" have been through this 4 times (!!!) every time it happens again makes them look incompetent. Take this book for instance.

***Minor spoilers ahead ***

After everything these guys faced with Evelyn, Grace and Cori, Daniel and Lucas really felt like it was a good idea to let Kate travel all by herself to a different town while the "bad guy" was still on the loose. I couldn't buy that at all! It was out of character for both of them and ridiculously stupid! And after Kate is taken, Lucas says "We take care of our women"! And I was like "Really??? Clearly you're doing a terrible job then." Most of the danger they face are 100% avoidable, but they get into it because of poor choices and bad decisions. All 4 books in this series so far were like that. Will the next 4 be the same? Also, the stories are starting to show some glitches. For example, in this book Kate notices Evelyn's engagement ring when we know from the first book that she has an engagement necklace, because her previous engagement ring was burnt into her finger. Did the authors forget about this very important detail? Shame on them and on the proofreaders.
There were some other things but I think I've done enough rant and rave. For now. If the next book lacks creativity and originality too, my ranting will return with full force and the next book will be my last in the series.

I have truly loved every book in this series. The men in Resting Warrior are each amazing in their own special way. I must admit that thought I loved them all, Lucas from book 1 has remained my favorite... but I think Noah may have taken his spot. Noah is just a wonderfully tortured yet sweet man. He went through so much when he was in the military and it left him with PTSD. He struggles with feeling like if he could ever have a "normal" / good life and if he should even try. But he is so loyal to his friends and so sweetly caring with his animals you just want to jump into the book and say yes you are worth everything and more! I really felt bad for Kate that was trying to be there for her brother who just returned from the military with demons of his own. He gets caught up with the wrong crowd and ends up in the hospital. It is because of this that Kate and Noah meet. The instant pull they have for each other can be felt right away. It was such a tangible force in the story that you fell pulled right along with them. I love how supportive Kate and Noah are for each other. Kate needs Noah to help her with the mess her brother is in, while Noah needs Kate just as much to give him the peace and love he needs. I could not put this book down once I started, which was the case with all the previous ones as well. This story grabs you on page 1 and doesn't let go until you read the last word. My only issue is that Brandon seems to have an issue with Resting Warrior right at the beginning, and thought Kate constantly mentions that she doesn't understand why or what happened, you never get a answer. However this one thing does not distract from the book at all. Hopefully Brandon will get his own story and we can learn more then. In any case this was a fantastic book that I will probably be reading again and again.

If you are coming upon this review and you haven’t experienced the men and women of Resting Warrior Ranch yet; please go to the very first book and go from there you won’t be disappointed. The men and women of Resting Warrior Ranch are supportive and protective of each other and have a strength that all of us wish to have. This is the story of Kate and Noah these two have both endured things that would break a lot of people. Kate will do anything for her only family she has which is her brother and when he’s horribly beaten the only clue she has is Noah’s phone number that was found in her brothers pocket. Noah is constantly fighting demons from his past, but when he’s confronted by a pissed off Kate the question is has he met his match. Kate quickly finds out that the men if Resting Warrior Ranch are nothing like her brother made them out to be, so the question remains who wanted him taken out. Noah and the rest of Resting Warrior will stop at nothing to find out who’s been hurting people and now dogs that are being forced to fight. Noah will use the demons of his past to keep Kate safe even if that means showing her a side of him that he never wanted her to see. Kate is thrown into everything and everyone that makes up Resting Warrior Ranch and realizes it’s a beautiful place and hopes her brother will return here for help. These evil people that now want Kate since they got a glimpse of her will stop at nothing to make sure she keeps her mouth shut and take down all of Resting Warrior Ranch; since the men of Resting Warrior Ranch will take down an evil syndicate that is operating close to their home. Will Kate and Noah survive everything The Riders throw at them? This story had me in tears and on the edge of my seat as well as longing for the passion that flies off the pages between Noah and Kate.

When Kate's brother is beaten to within an inch of his life, she's devastated. Having lost everyone else in her life, with a brother who returned from the military suffering from PTSD and having trouble readjusting to civilian life, she's desperate and bit crazy. When she finds a phone number for someone at the Resting Warrior Ranch, she immediately jumps to the conclusion that they had a hand in her brother's injuries. Instead, she finds a group of ex-military men dedicated to helping others heal from the physical and mental scars left by war.

Noah struggles with his own PTSD after his time in the military. Working with animals at the ranch help him to remain centered. His relationship with the animals shows the softer side of this warrior. He's a good man at heart - willing to protect and help others. When Kate shows up, obviously in danger, his protective instincts kick in. He'll do anything to help keep her safe and find out what happened to her brother. As he gets to know Kate, he realizes she's the one he's been looking for. Her fire and spirit bring light into his life, and he'll do anything he can to keep her safe and keep her close.

The story moves at a good pace and has a fairly intricate mystery at the center of the story. Noah is a great leading man. He's handsome, protective, kind and stronger than he thinks. Kate is fiery and fiercely protects her family. She is a bit desperate, however, and draws some questionable conclusions at times. She doesn't always work through the logic of the situation and also willingly puts herself into unsafe situations as she doesn't think through the potential consequences to not only herself, but those around her. I would have liked her character to be a bit more composed and mature.

Still, a great suspenseful romance read. Five stars.

This is an honest, voluntary review of an ARC of the story.

Montana Mystery by Josie Jade & Janie Crouch
Resting Warrior Ranch #4

PTSD is not easy to deal with and the men of Resting Warrior Ranch know this all too well…through their own experiences and through the animals and humans that come to them for help on the ranch. This series has a group of men closer than brothers that are there for one another and those that they accept into their growing family. The men have are wonderful in their own right and perfect for the women they end up with!

What I liked:
* Kate Tilbeck: small businesswoman, brother to Brandon, family oriented, willing to do what it takes to keep her brother safe, dedicated to causes and people she cares for and when she loves them…it is wonderful.
* Noah Scott: ex-navy SEAL, carries mental and physical scars due to time as a prisoner of war, soothed by Al Pacino the alpaca, takes in stray animals, strong and lethal but also caring and the perfect book boyfriend.
* The writing, plot, location, pacing, and character development
* The relationship that developed between Kate and Noah – believable, strong, and enduring
* That Noah and his partners were there for one another and when needed by others
* The animals integral to the story
* Getting to see a few of the couples from previous books
* Knowing that Brandon, Kate’s brother, might show up in future books of the series and be better off in those books than he was in this one
* That the good guys won this skirmish though there may be run-ins with other bad guys in the future

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like – it was easy to dislike the evil people and their atrocious acts
* Having to wait for the next book in the series.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

“Every person in the world deserves to have someone in their corner. Everyone deserves to have help when they need it.”

I was debating whether or not I should write a review for this one since I don’t have much to say. Noah and Kate’s story felt similar to that of Lucas and Evelyn’s in terms of the instant love/ attraction aspect and the foolishness of falling for the villain’s trap. One aspect of this book was different from the rest- in this, we get to see the male protagonist’s backstory and trauma in a little more detail compared to the rest of the books, where it was more female-centric.

In all honesty, nothing was outstanding about Kate and instead, the few moments that Lena appeared managed to capture my interest more than the chapters of Kate’s perspective. Al Pacacino, Salem and Garfield were the highlights of this story for me. The book also elaborates the dark side of PTSD and trauma and the lingering aftermath of it.

In conclusion, this book felt more like a filler, and it built up the suspense for Jude and Lena’s story, which is the next in the series and something I have been waiting for since I read Montana Sanctuary. The plot line was a deviation from the usual setting of this series, and I enjoyed the mystery element more than the romance. I did want to like Noah and Kate, but they ended up being neutral characters that did nothing for me. This book has finally piqued my interest regarding Daniel because despite being mentioned in the previous instalments, there was something about him that caught my eye in this.

“Just let it pass through. If it was a bad memory or a good one. Whatever thoughts, dark or light, let my mind be a conduit for them instead of a container. Thoughts couldn’t hurt me. They weren’t a physical thing. A thought didn’t have to be acted on. It could just be let go.”
