"...I have a love-hate relationship with relationships. I want one, but I hate the dickheads I keep finding. Because of this, I'm in a perpetual horny state. And a girl can only rely on her vibrator for so long. It's not the same as the real thing, not remotely."I know this looks like an office hook-up romance, but that's not quite accurate. Devlin and Allegra work for a large company, but nowhere near each other.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to find "The One". Every girl wants to find him. Since I haven't found any suitable contenders for the position, I might as well have some fun while I'm young.Allegra was such a fun character - a modern business woman who has put her carer above everything else. Her determination has paid off; she's been steadily climbing the corporate ladder and her future is bright.
"I saw the way you were looking at me earlier... and despite the anger in those eyes right now, I can feel the lust radiating off your skin." He lifts a finger to keep me from responding. "You can deny it all you want to me, but you need to stop lying to yourself."Devlin is the hook-up that got away. At last year's corporate gala, Allegra was ready to give him a chance. Unfortunately, Devlin blew his opportunity, and she's managed to avoid him for a whole year...
It'll be a night I'll always remember until I become an old woman [...] It's also a dangerous notion, one that could land my heart in a prison of its own making. He's overriding my common sense, and I'm letting him do it.This book is full of sexual tension and humor, and was a lot of fun to read.
"This is a mistake.
Not pairing the silver stilettos with y brand new blue dress-no, that was genius. The mistake is coming here tonight when I should have stayed in my hotel room. It's not like I couldn't come up with a believable excuse. I'm relatively good under pressure. Not to mention the fact that lounging in nothing but a robe and watching from my window as the sun sets behind the Manhattan skyline sounded exceptionally better."
"Screw finding The One. I just need one night. That's all I ask, at least for now."
"I match his gaze as I place the cheesecake in my mouth, slowly pulling the fork out. I lick my lips seductively, never looking away. He stiffens in his seat, leaning forward slightly. I toss him a quick wink and go for the last bite. After I use my forefinger to wipe my mouth clean, I place tin my mouth, licking the remainder of the chocolate off. At this point, his formerly open hand has turned into a fist. I'm getting to him. This makes me smile in victory."
"Wait a second. Where am I? Because I could've sworn the last time I saw you, I told you to go to hell."
He frowns. "Come on, Allegra. You can't still be mad at me." I'd believe he is truly upset if it weren't for the puppy dog eyes he's giving me.
"You expect me to just let it go like that?" I snap my fingers.
"Goodbye, New York," I whisper. "Hello, next chapter."
