I kinda skimmed this book because I was dying to know why Kane slept around and whether or not he knew if Lily was alive and I got an answer:
“But knowing she was alive didn’t stop you from sleeping around, did it? Your vows were meaningless in the end, weren’t they?” Kane’s jaw clenches. “Knowing she was alive and not with me – choosing not to be with me – whatever the reason . . . Yeah, I was angry and hurt. I wanted her to hurt. Enough that she’d come back. Not something I’m proud of. And I’ll live with the shame always.”
Yep. Nope ✋🏼 I am out. We haven't seen nearly enough grovelling from this man. and on top of that the use of "you" is completely atrocious. I might keep updating this as I skim ahead but don't think I'll be reading this book. I am skipping rating this one.
I just wanna take a moment here and remind everyone of this amazing gem of a plot point in this series: “You fucked my brothers, Amy.”
Amy being Kane's sis-in-law has in fact screwed all three brothers. Then in the epilogue we get this amazing gem:
“I do, yes. Amy Searle, party of two. I’m meeting my sister here.”
The sister in question.. is in fact LILY. Lily who was Kane's WIFE! Kane who slept with Amy after Lily died/left. He knew SHE WAS ALIVE somewhere. My face reading this scene was:
Please no. May I re-direct people (and my future self debating reading this book anyway) to my review of the previous book where Amy was constantly thinking of Kane's 🍆? Can I? This is from book 1: Lily has spent days with Kane all to herself. Knowing Kane, I imagine she’s as swollen and tender as I am right now. I had trouble walking for days after he fucked me.
There are many more like these. Many, Many, Many more....
Apparently, Witte (Kane's trusty man) is Lily's dad (I assume) and he has seen over the years (as he joined Kane after Lily left) ALL of Kane's conquests and was responsible for kicking them out after Kane was done with them? Ew. Please no.
Honorable Mentions to Kane and Lily's beginnings: Here the "you" refers to Lily. I stepped back, catching my breath, not wanting to accept that you weren’t there. That you would even think you could run from me. That you would try. -------------- The longer you kept us separated, the deeper I’d slip into the blackness. Creatures left too long in the dark turned feral. -------------- “No one has ever or could ever make love to you like I will. They don’t have the skill, the patience or the endurance I do, and they’ll never put your pleasure ahead of their own the way I will. Because I’m so fucking into you. You’re everything to me.” -------------- “Let’s be clear: I’m not here to get laid and then return to my regularly scheduled programming. We start now, Setareh. Today is Day One of the rest of our lives together. If you think I’m an option and not your endgame, you need to think again.” -------------- “I love you, Lily. I’m proving it every day. I’m tired of living without you – I can’t do it anymore. Stop running scared and take me. I’m yours.” --------------
The books establish how they meet, Kane knew Lily was already flighty. The fact that she left must've been a shock but no surprise. I am actually appalled at Kane cheating. YES CHEATING. On lily.
Why are dudes always the ones getting their rocks off "because that is the only way to process emotions/grieve.. etc"?.... or my personal pet peeve "they meant nothing". Yuck. No. “I’m not grasping for excuses here,” you continue. “I could have abstained, but sometimes I didn’t. I’ve told you why . . . what I was thinking and feeling when I chose to sleep with other women.” . . . The longing for you was crippling. Some days, I couldn’t stop myself from looking for you, searching for you, in every woman I saw.
CAPTIVATING. This had me on the edge of my seat with so many twists and turns. It kept me guessing till the very end. I really didn’t want this book to end but in the end I feel in love with these characters that i didn’t trust from the very beginning.
I really wanted to enjoy this book, and whilst I felt a sense of closure by the end I did find myself disappoint. Too Far is the following on from So Close, set in the Crossfire world, following the lives of Kane Black, his dead wife (now returned) and their family. There was lots of twists and turns within the story, many buried secrets and lots of violence. I am glad there was a redemption arc for both Amy and Alyiah I also felt that Alyiah’s was rushed, not deserved and unclear, it felt like it backtracked from the previous book and that some of the information we were given regarding her. I wish this book had more collective scenes where all the characters were together, it felt quite disjointed the whole way through which meant there was a lack of cohesiveness throughout. Whilst I didn’t hate the book and I am a big Sylvia Day fan I just found this book left me feeling empty, I needed more from it.
I struggled to like this one. The writing style was hard to adjust to as it just didn’t seem to flow too easily. Although a lot is happening, nothing is really happening. Because there is so much going on, the time line keeps jumping and we keep changing characters, it’s hard to follow and link to any character. It also means that much of the plot is not fleshed out as much as I would have like. I did however like a few of the characters. I like Rogelio, strong and doesn’t take any shit. I enjoyed Kane. And Witte’s chapters were good.
Thank you to Penguin Random House for this advanced copy.
Well. I loved that. Great second book. Ending in a pretty good happy end for most people. It was interesting. Mysterious. Dangerous. Crazy. Sad. Heartbreaking. And so much more. I wouldn't mind seeing this on Netflix one day. I would've exchanged Kane's porny epilogue-from-the-past with a cute one from their future. And the timelines still didn't really match up. Six years ago Lily died. Then we have 1999. What year is today? And Kane was in College six years ago with 28? He is 34 if you follow the weird timeline. It's all a bit weird. But I still loved reading it. It was different than most books. But I liked it!
In Sylvia Day's "Too Far," I find an intriguing concept that delivers the expected spiciness from this renowned author. The plot is captivating, and the story itself is quite interesting. The narrative is fast-paced, filled with tension, and the chemistry between the characters is off the charts. As I read through the pages, I can't help but get drawn into the complexities of the characters, especially Lily, Kane, and Aliyah. Their relationships are intricate, adding depth to the story. While Day's writing style is sensual and engaging, there are moments where the descriptions become a bit too elaborate for my liking but some books are just meant to be like that. Overall, "Too Far" is a great conclusion to the duet, offering a suspenseful and thought-provoking tale of love, betrayal, and family intrigue. The characters grapple with their pasts, and the story raises questions about identity and shared connections, making it a thrilling addition to Sylvia Day's impressive body of work.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley, opinions are my own.
Again, the romance is the least interesting aspect of the Blacklist world. Could've benefitted from more flashbacks to Lily's life before Kane, as that was the most intriguing. Aliyah's flashbacks definitely enrich the story, making her more relatable.
Missed opportunities for the author to really stretch herself and push circumstances to the extreme for more thrilling and enthralling storytelling.
Another great story and once I started reading it all came back to me. Lots of emotion, tension and violence but love finds a way through. Great conclusion. left me on a high!!
I skimmed the last 40%. It could be too much time has gone in between reads of book 1 & 2. This is just feels very different read from Sylvia. I just stopped caring what was happening as too many povs and it didn't flow well for me.
This was an amazing duet. I loved this book especially because those precious answers came to light. I highly recommend this series. Sylvia Day is a legend!!! As an author I want to be like her when I “grow up” and as a reader I am addicted to her work.
This book had me enraptured. It kicks off right where book 1 ends, so I suggest rereading So Close before starting Too Far. The plot was thrilling and I loved how we got to know more about Lily, Kane, Amy and Aliyah's backstories. I genuinely could not put this book down once I started it and decided not sleeping would be better. I ended up finishing the book less than 12 hours after I started it. It was that good! I did predict the plot twist towards the end though, but I was not to fussed because I could not tell what was coming next throughout the whole book. The drama, suspense and mystery were so well and the plot was fast paced. I just wish we got to see an epilogue where Lily and Kane were living their best lives after all the horrible things they went through. Thank you to Penguin Michael Joseph for a copy of the proof to review. I loved it!
I didn’t know soap-opera books were a thing, but I don’t know what else to call this genre. Every character is gorgeous and wealthy and perfectly coiffed and brilliant and deplorable. Everyone behaves abominably while feeling justified. There are secret lookalikes, druggings, kidnappings, and amnesia. Obsessive love, violent hate, purple prose. Interesting read, don’t think this is a genre for me.
Forgot to mention the worst part. Second. Person. POV.
A family so messed up and a story told in multiple perspectives. In book 2 we cannot determine what is real, we cannot determine who to trust and the plot thickens and then the demon presents itself and must be dealt with. As the family that fights one another now must join forces to stop the one person playing games with them. And you don’t know who is driving the madness.
The story has so many secrets, characters that do not know who they really are and a snake that has planned the strike.
This is a story that must be read when focused otherwise you will forget the character you are reading and the events that will be unfolding!
I have been waiting to read Too Far since the moment I finished So Close. The loose ends and revelations at the end had me needing to know what was going to happen next for Kane, Lily, and the cast of characters. Sylvia Day didn't let me down. She gave me a riveting conclusion to their story. It was just as crazy of a ride filled with so much drama, suspense, and revelations. I loved where the story took each main character and how I managed to be surprised by each. I got my answers and everything I could have wanted in the conclusion to this duet. It was such a fun ride!
As always, it's a pleasure to read anything by the amazing Day. It's not my first from her and certainly won't be my last.
Day is such a brilliant writer. Without fail she manages to capture the raw emtions and highs and lows throughout the book, from ALL the characters. Such strong POVs the entire way through the book and it's so thoroughly brought to life.
I was kept on my toes throughout, I couldn't predict anything even when it's right in front of my face. There's so much suspense and mystery in the entire book and it made for such an amazing story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Michael Joseph for allowing me to read this ARC - this is an HONEST review from my own personal opinion.
I’ve been a Sylvia Day fan from day one. I’ve waited with baited breath for every new book and have never been disappointed. We have waited a long, long time for these books and they were certainly worth the wait. I really do not know how she can possibly outdo herself after these books. To say this duet was my favorite ever is putting it mildly! Thank you Sylvia!
This is a continuation of the first book.
A lot of twists and turns, genuinely couldn’t put it down. There is a lot going on which means some plots couldn’t be fleshed out properly leaving some parts of the story lacking detail and depth. Overall a good sequel.
What a spectacular ending to this duet. You couldn’t even begin to guess the stories happening with all the characters. You’ll never see the twists coming. I LOVED the Crossfire series and this one was just as good.
The story of these 2 book series was interesting, but I still had a big issue with the multiple povs and switches from first person singular to 2nd person to third person. It made it very unpersonal and didn't permit you to connect with the characters or the story.
So confusing, the second person POV is absolutely shite, how did not one editor said “hey maybe write properly because this a mess” I don’t remember the crossfire being written like this, granted it’s been years since I read it but my God there’s just no way.
A little too fragmented compared to Book 1 and resultantly, not as successful; this was still a pretty bonkers read which I enjoyed reading on the plane.
The coincidences in the end were a little too ridiculous but overall, I enjoyed my read. A quick one but was quite fun.
While book 1 captivates you - book 2 falls flat. It was such a bummer because if edited correctly this would’ve been perfect to just wrap it all in one book.
I felt like Wittes personality completely changed from Book 1 to book 2.
Darius diagnosis is completely wrong working in the mental health field he doesn’t hear voices. Some better research should’ve been used.
Book 2 felt rushed and just felt like it needed some more.
It felt like there was no conflict in part 2, but rather trying to “solve” the problem to find a way to wrap it up quickly with little sprinkles here and there.
The writing style is vastly different but had no baring on rating scale.

I am so disappointed in this book. I have read nearly all of sylvia's books, but i could not finish this one. I can usually reas a book within 2-3 days, but after 2-3 weeks i was srill only one third the way in. The storyline was disjointed, going from presemt to past then back again. The number of characters and their bacj stories only asses to the condusion. Overall, i was terribly disappointed in herwork on this book.
