Wendy Owens is a thriller writer, born in the small college town, Oxford Ohio. After attending Miami University, Wendy went onto a career in the visual arts. After several years of creating and selling her own artwork she gave her first love, writing, a try. It’s become a passion ever since. When she’s not writing, this dog lover can be found spending time with her tech geek husband, their three amazing kids, and three pups. She loves to cook, watch movies, and play games.
Wendy Owens has written another incredible story you won't want to miss. THE LUCKIEST is the third book in her Stubborn Love series and is connected to the first two books as the story of how Christian met his friend "Mac" while working as a roadie for his friend Dean's band. Although some characters overlap in this series to connect the books, each can be read as a stand-alone. However, I warn you. Once you get a taste of Wendy's writing you'll be going back for more!
Be prepared for a love story beyond what you typically read. Be prepared to really feel as you are taken on a journey that starts out so sad, then offers hope, and then finally happiness again. Expect to cry, but you will also smile, and you will be glad you went through every step along with the heroine, Mackenzie "Mac" Phillips.
Mac's life was once wonderful with all her dreams as a young woman coming true. She was happily married to her high school boyfriend with a sweet baby girl and in school to be come a chef. When tragedy strikes and that world is gone Mac falls into an oblivion, a darkness she can't get past. She essentially stops living herself, because her grief is so overwhelming. When her dear father, who has been her anchor, suddenly dies she is forced to take an active role in her survival again. A chance meeting with Christian Bennett leads to a job offer with a band lead by singer, Dean Johnson. Mac steels herself and accepts the job as chef for the band as they tour. After three years in virtual isolation she thrusts herself into an unknown world and lifestyle.
On the road with the band, Mac is repeatedly challenged by the job, the road life, and the band she starts to find herself again. She opens up little by little and begins to live, rather than just survive each day. She almost immediately bonds with the friendly, charismatic (and very sexy) Christian. She also finds herself drawn to the mysterious, but often sullen Dean. She's so used to feeling nothing at all so the confusion of such a myriad of emotions is often a struggle for her. Her numbing pain is still always there, but it's now sharing space with pride in her progress and accomplishments, fear and wonder at all the new things she is experiencing, attraction, frustration, anger, disappointment, desire, guilt and hope.
Dean has his own secrets and heartbreak. Broken in his own right, he understands Mac's pain and vulnerability. He's attracted to her, but keeps it to himself. He knows she's not ready for the kind of relationship he'd like to have with her, so he tries to be her friend. Dean was NOT the typical self-indulged rock star. Well, he was gorgeous with a voice that melted hearts and he oozed sex-appeal, so a few of the better rock star qualities, but more importantly, he was kind, patient, and tender with Mac. Dean finds ways for them to do things together that help get her mind off her pain and break open her shell a bit. He really was wonderful and it was impossible not to want him to have all he dares to hope for in the end.
I like that there was nothing rushed in this book. Not Mac's healing, not her transition into a new life beyond Travis and Katie, and not her jumping into a new relationship. The Luckiest is a beautifully written story of a strong woman who finds the courage to live, and to eventually love again. 4 stars.

Beautiful love story will make your heart fill up with joy and love!!
This is a beautiful and wonderful story. When a loved one passes away, a piece of us goes with them. This story begins with Mackenzie having lost her family and along with them she lost herself. Since the death of her husband and daughter her life stood still, her feelings froze and her connection to others disappeared. She cocooned into herself. Until, another tragedy forces her to move on, she has no choice. Sometimes, that is the only way we wake up to life and living it. That is what this story is about. It's about having to get yourself up and live. About letting your feelings rise within and realize, life continues. It's about second chances. The love story between Dean and Mackenzie unfolds beautifully. Dean is a rock star and Mackenzie goes on tour with the band as their personal Chef. This is her new beginning. Dean is a beautiful man inside and out. He pursues Mackenzie without pressuring her. He moves at her pace, waiting for her to be ready. In her new journey Mackenzie learns to love again. She finds out that others cared about her and were patiently waiting for her to go through her grieving. She learns to be herself, without needing someone else to define her. She learns that moving on doesn't mean you forget those you lost. My heart ached for Mac and it surged with love for Dean, so loving, sensitive and understanding. This story is a must read. All the characters are beautiful and complement each other. This story is true to life.

Oh Em Gee.......someone tell my why I haven't heard of Wendy Owens before now!!
When I was asked to review this book I was a little hesitant because I hate feeling pressured to meet a deadline when reviewing a book and unless I specifically want to read something that isn't released yet I don't ask for/read ARC's. I am so glad I accepted this one and there was no problem meeting the deadline because I simply couldn't put it down and got through it over two days (I'm actually writing this a few days before my post is due.....new record for me LOL).
WOW, what a book. From the very first page I was hooked. The prologue is super intense. It is gut wrenching and heartbreaking and makes you feel every emotion described on the pages. It had me so intrigued I just had to keep turning page after page.
MacKenzie life hadn't always been easy. At 12 she lost her mother to cancer but by the tender age of 19 she had married her high school sweetheart Travis and became a mother herself to a beautiful baby girl named Katie but at 21 her world is tragically ripped from her and soon after she loses her father to a heart attack. With nothing left to live for Mac spirals into a pit of depression unable to escape from her pain and guilt.
When she finds out her father had been taking care of her money situation and now that he is gone it is now left to her to deal with she realises she will need to work to survive. After a chance incident at the local grocery store Mac meets a handsome gentleman named Christian and from there Mac's life is set on a new path. Through Christian's connections and her culinary training she gets a job as a personal Chef for a band named Head Case after wowing the sexy, tattooed frontman Dean Johnson.
For a minute there she has a game of tug-o-war in her head over who is more for her, Christian or Dean, and I have to be honest I would have liked to see that love triangle delved into a bit deeper but ultimately Dean is her destiny. Even though he has a rough past himself he is a strong, sweet man who cares for Mac immensely and you can't help but fall in love with this amazing, understanding man.
"When I make you happy it's the most amazing feeling in the world"............SWOON!!
When Mac realises things are getting serious she freaks out because she would prefer to be alone than to fall in love again and experience the unbearable pain of losing them again. Since she believes she is cursed she is determined to build herself a life on her own.....and doesn't she ever. She is such a strong and inspiring woman who has a dream and digs deep to achieve it.
This story is emotional, inspiring, heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time. If you have lost someone or if your simply a mum I think you will have a deeper connection to this story and find you've cried and smiled with joy by the end of the book. I highly recommend this......get it now!!

I really liked this book. I did not read books one and two in the series before reading this book and found no issues diving right in to the story. This book opens with a bang leaving you with tears in your eyes, wanting to know what is going to happen next. This book was sweet, sexy, fast paced, and taught the reader a lesson about letting go and moving on after tragedy strikes.
This is the story of Mackenzie "Mac" and Dean. After losing her husband and young daughter in a car accident where she walked away barely hurt, Mac is having trouble moving on. Three years later, Mac is still grieving. When he father unexpectedly dies, it sends her reeling again. When she finds out that he was broke when he died, it gives her the wake up call she needs. When she meets a guy named Christian by chance, he tells her about an opportunity of a lifetime- travel with a band to be their personal chef. So Mac makes the decision and decides to do it. But what she doesn't expect is tattooed band member Dean or the way he makes her feel. As Dean slowly starts to pursue her, Mac battles trying to open up and move on after tragedy or deciding to be alone for life. Will Mac take a chance on love again or are the risks too much for her to bear?
Ok, I loved Dean. I wish this book would have been dual POV at time, especially during the "break" they took so Mac could get herself together. Oh back to Dean. He was sweet, kind, sensitive, patient, and totally determined to give Mac time to come to him. I also liked Mac though I had trouble with connecting with her at times. I wish she would have taken more steps to heal instead of an unnecessary break when the man clearly wanted her and would let her take her time. It was nice to watch her heal though and slowly process everything after so long. I was happy to see her achieve her dreams and finally take a chance on love. I loved Mac and Dean together though and I loved the ending... SWOON!
Great book. I will be going back to read the first two book in the series though I want to know more about Christian!!
This was my first Wendy Owens book and it certainly won't be my last. This is book 3 of the Stubborn Love series but can be read as a standalone. The Luckiest sees MacKenzie Phillips having endured enough tragedy and heartbreak that would cripple most people. By 21 she's a widow and has lost her baby girl Katie.... How do you go on??? You hide away, shut yourself off and avoid the world then nothing bad can happen, no one can hurt you or leave you heartbroken. Mac copes for three years like this until the Grim Reaper resurfaces and she has to find a job and become self sufficient.
Fate literally causes Mac to run into Christian, this event brings Mac and Dean Johnson together. Dean a hot, tattooed lead singer from the band Head Chase who has his own secrets to keep. The charismatic Dean encourages Mac to allow herself to feel, listens to her and is the most patient man imaginable. She blossoms and thrives having a purpose as a chef now on the road with Head Chase but life has a way of never being simple.... Mac constantly feels cursed, destined to be alone and fears any form of connection with anyone, she's conflicted by her emotions towards Dean as she feels guilt, betrayal and anger for Travis and Katie who are no longer here.
I won't spoil this read but it's an emotional journey, for anyone whose suffered a loss you'll be crying along with Mac at her turmoil and conflicting emotions, but screaming at some of her decisions. I was so pleased that Wendy actually stepped away from the obvious ending and allowed her characters to grow and develop and not become a cliche fictional HEA couple.
This book took me through a range of emotions but was so worth it. A massive 5 star read.
***** I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review for Kinky Book Klub ***
I read the blurb for this book, and once I started reading I had to go back to the blurb twice to make sure that Dean was the love interest in this book. Because Christian was pretty much the guy the focus was on for the first third of the book. Dean pretty much walked around acting like a dick and snarling at Mac and the food she made. Then he seems stunned that she's unaware that he likes her.
I felt sorry for Mac (who wouldn't), losing her husband and daughter, and was rooting for her to get her life together. But she pretty much lost me at around 70%, when she pulls the "everyone dies around me, I can't be with you" card. I kept wondering why Dean even wanted her back, she pretty much only thought about herself and her own pain. And I hated the way she kept comparing Dean to Travis (her late husband), and Travis always seemed to fall short. He's dead, let him rest in peace!
I found myself left with quite a few unanswered questions. Wasn't Dean's band successful (they must have been if they could afford to hire a chef)? Why just up and call it quits? Don't the other guys have a say? There was almost no information about the band, and I just can't believe a successful band would just stop when they are all in their 20's. It made no sense. Why would Dean move to Ohio? It's not exactly a music producer mecca. Why were Mac's stepsisters (who both had to be under 12 years of age) working in a restaurant? Their names were never mentioned, and Mac seemed to have little relationship with either one.
I received an ARC for my honest review. I have only read one other series from this author. I am pretty new to her work. But I am fast becoming a huge fan!
WOW! This story really touched me. Mac loses so much in her life and can't imagine moving on. She can't imagine ever being happy again. She is so devastated that she almost ceases to exist.
When an opportunity comes knocking on her door she decides to open it. She meets some new people and they show her that life can continue. You can be happy after facing something so terrible. Life continues to move on and her new friends show her how to do that.
I loved this story. I have never experienced the loss that Mac does but the writer does an amazing job making you feel what Mac feels. I felt hurt, mad, sad, pissed off, happy, loved, cherished and everything else Mac was feeling.
The story flowed perfectly, the characters were well developed and really left nothing hanging. It is a great story and I would recommend this to anyone.
Wow. This book was so amazingly adorbs that I just can't get over it!
Mac had a seriously messed up couple of years but when she gets a chance to be a personal chef for a rock band, she takes it. And she meets Dean. *fangirl sigh* Dean was the epitome of perfection and not rock and roll-ish at all. Plus, that epilogue?! I was sold.
lol okay, i shouldn't judge a book by a single action, but what happened there was the beginning of the steady decline in my interest. i've read halfway through, and i know how it will end, so it doesn't bother me at all that i'm not going to find out more.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
When I started reading "The Luckiest" I was armed with yes, my trusted friend kleenex!
Mac is mourning the loss of Travis and Katie (husband and daughter), they were killed in an accident in which she was the soul survivor. Travis was her high school sweetheart, and they got married right after school, and no sooner did Katie arrive♥
Fast forward 3 years....
Mac has it rough and is no stranger to death, having lost her mum at a young age, then the loves of her life, and then her father. My heart aches for her, and I'm wondering if emotionally I'm going to make it through this read, things take a turn, a hot turn ...
Mac is invoved in a fender bender, and the guy she drives into is a real sweetheart, and he's kind and caring towards her, he tries to calm her by distracting her with easy and simple conversation.
As it turns out our friendly stranger, Christian has a brother that's part of a band and he's decided to tag along, as it happens they're in need of a cook and our girl applies and guess who's getting her rock on?
Monica, the beautiful auburn haired bestie of Mac is a friend in a million, she's been through the darkest time in her friend's life, and I think she's thrilled at the naughty twinkle our rockers bring to her eyes. I feel for Mac as she gets cold feet and reality sinks in, it's all new and scary, but I thank mother universe for a friend like Monica who is the voice of reason and encouragement♥
Our roadtrip has begun and there's something brewing between Christian and Mac, but I think it's going to be a great friendship more than anything else, which is what both of them need.
Dean is actually quite a sweetheart♥ He's taken some time out and spends it with Mac and they get to know each other a little better, I see a little life coming to Mac's eyes. Sadly something I noticed is that there are a few of the crew that are hurting and "running", and I hope their road tripping will heal their hurts or at least that they'll be able to deal with them :(
Dean has the cutest nickname for Mac, he calls her "Macaroon"♥ He takes her for a bike ride with aweome results! I must give it to Mac she makes drinking black coffee very sexy. "There's something sexy about him drinking a cup of black coffee...To see him take the bitterness head on makes him seem so strong and raw." Then helping Christian with mechanics ... sounds like the most erotic activity!
My heart crumbles for Mac and the turmoil she's going through about "moving" on with her life. Dean and "Macaroon" have a chat while night swinging, and in their conversation there's both revelation and a lesson that has me reaching for my kleenex and howling like its full moon! Dean has me giddy, and their taste in music is legendary!
The chemistry between Dean and "Macaroon" is getting more intense by the minute and Monica's little care package helped as well, I canned myself! Dean is so gentle, kind, and patient with Mac, and he just melts my heart ♥
Patti, Dean's mum is as honest as they get and she's a real hoot! Her living conditions don't define her but her heart does and she is where she is because of love gone wrong and and act of self defense. Again, I'm howling and reaching for my kleenex! Dean is so protective and defensive of his "Macaroon" and I honestly can't picture him as a bad boy rocker with his gentle and kind heart and he loves with his whole heart.
Dean takes Mac for some ink of her own and again my opinion on inking comes through strongly....don't ink just for the sake of inking it must have a story behind it, it should be sentimental♥
The next scene has me screaming and crying like a banshee much to the shock and entertainment of those around me! I can't help myself, its just so much to take in and I'm begging Mac not to run :( By now I must look like a total nutter, and having a head of blue hair doesn't help either lol!!!
Mac needs to live and put her ghosts to rest, Dean is an amazing man! At the same time, I'm so proud of the progress she's made by opening "Katie Bird" and bless his rocker heart he pitches on opening night and fights for them♥ he reads her like a book and our girl has a 2nd chance at happily ever after.
The Luckiest was a beautiful ★★★★★ love story with some good vibes and tunes along the way. Reviewed by Heidi
Original review can be found on Sizzling Hot YA Books
The Luckiest was the the first book I’ve read by Wendy Owens, and it definitely won’t be my last. With it’s heartbreaking premise and flawed, yet extremely redeemable characters, I was fully engrossed with the world that was Dean and Mac.
After having been widowed so young, Mackenzie is emotionally out of control. Wanting nothing more than to waste her life away in the silence of her apartment doing nothing but eat. The last thing she expects to ever find is love or create a family again at that. Not when she feels as though she’s cursed; a woman causing all deaths around her by simply being involved in their lives. It only takes one car accident for her to realize that, in deed, life may have other plans for her after all. Plans that include a road trip across country with a sexy band member and his crew.
Really, though, what does she have to lose if she does this?
Having not read the other books in the series, I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed The Luckiest. Granted each book is about a different set of characters and all, but still. I’m a stickler when it comes to reading out of order no matter what. At first I was confused who the love interest for Mac would be. But thankfully that was short lived when Dean finally came into the picture. I wasn’t necessarily a fan of Mac at first, even though my heart broke for her. It wasn’t because she had bad characteristics so to speak, more so I just didn’t, for some reason, feel her grief like I expected. But further, I grew to sympathize with her and really root for her to find a happily ever after in the end. Dean was a great guy. Super sweet and sexy. A tattooed boy who rode a motorcycle and had a heart of gold. He was good for Mac. Together, they blossomed as a couple and I enjoyed watching their love unfold.
Overall, The Luckiest was an easy read with definite heart. I enjoyed Ms. Owen’s writing style and her poetic way with words. She obviously knows what she’s doing when it comes to weaving love and despair together in a way that won’t let you go until the very end.
The Luckiest is definitely a recommended read by me. A little older in that New Adult age group, but filled with a relatable group of characters you will fall easily in love with.
The Luckiest was a book that I was not expecting. I was seriously blown away by this book. This is my first Wendy Owens book and I am looking forward to reading more from her really soon.
The books starts out with MacKenzie Phillips who has had a pretty sad life. Her mom dies when she was a kid. She met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart. They married right after high school and had a baby. Then she lost them both in a car accident. If that wasn't enough Mac's dad has just died as well. To say that Mac has had a rough few years in an understatement. Now she is forced to step outside of herself and face the world that she has been hiding from the last few years.
Mac happens to stumble across a job opening to be a personal chef for a rock band. She always loved to cook and needs a job. But this job takes her out of her comfort zone and out into the world she has been hiding from. She quickly makes a friend in Christian. He also worked for the band. The become fast friends and Mac thinks he wants more with her...... and the bam.... NOTHING HAPPENS !!!
That is ok. Because the man that is interested in Mac is the lead singer named Dean. A hotty who sees Macs pain and understands some of it. He is more than patient with her and takes him time to win her over. Dean know she is in a world of hurt, and wants to help her heal. He sees a future with Mac and is willing whatever to make it happen.
Mac is scared of everything she is now feeling. She knows her husband is gone, but she still feels bad about moving on from him and her daughter. This book has me in tears so many times I lost count. Mac's pain is so strong, you wanna reach in the book and hug her.
I am not sure what I loved more about this book, Dean and what a great guy he was or the fact that sometimes you are giving a second chance at love and life.
I need to read the rest of this series. I am so glad I came across this book. This book was more than just a tear jerker. It was funny and well written. I couldn't put it down once I started it!
Wow! When I first got this book it didn't click that this was part of series...it didn't really matter as it would have only given me a back story for one of the characters - but not a main one. So this can most definitely be read as a stand alone, though I have definitely added Ms Owens other two books from the series to my kindle to read very soon!
Mackenzie(Mac) has had some pretty crappy luck in life. It started out perfect, Mum & Dad, a happy home and a her Mum's restaurant where all her troubles could be cooked away. But in a span of 10 years she lost all those she loved. Now all she had was the darkness she lived in.
Dean appears to have it all, sexy and cocky, he is a hot rock star in a touring band. But all that is not what it seems...but no one needs to know that.
The band needs a personal chef while they are on the road...and who better to fill the job but Mac. She knows she needs to change her life, she needs to get away from the cocoon she so safely keeps herself wrapped up in. SO on the road she goes cooking up a storm for the band. What she wasn't expecting was the storm that Dean would produce inside her.
The Luckiest is a gorgeous story about two broken people who are drawn together. Their connection is more than their broken pasts...the question is can either of get beyond the brokenness?
A well written, easy to read story that has just enough angst, heartache, lust and love to keep you wanting to read to the very end. Adorable characters that you are sure to fall in love with. Ms Owen's what a wonderful job...I will definitely be back for more!!
Losing her husband and daughter in car accident left MacKenzie depressed and lost. Being the sole survivor of the accident, she is left to pick up the pieces, overcome the depression, and try to begin living her life again. But after such a loss, how can you possibly put yourself together again? This is not the only loss she has experienced either. She lost her mother just as she was about to need her the most during puberty. Now, she has lost her father too to a massive heart attack. He was all she had left - her protector. But is she right?
This book deals with guilt of being the sole survivor of an accident as well as the ramifications of losing the love of your life at the beginning of your life together. Dealing with loss and the hurt that is left behind, is it better to isolate yourself and never give your heart away? If she looses someone she loves again, will she be able to continue? Will she want to go through life knowing she can lose someone and if it happens, she will hurt again?
These are just but a few obstacles our main character MacKenzie is facing as she meets the lead singer of a band. The immediate attraction scares her because she is insecure in her feelings and willingness to take a chance.
Wendy Owens' is giving us here a tender, loving and low key love affair to get us thinking about taking chances for a second time in life. I found her writing straight forward and no nonsense just like I like it. Very human reactions are included... when faced with a dilemma what would you do? I hope you find this as loving and tender a read as I did!
This book hit me where I lived. Have any of you heard that saying? No?! Yes?!? Maybe?!?! Anywho I will explain. It hit me in the place where the soul of me lives. The most honest part that you don't let anyone see because it would be just too personal, but that place you go to where you are most honest with yourself. The place where you can lay all your crap bare that is where this book hit me. It made me feel things I had long since buried. I, too, at one time had lost everything that meant anything to me and this book brought up all those emotions. To this day I still believe that if you meet that one person who you were supposed to be with and you squander your chance away and they die before you can rectify the situation then you lost at your chance at love. I believe that you don't get a second chance. The man I was supposed to be with he died when we were 21 and I have yet to meet at the age of 36 another man who will ever feel about me like he did. So, now I read books about love since my chance is gone. Then if your really special this book falls in your lap & here we are! Other subjects in this book I could also identify with, but you didn't come here to listen to my sob story! Get back to the book Blogger Lady they are probably screaming at me! lol So, I will keep this short & simple! GET THIS BOOK! FEEL THESE EMOTIONS! READ THIS STORY! If you read not one other book that I review, please read this one! It will move you beyond anything you could ever imagine. It will touch even the most jaded person where they live! Wendy Owens great job & with only reading this book you have a fan for life simply because you touched my heart! ~Shauna~
I love it when I can rate a book five stars, it means that for some reason everything was aligned, I picked up the right book to suit the mood I was in at that time and once the read was over I was left with a feeling of total satisfaction. It doesn’t happen often enough but it did with ‘The Luckiest’.
After Mac’s young daughter and husband were killed in a car accident she stopped living, only existing. Just when she thought things couldn’t get any worse her father died which effectively cut off her financial support. A trip to the store for ice-cream created an opportunity for her to change her life and start living again.
This is an emotional story about healing. Broken people coming together and slowly coming to terms with their past hurts and learning how to live life again. Mac suffered so much death in her life it’s easy to understand why she sunk into such depths of despair that she no longer wanted to get dressed in the morning, why she lived on take out and ice cream, why she gained thirty pounds and didn’t care about her appearance.
Meeting Christian was a turning point for her, he introduced her to Dean who also had a troubled past and in his own way was as broken as her. They helped each other trust in themselves again and as Mac’s confidence grew she was able to realise her dreams.
I really enjoyed following Mac’s journey, her strength made me re-evaluate certain situations in my life and I’m glad I picked up this book when I did.
Mackenzie is existing day to day after the death of her husband and young daughter. When another tragedy strikes, Mac must pick up her broken pieces and learn to survive. Existing is no longer an option. Stepping out of her cocoon, she must find a job and learn to move on. Easier said than done.
There are characters you connect with from the start, sometimes due to their circumstances mirroring your own. God willing, I pray I never have to go through the pain and hurt that Mac had to go through. I pray I never have to walk a mile in her shoes to know what she is going through. It would hurt too much. I just cannot imagine this character's pain. So even though I didn’t connect with her, I felt for her. She was a strong character. It just took some time to get there.
This was a really good story. I hurt, I laughed, and it nearly had me in tears. But I will say that even after all she has been through, Mac lifted herself out of the ashes and learned to live again. She learned to find herself, all thanks to a few friends that help her along the way. And that was my favorite part. Watching her grow throughout.
I enjoyed the romance as well. I thought it was fun and flirty and just want Mac and Dean needed in their lives. So while, Dean was helping Mac…she was actually helping him too. He has a lot of baggage that comes with its own issues. And Mac was able to help him overcome it and learn to love.
A quick, emotional read...THE LUCKIEST will have you reading from start to finish to see if Mackenzie will ever get her happily ever after. 4 Stars!!
The Luckiest person ever is me for getting to read this book early. I loved every minute that I stayed up late reading this emotional story. I could feel every tragic and ever happy moment in this story. Ever emotion the characters had, I had them right along with them. When they cried, I did and when they were happy it was an exceptional feeling you couldn't help but feel it. This author really out done herself writing this storyline. Mackenzie had lost everything and didn't know how she possibly could ever feel anything again. By chance, she landed a job cooking for a rock band and slowly she let the walls she built up, come down. She struggles with her walls even when she wants to let go but her heart has to big of a hole in it. She fines that talking with the lead singer of the band helps her, because he has had a troubled past too and it even helps that he is HOT too. When her feelings become to strong for him, she ups and leaves because she is afraid of what will happen to him, if she stays. Once she leaves, she finally finds herself, but what has she lost on the way of finding who she really is? Was it a mistake to leave the one person who really understood how she truly thinks and feels? I can't give you those answers. You will have to read this fabulous story to find out and once you do you will love every word written. This is a story that will stay with you for days and you will say WOW, over and over. Wow! Wow!! Wow!!! Truly amazing!!!
For three years Mackenzie Phillips has been numb, her whole life had been ripped from her with one tragic event. After losing her father, Mackenzie finds herself at ground zero and having to pull herself up and make a life for herself. Maybe the key to it all is not thinking, it is in that moment Mackenzie applies for a job as a private chef on tour with a rock band. As frightened as she is when she gets the job, Mackenzie throws her heart into it.
The first time she meets lead singer Dean Johnson she thinks he hates her. She doesn't know the first thing about Dean but as she begins to find out more her whole opinion of him changes. If Mackenzie can move on from the past she may just find something special in front of her.
I loved Dean, he skyrocketed to favorite hero within meeting him. I wasn't sure about Mackenzie initially she kind of is a venter in the beginning but you get why, she is so afraid and had been so withdrawn with in herself she could barely function. I found myself wrapped up in a beautiful story and eagerly looking forward to more books from this talented author.
You know, it’s hardly surprising, given what Mac has gone through that she ends up in the state she does. I mean, she lived through every parent or partner’s worst nightmare.
And honestly, her despair simply seems to seep off the page at the start of the book. The lack of any desire to do anything more than simply exist is practically palpable.
I have to say that Mac’s journey (normally I don’t like to use that term – it’s overused) from tubs of ice cream to the person she is at the end of the book, is touchingly written.
I felt drawn into the story and connected with the characters. And, whilst I was frustrated by the actions of the characters, that is only because I felt invested in the outcome. Fortunately, on this occasion, I didn’t resort to shouting at my kindle.
It may seem somewhat incongruous, but this was an enjoyable read. I would happily recommend it to you, but a word of advice. You may need a couple of kleenex handy… you know, in case something happens to get into you eyes when you’re reading.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest reviw
The start of this book is heartbreaking! I can’t even imagine going through the type of loss Mac deals with. After years of just existing instead of living, Mac is forced to take care of herself after her dad dies. A second chance at life and loves comes along with a job as a chef for a band on tour. Dean is one of the sweetest rock stars ever! He is patient with Mac as she struggles to deal with her loss and move on, but determined to make her his.
As Mac deals with moving on with her life, she realizes what amazing relationships she has with her best friend Monica, her stepmom Priscilla, or Percy as she calls her, and her sisters. She also makes new friendships with the band’s crew members, Christian and Storm. This is a beautiful story of loss, friendships and love. Although this is book 3 in the series, it can be read as a standalone. I look forward to reading more from this author, especially Christian’s HEA.
I received an eARC in exchange for an honest review as part of a blog tour.

After surviving the accident that killed her husband and daughter Mackenzie is broken. Trying to deal with her grief she closes her heart off. That is until she meets Dean. Can she let go of her guilt to embrace the future?
I love Mackenzie’s relationships with the people in her life. Especially her best friend Monica. I also enjoy watching her friendships with the members of Dean’s band grow. I love how real Mackenzie feels to me. I can totally relate to her pain and grief. Sure it takes her time to heal but that makes me root for her all the more. My favorite part is watching how her relationship with Dean grows. It feel organic and real. Something books don’t always get right. My one issues is the book is written in first person. It’s very well done but I had a hard time losing myself in the book. Other than that it’s a great but emotional read.
4.5 stars This is my first Wendy Owens book and I wish I had read her before now. I read this book in one day, stopping only to eat and check that my kids weren't killing each other. The Luckiest is a heart wrenching story of love, loss and learning to live again. Each character has their own issues they have to deal with, all bringing the characters closer to each other while one helps the other see their way through. Their story will break your heart, make you cry, and atleast in my case, I understood completely how Mac could have shut down like she did for so long. I can't say what I want to say without revealing parts of the book and spoiling it for those who haven't read it yet. This is a well written book, with fantastic character development, the book flows well and never lost my interest at any point.
I received an ARC of this, and I'm so lucky that I did! I really enjoyed it! I read it in just a few short days.
**THERE MAY BE A FEW SPOILERS** (Sometimes I get carried away and don't realize I didn't summarize enough..)
I really like Mac and Dean's relationship. Mac had a hard time with losing everyone, and she struggled with moving on and living her life again, she boards a band bus and meets a bunch of people. I really enjoyed seeing Christian in this and knowing he was still thinking of Paige while they were seperated. Dean was so understanding, and he never really lost his temper. He was so patient and understanding. I just hated the length they spent apart before coming to their senses. The epilogue was AMAZING!
I received an ARC of The Luckiest by Wendy Owens. I seriously LOVED this book. If I could give it more than 5 AMAZING STARS, I would. I seriously couldn't put my Kindle down. I fell in love with Dean, he was so supportive with Mac and her tremendous loss. He took things slow and waited for Mac to come around. This book is very well written and I truly enjoyed it. The book had a very easy flow and kept my interest the entire time. The characters were well rounded and I could actually picture them in my head. It was also nice to have familiar characters from Wendy's other books, Stubborn Love and Only in Dreams, in this book. This book is truly amazing and does not disappoint. Great read!!
I received this book for an honest review. Such an enjoyable read. Once I picked this one up I was unable to put it down. This was such an enjoyable read because it is not your typical Rocker book. In the beginning you meet Mackenzie who is just barely surviving. As a person who feels like she is losing everybody she loves first her husband and child and just recently her father. After her father passes away she finds out that she needs a job and FAST. Enter Dean and his band who have hired her as their tour chef. Of course these wonderful sparks fly between them. I really enjoyed this because it showed how hard it is getting over losing someone in your life. That you do not just move on the next day. Also how hard it is to move on. EXCELLENT
Well congratu-freakin-lations Ms. Owens because you had me crying from the first chapter!!
Mackenzie Phillips is an amazing character. There is such a depth to her, and I felt her pain bleeding through the pages as I read. I cried with her, laughed with her, and sometimes wanted to strangle her... But most importantly- I understood her. Even though I have never experienced this kind of pain in my life (Thank God), Wendy Owens managed to help me understand it. And that is what I gained from reading Mac's sorry- an understanding I didn't have before.
This book is about loss, grief, and pain... But it is also about hope, strength, and second chances...
I can count on one hand the authors that I automatically one click their books without even reading what the book is about. Wendy Owens is one of them. This book was absolutely amazing....i am so in love with this sereis......Every book is so different but yet each one heartbreakingly fantastic. I have said it before but Wendy Owens could write the phone book and I would read it and give it a 5 star review. The journey of Dean and Mac is one every reader will love to be part of...and i just know Wendy will continue this fabulous journey of characters with Monica and Percy 's stories next...... (hint hint) :)
