This was better than I was expecting. The local bargain outlet had inexpensive copies for sale, and the manga-influenced style caught my eye. I figured it was worth taking a chance.

So John is an ordinary high school student. Which isn't ideal, because all of his fellow students have superpowers. The fact that he's friends with Seraphina, the most powerful student in the school, helps keep him from being picked on too much. Two important points: 1) someone is killing people with powers, and I'm sure it will become more than just background fairly quickly. And 2) John has a Mysterious Past (™), which I'm sure we'll be finding out more about as the series progresses.

Since this is volume 1, it's mostly about introducing characters and concepts. We get hints about the ongoing narrative, but we're basically just starting to climb the first hill of what looks to be quite the rollercoaster ride. I'm definitely interested in seeing where it goes from here.

This didn't have the deepest plot or create the roundest characterizations, but it was compulsively readable - the story, the world's quirks, and the mysteries and hints of conspiracies made for a really nice beach read action comic.

Thanks to the artist, publisher, and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

John is the real asshole here
Arlo>>>>>>>>>>>>>>John
Everyone else>>>>>>>>>>>>John

yesh as if randomly beating up people is gonna do anything.
John say 'all high tiers are arrogant and entitled and they abuse their power.'
Yes, I agree. 'All high tiers' includes John. Remi is right, John KNOWS that he is the strongest (after Sera) among them but still he too was quiet for two years when all this was happening. The only reason he's changing is because Sera is now getting beaten up too. He wouldn't have done anything if it was any other person.

Arlo is amazing. Yes, he does have his faults but at least he knows what he's doing. He finally understood and the character arc is 🤩🤩🤩

You know, I haven't seen Arlo lay a single hand on anyone at Wellston (maybe I overlooked it) but cant say the same for John. John is betting up innocents to teach a lesson to others on how the low tiers were treated. Isn't he doing the same thing? Beating up those who have a lower level than him brutally????

Arlo is cute🤓👀

Actually it's already season 3 which I started reading but because those additional seasons will only find their way by chance into GR, my rating is for the complete series up until episode 308.

Imagine a world where nearly everyone has a special ability and your status is determined by the power of the ability and your skill to wield it. Now just for a moment tune out your overall idea of such a world and focus on high school life - a life where the school's reputation is defined by the number of high tiers they have as their pupil, a life where it's not necessarily so that the teachers rank higher than their students, a life where inter-school turf wars are regulated but what happens inside the school stays inside the school. It's probably opening the floodgates for bullying and violent challenges to create a picking order.

That's the life at Wellston High and it isn't easy for those without power or a low skill. John's the story protagonist. He's new and pretends to have no ability. It becomes quickly clear for the reader that he probably would be able to dethrone Arlo, the king of Wellston High. It takes some time to understand why he's hiding his ability and prefers to spend more time in the infirmary than in the class room. Nevertheless he becomes best friend of Serafina who's even more powerful than Arlo but separated herself from the school system. A thread to that friendship and Arlo's need for rules and hierarchy leads to a disaster at the end of season 1.

What I liked was that all of the main characters are flawed. There is no knight in shining armor and even in the beginning of season 3 they are still no close-knit group fighting against the evil forces. The author allows all of them character development but even that is not straight forward. There is no Dumbeldore pushing John or the other high tiers into a preferred direction (there is the headmaster who has his own reasons but is far away being a father figure) and there is no group of rebels who they could join unscathed after it becomes clear that the authorities are not reliable.

UnOrdinary seems to have a concept running over several seasons and is no straight road movie going from one station to the next. There are detours, there are set backs and the main characters have their own story arc. Season 1 is a bit more than a superhero high school drama while season 2 is disturbing and an emotional roller coaster knowing mainly the way down but it's necessary as an eye opener for the characters as well as the readers. Latest with season 3 we're leaving high school life and finally the group has a chance to grow together because the world outside is not exactly more peaceful.

I can't understand GR policy of not adding webtoon stories (if they are not also published as a book) but: their platform, their rules - even if there is no valid reasoning. So I'm just happy that some found their way into GR by accident or by a lenient administator.

The webtoon is about highschoolers, superhero powers, hierary of elite, middle, low tier/cripples.

The plot involves John who is supposed to be a cripple in the stratified school hierarchy and gets beaten usually. He befriends Seraphina who has immense super power and is a royalty among the students.
But as the story unfolds, there are layers of mystery to John. His rude, confident attitude is just because of his friendship with Seraphina or there's some secret to his defying the hierarchy and changing the game?

The plot becomes a lil overstrerched by the end of the season evading the major turn expected. The characters aren't gripping enough. You can't even fully root for the MC here.

It reminds me a bit of Boku no hero Academia manga. I liked Sera style and Jhon hair Gel was a funny thing about him xD.

good characters and storyline but sometimes felt a bit repetitive/anticlimatic like the suspense wasn't built up enough to fit the action

*I've read everything up to date so a bit of season 2 but I'm counting it only as one read*

This was A-Maz-Ing I haven't been so invested in a series/book/movie or otherwise in so long. If you like Harry Potter, Marvel or Renegades you'll love this for sure. ( I think everyone here is familiar with at least one of these).

At its core, this book/webtoon is about John a cripple at the most prestigious school in the country ( world?!) where students can run rampant and terrorize anyone they desire. Everyone having a different status of magic ranging from 1-10 1 being magic less (cripple). Oh but it is so much more you gotta hang in there for a bit tho it starts picking up at around chapter 20.

*Can be read for free on Webtoon*

I've finished all the updates that are out and I can't describe how awesome this series is! I can't bring my self to give this a five star rating until all the updates are out, but of the 124 updates I've read I may have to come back and up the rating! Honestly I've never enjoyed comics that much but this one is absolutely incredible. In case your interested unORDINARY can be found on an app called Webtoon.

Read like a fourteen year old boy’s first attempt to write a shounen manga lol. Art wasn’t great, proportions were a little jarring and the backgrounds were dull. Then of course it turns out the main character has powers. Still finished it but won’t read the rest.

so here's a confession: i didn't really finish reading season one of this webcomic but i still spent a lot of my time reading 146 chapters of this so im still counting it. i won't accept any arguments today.

at first, i really enjoyed this but as the story progressed i just couldn't stand the protagonist anymore. must he really punch literally everyone he comes across with?? i don't think so. i spent hours binging this but i can't continue reading anymore because i have stopped caring about the characters. such a shame really.

¿Pero esto qué es? XD
Malísima historia, refrito de otras, el manido cliché de “escuela donde todos tienen poderes salvo yo….oh wait”, y parece que está dibujado con la prueba gratuita del clip art studio. Diálogos malísimos… ¿esto es un éxito?

John is a Zero, the only person without superpowers at his school. He spends his days trying to avoid bullies, and his only friend is Sera, an extremely powerful girl who used to be at the top of the school's food chain but who, for some reason, completely quit caring about being the best at everything after an encounter with John. When John isn't able to avoid his bullies, Sera is usually able to step in and either help or deescalate things. Unfortunately, the two of them are separated when it's discovered that Sera has a copy of Unordinary, a banned book about a person with superpowers in a world of Zeroes who uses his superpowers to defend those weaker than him.

Their separation puts a huge strain on John, who no longer has anyone around to watch his back. As he tries to deal with bullies determined to beat him to a pulp, cracks start to appear in his facade. What he doesn't realize is that one of his classmates, Arlo, has begun to suspect that he isn't who he says he is.

I wouldn't call this a very original series. It feels like a blend of My Hero Academia and Classroom of the Elite. The world-building is also a bit confusing. Does Sera have multiple superpowers? We know she can apparently stop and/or rewind time, but that doesn't really explain how she managed to slam the one bully into a building. Does she also have super strength? And it seemed like her classmates expected her to be at the top academically, as well, so does that mean super-powered intelligence or just generally high expectations?

Various schools fought for territory via battles between their top three students (the King, Queen, and Jack), with no sign that any adults had a problem with this. Readers also learned that there were a few people who, influenced by the book Unordinary, became vigilantes, protecting those weaker than them. It could be assumed that powerful people abusing their abilities was accepted as the norm in general society, not just as John's school. I have lots of questions about how a society like that might function, but I suspect this series is never going to answer them.

Still, I was somewhat intrigued by the storyline involving the murdered vigilantes, and I liked that the author seemed to be leaning towards turning Arlo into another one of John's allies, rather than yet another bully. Also, while I have some suspicions about John's true abilities, I'm interested to see where the author goes with him. Right now this series isn't exactly wowing me, but I'll probably give it another volume at least before moving on.

"No one is worthless"

Oooo this was such a good graphic novel, I enjoyed it. John kept getting beat up by everyone with powers just because he didn't have any. But when things start to unravel I understood more and more and wanted to keep reading . The art is nice and the characters look great.
