And....he's back! Seriously, Does Daniel Hurst ever sleep? Is he chained to his desk? Readers may never know but what I do know is that Daniel Hurst has delivered yet again with The Baby Swap!!! I found this book to be an addictive, gripping, thrilling, fast paced page turner! As with his other books, The Baby Swap is wonderfully written, well thought out, tense, shocking, and hard to put down!
The book begins as two mothers give birth and share a room separated by a privacy curtain with their newborns. A swap is made, and nothing will be the same ever again! Holy Moly! I love that Daniel Hurst was able to pull the wool over my eyes quite a few times while reading this book. Just when I thought I knew where this book was heading, he changed directions on me and left me with my mouth hanging open! I enjoyed the POV of both mothers and learning more about their backstories. The things I learned had my head spinning. Whew!
This book has quite a few twists and one quite a few reveals. There were several times I thought "What did I just read?". Seriously, there are some jaw-dropping and shocking scenes in this book. There is never a dull moment, never any down time, and never any slow parts. I was completely sucked into this book from the first page until the very last page.
I've said it before and I will say it again, if Daniel Hurst writes it, I am going to read it!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
Daniel Hurst does it again! This thriller is every parent's worst nightmare. Someone took your baby and left a stranger's baby in its place. Is this paranoia or harsh, unthinkable reality? The suspense is intense as secrets are revealed and emotions run high. Daniel Hurst expertly crafts a character-driven thriller that pulled me in immediately and kept me guessing after every shocking twist. If you are looking for an unputdownable, unpredictable thriller, The Baby Swap is for you. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy.
Two women give birth on the same day in the same hospital opposite each other one is a career orientated & married to Bobby, the other is just down on her luck struggling to live from day to day.
One decides to switch babies… why you say to get revenge!!!

Daniel Hurst has crafted another great thriller/suspense book with The Baby Swap. From the very first page, I was hooked, desperately trying to unravel the twisted motives behind the shocking baby swap. I must’ve had my mouth wide open so many times saying “what the heck?!” There were so many twists that it gave me whiplash! I thought I had the ending figured out but nope, surprised me as he always does. This is book #38 I’ve read of his and I already can’t wait for his next thriller!
It must be a Tuesday there’s a new Dan Hurst book to review 😀 I jest but the truth is this author could stand as the explanation for the dictionary meaning of the word prolific and it’s a good job 1.I read quick 2. he writes such good books
I read a comment by another fan who said this was, to date, their favourite by DH, mmmm I thought that’s a big say when there has been so much gone before….however I have to agree, this is one of the best by the author
All the usual elements are there that make his novels so addictive but there is a darker side to it ( I said that about another recent one but this is darker still ) more than a tinge of shock and raised eyebrows and feeling of disquiet
The title needs no further explanation but the reasons behind it are surprising, I loved the Devil, Prada ish vibe for a small part of the story and really felt for Jade ( Mum 1 ) and went against Avril ( Mum 2 )
I think as you read you will make your opinions and feelings towards each faitly quickly…..
Call out for Linda, Jade’s neighbour, she tried her best, ‘dowdy’ as she was
Do I need to say its again a Hurst masterpiece? Prob not
There were so many intriguing directions this story could have taken, but unfortunately, it fell incredibly short for me. The characters felt juvenile and, frankly, highly unlikable, making it difficult to stay invested. The central premise—the baby swap—was built on logic so flimsy it was almost comical, as if common sense had taken the day off.
That said, I did appreciate the quick chapters and the easy readability, which kept the pacing snappy. By the 87% mark, there were two chapters that decently surprised me, and I had hoped the epilogue would redeem things. Unfortunately, it was just as frustrating, and my irritation with the characters only grew. While the story had a promising setup, it ultimately didn’t deliver for me.
The Baby Swap by Daniel Hurst is about a baby swap, as the title suggests. The first word that comes to mind when I think of this book is 'disappointing.' This book had great potential, but sadly I feel it was over the top and too far-fetched. Throughout this story, we get alternating chapters of past and present, which reveal how the two main characters' paths crossed in the past, leading to the events that unfold in the present. For me personally, when I read a thriller I like it to be fast-paced and a bit of a page-turner, but unfortunately, I didn’t find much of either in this book. Of course, these are just my thoughts, so if you think you like this book then please don’t let my thoughts stop you from giving this one a go as you may love it as I’m sure many readers have. Although this one didn’t hit the spot for me, I will definitely still read more books by this author.
Typical D.H style, this story is short yet full of intrigue, questionable behavior, revenge and of course full of twists and turns.
The two main characters were extremely unhinged and quite frankly very unlikable. I wanted to know what bad behavior these two women would get up to therefore I kept on reading. It’s a fast paced story with a very satisfactory ending. Honestly I didn’t see the last twist coming at all…
I love Daniel Hurst. Can’t wait for his next book.
I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did Cheers 🍷
Introducing the best "Baby Swap" popcorn thriller ever!
From start to finish, this book was engaging, pacey, twisty, and unputdownable.
Although some portions required a huge suspension of disbelief, author Daniel Hurst did a brilliant job of recanting a super-compelling "Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold" story in the maternity ward.
I listened to the audiobook read by Tamsin Kennard and Lucy Paterson.
Both narrators gave superb performances.
Yet ANOTHER winner from prolific author Daniel Hurst!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of The Baby Swap by Daniel Hurst. This book truly was unputdownable! I was hooked from the very beginning and the ending was intense! The author does a great job telling the story from both points of view, and sometimes it was very difficult to figure out whose side I was on based on the character's actions. Although I did find myself wondering why Jade would not have come up with a "reasonable explanation" rather than admit fault when she thought no one saw her. The last chapter and the epilogue had me absolutely reeling the whole time and the author had a great closing to the book. It was an easy and entertaining read and I look forward to reading more from Daniel Hurst!
3.5 stars. Daniel Hurst is a relatively new author for me and I've been reading quite a few of his novels recently. His writing style is straightforward, with minimal description or fillers, making his stories very readable and fast-paced. His books have been mostly 3-star reads for me because while they do draw me in and are addictive, the plots are often implausible. The Baby Swap is no exception. While it was a quick and entertaining read, I didn't really like any of the characters and wasn't sure who I was rooting for. There were a few twists that I didn't expect, but I thought the ending was too convenient and OTT, and the epilogue had me rolling my eyes. But most readers seemed to love this one, so maybe I just need a break from this author.
This one started out strong then quickly unraveled for me and lost my interest. The premise was very intriguing to me at first but the more time went on it all became so far fetched and a bit silly. The characters were very immature and some of the things they said and did came across as extremely believable.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookotoure for the gifted copy . All opinions are my own.
4.5 Stars. As someone who has read quite a few of Daniel Hurst's popcorn thrillers I can confidently say this was easily my favourite! I was hooked from the prologue. I guess anything involving children is always high stakes for me and as the title suggests babies are swapped and the obvious question is why would anyone do that? As a parent myself I can't even imagine giving up my child so the concept is so shocking to me which is why the book was so gripping. Even though I didn't agree with the reasons as being good enough to warrant that I do have to say how much of a vile person Avril was. The 7 years earlier chapters were among some of the best it was car crash TV type reading. Love to hate what was going on there. The half star deduction to make it a perfect 5 star for me came with the ending which fell a bit flat. In the same way as I didn't agree with the reason for the baby Swap is also did not agree with the extreme lengths of the ending, but that's just me. A fantastic addictive read! Will be recommending this one a lot! Many thanks tas always to Bookouture who provided me a copy of this book via NetGalley for review. All opinions are my own.
The ending was good and I did not to see it coming. This is very fast paced and hard to put down. The pacing is really good. This is a really great thriller! Special Thank You to Daniel Hurst, Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you netgalley and bookouture for the arc of the baby swap by Daniel hurst.
Daniel hurst has become one of my new favourite authors. From the beginning to the end I was hooked. The epilogue was wild. Daniel hurst does amazing at telling the story from the different characters point of view. I would recommend this read to anyone. It was an easy, fast paced and entertaining read. I will definitely be reading more of his books 📚
Thank you NetGalley for providing me a copy in exchange for my honest opinion. I wanted to like this so much. The premise is great, someone intentionally swapping babies. So many great ways it could have gone, why, how, etc. but for me this just fell incredibly short. The plot felt predictable and unrealistic. The characters were highly unlikeable and felt very juvenile. The reasons for swapping the babies was so ridiculous I couldn't help but roll my eyes. The epilogue took me by surprise but even then, that character became even more unlikeable. Everyone just felt like Regina George's from mean girls. I think fans of books like The Housemaid would like this, unfortunately that's not my kind of story. I did enjoy that the chapters were quick and it was an easy read.
A wild ride down to the last paragraphs. Hurst takes us on another crazy ride involving two women, 2 babies and the game of revenge. What links each woman will go to get revenge on the other was CRAZY!
Dear oh dear. The two bonkers women in this should have black cloaks and a cackle. It would have made them more believable. Also managed to predict each turn ages before they happened. There are five star reviews on here so I don’t think I’m doing any damage. Grim but mercifully short.
The Baby Swap was a narrative alternates between the perspectives of two women, Avril and Jade.
Avril is portrayed as a successful career woman with a high-flying job, a great marriage, a beautiful home, and now, a new baby. However, after giving birth, she becomes increasingly convinced that the baby she brought home is not her own, leading to mounting paranoia and desperation. Her point of view delves into her growing suspicions and the lengths she is willing to go to uncover the truth.
Jade is portrayed as someone who feels trapped by her circumstances; living a less privileged life compared to Avril. When the babies are swapped, Jade sees an opportunity for a better future through her child, despite the unsettling reality of the situation. Her perspective explores themes of envy, desperation, and moral conflict as she grapples with the consequences of the baby swap.
Honestly, I side with Jade. If I were her, I’d also hold a grudge. Never underestimate or mistreat someone because you never know how it might come back to you. Im believe that those who mistreat others deserve the consequences.
The ending was so satisfying, and this book is full of plot twists that leave you completely stunned. Im really enjoyed this book and the unexpected twists that made the story captivating.

Oh my that epilogue???? What a wild ride this was, for how short this book is, I genuinely did experience every emotion under the sun.. don't get me started on the rollercoaster of picking sides my God ...💔 The question is how far would you go for revenge.... Plot follows two women and two babies... --- I will leave it at that ---
I've said this before and I'll say it again Freida has competition🤩 there's something about Daniel's twists that'll leave you questioning what goes on inside his head ( in a good way of course ) 😂 hands down one of my favourite thriller authors! Working my way through his backlist is an absolute treat!
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the arc it's always a pleasure to be one of the first to read Daniel Hurst's newest releases!
This story is mad. In a good way. It follows two women who end up next to each other in the hospital after giving birth. One of them decides to switch their babies as an act of revenge.
This is an easy, quick read, it’s fairly short and I sped through it across two days. I enjoyed getting to know each of the women and how they know each other / what happened previously to make one want to switch their babies. It is a story of revenge which gets out of control. At about 70% in I started to wonder what the twist was going to be - as so far it was pretty much as I expected it to go (but enjoyably so). The major twist comes right near the end, and it was pretty shocking, but I must admit I wanted some more twists earlier on. Overall I enjoyed the ending and how it all wrapped up - although it is pretty crazy!
Would recommend for anyone who likes an easy read thriller with a dark and shocking twist. This was my first read by this author and I’ll definitely be trying some more. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Read this the other night while sick and unable to sleep. Thought it was a bad fever dream with how ridiculous and poorly developed the plot was. My kindle reading history revealed it wasn’t a fever dream.
3.5/5 rounded down because I didn’t completely LOVE it ⭐️ I don’t have much to say about this one tbh! I found the history POVs of the 2 girls quite lacklustre, and it just wasn’t GIVING behaviour that one would feel they need to get revenge on in the future. I expected way crazier from Avril in those scenes. also was hoping to get a bit more history of jade and possible stalking with exs or just being crazy to others as well in her past. But I enjoyed the premise of the book and the characters were quite interesting in the present POVs. the twist I kind of caught onto about 75% of the way through before the epilogue even happened. so It wasn’t all that “jaw-dropping” to me. but overall decent thriller!
Baby Swap by Daniel Hurst was a slow burner. This book was written poorly. One of the main characters was very in part written to be a high profile but was unable to notice very straight forward things which would have ended the book by 50%. None of the twists were shocking. I would not recommend this book. Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free, electronic ARC of this novel received in exchange for an honest review.
Please if you see me reading another one of his books message me and tell me to stop 😂
Okay so they are a quick read, BUT there is just no substance so them, they end so abruptly and I am quite happy sunning myself with a cocktail on outlier island when it comes to Daniel Hurst 🏝️☀️🍹
Meh. Initially the story held my attention. The interaction between Jade and Avril was compelling, but then it became silly and not believable. Avril was far too smart to be fooled by Jade’s antics. And, I’m sorry, but to run into someone that you once knew, years later, with the name Jade and never say to her or yourself, “I once knew someone by that name” didn’t pass muster with me. I couldn’t accept Avril’s ignorance as being believable. Just no way. For as short as a novel this was there was so much narrative repetition. Lots of filler and no substance. And honestly, I had a very hard time reading about the abduction of a baby. Not sure what type of person wants to write that kind of story. There were times that I felt that Jades’s behavior was concerning and it hurt my heart. I love me a dramatic thriller mystery, just not one with babies. And the ending…..The stabbing……Really?!
This will hook you in from the beginning. It is a fast-paced thriller full of twists and turns that will keep you wanting more.
We get to follow Jade and Avril and the chapters are each told from their POV. One of them does the unthinkable and swaps her baby with another newborn baby on the ward. As the reasons for this start to unfold the author throws one shocking twist after another. We get to see a glimpse of the Past so we can start to understand how someone could make such a decision.
The author is great at making you torn about who to root for as just as you feel you are starting to understand, things are turned around. It definitely had me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next.
If you love a twisty, fast-paced thriller that is easy to read, this is the book for you.
With thanks to Bookouture, Netgalley, and the author for providing a copy of the book to review. This is my honest opinion.
