Niska Being sold to aliens on the seedy lower-levels of a space-station is about as terrifying as you would imagine. So when I get presented with the opportunity to save myself and my friends from the countless fate-worse-than-death scenarios that play out here at this end of the galaxy, I take it.
Even if it means agreeing to being strapped to a breeding bench for a huge, horned alien prince.
At least this way I know what I'm in for; a few months of sleeping with Prince Kiahn in exchange for freedom and a life of luxury for me and my friends. Plus, he's hot, so I'm pretty sure I'm ok about taking one for the team.
Kiahn I never wanted to enter a breeding contract. They were too dangerous. I might get overstimulated and hurt the poor female.
But then my Aunt goes behind my back and purchases the prettiest creature I have ever laid eyes on from the slave traders at the space-station.
book was so good, I immediately went to read the second one only to see it wasn’t out yet 💔
MAIN CHARACTER NAMES AND AGES Niska (?) | Prince Kiahn of the Northern Principality (?)
FEATURES ∘ alien romance ∘ “breeding contract” ∘ royal mmc ∘ mate bond ∘ thoroughly devoted and obsessed mmc ∘ fmc spoiling 🥰
REVIEW This book scratched an itch I didn’t even know I had. The worldbuilding was so interesting that I was annoyed when the biology lesson was interrupted. I wanted to know everything about the Xavianns and their history.
Kiahn’s immediate reaction to Niska and noble attitude made him easy to like. It’s true, I love to see an uptight man become a mess over a woman.
Niska’s use of birth control (without Kiahn knowing) had me stressed the whole book for when he finally found out, but I shouldn’t have worried! Kiahn understood Niska’s motivations, and Niska understood why it would’ve hurt Kiahn for her to lie. I appreciated how quickly they reconciled.
The chemistry and spice between the two were insane. It made the pages keep turning. I was disappointed when it was over because I wasn’t ready for it to end. Consider me locked and loaded for the next one 🫡
OW/OM DRAMA not really OM/OW — aliens on this planet have “permissions”, which are essentially holographic (but solid) clones of each other. both Niska and Kiahn use the other’s clone (first, Kiahn without Niska’s knowledge of what they are—she catches him in the act—and then she uses his permission while also being with the real Kiahn) | not really OW — Kiahn’s aunt encourages him to enter “breeding contracts” after he is done with Niska. We meet one of the eligible ladies, but Kiahn only has eyes for her CHEATING none THIRD ACT BREAKUP yes (quickly reconciled) ENDING HEA — near future epilogue
POV dual / first person SPICE LEVEL 4.5 / 5 RATING 5 / 5
3.5 stars There were elements I did and didn’t like about this book. I liked that Niska was a good friend and was playful and brave. I liked that Kiahn was a lil bit feral sometimes. I just didn’t feel the connection between them as much as I wanted to. And a lot of the storyline gave me the ick, mostly because he is trying to come off as a consent king but is so blind to the crazy levels of power imbalance between them. I like morally gray guys, but this was a guy who didn’t see himself as morally gray and that gave me the ick here.
Spice: 3/5
Triggers: enslavement, trafficking, forced sex work and associated SA, dubcon, cannibalism (off page, side characters), threat of being eaten, death of parent (past), mention of panic attacks, discussion of systemic abuse of women
I've never done this arc review thing, but I love the "Fated Mates of the Winged Barbarians Series," and when I read the sneak peak I fell in love with it so I HAD TO…
It begins with Niska, whom we meet through Polly's mention; an Earthling who, in a human trafficking situation, seeks safety for herself and her companions. However, due to outside interference, things with the male character take an unexpected turn.
I like that Kiahn is portrayed with an "innocence" ? Agh i don’t know the word for it but due to his family situation he is not smug –even if there are lots of females after him– neither is he like the trixikka… i also like how he tries to justify his desire for the heroine as a matter of "saving" her.
While it can be read as a stand-alone, I recommend at least reading the last book in the series mentioned above.
Trixi Dust (the "temple" offerings?) guess we will later know.
All in all loved It, is one of the few sci-fi books I don't want to end. I check the page count to space out my reading, since I don't want to finish it. I liked how the smut was gradual and not so fast paced, loved the simulator. The funniest has to be the “fertility” announcement. Omg and the breeding bench? chef kiss
But above all, I loved how the narrative continues to be about Niska and the whole human trafficking, that it didn't get swept under the rug for the male character and the whole "we love each other."
my favorite parts:
“I'll do it,” I tell them. “I’ll enter whatever contract you want me to… as long as you take my two friends off the slavery market as well.” If I have to fuck a hot alien prince to ensure me and my friends stay safe, I guess I’m ok with that.”

"My bride gets whatever she wants. A moon? A planet? Is that what you wish for, my little Niska? A planet in your name?" “I will buy you a whole fucking planet if you just let me-”

Very fun and spicy. I love a good alien romance, and even though I enjoy the whole not-able-to-communicate trope (which can take up a lot of a book), I liked that it wasn’t an issue here.
The FMC, Niska, has been taken from Earth, and the book starts six months later. She and two other women are kept together, and even though it’s awful, nothing truly bad happens to them—if you catch my drift. This is definitely not a dark romance by any means. Niska has to work a shift in a nightclub, and during it, she meets our MMC, Kiahn. They hit it off, one thing leads to another, and Niska ends up being bought by Kiahn’s aunt for him. He’s been against forming a marriage contract with anyone, and the aunt is hoping that Niska can open him up to the idea and that he’ll then move on and form more profitable marriage contracts.
The book is mainly spice, if I’m being honest, but the relationship still developed in a satisfying way for me. I maybe could have used a little more romancing, but it wasn’t lacking so much that it ruined the book.
There was a tiny third-act breakup, BUT it was tolerable and for an understandable reason.
This was a solid 4.5 star read. This book took spicy times to a whole new level with intimate holograms, breeding benches, the threat of a venomous bite and more. I mean phew🥵, did it ever get spicy at times. This book definitely had a slow burn feel to it at times both physically and emotionally. I loved getting to see Kiahn and Niska come together. While their romance had some push and pull to it and some ups and downs, I'm so glad that it ended on a happy note. I also have to note how much I LOVED Kiahn's brothers and Niska 's friends. Specifically Lois and Az, I can't wait for their story! I'm always a sucker for a grumpy/sunshine where the FMC is the grump. Overall, this was a fun, spicy and addicting read. I can't wait for the next book, which I'm thinking will feature Jaya and Kiahn's other brother.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and decided to start it as soon as I got my hands on a copy because it was one of my most anticipated reads of March!
This is my honest review!
I loved Niska and Kiahn’s story. Despite the environment they were in and the fact that they belonged to two entirely different species, they were able to find each other and make an effort to understand each other's worlds better!
The first chapters flew by in seconds, and I found myself suddenly immersed in an alien reality (not that I’m complaining)!
The setting was quite different from the one in the "Fated Mates" series, but I enjoyed both series a lot!
I discovered Melissa Emerald and her work at the start of this year, and her books helped me get through a long reading slump. She always seems to lift me up whenever I feel stuck in my own mind.
That being said, this book was no exception! It was a quick, funny, and easy read that I truly enjoyed.
The "Fated Mates" series will always hold a special place in my heart (and I can't wait for the next books!), but this book will make you fall in love with new characters just the same! I was even intrigued by some of the side characters' stories, and I can’t wait to uncover them!
So if you ever feel the need to take a breath of fresh air, I think these books could be perfect for you. In Melissa Emerald’s stories, you will always find a quick and very funny read filled with love, friendship, banter, and a deep emotional side that you’ll uncover piece by piece.
I really enjoyed exploring her world—the only sad part now is that I have to wait for the next books! I literally can't wait, and I really hope you all enjoy this book as much as I did.
The writing was pretty bad, and the plot all just felt like a setup for the smut. However, this book didn't even really have any. Also, I don't love it when a book tries to justify dubcon. I much prefer it when a book commits to how fucked up a forced scenario is, and that the H is a morally dark character because of it. Here, the contrast between h's grim life as a slave and how innocent and sweet the H was portrayed at just felt icky.
Plot: - h is a human slave on an alien planet. To pay off her owner's debt, she works at an alien brothel/hooter's? - H is searching for his brother, and saves her from some disgusting monsters. They're both surprised at the attraction they feel for each other, and H even goes the next day to purchase her, hoping to save her from a fate of a similar scenario gone bad. - However, the owner's husband lied that h was already sold in an effort to protect her. Instead, H's aunt offers to buy her, and if she's willing, she can entire a bride contract with H. h agrees if they'll also purchase her two other human friends and treat them all well. H's aunt wants him to have his first one and get over his fear or biting since that's how his mother died. She also provides h with contraceptives. - h learns that their species used to form lifelong bonds, but a past king started a widespread use of a bond resisting drug that resulted in future male generation's inability to form a bond with a female. The danger is that if a female is bitten, she will go crazy from the one-sided nature of it and die. to avoid this risk, artificial wombs have become the new default way children are born. Bride contracts are a way to have natural births, since thats the only way offspring can have the venom with power. - They're attracted to each other and go to a few bases in a lagoon and simulator. - When they arrive back at H's planet, h gets fucked in the breeding bench. Males try to desensitize themselves with the simulators, and the bench is to restrict movements to minimize the risk of biting. - H discovers the contraceptives and is hurt that h lied to him. - They reconcile and H bites her. It's fine thought bc she's already in love with him so it doesn't change anything in her brain chemistry.

All vibes rating folks and the vibes were fucking hot! I loved the plot-- it wasn't novel or even super deep but straightforward and purposeful- and every character was likable (well except for that one friend who is kind of a bitch but whatev). This has every romance trope that I love-- except no piercings but there's always a chance in the next books! omg and the biting.. this dude had it BAD. Super hot, definitely recommend.
YAY CROSSOVER - so well done, love the Easter eggs and crossover hints
Ahhhhh this WAS SO GOOD
Ok so - this ties in with the Winged Barbarians series. You should really read that series first and THEN this book. It makes this book’s Easter egg’s and information way more impactful. (Book 4 of Winged Barbarians and book 1 of Xaavia, which is this book, directly cross over)
And the Easter eggs were great!!! Ahhh. Love the little shout outs - and we FINALLY figure out what’s going on with that planet in the winged barbarians book!
Hint hint - If you read the winged barbarians - you’ll also find out about Niska’s bff.
But WOW! This couple!? So amazing. They had great chemistry. I only wanted to see some more “toughness” that we saw from the MMC in the beginning but technically he is a prince so it’s probably not how he normally handles himself lol. I also Honestly really loved the brothers and the human girls.
Zann sounds like a right mess and it explains sooooo much about book 4 of the winged barbarians 🤣 like SO much.
🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ the spice? Let me tell you - the simulator. The bench. Alllll I’m gonna say but phew 😮💨
Hated the cover but loved this book. So many fun and funny and sweet moments. I’m not super well-versed in this genre but holy 🔥 🌶️ 🔥 🌶️ that spice was somethin’ to a relative newbie like me. Recommend
DNF @ 78% I suffered through enough bad editing, tense changes and superficial characters and found myself force reading. I can already see the 3rd act break up coming and to tell the truth, I'm still traumatized from "Torkel's Chosen". I'd rather do laundry.
I have read all of Melissa Emerald’s books. I stumbled upon her books and had never actually read an alien/romance book before. I was absolutely hooked. I adored the Fated Mates of the Winged Barbarian series.
This is the first book in a new series and it was just as fantastic.
The FMC Niska is a human who’s been taken from Earth and is stuck living as a ‘human to be sold’ when she is working in an alien nightclub to ‘pay off a debt’ she knows she’s out of her comfort zone surrounded by creatures she’s never heard of before but when she stumbles into some series danger she doesn’t expect to be saved. Especially not from a 7ft, dark and broody alien man who turns out to be a Prince!
The MMC Kiahn is looking for his wayward brother but stumbles upon a delicious beauty of a human woman. He wants to save her from being sold and give her a chance of a life. His meddling aunt has a way to do that but will the ‘bride contract’ be enough to help her when his heart is telling him he wants more.
What I love about this author and her books are how gentle these giant men are but how they can turn when it’s time to get spicy in all the best ways. I love the journey the characters take, the relationships they build together and that these books are simple, honest, good romances.
Sometimes you want the girl to get the nice guy, for communication to be open and the spice to be spicing and that’s exactly what you get.
This is the 5th book I’ve given top stars too and I will always pick one of these books up! I hope both series continue because I love these characters and this alien world.
"The Bride Contract" by Melissa Emerald is an excellent first book in the 'Princes of Xaavia Series,' and I can't wait for more! It is a standalone crossover with the 'Winged Barbarians' series, which I also adored! I appreciated how the two series are connected.
The FMC Niska is sweet, gentle, and strong. I enjoyed reading about how she was willing to sacrifice for her loved ones; it added so much depth to her character. The MMC Kiahn is striving to be a good man (alien) while being totally obsessed with Niska. Emerald did a great job exploring the differences in money and power while progressing the romantic plot. I loved the spice and the overall story arc. The characters are fantastic. I can't wait for more!
The Bride Contract features Niska, human and Kiahn, alien. When Niska is kidnapped and sold by aliens, Kiahn attempts to rescue her. He’s unsuccessful at first, but Niska and her friends are essentially rescued and get to live on Kiahn’s planet, in his palace, as he’s a prince.
This was bonkers, but so good. I love an alien barbarian, but a technology alien is so much fun too. The gadgets in this book were great - a full lagoon on a ship? Love it. The simulator was great too.
I loved how gone for Niska Kiahn was. Give me an alien who is head over heels for a human every day. Niska was pretty great too.
My one critique is that the book felt like it ended too quickly - I just wanted more!
Overall, so fun and I hope there will be more from this author!
A Harry Potter reference in 2025? Also this author needs to get their money back from their editor (“outer-body experience” almost took me out).
I liked Niska quite a bit as a character for most of the story, but the rest (plot, science, romance, other characters, etc) really didn’t work for me even putting aside the fact that this is way outside my normal reading zone. Lying directly to a character’s face for quite a long time and then getting mad at them for having an emotional reaction to finding that out from someone else? That makes you a kinda shitty person.
This was a way cuter and in the feelings alien romance, than I was expecting it to be when “breeding bench” is a part of the description. Said bench doesn’t make an appearance until after 70%, fyi. I really liked the FMC and thought the main couple was cute together. The friction/3rd act break up/misunderstanding was so fast it was like having whiplash and I didn’t care for the fact most of the resolution and after was in the epilogue. Cute, fun, brain off read—especially with the typos and editing mistakes.
This book needs to be presented to all men and women as an official educational document for understanding consent and delicious horniness.
Thank you for your service, I will not be taking any criticism aimed at this book, I will, in fact, support any living fandoms for the characters in this book and I will light a candle and keep it lit until the day comes that I can read the story of Az and his little human.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, I always enjoy Melissa Emerald’s writing and this book was the same. I always think her spice scenes are very well written and with this book I thought a few of them were quite creative. I enjoyed the characters but not 100% sure I want to continue with the series, we will see!
It was such a good book and story 💫. I enjoyed every moment and can’t wait for the other books! Excited to see where the other brothers stories go next! 😍
A quick and very enjoyable read. An honest review in exchange for an arc. Every book Melissa has published has been devoured and is something I look forward to with much anticipation. Can never be disappointed!
MMC is a cinnamon roll prince that enters a breeding contract with the FMC after his aunt purchases her when she hears that he has finally shown interest in a female. FMC Niska is best friends with Polly from the last book and is joined by Jaya and Louis. Very entertaining to see Az’s pining for Louis and his desire to please her with earth things that make her happy.
The breeding bench. Spicy
Excited to see how the “goddess” comes in to play in the future.
