There was a lot to unpack with this book, with Selena and her clan stepping up and going to war, especially after how the last book ended.
Selena has collected her finale mate? I think. While her clan is being driven in all sorts of directions. She's done playing nice and hiding behind those she loves... wanting to be able to both defend herself, her children and her cubs.
Selena and her clan grew so much in this book, moving past jealousy to focus on what matters - love and safety.
While this book did end with a bang, I trust the author to give us the closure we need.
The series timeline says there's only 2 more books left of the series. I wonder how Selena and her clan will end the war on two fronts... and come out together/happy. Cause they deserve their peace and quiet. =(
Ok, so to begin with, I absolutely adore this series, and I am so excited to read them. I have alarms on my phone for release days. That being said, 99.9% of this book freaking love it. But, WTF with the ending! I certainly hope that is a cliffhanger and not the end because I will be pissed, and possibly cry or rage cry.
Selena and her family were enjoying themselves at the festival when the worst news broke out. Not just the Quaww declaring war, but them invading Aldawi space with casualties. Her constellation that was just stabilizing will be pulled apart as everyone has a role to play in protecting their people and their family. But underneath the battle there's something else, something insidious sneaking in. Something that wants what her genetics have unlocked. And they've taken hostages to fracture their opponents, those that would protect Selena and her unborn daughter.
Each new arc in the storyline adds something incredible to the saga. This isn't a fluffy quick read. It has drama but moments of happiness and bonding, too. The layers and detail make it something to keep returning to, to reread again and again, as you pick up on things you might have missed the 1st read through. She doesn't just collect mates like accessories, she has to feel a connection, a pull towards them. Something about each of them soothes and enhances her life. I'm curious as to how this newest bond will develop. Sure, he was dancing around the edges of her life even as they were drawn to each other. But deep emotions haven't caught up to where they are yet. And with that ending? Oof. What a way to keep a reader in suspense!
After a brief vacation Selena heads back to Destima to prepare for what’s ahead. War with the Quaww is looming on the horizon and the Verya are looking for Selena. All of her husbands have their own tasks from leading the war to guarding Destima. Selena is exhausted and worried and it is taking a toll on her and her pregnancy. As things progress Selena has her hands full.
This was an excellent and emotional installment of Selena’s story and I can’t wait for the next book to see how she handles all these situations.
