Oh, MAN, that was a ride! I'm not even sure where to start! J.F. Page wrote the stories in this book so well. I loved the parallels between Ava's and Grayson's backstories and seeing how they impacted each character, their choices, and their inner voices. Gray is one unhinged dude; I'd be terrified of him. As a reader, you're able to clearly follow the path both characters take towards each other and towards their respective character development. Nothing felt forced or awkward - except Ava and Emily's choice to order a ham and pineapple pizza for dinner. They could do better. But being pulled along Ava's and Gray's slow, intentional descent into their relationship was as delicious as you could imagine when pairing a book editor with an assassin stalker. The only things I'm left wondering about are 1) what Emily thinks of all this and 2) if Ava and Malik are now grand friends.
(P.S. - I do not recommend reading this book while ovulating unless you're stacked with pantyliners and/or extra unders. Fair warning.)

The book opens with both our innocent FMC and morally black MMC just going about their completely different lives. She is a book editor and he is a hired assassin.
A chance sighting and our MMC made sure their paths crossed. Our MMC was enthralled at first sight. Once he laid eyes on her, he couldn’t stop trying to get under her skin to make her see she needed him.
Throughout the book she is overcoming traumas and becoming an even stronger FMC while our MMC is staring to turn a little more morally gray.
It is shocking to know that this is J. F. Page’s debut novel. Their writing was wonderful and made this such an easy and enjoyable read. I am excited to read more!

This book, wow, it drew me in from the first word right up to the last.
Grayson and Ava, two characters, polar opposites, both from different worlds.
Until he catches sight of Ava, he becomes enamoured by her beauty, then and there he decides that she is his.
You see Grayson is a stalker and an assassin for hire. Ava is an introvert, a book editor who dreams of a life between the pages of the books she reads. How would these two work?
Grayson learns everything he can about Ava. Because in some way her trauma speaks to him, what started out as notes, turned into him becoming her protector, but what he didn’t anticipate was the way she softened his heart, they are attuned to each other, more so he’s there for her in a way others weren’t, giving her what she needs.
Love was never on the cards for both of them, despite there romance being one sided, but Ava had this need inside of her that she needed to explore, one that Grayson recognised, because as there storyline progressed, so did the growth in there relationship.
Because the spark that Ava lost, Grayson was the one to help bring it back, he knows his little bird is both strong and smart, a woman after his own heart. To handle his level of crazy, she needed a solid backbone and boy did she hold her own, because the praise and tension, you could cut with a knife.
I loved how both Grayson and Ava grew as people. That despite what they both went through in their lives they both found comfort in each other. They’re happily ever after on point!
Those smexy scenes were downright steamy, deliciously hot, sinfully wicked, dirty, spicy and depraved.

THIS BOOK! THIS MANNNNN!!! I LOVED ITTTTT!!!
It very much gives Haunting Adeline vibes, but on a different level!
Gray isn’t morally grey. He is BLACK! He is the monster in the shadows! He doesn’t do what he does out of the goodness of his heart. There is no redeeming qualities for the things he does….
Ava… she is his heartbeat and soul. The only reason his twisted monster shows any form of kindness, and even then it can be fleeting. She in some ways she has her own darkness, but it comes out in healing and strength. He pulls her from the shadows that haunt her life and helps her claim her power and finds safety in submission to him. He is her monster. Her safety. Her love.
He would and does burn down the world for her. Nothing will keep her for him. She is his everything. While he enjoys the pain and tears he causes her during their heated play, he enjoys making her happy with gifts, aftercare, and treating her like the princess she is to him.
If I ever wanted a true villain feel- this is it. Gray is it. Ava in some ways is a reflection of myself, and probably many others who have gone through abuse and being made to feel less than. Watching her reclaim her self worth under the care of this obsessive man who worships the ground she walks on was just perfect!
I sobbed during his softness, when he showed her that he 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 her and wanted to 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 her… Despite his darkness, his love and softness for her was immaculate !!

This book had me in a chokehold by the heart. My first impression going in was the vivid descriptive words and plentiful, beautiful metaphors. This heavy focus on creating a detailed picture continues all the way through the book. Never lacking in ability to imagine everything going on.
Right off the bat, the MMC is clearly a delightfully deranged stalker and assassin for hire. On the flipside, we are introduced to the FMC as a relatable, realist of a bookish woman.
The initial interaction between the two starts with menacing "love" notes that manage to be creepy as all heck, and yet...charming.
As the book continues, our MCs both grow as people - the MMC rediscovering how to soften his heart and quickly just "gets" the FMC and what she needs, while the FMC learns how to heal and push through her trauma and ultimately comes out as a strong woman with a backbone.
The PRAISE and TENSION throughout this book is droooooool-worthy.

From page one, I was hooked. Thrown into a world where a seemingly shattered, guarded heroine discovers she’s far stronger than the demons that once convinced her she was beyond saving. Watching her step into her power was breathtaking enough… but pairing that with a hot-as-sin, dangerously obsessed assassin who stalks her like she hung the moon? Yes, hello, I will be seated for this entire show.
The writing was chef’s kiss in every sense, it was sharp, clever, and detailed without ever dragging its feet. The humor landed, the emotional beats hit hard, and the spice? Let’s just say I needed to fan myself more than once 😏🔥
And Grayson?
Yeah… he’s being added to the book-boyfriend roster immediately. No hesitation. No notes. (Except for the fact that it is one of my friend’s daughter’s name 😬)

Ok... Gray started off a little deranged, but man.. did I warm up to him! Ava is just full of so much self doubt because of abuse she met at the hands of her father both physical and mental. And Gray is everything she needs to conquer that self doubt. He's an assassin who falls very hard for Ava and begins to stalk her. Terrifies her at first, but as she gets to know him, she realizes how perfect he is for her. When Gray is sent on a job with bad information to set him up, Ava becomes collateral. And what does an obsessed man do for his woman that's taken from him? He burns the world down. I loved the character growth in this story! Watching Ava come out of her trauma and grow into herself was great. But watching Grayson go from mad man to love obsessed puppy was heartwarming. This one needs to be added to your tbr. It was so good!

I really enjoyed this book! The character growth and development kept me hooked! If you like a dark romance with some mafia aspects then this is for you. Check the triggers before diving into it because it is pretty dark. Also, it is pretty spicy! At the bottom of this review is a quote from 3% of the way into the book. If you want to go into it completely blind like I did, then just skip the very last portion.
If you love stalker romance books with a villain you can learn to love, this is the book for you!

As soon as I started reading, I was sucked into the story. For everything that Ava was experiencing with Grayson with the "present", notes, and texts to name a few; I thought she had a fighting spirit.
"I want you to remember every time I touch you."
This is a slow burn romance. In fact, there is not a lot of physical interaction that happens for quite some time. Yet, I can assure you that it is worth the wait.
"Just one more kiss."
The story really does pick up the pacing about the midway point of the story. You are not going to want to miss this book. It is so good. The way that Grayson watches, plays, and stalks Ava, his Little Songbird is deliciously yummy. Ava is his, only his.

Absolutely LOVED this book! The way the author is so descriptive makes you feel like you are completely in the book. I felt like I could smell what she was describing AND picture it perfectly like I was there physically. The spice was 5/5. I at first didn’t enjoy the male character, Greyson, however, if you feel the same.. keep reading. I was on vacation during this read and driving my family nuts because any second I could read I couldn’t put this book down! When we got back home I actually started over because I felt like I needed to be able to read it in an unoccupied setting to really soak in everything happening.
The twists and turns, suspense, plot, characters were absolutely wonderfully written!
So thankful to have been an ARC reader on this one 🫶

Make sure you read the trigger warnings because this book may trigger you. There’s a lot of ups and downs, but also a lot of healing for Ava. Will Gray and Ava make this relationship work or will the dangers of Gray tear them apart? At first I thought this book was not some thing I wanted to read, however I gave it a second chance, and read more and realize that I had to finish this book. It got a lot better. I actually really liked this book highly recommend it.

Romance book editor Ava catches the attention of assassin turned stalker Grey in the window of a coffee shop and it's a wild ride from there! Gray has all the red flags we love in a stalker romance and the author did not disappoint showing his obsession. We journey along as they both regain parts of themselves lost to past trauma and somehow even though I kinda figured out what was going to happen for that ending - it was so much better then I imagined. Those last 10 chapters had me up till the wee hours finishing. This is dark, there's lot of triggers - so check those out - but a great read. And I hope we get Malik's story sometime in the future!

What do you get when you mix a bookish FMC and an obsessed contract killer? You get good time that blends together complete opposites but works.
I loved the dual POV in here and while our MMC is totally unhinged he was entertaining and I found myself rooting for him. The pacing was smooth, never went too fast or too slow, the spice was great, overall I really enjoyed this.

There’s a solid emotional journey the reader is taken on with this story— one of trauma, struggles and healing that adds so much more to this one.
Bit of a slow burn, but there’s so much world building happening that you’re not left wanting.
I do appreciate a good villain… & more than that a good stalker— Gray certainly fit the brief too.
Gray fell hard and fast for Ava, who was unpacking a lot throughout their story.
Highly recommend— I could prattle on about this one, but probably best just to give it a crack… I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Holy. This book had me in a chokehold. Grayson and Ava come from two totally different worlds but had a similar childhood. Grayson sees Ava through a window and falls for her! Then he stalks her. Oh. My. The things he says to her! The things he does because of her 👀. Grayson takes such good care of Ava in all the ways. Ava takes a while to trust Grayson.
If you like dark romance with a bit of mafia thrown in then this is the book for you!

Whew boy! If you like morally grey men, stalkers, dark romance and lots of spice - then jump on in. I actually really liked Grays character, professional career aside. Ava I felt could have been a bit stronger character in the beginning. However I really enjoyed how their similar pasts connected them, and we saw the lingering evidence of that. The story flowed well and the pacing felt good. The ending drama was maybe a tad predictable but exciting nonetheless. A great read that will keep you turning the pages.

Gorgeous story of a stalker and his dream woman... Ava is a deep and vivid character; as an editor she lives in the books she works on... until Gray sneaks into her life.
He's a bit of a monster but challenges Ava to grow. Who falls first? I tried so hard to savour this read and just could not stop. I will absolutely be looking for other books by this author, cuz this one is a banger!

I enjoyed the writing style to this book and how the characters came to life.
The characters were all quirky in their own ways. It was easy to read the book and not want to take breaks. If you like dark stalker romances with a possessive MMC you'll eat this story up. The story did seem familiar unfortunately so l can't rate it higher than I otherwise would.

The Songbird's Shadow had me hooked from the first chapter. This book pulls you into a world of obsession and suspense. The story follows Ava, a book editor with a haunted past, who unknowingly catches the eye of an assassin who becomes obsessed with Ava and is determined to make her his own—no matter the cost. This book is defiantly worth checking out!

I wanted to love this but it was just okay. As I was reading I unfortunately was bored pretty much the whole story. I felt as if so many things were repetitive. The last 20% or so did finally pick up and did draw in my attention more but after everything played out I was just bored again. I would still recommend this for certain people but for me it just missing more action.

This book will have you at the edge of your seat from start to finish. The two main characters bring so many emotions throughout the whole time you are reading. You root for their happy ending. This is not for the weak heart a lot of heavy topics. If you are looking for a page turner this one is for you. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

I read this in one sitting! I can't sing it's praises enough in my everyday life! I didn't recommend many of the darker books I read too people I know as they judge. But I will take that judgement everyday for this book! It was an incredibly amazingly beautiful written debut novel! A trophy copy will be going on my shelf!

My first Indie Author of 2026 did not disappoint! This book had me hooked from chapter ONE. The hardback signed edition with the personalized note from Greyson had me devouring every word that man said! FMC Ava, it's like that character was me.
Favorite quote: "No man will ever control me, we'll unless I want him to."

I didn’t expect The Songbird’s Shadow to pull me in this much, but it really did.
There’s something about Ava’s quiet sadness and the male lead’s dark, obsessive voice that stuck with me even after I finished. It’s intense, a little unsettling, but honestly hard to put down.
If you like dark, possessive romance, this one definitely lingers.

Beautiful story! It gave me haunting Adeline vibes which I absolutely loved.

This book was a thrill to read! Ava and Greyson were the perfect main characters. Seeing how they had so much in common when it came to their childhood was pretty significant. The storyline was spot on and I loved it. Totally hated Bianca though. Definitely worth giving a read.
