Burden

Rate this book
Ellen’s son hates her. Her husband wants a divorce. Her only solace is in her work.

A nightshift at the morgue turns sinister when bodies start arriving at an alarming rate. The drivers are weird, sarcastic, and seem to be playing some kind of game. The cadavers are even stranger.

With darkness closing in on all sides. Ellen must venture into a horrifying parody of her hometown to save her family before they’re lost forever.

Burden is a terrifying tale of guilt, grief, and betrayal.

Bizarro fiction is a contemporary literary genre, which often uses elements of absurdism, satire, and the grotesque, along with pop-surrealism and genre fiction staples, in order to create subversive, weird, and entertaining works. We read that stuff (someone has to) and then write publicly to one another here about the experience of reading it. If you join this group, you can too.

Trippy!

I had just recently finished Butchered, by Matt, which I thought was fantastic, and he recommended that I check out this one next. What starts off as a somewhat straightforward tale of horror, quickly morphs into something far more twisted and surreal, to a point that I wasn't really sure where this would go. After quite a wild ride, the story cleverly comes together and ultimately all makes sense.
I'm looking forward to reading more of Matt's work, I think Teddy will be next on my hit list.

Short and Sweet!

Absolutely devoured this in one sitting. I'm a huge lover of Silent Hill, so the inspiration definitely landed with me. The ending hit harder than almost any book I've read this year!

A solid and atmospheric horror tale, reminiscent of Silent Hill and The Mist.

Brilliantly done!
