** “An anxious soul is like a tornado of worry and what-ifs swirling at breakneck speed on a highway of destruction — able to shatter your confidence, splinter your relationships, and flatten your faith. But what if an anxious soul wasn’t a terror to hide from but an opportunity to draw closer to God?” **
Becky Keife provides a delightful resource in battling anxiety with “A Verse a Day for the Anxious Soul.”
Anxiety can be an enemy and roadblock to our faith, and verses about anxiety often feel “like words of condemnation to my struggling soul.” But Keife reminds us that God can use those moments of anxiety to draw us closer to Him and experience His great peace.
She offers many very personal situations of her own, revealing her own struggles, to expand on each verse, as well as biblical examples like the blind man that Jesus healed.
The books contains 100 verses, each accompanied by a very short devotion and a simple exercise to literally and physically inhale truth and exhale trust (for example, Inhale “God works everything for my good” and Exhale “I will look for his purpose and beauty,” accompanying Romans 8:28). Each devotional then ends with a brief prayer.
Sprinkled throughout the 100 verses are 14 “Peace Practices” (Move, Connect, Journal, Cry, Get Outside, Hug, Rest, Laugh, Engage, Unplug, Serve, Give Thanks, Refuel, Pray). These are practical tools to help you shift from anxiety to peace and calm, with practical actions you can take (like hugging, crying, moving around), with a supporting verse for each practice.
Those looking for sources to combat the anxieties in life, whether they be common-day anxieties or chronic, mental health issues, and find God’s peace will find “A Verse a Day for the Anxious Soul,” which is due out Oct. 28, an incredibly helpful resource.
Five stars out of five.
WaterBrook provided this complimentary copy through NetGalley for my honest, unbiased review.
This book provides 100 daily devotionals that share insights into the author's own anxiety and how God can help us through these situations. The stories are grouped by 14 actions (e.g., Connect, Rest, Serve) with Bible verses and prayers woven in. I really liked that this came from a Christian who lives with anxiety and depression as the passages felt authentic, with real useful advice that always draws us back to God and His Word.
Favourite insights: - "Rest is not a hindrance to achievement... [it] is a vital part of being productive." -"Fear and anxiety are obnoxious cousins. But they’re not your family. You belong to God." -"There are times to push through, and there are times to rest" -"God loves you and is eager to take care of you." -"God isn’t saying, fix yourself. He’s saying, fix your eyes on Me... We don’t have to be in control, because God is." -"The thing that got you stuck is not too hard for me to untangle. I will always come to your rescue. There isn’t a mess too big or pit too deep for my rescuing love to reach." -"Maybe healing looks like feeling the feelings and asking Jesus to sit with me in them." -"You don’t have to convince God that your struggle is real."

A Verse a Day for the Anxious Soul by Becky Keife.
This was a lovely and anxiety-relieving devotional for those of us who struggle with the stresses of life. This book was full of short but effective devotionals that were great for any time of the day: first thing in the morning to get your day off to a calm start, in the middle of the day when I personally find life the most overwhelming, or bedtime as a way to relax and drift off to a better night's sleep. Each chapter starts with a verse for the day (or the moment, as I've read multiple chapters in a day at times). Then, an anecdote or discussion that does a really excellent job of putting some things in perspective. Next, a breath prayer (my favorite part) and, finally, a written prayer.
5/5 stars. I appreciated the author's genuine and bible-based approach to dealing with anxiety, stress, and overwhelm. Non judgmental and with practical tips that actually help. I will be purchasing copies for myself and as gifts.
Thank you the NetGalley, Becky Keife, and Penguin Random House Christian Publishing for the opportunity to read the eARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

This book is obviously written by someone that knows anxiety and also knows what to say to help others. It is written from a Christian point of view, using verses from the Bible and then has personal thoughts/stories associated with the verse.
It is a beautifully written, and a wonderful tool to calm an anxious mind. When life is overwhelming, these daily verses and thoughts can be a healing balm. I have been searching for something to help me and I have found it in this book. I will be reading this often in the future. It actually feels like a caring friend is talking to me.
A sincere thank you to Penguin Random House Christian Publishing | WaterBrook and NetGalley for giving me the blessing of reading the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.
I resonated with so much in this devotional and it gave me the ability to feel seen, confirming that I am not alone in my struggles with anxiety. As a God loving woman who has walked through anxiety herself, Becky does an amazing job showing the reader how to bring the weight of anxiety back to the Lords feet. When I was first put on medication for my anxiety I felt so much guilt and was pierced with the fact that something in me was broken. I love how Becky put this exact feeling into perspective and helps us to find - The Beauty of ‘And’ - This is a great read for anyone who is looking to find a way to bring their anxiety to the Lord.

This book is where peace and stillness meet the unrest of our days. Having wrestled with her own mental health, Becky is a well-equipped voice for the journey from chaos to calm. Each chapter includes a scripture, an insightful bite-sized devotional, and a prayer to help readers connect with the Source of calm. I especially like the 14 peace practices included throughout the book--as they are simple, practical, and easy to engage. I highly recommend this book as a practical invitation to soul rest.
This book came to me at exactly the right moment. While reading Becky’s words, I began to feel like I wasn’t alone in this struggle and encouraged that hope lies ahead of me. Truth from God’s Word included in this devotional was understandable and enlightening. I also appreciated Becky’s real world wisdom and experience.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

One of my favorite quotes from this encouraging read is, “But through the noise of my shame, I hear the voice of Jesus, who keeps gently reminding me that He is the God of abundance who isn’t put off by my barely. When I’m barely holding on, God is abundantly able to hold me.” I am so thankful that Becky reminds me of truth from scripture. She shares how to pray short truths from scripture called breath prayers. I would recommend this devotional to anyone who has anxious thoughts.
