What Did I Just Walk Into?

This is not a casual little “one more chapter before bed” situation. This is a full scale emotional deployment. One month after the Scratch 'n Sniff outbreak, the world is pretending things are fine again, which of course means everything is absolutely not fine. The miracle cure is rolling, the PR machine is humming, and Nick Ritter has entered his Villain Era for Justice.

The War Saint feels like the part of the trilogy where everyone finally pays the tab they have been running since book one. Hit lists, FBI pressure, family unraveling, faith cracking, and one man determined to drag the truth into the light even if it burns him down with it. Cozy, right.

Here’s What Slapped:

This is a proper trilogy finale. Threads from The Posh Prepper and The Dread Merchant actually land, instead of waving sadly from the background.

The cast is huge, but somehow still feels manageable. Abby, Brian, Zoe, Tracy, Dana, Mikey, Nick, and Monroe each get their moment in the blast radius.

The prepper and crisis planning details still feel satisfying, so you get both emotional chaos and tactical brain candy.

There is a nice mix of faith, doubt, and moral gray that keeps it from being just gunfire and viruses. People wrestle with what kind of humans they want to be at the end of the world.

What Could’ve Been Better:
Six hundred plus pages is a commitment. If you like your apocalypse short and punchy, this is more deluxe binge than snack.

The emotional and moral weight is heavy. This is not the book you pick up when you want a light little outbreak romp.

Perfect for Readers Who Love:
Prepper thrillers with heart and spreadsheets
Pandemic and conspiracy fiction with messy, believable people
End of the world stories that care as much about family and faith as they do about firepower
Seeing a trilogy actually stick the landing

Note: This is a review of the audio book

This trilogy started with the unique concept of the "posh prepper" and his found family trying to survive and thrive in a world moving toward destruction. I became invested in the characters from the beginning and along the way new favorites were introduced. The narrator was excellent and I enjoyed listening to their voice in this audio book.

The main character Nick has really become a full on action hero at this point. Not only smart and resourceful but risk taking and self sacrificing for the greater good and for his family. New enemies and plot is introduced in this 3rd book and leads to unexpected twists and turns. The action moves fast! I loved how this 3rd book ties up loose ends but also creates more drama, more characters to wonder about and root for. Even when I'm mad at a character (Tracy!) I still love them and understand why they are acting that way. I fully recommend this book and this series for anyone who loves character driven action packed stories!

Sad that it's over, but happy we were there for the ride

I really, really loved this entire series.

If you're into post-apocalyptic fiction, this isn't the run of the mill, same story told over and over again. The virus is different, the people are different, hell, even the preppers are wildly different, and I really like that.

Without going into spoiler territory, I can leave it at this: This is the single greatest break-out series from a new author I've ever read. Mr. Knight has created a realistic, near future universe, with a very human, fallible central character. This universe could easily be built upon with new series from different POVs set at a later time, or left as is. There are no aggravating loose ends or abandoned plots.

It was the ending I wanted to read and hear all along.

Posh Prepper planning for hope

Wonderful finish to the Posh Prepper!
From satisfaction in a job well done as an employee, to enlightenment, the truth about his employer, his government, & others, to the fight to reveal truth, evidence, find justice, seek & nurture freedom, to understanding good & evil are entertwined. Brilliant storytelling.

Amazing storytelling

Hooked on apocalypse stories, they all follow a bit of a formula...crusty elder, spunky teen, handsome hero and wounded, beautiful heroine, not to mention evil villans at every turn. Posh prepper takes the formula and explodes it into an amazing, exhausting and triumphant tale. Worth every minute of sleep deprivation.

hard to put down

This was a fully immersive trilogy. Thankfully I got to read them all together instead of having to wait. One crisis after another and a satisfying ending.
Characters were fleshed out wonderfully and I did not want to stop reading until the end. Thank you. What’s your next project?

Really enjoyable read, stayed up too late a few nights til I finished the trilogy.

Unique in prepper books, an interesting premise, intelligent perspectives.
