I’ve been waiting all my life for my fated mate, but when she shows up on the eve of a war with questionable motives, my world is quickly turned upside-down by the young, feisty redhead who is far too good at pushing my buttons. I’m a control freak, and Serena is as wild and uncontrollable as they come. She’s also hiding something, and with a fight on the horizon, I’m not sure if I can trust her. Fate wouldn’t finally give me a mate only to have her betray me... right?

Alpha Reid is book five in the Six-Pack Series, a collection of interconnected paranormal (wolf shifter) romance novels. While this book ends with a HEA for the main characters and no major cliffhangers, there are some overarching storylines that may not be resolved at the conclusion of this book because they run throughout the entirety of the series. As such, the books of this series are best read in order. These books contain mature content (steamy scenes!) and themes that may not be suitable for younger readers. If frequent use of profanity and f-words offend, then these books may not be for you.

Im going to be completely honest. This wasn’t my favorite book in the series. It took forever to read through it because I was honestly a little bored. Reid is great and all but it’s too clean cut, cookie cutter, none bad boy 🤷♀️ The best part of this book is the battle scenes. It’s well written, has a good plot, and is a necessity if you are planning on reading this series. Just Reid bored me unfortunately. Can’t wait for baby alphas book though!!
5th out of 6th book but then there are 2 more connected in the series that I recommend. This author is awesome and one of my favs. The story just gets better with each book.
Recap: Serena is a survivor after being captured and tortured by the Shadow pack, she thought everyone in her pack and family was destroyed but when she stops screaming at the torture her captors inform her some of her pack and little sister are alive. When she doesn’t believe them they reveal her sister and she is made to listen to her being tortured. When Serena can’t take it anymore she gives in and agrees to be their spy if they promise freedom to all of her pack. When she is released/“gets out”-what she tells Reid, she then runs into Alpha Reid and the six pack, but what she didn’t plan on was to find her fated mate. Serena is so confused and feeling things she never has before. Reid can’t believe he has finally found his mate and now that he knows who she is he will protect her always. The other alphas and Fallon are a little weary at first but trying to trust Reid’s judgement. The girls decide to go out for ladies night at the Stillwater Tap, and the guys join of course. Everyone is trying to get to know Serena and the drinks are flowing and the girls head to the dance floor. Chase and his friends are there celebrating Chase bday, and when his drunk friends tell her to do a body shot she is feeling rebellious and as she hops on the bar Reid flashes over and is about to fight Chase. Chase admits he had no idea and Serena gets down and they leave, we see that she likes being punished (spanked) which he promised her last time she did something reckless. Tensions are high. Serena doesn’t believe that at first he will protect her so she makes the call and has to retrieve a package at the border. When she goes to get it Fallon catches her crossing the border. Serena covers herself with not knowing the borders since she’s new but Fallon is very suspicious. She retrieved flash drive which she needs to plant into the IT system somehow. She apologizes to Chase and they smoke a j together, the 2 new/ “outcasts” stick together as they are saying. Her connection with Reid is growing every day and every touch and they can’t fight the connection. She has a great girls night with Quinn and Brooke, but when they are asleep she plants the virus. Thankfully she didn’t hit a main hard drive and they didn’t get anything but now everyone is looking at Serena. She continues to deny even when Fallon almost loses it on her, she’s kinda protective of who she loves. Reid agrees to talk to her and keep her in the house until they determine the breach…the next day Astrid comes to see Serena, since she has visions, she tells her that she knows about her sister and she needs to come clean with Reid, because if the 6pack will win they will be together. Even though she is scared to lose Reid, Serena tells him everything, and to her surprise he loves her more. They are going to use her ties and be a double spy, and tell them a section is open but the 6pack will be there to attack. The night before the battle Serena and Reid mark each other and do a blood ceremony to have a mind link during battle. They are mates for life and will fight for each other and their packs and families. The battle happens and as the front lines get taken out by the 6pack easily, but then after protecting her town and the little boy Liam with Fallon, they see Chase mom about to attack him. At a last second save his dad saves him but dies in the process by his own mom who abandoned them. She goes to attack Chase but Fallon and Serena save him and she kills her. They get Chase out of there and then the Alphas see Xavier on the hill with his leaders. They bring in a secret weapon, Brooke and her wild wolf, and they fight them all off. Gray takes the last blow and kills him, but that isn’t the end of this battle. Next they have to find the captures, and they do, but when they breach not everyone cares that their leader is dead they believe in what he wanted. They save Olivia (Serena’s sister) and her pack and get them to safety. They know they still have ppl to hunt down that believe in Xavier’s true alpha bloodline bs. The squad will have to form new plans for a hunting force but also keeping the squad for security. They barry Chase dad and he is not doing well, which is understandable but the other Alphas are trying to be there for him and so is Serena. Even though he jumps down her throat at the funeral out of anger and stress, they make up and she is there for him if he needs it. Olivia is processing her situation but Serena doesn’t want to push too much but as she is processing she knows she needs to also to heal. His boys are there for him but that means partying and whatnot, when he needs to lead his pack and be the alpha they and his dad knew he could be, it’s just going to take time….next book.

I really adored Reid , out of the six pack Alphas , he was a bit of an enigma, silent, understanding, a bit closed off. I loved the books thus far. But there is something superficial about this story concerning their enemy , following up from the previous books. The shadow pack had been kidnapping and killing off other shifters / packs and the Six pack Alphas were working on building a squad pack to go up against them together with the Denver pack. In comes a shifter , Serena, who trespasses one night, triggering the alarm system. She was kept hostage for 6 weeks by the shadow pack. She swoops in, withholds information and is Reid’s mate. She snoops around, has no regard for the mate bond and yet no one seems to ask her questions concerned about her being fragile and so innocent , whilst she is so antagonistic and contrary, clearly having something up her sleeve. The Alphas are naive in this book as they went toe to toe with the shadow pack before, are on the brink of war with them, yet they are too afraid to even ask her for intel, respecting Reid’s wishes not to, whilst Serena is just acting out as if nothing bad ever happened to her and clearly has her own agenda. The Alphas not doing their job disappointed me the most. Alphas are responsible for the safety of their pack and they seemed all in denial, trying to let her come herself with information, letting her take the reigns. ( but I guess there wouldn’t be a story otherwise I guess) Eventually she caves, after being caught red handed and all is forgiven and forgotten, and the war can begin. Setting up a good hook for the following book n the series. I lacked a redemption arc like in Alpha Theo, which was worked out thoroughly , with good conversations between the characters. Here the story line felt thin between the characters and the romance between them was translated into Dom and Sub, which I found odd. This is a book to read continuing this series , though definitely not the strongest in the line.
This book is like a turn in CJ Primers writing. It becomes more dark, twisted and the conversations between the ( mated) couples are not as worked out as before. She evolved more into this direction with a great following for readers in this more darker genre. Good for her, I love CJ Primer , yet , I feel bereft of a romance writer, that put the six pack on the map , and gave them their HEA.
3.5 // There’s some good moments, particularly with Reid, but i don’t feel the emotional moments as strongly as some of the other installments. However Reid might be my favorite among the men thus far in the series. Which tracks considering I like the serious, silent type who oozes control…until he doesn’t.
The FMC suffers multiple tragedies but it never really feels like that info fully makes it out into the open to Reid (and the others). So much of it is revealed to us in her head.
Still too much repetition in the writing. This author is adept at saying the same thing repeatedly with different words, usually in the character’s internal monologue. We don’t need to rehash info we’ve already read.
Incongruity with regards to time. She often refers in the plural when that’s not the case; like she needs to make the weight of everything more. Then just lengthen the timeline. Don’t say “months” when we haven’t reached two of them yet. Don’t say “days” when it’s been less than 24 hrs. These are amateur mistakes a good editor (or beta team) could have caught.
A lot of time spent int his series on “getting ready” scenes. Unless it’s crucial to a scene or the character, we don’t need explicit descriptions of what a character is wearing. It’s just filler.
All that said, there’s a good story there. The plot is exciting and interesting. You can see the author plotted it well.
Alpha Reid is just an absolute sweetheart. He wasn’t like the others, all of whom seemed to have a bit of a short fuse but Reid was always the calm, responsible, level headed alpha and this book just showed off what a great guy he is in general!
What can I say about Serena… this girl has been through it! I totally understand the reasons behind her turning up at the pack house and god this girl just wanted to save her sister.
She really grows so much in this book and I’m sad she didn’t feel she had any other choice but to do what she did. This book also showed all the alphas are super understanding and kind which we already knew but damn.
The war with the shadow pack comes to a conclusion but damn there were some twists I did not see coming. I won’t spoil it but damn it pulled at my heart strings and I got a little tear in my eye.
Chase was mentioned much more in this book but I still don’t like him. I understand his actions and why he acts out and does what he does but right now I don’t like him. Unfortunately I will have to read chases book for the conclusion of the shadow pack etc but I’m not looking forward to it. I hope I cam change my mind about him though.
This series gets better and better and I hope I am not disappointed by the final book
I tried so hard to wait to read Brock’s and Reid’s books until closer to when Chase’s was coming out because I didn’t want the story to end or my time in the world to end but I couldn’t wait any longer. I am so in love with Reid. I love his demeanor and how he acts. He is such a gentleman and deserves the whole world. He’s been waiting for his mate for so long and after so many full moons he's debating on taking on a chosen mate to help lead his pack. Then we are bombarded by his new mate who is amazing! (I love her so much). She comes to the pack at a coincidental time and the whole security squad and the six pack are trying to figure out if it's purely coincidence or if there’s an ulterior motive. We learn about her and why she behaves the way she does and the spiciness between her and Reid was TOP NOTCH. It was hot, hot, hot, reading their exchanges! There is a huge battle in this book too and two huge plot twists I was in love with. I am in love with their story and cannot wait for more. I love their cute little date nights in, their firiness, and their chemistry. I think that their love story was so good and I wish I could read it for the first time again. I definitely recommend it!
Serena was in the right area. She was dropped off near the six pack territory. She had a mission to accomplish. This was her only chance. A border alert went off, Reid said he'd go and check in wolf form. It was a full moon and he already did a pack run. When he caught a delicious scent, he couldn't just ignore. When he caught sight of her, the mate bond snapped into place. The shadow pack was going to attack the six pack territory, they all knew this. A war was coming. Reid was highly suspicious of Serena. She said she was lost, held a prisoner of the Shadow pack. Reid also couldn't help the attraction to Serena. The fate bond was intense. Serena felt it strongly as well.
I took a break after book 3 for two reasons - 1/ I didn’t want to read Brock’s story because I knew he was going to be my favorite and I didn’t want it to end, and 2/ the repetitiveness. Not yucking anyone’s yum, it’s just, the stories are very lather, rinse, repeat AND THAT’S FINE. It obviously works for a lot of people because each book has such high praises. And ya know, the overarching plot is actually exciting as shit.
Anyway, the three stars are for Brooke’s unhinged bat shit crazy wolf. AND HER FURY FINALLY BEING UNLEASHED UPON THE WORLD LIKE THE CRASHING OF A THOUSAND WAVES! BEGONE VILE, SHADOW FILTH! BEGONE!! HER RAGE IS UNTETHERED AND IT KNOWS NO BOUNDS!!!

There are absolutely no words, CJ does it again. This is the fifth installment of the Six pack series and seriously my new favorite (I think I say that about each new book), but they seriously just keep getting better. CJ does an amazing job bringing these characters to life with just the right amount of action, romance and smut (seriously hot scenes). If you’ve had the opportunity to read the first 4 books, I highly recommend Alpha Reid, as you follow his and Serena’s journey to becoming mates and saving what’s left of her pack.
I just love Alpha Reid, he is so understanding, loving, romantic and a real gentleman. But he is also dominant, hot and has a reckless side that Serena definitely pulls out of him. Serena is feisty, strong and mischievous. She is also closed of, but Reid does get her to open up. Their relationship goes through some hard stuff, but they never give up on each other. That makes this love story so beautiful. Let's not forget the smut. The scenes are hot and oh so spicy. The fire and the passion just radiates off of them! Can't wait for the story of Chase.
Well this is not my favourite book of the series, took me awhile to read this one. There doesnt seem to be the humour that was in Jax or Theo and I found it hard to relate to him. The storyline fits in with the rest of the six pack series and we finally get the battle with the rogues and in wolf form.
There is chemistry between Reid and Serena but I found it hard going even though this is the only book so far where the leads know they are mates from the beginning. Its still worth reading and can't wait to see what is in store for Chase as we get to see more of him in this book.
Enjoy this series recommend it. However, Little disappointed it's moved towards dark romance. It's frustrating I try hard to avoid the whole choke and hate sex.... so when I start a series and it's romance with a Dom male lead, I can deal with that but .... then by book 4 it's like it's changed genre - It makes me want a refund on the rest of the series. I don't know what happened to just nice descriptive romance. And why are they both called romance? It completely sours the romance for me. The rest was good but now I'm reading just to finish
This book in the series has the best sound track! I love it!! Really enjoyed this book it was a really good story! I like how they have all been happy endings yet they are all different stories. It would be easy to write the save paths with different characters I’m glad they have a different dramas in there lives!
Can’t wait to finish the 6 pack series with alpha chase when it gets released in august (don’t like waiting for updates on apps I prefer to have the whole book)
Least favorite in the series for me. Reid seemed to differ from the character that was introduced earlier in the series. I was not impressed with his mate. She seemed immature. Kept reading the series because I wanted to find out more about the other characters and how the story would wrap up. So glad I suffered through this one to get to book 6.
This one was just superficial. Something was off. Reid probably was my favourite but the book was a let down. The whole thing just wasn’t exciting. It was just there. Serena was just okay. I’m not big on imposter syndrome too much. Nothing was in depth. I finished it because I wanted to know what happens with the shadow pack.
This book is Amazing so far!!! Seriously! I don’t how CJ does it!! But gosh please keep the series coming!! Only have up to chapter 28 released so far but it’s spectacular already!! Nail bitting but spectacular!!
The 5th instalment of this series. It was full of a few twists and turns and once again CJ left you on your toes. Didn’t enjoy it as much as Alpha Brock which is still my favourite. Can’t wait for Alpha Chase’s release!
Eloquent writing, such clean story telling. Chapters are filled with alot of interesting plots amd twists. Sadness, betrayal, hurt, forgiveness. A wonderful author
I'm so happy that Reid finally gets his mate!! And Serena is a rockstar, her story is awful but she is absolutely amazing! Their relationship starts off rocky but they become even stronger because of it. ❤️❤️
This book… fantastic! There were many times I had tears running down my face because of how sweet these two are. This will definitely be added to my favourites list of books I have read. Time to find me a real life Reid!
It was an okay read. It was of course part of the same world and same characters. I expected to love this book more since it was Reid. But I found his mate a little annoying at times. She definitely reminded me of Fallon. I’m glad we got to the climax of the war. About to start Chase’s book!
The fifth book in the six-pack series is another amazing story from the author. It’s so easy to get lost in the characters and their story. I enjoyed reading this so much!
This series was amazingly written with epic storylines that flowed through all 6 books. The author was descriptive and left you on the edge of you seat at times. Plenty of character growth and boss bitches which we all love! There needs to be more 😍🐺
I absolutely loved this book! Again I was invested and well and truly hooked after the first chapter. I loved the characters, the plot, how there were references to characters in the previous book and couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series. Go on have a go! 💖
These two were so incredibly hot in my head. By far the hottest couple, I love these two so much. The lake scene and them hiding in the woods?! UGH I LOVED HOW REAL THAT WAS AND YOU COULD JUST FEEL THE TENSION 🥹amazingggggg
