David Meyer is an author, marble-maze builder, sock puppet aficionado, wannabe cartoonist, a creator of some things and breaker of others, a yogi and martial artist, and the owner of the reddest hair you’ve ever seen.

He’s a man of few apps, but many books. Creatively, he prefers to work in circles, following “the pull” rather than pushing. He’s tried—and abandoned—nearly every productivity tool known to man. He likes new ideas, old stories, and the big picture. He dislikes small talk, busyness, and infinite scrolling.

He’s married to the wife of his youth, who knows his worst, yet loves him best. He’s also father to who just happen to be his two favorite children of all time.

The premise of this adventure novel is interesting enough, which is why I bought it. It concerns itself with an expedition to locate and dig up the legendary (and probably mythical) lost library of the Maya.

The execution, though, is lacking. Perhaps the author is inexperienced, or he just doesn't have it. The characters are very stereotypical, including the main hero, who is an action movie badass of a modern type - that is, with feelings and empathy.

The writing style is also very direct, but in a bad way. You would think that an adventure concerned with Mayan mythology would be permeated by a sense of mystery, but no. In fact, in the middle some of it is quite boring, as the story is focused on various unsuccessful attempts to gain entry to the hidden pyramid. Fortunately, the author gets out of it before the end and the last quarter of the book is more interesting.

I think the problem, as with so many American authors, is that they're not trying to write a novel - they're trying to write a script for Hollywood. In the US, an author is not considered to have made it until their book gets picked up by the movie industry, or at least adopted for television. This is why you have totally unnecessary explosions, helicopter chases and sex scenes without any meaning in every other chapter.

So in short, idea is interesting, the author shows an adequate knowledge of the Mayan civilization, the book has its moments, but overall it reads like an average to bad action movie script.

I love this writer! David Meyer comes out again with a thrilling page turner with twists and turns throughout this action-packed mystery. Once you read the first page, you will not be able to put this book down. In the mode of Dan Brown and Clive Cussler, Meyer does a masterful job in combining science and history to create a suspense-filled journey as treasure hunter, Cy Reed, strives to solve the puzzle of the famed Library of the Mayas. In his quest, Cy faces an array of bad guys and mythical beasts in using his wits to overcome ingenious traps set by a Mayan architect hundreds of years ago.

Meyer is clever, and this is another sensational novel by him. Read it. You will enjoy it! Can't wait for his next book!

What an amazing odyssey! Cy Reed embarks on deciphering the puzzle of a long lost treasure only to encounter traps and nasty villains throughout his journey. The suspense builds with every action-filled page and you'll find it's hard to put this book down. David Meyer has become my favorite author and I keep a constant lookout for his new novels. I guarantee that you'll love this book!

I'm the author of Torrent, the third book in the Cy Reed Adventure series. It's an action/adventure novel along the lines of Indiana Jones or novels by the likes of Clive Cussler, James Rollins, Steve Berry, or Douglas Preston. Check it out!

The "Cy Reed Adventures" by David Meyers' are enjoyable action and adventure page turners. The protagonist Cy (Cyclone) Reed is a disillusioned archaeologist turned treasure hunter who is shunned by his fellow archaeologists for "betraying" the very idea of that profession. If you enjoy Clive Cussler or Preston and Child, most likely you will also like David Meyer.

The plot concerns itself with an expedition to locate and dig up the legendary lost library of the Maya.  While looking for the lost Mayan library, we get to explore an ancient Mayan pyramid, they must helicopter into a small lost canyon where they get hunted by a strange creature, assaulted by strange, endless rain, ingenious traps, and encounter bizarre phenomena. All this before the bad guys show up.

Certainly it is a little over the top in spots, but it has a giant, cat-like creature, so it can not be all bad! And there is the love interest as well. Here is not one – but two strong female characters which I like. If this is a genre you enjoy, I would certainly recommend that you give David Meyers and Cyclone Reed a chance. I really enjoyed the first two books in this series more than "Torrent." I struggled with a 3 or a 4, and I gave it a "3".  However, despite a few reservations, I will follow Cy on another adventure!

I love Cy Reed!

I have read all three of the Cy Reed books and have loved them all. They have a little bit of everything for the reader. The story and characters never bog down and the story never slows down.

Great adventure.

I really enjoyed this book. Made you feel like you were
Really there in Mexico. I can't imagine what it would be like in the pyramid where it was so dangerous.

Adventure fiction at it's best!

It's kind of tough to keep writing about the books in this series! I'm enjoying them immensely and don't ever want to turn the last page! Well written and exciting to follow, terrific main characters, and so much fun!

This story takes you into the unknown following a Mayan legend about an ancient Mayan Library. Problem is, they find it is in such a remote place, it is only accessible by helicopter. The helicopter mysteriously looses all power as they descend and crashes, luckily by the temple they are seeking. Outside communication is nearly impossible. The biggest problem though? Each member has their own hidden agenda and objective -- most don't fit with anyone else's final plans!

An adventure you may not believe, however, you will have a grand time finding out!

Mystery, intrigue and a nuclear explosion? This book has it all.

This author has a way of making you feel as though you are right there in the middle of the story. While looking for the lost Mayan library, we get to explore an ancient Mayan pyramid, get hunted by a strange creature, betrayed by "friends" and chased by bad guys. Oh, and did I mention the six rooms of Xilbalba? Super cool story with lots of surprises. Loved it !
