A surprise single dad, small town romantic suspense…
I’m the last guy on the planet who should be a dad. My life is chaos. My sins written dark and deep. So, imagine my surprise when my doorbell rings and I open it to find the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen standing on the other side. And she’s holding the hand of a little girl who looks just like me.
Emery tells me her sister, the child’s mother, is dead. I feel like dirt since she’s a woman I can hardly remember, and it’s no wonder Emery doesn’t trust that I’m worthy of caring for her niece. But I can’t turn my back, and I insist on raising Maci. So, we strike a deal—she’ll stay with me for one month to ensure the little girl is safe.
Emery tries to hate me for who I am, but neither of us can resist the attraction that blazes between us. One brush of her hand, and she has me on my knees. One kiss, and I’m falling fast. Soon, we find ourselves tangled in my sheets.
But when it’s discovered her sister’s death wasn’t accidental, the secret life I’ve been living collides with the past Emery has tried to keep hidden. And when the fiends come back to finish the job they started, I’m in a race against time to save the two people who I’ve come to love most…

I don’t know what is in these books but I love them. This is a third in the series and while It was my least favorite so far it is great.
I can see the similarities between them and YES, the dirty talk that is “too much” is still here but I can’t wait to dive Into the next one 👌.
Only thing that I find hilarious and feel that in every Single parent romance book are those 4 years old kids and They are just so clever and saying deep words and all. It always cracks me up 🤣🤣❤️. Like no offense but I am not sure that even 15 years old thinks like that 😁.
Anyway this is quickly becoming my comfort read 🙏.
At The Edge of Surrender (Moonlit Ridge, #3) by A.L. Jackson
4/5 stars
At The Edge of Surrender is the third book in the Moonlit Ridge series and I really enjoyed this one.
The book starts with Kane and Theo having a drink. Kane has spotted a lonely and sad girl in his bar and he is intricately drawn to her. When a man forces himself upon her he instantly takes action and throws him out. He then takes her into his office so she can have a breather. They share an intense and hot moment, but Emery draws a line and leaves.
Emery just came to town after she found a letter from her late twin sister. Her sister has a little girl and always said she didn't know who the father was. But she does know, and after she passed away she asked through the letter to bring her daughter to her father. Emery is a little hurt cause she believed little Maci would have stayed with her. And when she knocks on the dad's door she is instantly frozen as the man from the bar opens the door. She flees as fast as she can.
When they see each other again, she is absolutely floored when he lets her know he wants to be her father and take care of her. He proposes that she moves with him as well for 4 weeks, so that the transition will be easier for Maci. And so that he can prove he will truly and unconditionally take care of his daughter.
Little Maci is a joy and I love her to pieces. I love her bond with Nolan and I love how openly she accepts her new family.
But Emery and Kane? Those two yearn and burn for each other. Every scene they are in tension fills the pages, but this is not just a romance novel. Emery has been hurt in the past and still hasn't healed completely. Flashbacks take her over. And that fear she carries with her? It still chokes her. But the fear isn't irrational. And when she voices small tidbits of truth, Kane figures out she is in danger. And his daughter is in danger. And Kane will do absolutely every- and anything to keep them safe.
I really enjoyed this book. I love the presence of the previous characters of the first two books. And I love how tight and connected the brothers are.
The book is fairly long. I personally would have preferred that it was cut down a 100 pages or so. To get a bit more momentum going throughout the entire book. But I still loved it and it was a joy to read.
4 huge stars from me for At The Edge Of Surrender!
IT’S HERE! Kane & Emery are ready to steal your heart in AT THE EDGE OF SURRENDER! When I sat down to write Kane’s story, I had no idea what was in store for me.
Oh my gosh, did these two sweep in and get me in a chokehold. They are EVERYTHING. This hate to love, surprise single dad delivers everything you need - the swoon, the spice, the banter, the SUSPENSE! Plus, the absolute sweetness as we watch Kane fall in love with his little girl, Maci. I cannot wait for you to experience this little family. Get ready to be consumed!

I really like how AL writes. It is just so raw and gritty and makes you feel like you are experiencing exactly what the MCs are experiencing. I like how all of her characters have triumped over something tragic in their lives. How strong they have come out because of it, but then I like how MUCH stronger they get when they meet their person. I liked the insta connection a lot in this one. I liked how much these two clicked and how much they were drawn to each other. There is something about a playboy who has never been interested in more falling hard and FAST. I also loved the added element of Maci, Kane's daughter. I loved the taboo of his and Emery's relationship- she is his daughter's aunt. I also loved that they had an encounter that was freeing and eye opening for both BEFORE they knew all of this. I love the darkness in these books and how these men are *bad* but also for the right reasons. How all of them had been through the trenches and were hurt so deeply that they became avengers for people who couldn't protect themselves. I loved the found family in this one- how Emery felt so at home so fast. How they just couldn't stay away from each other. How Kane's goal was to bring out her confidence and support her. I also LOVE the twist- I always try and fail to figure out who the bad guy is going to be. And AL you got us in this one- that twist at the end was chef's kiss.
Emery is in Moonlit Ridge for the worst reason. To introduce her niece to her father who she has never known. She is doing this now because her sister has died. Grief hangs heavy around her. But then she sees him. This angel of darkness at the bar, and he makes her feel things she hasn't felt with a man in YEARS. Literally. The leave each other with memories and no way to contact each other again. So imagine her surprise when her man, the man who made her feel all of the things, is in fact Kane Asher. Her niece's dad. The man who has now threatened to take away the one shining light in Emery's life. He tries to tell her that he isn't going to take her away. In fact he wants her to move in with them for a month to help Maci get comfortable. She finds herself saying yes because she is drawn to this man unlike she has ever been drawn before. Which is how she finds herself down the hall from him dreaming about what they could be. Feeling terrible for dreaming it because of their circumstances. Feeling more at home than she ever has with this man. Loving the friends and family he has and watching Maci fall in love with them too. Realizing she can't fight these feelings and giving in to them. Giving in to what her heart craves. Him. But her past is haunting her and that is becoming clearer and clearer. Kane claims he can protect her but he needs to know more. So Emery lets him all the way in. She gives him her heart, her soul and her past while hoping that he will catch her and hold her tight. Because she has fallen hard and is not going to give that up anytime soon.
Kane has been coasting through life with only one thing in mind. Taking care of people who can't take care of themselves and saving the women he couldn't all of those years ago. Nothing really fully catches his interest until her. This woman who comes into his bar that feels like her aura is screaming for him. So he takes. He engages. He commits to her for this night, and he experiences something with her that he hasn't felt in forever. A CONNECTION. But then they go their separate ways while secretly Kane is trying to figure out how to find her. But then she is at his door. Here to rock his world. She tells him he has a daughter, and that her sister was her mom. Now Kane is trying to remember her, but he really can't which says a lot about his past. But his future is different. Because these two, Maci and Emery have him wholeheartedly. He can tell Emery is fighting this thread between them. She doesn't want to acknowledge what they share because of her sister. But Kane is a patient man, and he is realizing that all of this has happened for a reason. Seeing them here with his family- that is the reason. But Kane has secrets. Secrets he keeps even from his family. He realizes too late that they might come out to haunt him. But they don't understand what he is willing to do to save the people he loves. Everything.
This was a great continuation to the series. I love that these men just exude seduction, and I have really enjoyed watching the men that ensnare them. I loved the snippets we got of the couples from the first two books. But mostly I loved this little family- Maci, Emery and Kane. Kane without a daughter was hot, but watching Kane interact with Maci was like an inferno. I loved how much Kane helped Emery heal. How he helped carry the load. I also loved how Kane realized that his family really was there for everything. I HIGHLY recommend this series for some morally gray men who fall hard and fast for their leading ladies :)
Thank you to Valentine PR and AL for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Back to Moonlit Ridge we go and this time we're riding with Kane! I was so excited when I learned his book was about a Secret Child, and even better yet, that it wasn't the heroine who kept the secret! I'm a bit picky how secret babies play out and this one was actually very understandable and heartbreaking.
Emery is the aunt of sweet little Maci, and she (Emery), has been tasked by her deceased sister to let Kane know he had a kid from a One Night Stand. I completely understood her trepidation, as how is she expected to just hand Maci over to a complete stranger? He may be sexy as hell, and make her pulse race, but WHO IS HE?
Luckily, Kane ends up wanting BOTH these new girls in his life and his protective nature and immediate deep affection for Maci win Emery over very quickly. He slides into fatherhood feet first, with no brakes!
Yet, the work Kane does will always be dangerous and seeing him try to juggle his calling and his new relationships is going to take some risk for Emery. Thankfully, he has an entire Found Family who instantly become a huge benefit, and wrap them all up in love and support.
I was sucked into this drama right away, and as always, ALJ's sweeping prose kept my heart running wild the whole time!
Narrated in Dual Style by Jason Clarke & Erin Mallon. They are a wonderful pairing and they being beautiful life to the story.

I always have the same feeling when it comes to A.L. Jackson’s books. It always feels good to be back with characters that keep stealing your heart as the series goes on. Now it’s time to be back with the Moonlit Ridge crew since Amy is about to release the next story in this series and let me tell you, again, she did not disappoint. You are so not ready to watch how Kane falls head over heels in love with his two girls. It was absolutely adorable!
So, At the Edge of Surrender is the third installment in Jackson’s Moonlit Ridge series and it continues the same main subplot as the others but obviously with a new couple, Kane Asher and Emery Voss. These two have an instant connection when they meet for the first time in one of Kane’s bars but that doesn’t quite work out, because the second one happens to be when Emery shows at Kane’s door with a surprise. Her niece Maci and the daughter Kane knew nothing about, and now he wants to raise and protect her. But an unexpected connection grows between this newfound family and obstacles keep getting in their way. Will they get their happy ending?
It was the energy she emitted that had me trapped. This thing that made me feel like she was supposed to be right here, right now.
I am SO VERY in love with this series! Each story with a different feel but always following the same subplot of the friendship/brotherhood between these men and the women who change their lives forever. Now it’s time for Kane’s chaos to turn into a beautiful rose garden (you’ll get the reference when you read the book!) and that happens when Emery and Maci turn his world upside down. In the best way possible! A man who has been afraid to love ever since he lost his mother and a woman afraid to open up after a painful experience and losing her sister. As you can imagine, it’s difficult for both to love fully but their chemistry is too strong to ignore. And even more impossible when the adorable Maci keeps them together.
Find me in the darkness, bring me to the light.
Therefore, I am rating At the Edge of Surrender with 5 STARS because I loved how this novel made me feel and how I am now even more in love with this crew of characters. Kane, Emery and Maci are such a beautiful family, and I am so happy that after so much pain they finally found happiness together. I loved reading how this couple falls in love and raise such an adorable kid as a newfound family. This series keeps getting better and now I am oh-so-ready for more!
The easiest five stars I’ve given! AL Jackson continues to reign supreme in the sexy single parent romance genre. I simply can’t get enough of her beautiful stories!
Here’s what I loved most: Always and forever, this author’s writing style. There’s just something magical about the lyrical style of her writing. This single dad is smoking hot and is down bad for his girl. It a little I’ll burn down the world for you with a side of who hurt you. What’s not to love? The character growth element in this book is so freaking good! Both of the MCs have overcome some awful obstacles and I loved seeing them land softly with each other. As always the cute kid shines brightly. If you’re a fan of single dad, surprise dad, and found family this book is a must read!
Sometimes, we come across books that speak directly to our soul — so raw and deeply that it becomes almost impossible to put the feeling into words. This was that book.
I went into At the Edge of Surrender completely blind — no blurb, no expectations, just a name. And I could hug my past self for that decision.
Emery. God, Emery. She is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful female characters I’ve ever read — and one I’ll carry with me for life. As an aunt, I felt every word when she spoke about her love for Maci saving her. That love? That fierce, soul-saving kind? I’ve lived it. I’ve breathed it. Emery's emotions, vulnerabilities, insecurities, and fears were described with such tenderness and depth that it was impossible not to understand her, feel for her, love her — and most of all, root for her. For her happiness. For her HEA.
And then there’s Kane. Oh, Kane. His character was a masterclass in slow-burning intensity. Only A.L. Jackson could craft such a beautifully layered, emotionally rich, and intense character. Kane is everything romance lovers adore: protective, completely obsessed with the FMC and Macy, fiercely loyal, and absolutely fearless. He fights for the people he loves, and nothing — and no one — will stand in his way.
From the very first page, I knew — I knew — this book was going to wreck me in the most beautiful way. A.L. Jackson’s writing is poetry laced with pain, love, hope, and healing. It’s not just lyrical — it’s alive. It bleeds. It breathes. It wraps around you and doesn’t let go.
This is the kind of book I want to see breaking records. A story I wish every romance fan would read — and one I hope finds a home in every reader’s heart, just as it did in mine.
If you love a small town romantic suspense with a morally grey MMC who is part of a secret society with a plot that has twists, turns and secrets that will have you guessing til the end, then this is in fact the book for you. I think it should be said, I gobble books like this up, so it should be no surprise that this book was a straight banger for me. I was hooked from the start and had to literally pry my hands away from my kindle and actually adult, which I know is so lame.
When I first start this series, I called Cash was my man. What I did not have on my bingo card? Kane Asher. This man came out of left field. And I fell. I FELL SO HARD! Was this man instantly in love with Emery? Yep. Is he a fierce protector? You bet your bottom dollar. Was he an amazing father? Yes and it will warm you heart. And if you love the micro trope of "who did this to you?" then this man will be a top MMC for you. But I also really loved Emery. This girl has been through it. She was almost trafficked at a young age which has severely affected her as an adult and then to lose her twin sister in a tragic way really throws her off the deep end. But then to learn her sister wants her to let a man she doesn't know to raise her niece is was really does her in.
Both Kane and Emery have tragic pasts that they need to over come. Their stories are heart breaking. I did shed a tear or two because I couldn't even imagine being in situations that these two has to endure at a young age. But to see them overcomes those hurdles together to create a loving family for Maci seriously made me melt. And on the topic if Maci, she's the cutest little 4 year old I ever did fictionally meet. Her Mr. Kane was her bestest friend, which was adorable.
I just loved this book so much. I didn't want to put it down. And the plot has me continuously guessing. AL Jackson, thank you for another banger!
You should most definitely read this book if you like: - Romantic Suspense - Small Town - Morally Gray MMC - Surprise Single Dad - She is his baby mama's twin sister - Hate to Love - Roommates to Lovers - Found Family - Secret Society - Touch Her and 💀
* I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to AL Jackson and Valentine PR for allowing me the pleasure to read At The Edge of Surrender as an ARC in exchange of my honest thoughts, opinions and review.
Welcome back to Moonlit Ridge! This series consistently delivers unique stories and unforgettable characters. Each book explores the deep bonds of brotherhood and the transformative power of love.
At the Edge of Surrender tells the story of Kane, Emery and the daughter he never knew he had, Maci. These two girls turn his world upside down in the best ways. It’s impossible not to fall in love with them! Both Kane and Emery are learning to overcome painful pasts and find love after loss. Kane is a man scarred by witnessing the tragic loss of his mother, and Emery is hesitant to break down her walls after losing her twin sister. Despite their fears, their chemistry is undeniable, and little Maci sweetly anchors them.
This book gave me all the feels! Kane, Emery, and Maci's journey to happiness as a family, after enduring so much pain, is truly heartwarming. One thing I’ll always say is A.L. Jackson writes the BEST morally grey men. FACT. Kane is no exception. There’s a reason he kept himself unavailable before Emery. He didn’t think he was worthy of a family and that his participation in Sovereign Sanctum was too dangerous, but this man will burn down the world for the people he loves. The romantic suspense leaves you truly guessing. If you want a book that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat while also bringing the heat and making you swoon, I couldn’t recommend this series more! Each book makes me fall in love even more. ♥️🖤
Audio review: Incredible dual narration from Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon! Erin is one of my favorite narrators, so when the narrator reveal was announced, I knew this was one I'd need to listen to, and of course she didn't disappoint! The heartfelt emotion and intense suspense of this novel was captured perfectly between Jason & Erin. They truly embodied their characters, and it was such an immersive experience!
Admittedly, this was a more challenging read for me, likely because if the content and how heavy it felt for me as a mother and a grief therapist. Please mind the trigger warnings here.
Despite the heaviness of the subject matter, there were really important reminders about redemption, healing, growing around grief and reclaiming sexuality after trauma. On some level it was healing for the reader to experience the healing of both MMC and FMC through the story, and watching the world develop while also creating a safe space for a little girl had me in my feels several times.
The story had real value and touched on important truths and themes, I felt a lot of big things when reading and carried those things right through the ending. Reading is subjective and there is value in being uncomfortable sometimes and the HEA was well earned and I was glad there was redemption and so much healing.
I can’t wait to continue this series, and love the found family elements and the romance. I so enjoy the world of vigilante justice, healing and general swoon-worthy behavior of the men of Moonlight Ridge.
Thank you to Valentine PR and AL Jackson for the eARC and to the author for the physical copy which is quite beautiful.
AL Jackson has a a unique to her writing style. The way she weaves a plot and the poetic way she goes about it, I love.
Romantic suspense: top notch here. You think you’ve got a theory, but nope.

It’s hard to write a review here without wanting to give anything away. I will say tho: Kane would make me melt into a puddle
I'm completely obsessed with this series, and this installment did not disappoint. From the moment Emery shows up at Kane’s door, his world is turned upside down. He discovers he’s the father of Emery’s niece, a child he never knew existed. Emery, understandably guarded, agrees to stay for a month to ensure the little girl is in good hands.
Kane quickly wins her over with his genuine care and devotion, not just to his daughter, but to Emery as well. Their chemistry builds beautifully until it becomes impossible to ignore. But with Emery's stay coming to an end and danger unexpectedly threatening her, they're forced to make life changing decisions.
Narrators Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon are outstanding, bringing Kane and Emery’s emotional, tension filled journey to life with authenticity and depth. If you’ve been loving this series, this book is an absolute must listen!
Thank you, A.L. Jackson and Valentine PR for the ALC.
A.L. Jackson has done it again! Moonlit Ridge has been one of my favorite romanic suspense series of the year so far. And the cover? Fabulous!! I was lucky enough to read an early copy and also listen to an ALC. Both were outstanding.
At the Edge of Surrender is the third book in the Moonlit Ridge series and has all the deliciously good forbidden vibes. But Kane and Emery's connection is explosive right from the start. Right from the moment that Kane lays eyes on the woman in his bar and she feels a tug to the tattooed stranger that just may be able to make her stop hurting.
"Find me in the darkness, bring me to the light."
But when circumstances lead Emery to Kane's doorstep with a child in tow, everything changes. Especially for Kane who finds out he is the father to a precious little girl named Maci. The last thing that Kane needs is to bring a child into his life of danger. But that little girl flips his world upside down along with her auntie Emery. And Kane knows he will do whatever it takes to keep those two safe. Because "you take care of who you love most."
If you know me, you know I love a single dad romance. And Kane had all the attributes to make me swoon. He not only immediately fell in love with his daughter and wanted to be in HER life, but he made his house a home for her and invited her into HIS life with his family. Add on his dirty talking and wicked attraction to his daughter's auntie, and I was a goner. Watching the relationships between Kane, Emery and Maci grow had me smiling and knowing that their journey was going to be worth it. But you could feel the underlying suspense and evil lurking quietly underneath. And when it hits? Boom! You will be in for a twist that brings the past and present together in an unexpected way that had me glued to the pages.
Although At the Edge of Surrender is a standalone within a series, I highly recommend you read the previous 2 books as those characters show up in this one and you get the feeling of one big found family dynamic that made this story even more special. I not only fell in love with with Emery, Kane and Maci, but I fell in love with the whole cast of characters that come together for one another and take care of each other when needed.
"There's something you're going to learn about me, Emery. I fight for my family. Whatever the cost. Whatever the price. There might be very few people I trust in this world, my circle small because I rarely let anyone in....But when I love? I love with everything I've got. And that little girl? She's going to get all of that."
If you enjoy small town, romantic suspense with a secret society of morally grey characters, this series is one to pick up. And if you like a surprise single dad with scene stealer children, and explosive chemistry with a "forbidden roommate", you will love At the Edge of Surrender. And finally, if you're an audiobook fan, Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon were a total vibe for their dual narrating performance. While I love both of these narrators, I think Clarke really captured the darkness and sexy banter of his character while Mallon brought a lightness and vulnerability to Emery. Either way, I loved both aspects of my reading journey for this story. I can't wait to see where Jackson takes us next in the Moonlit Ridge series!
Omg, I can't even tell you how obsessed I am with this series. I'm a sucker for a morally grey guy who's secretly a softy and would go to the ends of the earth for his woman. These guys have completely stolen a special place in my heart, fr. They’d burn the world down for their girls, and I eat that sh*t up every time.
The way Kane broke down all of Emery's walls was just everything. So gentle, but so swoon-worthy.
Now I'm just living for Theo & Cash's books! I swear I'm the most excited about Cash's though. How am I supposed to wait until October??? That teaser for Theo and Piper in the epilogue just killed me. I need to read it. Right now.
Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Trope: single dad Angst: 😱😱😱😱😱 Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥
AL Jackson has done it again in this latest Moonlit Ridge book! Tons of action with so much angst. Some parts will absolutely rip your heart out before putting it back together again. Quite the emotional rollercoaster ride with so many big twists and turns. This was such a fantastic story and I absolutely loved seeing so many friends from the previous books. Can't wait to read the next one!
This series has been such a wild ride with each book being such a unique journey for not only the MC’s but the found family that they grow along the way 🖤
Emery Voss loses her twin sister and becomes the guardian for her niece. In picking up the pieces after, she finds a letter naming the father of Maci as Kane Asher from a small town, Moonlit Ridge, and her sisters words urging her to bring Maci to him. As Emery struggles with accepting this new hardship she must face, she meets a handsome stranger in a bar that lets her finally let go a little bit. Worlds collide the next day when she goes to meet Maci’s father for the first time and finds her handsome stranger is one in the same. As the two try to navigate their attractions for each other as well as the relationship with this precious little girl there seems to me more than meets the eye to not only Emery’s back story but the loss of her sister.
DADDY KANE HAS ENTERED THE CHAT 🫠 The way this man loves immediately, hard and so loud absolutely blew both Emery (and myself) away. Not only was this such a journey for Emery and Kane regarding their feelings for one another, their relationship with Maci and also all of the outside forces that not only has Kane been fighting against but involved Emery’s sister as well. And the last 15%??? My stomach fell out of my butt!!!
So thankful for the opportunity to have ARC read this entire series and I can’t wait to see whats next with obsessive over protective Theo 👀 Thank you so much to AL Jackson + team for this eARC for review!! At the Edge of Surrender is out now!!
Another great read by my girl A.L. Jackson!! This series is SOO GOOD! I mean who doesn’t love a morally grey MMC who is apart of a secret society! I was swooning over Kane! The plot and twist in her books give me life! I really enjoyed the romantic suspense in this, kept me wanting to keep reading and not put it down! She has a unique writing style and I will always read her books!
The chemistry with Kane and Emery was PERFECTION! I was feeling all of the feels! Kane will protect the ones he loves the most and that just warms my heart. He fell in love with his daughter at first sight and their relationship was EVERYTHING! I was blessed with the audio book and let me tell you they killed it!! The best narrators for Kane and Emery!! They did an amazing job brining this story to life.
I really can’t wait for the rest of this series and these covers are probably one of my favorites and I will always stand by that! Thank you A.L. Jackson and VPR for this eARC & ALC!

oh hi, it's me again coming to rave about how much I love ALJ and her books.
Amy is one of my all time favourite authors (i probably say this in most if not all of my reviews of her books), but regardless of my bias, there is one thing that she is fantastic at (that's a lie, there are LOTS of things she is fantastic at, but this is one of my favourite things she is wildly talented in): writing some of my all time favourite single dads (and the timing of this release just after fathers day? likely unintentional, but still *chef's kiss*)
Kane was once again, a top tier single dad but with a bit of a twist. This man had no idea he was a father, until the georgous woman from the other night showed up on his door step with her niece... aka, his daughter. Did he feel he deserved the light emanating from the little girl and her stunning aunt? No, he's a good guy who does bad things for good reasons but immediately wanted to step up to the plate and care for Maci (and emery, even if he wasn't immediately ready to admit that).
Another thing Amy is incredibly talented at? Giving her stories a full circle moment.
These two character have been THROUGH it. And while Kane is trying to make amends through his secret actions, Emery just wants to forget, until she can't anymore.
These characters are so well developed, and this book is packed full of tension, chemistry, heart and heat.
And just when you thought this book couldn't get any better, it's narrated by Jason Clark and Erin Mallon. These two together were perfection and portrayed these characters effortlessly.
Thank you to Valentine PR and A.L. Jackson for the ALC.
This is a new author for me. Overall I really enjoyed this book. I love a good romantic suspense! The way Ms Jackson wove the twists and turns of this story together kept me intrigued. Shortly into the book you kinda know what had happened to both MC but, you don't know why or how or when! Or how everything is going to weave together, just that it is. The main plot was well thought out. This is the third book in the series, I will be trying the first two. So why 4 stars and not 5? There were a few things that bugged me. This author's writing style at times felt choppy, I guess is a good way to describe it. The way things were worded had me stopping and back tracking, which in turn took me out of the story. I'm a terrible writer but, I'm also not a author. So, I don't know, maybe just me. There were some details to the story I felt were off. Without giving anything away. Things that were overlooked that wouldn't be by someone with Kane's background. Again maybe just me but, the details matter. Overall I enjoyed the suspense and intrigue enough to get past the things that bugged me. If you enjoy romantic suspense I would definitely recommend this. At the time of this post this series is available on KU
4.5 stars! I loved Kane and Emory’s story, I love the suspense in this one so much! I was on my toes the whole time! Maci is just the cutest little surprise as well and I love that they eased into everything and always thought of the little girl before themselves
I love this series, and this one became my new favorite Moonlit Ridge story. Kane and Emery have the best chemistry, the plot twists are so good, and I binged it so quick because the pace was perfect and these characters had me deeply invested. If you like a morally gray found family, it doesn’t get better than this one!
The audiobook is narrated by Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon and you do not want to miss their performances, I loved listening to them!

At The Edge of Surrender by AL Jackson 5/5⭐ 2,5/5🌶️
Once I finished the last book, I just knew I would love this one too, and I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint! I’ve been super excited to dive into this book, and it might just be on its way to becoming one of my all-time favorite series. Each book keeps getting better, and I’m all in for this ride! Kane and Emery both have tough pasts that tugged at my heartstrings. I found myself tearing up multiple times, just wanting to give them both a big hug. The writing is fantastic as always, and the chemistry between the main characters is simply electric. The found family vibe and the camaraderie among everyone is so heartwarming. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat!
Kane steps in to help a woman who’s being harassed at his club. He tends to her, and their chemistry is undeniable. The next day, he’s surprised to find her right outside his home, but before he can say anything, she runs off. So, he tracks her down to find out what’s going on, only to discover she’s the aunt of his four-year-old daughter! At first, he hesitates to let his daughter get close due to the dangers he faces, but after spending just one day with her, he realizes he can’t bear to let her go. He asks Emery for four weeks to show that he can be a great dad.
The chemistry between Kane and Emery is off the charts from the start. But when Emery finds out Kane is her niece’s dad, she feels torn. She’s attracted to him but struggles with guilt because of his history with her sister. Plus, she’s protective over Maci. However, as she spends time with Kane and sees how loving he is with Maci, she starts to believe he is a good person.
The moment Kane saw Emery, he sensed the pain she was carrying, and it sparked his protective instincts. He wants nothing more than to help ease her suffering and see her shine. I loved how attentive he was; he never pushed her but was always there when she needed support. His honesty about his feelings was refreshing, and it showed how much he wanted her to feel at ease.
Their journey isn’t easy, but it’s beautiful. I enjoyed how naturally their relationship blossomed and how they helped each other heal. There was a twist at the end that caught me by surprise, but it wrapped everything up perfectly. The family dynamics in this series are my absolute favorite! I love seeing all the characters come together to support one another, and it was so heartwarming to see them embrace Maci and Emery into their fold. This was such an amazing read, and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Okay, AL Jackson why??? Why must you rip my heart out with every book you write!!! At the Edge of Surrender was absolutely incredible and now I don't know what to do with myself. It is another masterpiece of PERFECTION and one that will live rent-free in my head for quite some time.
Kane was equal parts swoon-worthy and dirty-talking book boyfriend material but watching him and Emery's relationship grow from a one-night fling to something so much more had me obsessed with their story. I was captivated by the love story unfolding but immersed in the love he had for his daughter, Kane with Maci just melted my heart. There was evil lurking within the pages, you could feel it creeping in slowly throughout the book and then it hit which had me on the edge of my seat, the shock to my system from the twist was a bomb drop of epic proportions and had me gasping. This book was such an addicting, consuming, page-turner that I couldn't put it down, and that epilogue..... went out with a bang!
This is why you AL Jackson are an auto-buy author for me, one of my all-time favorites, and someone I ALWAYS recommend! I LOVED this story and can't get enough of this series!! So excited for everyone to experience Kane, Emery, Maci and the rest of the crew!
Back in Moonlit Ridge with the third book in this exhilarating romantic suspense series. These books center around a secret society of vigilante heroes set out to protect and save those in dangerous and toxic situations.
Mystery girl Emery blows into town filled with ghosts of her past and an unexpected surprise for local Kane. Life quickly changes for him once he discovers he has a daughter he never knew about and whose mother was taken by a recent tragedy. Both full of their own secrets, Emery and Kane share an undeniable connection that they can’t seem to escape.
I loved all the mystery and secrets in this one. I was shocked by some of the reveals towards the end of the story. There hasn’t been a more protective mmc in this series yet. Kane was a man set on saving this woman and freeing her from her past. He was hooked from day one. It was nice watching Emery open herself up to living a life she deserved after all the trauma that had been weighing her down.
If you haven’t read this series yet and you enjoy romantic suspense, I highly suggest you do because it is one of my favorites. Jackson writes steamy emotionally driven stories with alpha heroes and lots of healing for all the characters. A great example of found family through this band of brothers and the ladies that enter their lives.
“Think I lose another part of myself every time I look at you.”
“How I wanted to stand in those flames for her. Hunt down whatever or whoever had inflicted the wounds that she so impetuously tried to keep buried.”
At The Edge of Surrender, a grey romance, with lots of spice, and characters overcoming their past traumas.
The title nails the two main characters, throughout this book they are literally at the edge of surrender with each other. Just holding out a little longer, and a little longer, until they finally surrender their entire selves to each other.
FMC Emery has come to Moonlit Ridge to bring her niece to the father that her deceased sister pretended not to know of. It has been a hard enough life for Emery and her sister after what they experienced as teens, but now Emmalee is gone, and the only part of her left, Emery is being asked to give away to a man nobody knows. Once Emery meets Kane, she is immediately drawn to him, how could something so wrong feel so right....
MMC Kane has a dark past, and has decided to spend his future saving those that he can from a similar experience. When one day, out of nowhere, a beautiful bombshell shows up on his doorstep, telling him he has a 4 year old daughter, he does not believe it. Not until he sees a photo of little Maci, and he knows she is his. His daughter's Aunt Emery has brought him to his knees almost immediately, changing his life plan of never getting close to someone into a desperation to have her he does not know how to extinguish, nor does he want to...
This story is tragic, and uplifting, reading the horrific pasts that these two characters have. Finding each other, the hate from Emery, and obsession from Kane, turning into a mutual surrender to each other of their past demons, their current life, and their future. Emery allows herself to finally grow, and share the pain of her past with someone, and Kane helps Emery finally move on and have a life she can enjoy. Emery allows Kane to feel for someone, and be loved, something he did not expect to have in his lifetime.
This book is nearly impossible to put down as you wait, on the edge, to see how Kane and Emery's story plays out.

"Going to show you that you want every part of me the way I want every part of you."~Kane
I don't know how to feel about this book. I couldn't connect with the characters or their attraction to one other. The writing style was different. The sentences were not fully developed, if that makes sense. No one has conversations like this, only half-written. I tried, hoping it would get better, but it didn't. I was bored. I felt like Kane and Emery, the main couple, who were supposed to be having the love of a lifetime, a huge romance, instead it was flat. It became a let me tell you, rather than show you type read. I hope that makes sense. There were so many things that were being tossed into a complex and complicated story. From a bad bad past, the results of not dealing with deeply rooted issues, and the consequences of them now.
🚩🚩Also, be sure to read those TWs. There are situations that might be uncomfortable or triggering for some readers.🚩🚩
The fact that Emery shows up in Moonlit Ridge with her 4yr old niece Maci and her mother to let Kane know he has a daughter; but instead indulges in having a s*xual encounter with him, all within 20 mintues of meeting him, sounds too far-fetched. Especially since she has a very damaged past.🤷🏼♀️ Kane also slept with her fraternal twin sister, but he doesn't exactly remember her. Yikes! That's. That's just sad.😑 Would you want a guy who did that with your sister? I wouldn't. Eww.🤢 No. But Emery got over it quickly.🤪 The impression that I got from these 2 was that in order to experience real freedom it meant having--- s*x. That's a matter of opinion. The metaphors were a bit cringe.lol S*x=soaring.🙄 The spice was mild.
Is Kane a good guy? Yes. And no. He sure talks a big game.😂😂 He talks a lot. He wants his daughter. And he also wants Auntie Em too. Now to convince her. It doesn't take much.hehe Maci was cute, but her conversations were not from a 4yr old. Let's be real here. It was more like a 10-12yr old. There's a twist at the end, but it took too long to get there. Chapter 51 to be exact. That's almost the end of the book. The other big bad, why only have it now and then? That's weird. Not much suspense. I wanted more substance than having half conversations, still keeping secrets back, and talking in what appears to be code. Get to the point. Even Emery suspected things about her sister's fall from the roof being suspicious but she didn't want Kane's help with it. Why? It was her imagination as she put it. Really? That's what we're doing now. The book was too long and I did lose interest more often than not. I'm on the fence with this one. I think Emery depended too much on Kane to 'fix her' and her issues. Girl, you can have support but only you can fix yourself. Another thing: If someone hits their head on the front bumper or just in general of a parked SUV, to escape from being taken/kidnapped, I think the last thing that person would leap into... would be a man's bed.😮💨🙈 Hello. Knocked out. Trauma. Makes zero sense. If you want to read it, you should. It might work for you. I was expecting something else. I gave it 3 stars for the unexpected twist, not the ugly act of it, and for the found family elements. Maybe the next book will be different. There's a HEA. I like the book cover. Good luck. Happy reading.*•>§<•*💌💌💌💌
💁🏼♀️🐲Thank you to Ms Jackson and Valentine PR for an early book. The opinions shared here are my own.🐲💁🏼♀️
It shouldn’t be a surprise that this book gets a five star from me. A.L. Jackson is amazing and I looooove her writing style. Can we have a moment for the covers, the covers for this series are stunning. 🙂↕️ I have been loving the Moonlit Ridge series and this one just became my favorite. I received an early copy and an ALC, both are amazing!!
I absolutely love Kane and Emery and the relationship they create. They both have heartbreaking stories of their own and they turn to eachother for comfort. These characters are strong on their own and even stronger when they stand together.
Kane becomes a single dad when he finds out about his secret child. Kane is perfection, that’s all. He is protective, obsessed with his girl and his daughter, loves with his whole being, and an amazing father. I absolutely love him. Emery is such a strong woman that has been through hell and back. She wants the absolute best for her family and she fights for it. I adore Emery and the strength she has.
The audiobook is PHENOMENAL!! Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon were absolutely amazing together and brought the characters to life perfectly. I love both of these narrators and I think they were perfect for the characters in this book. Jason was the perfect Kane and brought his protectiveness to another level. Erin brought out the softness and the strength of Emery.
A huge thank you to Valentine PR and A.L. Jackson for the ARC and ALC of this book 🥹🫶🏼
This series owns me. I had high hopes for At the Edge of Surrender after loving the first two books in the series and it didn't disappoint. I was really drawn to Emery's character. How strong she was grieving her sister and taking on the responsibility for her niece Maci. She was a fighter and knowing she had to overcome her trauma for Maci was nothing short of incredible. Kane was a sweetheart. This dark broken man who was loyal and protective of his daughter and Emery. I love how he had readily accepted his daughter and their interactions were so cute. I really love the found family aspect in this book. The revelation in the end about Kane and Emery's past were gripping, intense, and emotional. I understood Emery's reaction towards Kane when she found out about it, but I am glad they were able to sort everything out. I was so excited for the little nugget about Theo and Piper in the end. Can't wait for their story and Cash too. If you love the first two books in the series, I am sure you will love Kane and Emery's story in At the Edge of Surrender.
