Trapped in an urban hellscape, the O'Brians come face-to-face with someone who they least expect. Meanwhile, in Oregon, the family vineyard is under increasing threats thanks to its resources and location, and the Tills must either stand their ground or risk joining those who have fled and perished in book 2 of FOLIANT.
From 4-million-copy bestselling master of thrilling fiction Mike Kraus comes a new epic FOLIANT.
A nerve agent is deployed in cities across the country, and within hours tens of millions are dead - but the worst is yet to come.
Caught in the middle of the attacks in Los Angeles, the vacationing O’Brian family barely survives by the skin of their teeth - but soon find themselves trapped in the midst of a city of the dead. The only way back to their family in Oregon is to go straight through the heart of the charnel house, a prospect that is easier said than done.
Far to the north, in Oregon, the Tills family vineyard is spared the worst of the initial attacks - but the secondary effects may be their undoing as the world falls apart around them.
For those in charge of the response, the attacks are evolving too quickly to predict, and the country’s final undoing may be closer than anyone realizes as the terrible attacks have only just begun....
FOLIANT is a thrilling 6-book series that blurs the line between technothriller, post-apocalyptic thriller and all-too-real possible predictor of the future. Written by 4-million-copy bestselling author Mike Kraus and published by Muonic Press, When Hope Dies is book 2 in this epic series.
*****
Mike Kraus and Muonic Press are the #1 best-selling and most prolific publishers of post-apocalyptic, thrilling fiction - for good reason. Since making his debut in 2012 with Final Dawn, a serial that sold over a quarter-million copies in the first year it was out, Mike Kraus has enraptured readers with his writing. Realistic characters, compelling storylines and a dedication to the highest possible quality have earned him over four million sales and counting. In addition to writing stories like Final Dawn, No Sanctuary, Surviving the Fall, Epoch's End and The End of All Things solo, Mike writes with a variety of co-authors such as Justin Bell, Stacey Upton, Mark Hunter, Stephanie Mylchreest and more.
So the rating dropped from 4 to 3. The general story is still good, the writing is good and the editing is fine, however there are parts of the story that are a bit baffling. In one instance, someone is attacked (no give away here), who exactly is attacking him and why? I had to read the scene 3 times to try and figure it out, at first I thought it was zombies attacking. Don’t believe so now, but still not sure who it was or why. There is no indication in the story of a real timeline, has this been happening for a week, a few days or a couple of days? It would be useful to know, because just how long is it going to take to get out of LA? Finally, a positive, someone did something stupid and paid the price…nice which it would happen more often! I like the story, Part 3 here I come!
Mike Kraus' second outstanding FOLIANT series novel, When Hope Dies, continues the O'Brian family story, as they face a life-or-death flight, while sheltering a VIP, aboard their RV.
From the family vineyard in Oregon, Benjamin Tills and Doug need to go to get vital equipment from an old friend, after getting some unwelcome visitors.
Will all go to plan?
Long chapters focused on different characters' storylines entwine to make a dynamic, breathtaking whole, that will have you eagerly awaiting Book 3.
Meanwhile, enjoy When Hope Dies - it's guaranteed unputdownable!
I grudgingly got thru this second book of this series, after skimming the last half. I've enjoyed some of Kraus' books but not this series . Although its a good story, it is a very boring read. Too much fluff, too much extra words, too much writing a lot of words without say much. What is written in these two books might have been a really good read if 75% of the words were left out, too much description of things and then a page or two later saying the same thing . I will not be reading the rest of this series, its just too boring. Forgot how many times I've dozed off during these two books. I hope for something better in the future from Mr. Kraus.
This continues a good series and is well-written and edited. Lots of action in Oregon (lucky to have Benjamin and Darryl), California (with a surprise guest), government and crews trying to find out what was used in the attack (and why would a trained tech find an intact but sus container and open it??). I like President Jane but am not a fan of the switch to present tense. We still have a lot of mystery of the attack and the V people.
All post apocalyptic books have a similar plot andsimilar characters, unique, but cut from the same cloth!
Plot is good, but predictable. Characters feature some self made individuals and the rest. This book includes a non contributing, but contrite politician. I enjoyed the read, but need real tragedy to befall the main characters. bad things happen to good people because of circumstances out of their control. Sometimes the just fail!
An excellent second instalment of this series but I have to say it does get very repetitive in places, explaining the same thing many times in slightly different ways, I know details are incredibly important in story telling but for example we don't need to know what the vineyards look and smell like every chapter we go back there . Otherwise it's a great story and I'm looking forward to part three
When Hope Dies is another great story in the Foliant series. Easy to become immersed in the lives of our main characters, keeping our fingers crossed that they make it through the dangers around them. Great storyline. Definitely needing to see where this all leads to.
Something suddenly caused almost immediate death. Very few surviving If they were high.enough. a the vintage seemed safe but struggles to live are.great. This is a little more detailed with some happening than those so have read before.
Very realistic depiction of the results of a massive multi-city chemical attack. Gripping with much detail around the effects of the attack, the preparations at the Oregon Winery and the attempts by the Federal Government in the face of a horrific attack.
This second book is even more intriguing if at all possible. Danger everywhere, how will the survivors get through this, is there any hope. Don’t miss out.
I did really enjoy this part of the story! A really well written continuation of the plot. Exciting, high tension scenes & interesting ideas. I do always enjoy this writers work & I do recommend.
Well written and fast paced, great characters and plot. A new problem added almost every chapter which keeps you on the edge of your seat, so to speak.
This is the second book in a series that suspect could have been 1 book. Agonizingly slow! I hate not finishing series, but I don’t think I can do this one.
