A deal with a dragon. Bound to him, she will dance in his blaze.

Sabrina has spent her life defying expectations. As an omega who refuses to take a mate, she’s determined to live on her own terms, even in a world where omegas are seen as powerless without an alpha by their side. Finding herself without any money, Sabrina finds a mysterious quest asking for omegas to work with baby dragons, she doesn't think twice before taking it. It pays well, and she needs the money. But nothing is as simple as it seems.

“I made a deal with a dragon. A deal that changed my life.”

Zephyr is the leader of the Firescale Clan, a once-mighty dragon clan now in ruins after the Dragon War. As the last alpha of a pure fire dragon bloodline, his council insists he find a mate and give the clan an heir. But, rebuilding the clan back to its old glory is his only priority, right now. That’s how he ends up in a small guild, confronted by a very puzzled omega inquiring about the caretaker job. How could he explain to her that there were no baby dragons—at least, not yet?

"I need an omega to rebuild my clan and give me an heir. It has to be you, Sabrina. Without you, there’s no one else for me."

Bound by Fire and Scales is the first book in The Dragons of Earis series. If you like romantasy with open door spice and happy endings, this is the perfect read for you. While this book is part of a series, it can be enjoyed on its own, with each installment featuring a different couple. Expect powerful dragons, possessive, protective love interests, a fierce FMC, roaring alphas, playful banter, intense and steamy omega heats. This book is recommended for 18+ due to language and sexual situations

After reading countless fated mate stories—especially those with dominant alphas and submissive omegas—I often found myself losing interest. While they could be exciting, the repetitive storylines revolving around the luna and the pack became predictable. But Bound by Fire and Scales was different. The moment I saw that it featured a dragon shifter searching for a mate, I was hooked. And I can confidently say—this is by far the best fated mate story I’ve ever read.

The story follows Zephyr, the last living alpha of his bloodline in the Firescale Clan. With his clan struggling after a brutal war, the pressure to find a mate and produce an heir intensifies. Tired of the relentless nagging, he claims he already has a mate and sets out to find a fake one.

Enter Sabrina—a human omega and an adventurer who takes on dangerous jobs just to survive. Despite her strength and determination, she is constantly underestimated and taken advantage of by higher-ranked betas who refuse to pay her fairly. One evening, while looking for work, she stumbles upon Zephyr’s notice in a bar. Misunderstanding the job description, she assumes it involves caring for a hatchling. But when she meets Zephyr, their undeniable attraction is immediate. When he clarifies that he’s actually looking for someone to pose as his mate, rather than care for a child, Sabrina initially refuses, despite the sizzling chemistry between them.

What sets this book apart is the dynamic between Zephyr and Sabrina. Unlike the typical overbearing alpha, Zephyr is passionate, considerate, and deeply caring. There were desperate moments where he could have taken advantage of her, and given the circumstances, no one would have judged him. But he never did. He understood what it meant to her, and that made me swoon over him even more!

Both Zephyr and Sabrina have lived burdened lives, shaped by hardship and responsibility. Yet, despite it all, Zephyr remains headstrong, leading with quiet strength, while Sabrina refuses to submit, proving her resilience at every turn. Even when fate continues to test them, she stands by him, fights for him, and refuses to back down. But what starts as an act slowly reveals itself to be something much more.

I devoured this book in a single night—it had everything I could want in a fated mate story. If you're looking for a refreshing take on the genre, with a strong-willed heroine and a truly admirable alpha, this is the book for you. Highly recommended!

This book is a great start for a series. In the beginning we can feel the difficulties that an omega like Sabrina will go through and how it shaped her as a person and what she has to endure on a daily basis. With Zephyr, we see how she becomes stronger and overcomes obstacles.
It's an easy to read book that gives so much promise for what's to come.
Can't wait to see how things go from here and what happens to the friends!

I've enjoyed this book, it was a nice read. I was quite happy to get a copy. Also, the chapter headers are pretty (and that's cool).

The story focuses on Zephir and Sabrina. The trope goes a bit like: dragon-boy needs girl, girl helps boy by being a fake "mate", boy and girl fall for each other. In my world, it does the trick and it works.

I liked the characters, they each had their own battles and unresolved issues until they truly found each other.

I was a bit puzzled by 3/4 of the book. A couple of chapters felt very rushed, the story went very quick over some relationship aspects and It just didn't click. Some scenes happened too fast for my taste and could have been granted a few more pages.

However, if you like:
🔥
Dragons
Romance
Epic battles
Open door spice (please make sure you read the content warning)
This is a book for you.

Thank you again to the author for providing an ARC to their book. This review is my own entirely.

OMG I absolutely loved this book 🥰 I can’t wait for book 2 💜 I got an ARC of this book from the author ✍🏻

This is a fantasy book about dragon shifters and in this book we get to meat Zephyr an alpha and the leader of the firescales clan 🔥and Sabrina an human omega. Zephyr hires Sabrina so she can pretend to be his mate 🐉 But things happens and everything changes 🙃

I really love a book with a strong FMC 👩🏼 that don’t take any crap from no one 💪🏻 and a MMC with the ”touch her and die” 💀 vibes 🥵 It is an eventful book with plot twists, romance 🥰 and spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ And I highly recommend it ❤️

My favourite quote is ”I would burn all of Earis for you if you asked me to. I would fight the stars if they dared to dim your light. Every breath, every heartbeat I have would be yours.”

This book is released 4/4 and I can’t wait to get my physical copy of it 📖

An absolutely amazing love story. A girl looking to support herself and finding her fated mate a dragon shifter. It was an amazing slow burn. I was so sorry for Enrik. I felt for Kislav and Anpyhr. I can't wait for book 2.

A very promising start to what I am sure is going to be an amazing series - and I am here for it.

If you like romantasy, with a strong FMC, a broody MMC, a whole host of fantastic supporting characters (who I just know we're going to love getting to know better in upcoming books), fighting, dragons, magic, mages, spice and just wonderful world building, this is the book for you. Not to mention the dual POV.

Sabrina meets Zephyr after she mistakenly thinks that he is looking for someone to babysit baby dragons.. . .(What a great sounding job)
The miscommunication doesn't last too long, and Sabrina and Zephyr quickly become a formidable team.

Both MC's are likeable, and the loyalty that they show each other was perfect.

I really enjoyed the lack of game playing between Sabrina and Zephyr. Far too often, I appear to be reading books where a misunderstanding makes up a ridiculous amount of the book - and for me, it's frustrating as we all know that 9/10 times, it all works out.
Reading something so "to the point " was refreshing.
And how great was the novella at the end? Thank you so much to the author for that. . . although now I'm grumpy because I don't want to have to wait to read more.

I want this book to be the massive success that it deserves to be.

I received a copy of this book from the author through Bookfunnel in exchange for my honest opinion.

A very good start to what I am sure will be a great series😍

I love a good fated mates story, and i loved that in this one, we didn’t have your typical submissive omega female and dominant alpha… our FMC was sassy and knew exactly what she wanted, and she had our big bad alpha wrapped around her finger❤️‍🔥 this is my first Dragon shifter and human romance too, and I loveeeeed it!

We follow Zephyr, our MMC the last living alpha of his bloodline in the Firescale clan, trying to rebuild and strengthen his clan after a brutal war, with the added constant pressure from his council to find his mate and produce an heir. To please his council he tells them he has already found his mate, and then sets out on a mission to find this ‘fake’ mate of his.

This is where we meet our FMC, Sabrina a human omega, who lives day to day, taking on dangerous guild jobs just to get by. Constantly looked down upon and taken advantage of by betas and alphas alike for her Omega status… that is until she comes across a job offer, that introduces her to Zephyr, what starts as Sabrina believing she will just be looking after hatchlings, she soon realises she will actually be the one to produce them… but the two of them soon come to an understanding and an agreement that will benefit them both.

Can she pull this off?
Can the two of them convince the council and clan their bond is real?
Can they keep up the facade, and deny their true feelings they’re both fighting?

“You don’t know how much I’ve prayed to the gods, to the moons, to be graced with you as my fated mate. If I was worthy enough of you, I would worship you for all eternity. I would burn all of Earis for you, if you asked me to. I would fight the stars if they dared to dim your light. Every breath, every heartbeat I have would be yours.”

It was a story full of action, found family, chemistry and perfect, detailed spice😍😍 along with a nice dose of betrayal 💀

I cannot wait for book 2, where side characters Anphyr and Kislav become the main characters😍 I adored these two, they’re so sweet. But what I’m really waiting for is… Enrik😍🤤
Now that’s a grumpy brooding Alpha who’s love story I cannot wait to read!! ❤️‍🔥

When the human Omega Sabrina takes on the job of helping with what she assumes is just babysitting Dragon Hatchlings for the dragon shifter Alpha Zephyr, she gets more than she expected when the job turns out to be a fake mating to produce Hatchlings in order to secure the dragon clan leaders lineage.

Do you know what I love more than insta-love? When the two main characters absolutely refuse to acknowledge or accept and fight it as long as they possibly can before finally giving in and accepting it. It just makes for the spicest of spicy scenes and I absolutely love it!!

This story was Fast paced, but slow burning with a fire that explodes and doesn't stop until the end. The spice was mild but towards the end got very spicy and I absolutely loved the bit of action with the big fight scene. I loved seeing that Sabrina could definitely hold her own even with the twists thrown at her

quotes:

Whatever you do, don’t run from me,” he said, his voice low and edged with warning. “If you run, I’ll be forced to chase you. Dragons can’t resist a good chase.”

“Sabrina,” he whispered, his voice rough, struggling to keep himself in check. “If we keep going, I won’t be able to stop.” I met his gaze, my breath coming in ragged gasps, my heart pounding in my chest. “Then don’t stop,” I whispered...

"You don’t know how much I've prayed to the Gods, to the Moons, to be graced with you as my fated mate. If I was worthy enough of you, I would worship you for all eternity. I would burn all of Earis for you if you asked me to. I would fight the stars if they dared to dim your light. Every breath, every heartbeat I have would be yours.”

“Then go ahead and try to destroy me,” I challenged, my voice a soft but steady declaration. “Try to break me, Zephyr. But I’m not leaving.”

This was a good debut book for the author. Spoilers ahead.

Let me start with my three mostly comes because I found myself drifting in caring for our main couple and wishing that Enrik was her mate instead. This purely comes from my love for snark, cold interactions, and a blazing emotional hot mess under that demeanor. Which we get with Enrik. Hell I was even super invested in Anna and her love life. forbidden romance? Sign me up. So I guess good job on getting us set up for the next few books, but I was kind of bored with our main characters.

The book wasn't exactly a quick read but so much had to take place that I think we missed a little more of that deep character development. The trial practice being only meditation classes, and being done by the enemy? okay. I guess. I am not sure we really felt the urgency of this one because it was a go stand in the lava and try not to get burnt, it just felt like an extra step. Our main character brings up how she completes it more than anyone else, so I just wish she got more of a boost off that one. Zephyr for me just fell flat most the time, him trying to control all of his emotions and feelings means as a reader we get less pining and want in his narrative and more "I am shutting this feeling down" and moving on. we also didn't really get the wanting and pining in Sabrina's narrative either because aside from her heat she was more focused on being the best not omega ever.

Overall, I like the plot and all the background but wanted more depth. I also wanted the epilogue where they are happy if we are moving to the next couple.

I’m freeeeeee!

This book started off pretty well for a cozy lil romance. But then the big trial that the FMC had been training for was over within ONE CHAPTER by around 60%.

Then the plot felt like filler.

The pacing was off and it felt like a slog after this trial.

Any potential conflict was dissolved too quickly - and I wonder if that was intentional, if this was meant to be Very Cozy.

The biggest shame for me was that the FMC and the MMC didn’t have much chemistry - I believe the FMC had farrrrr better chemistry with a side character, who did develop feelings for her. With 40% of the book as filler, this love triangle could’ve been fleshed out better to build more angst and yearning from all three people’s POVs.

Unfortunately for future me, I am interested in reading the next couple - the MMC’s sister and his best friend. UGH. The yearning has been established. The novella was adorable (though riddled with typos and odd creative choices. If they’re 5 and 8, maybe just go with third person rather than first? I don’t need narration from an 8 year old).

If the story didn’t lag after two-thirds, I would’ve happily given this 3/5 stars. If it had build up more tension with the love triangle and the secondary characters, then it would’ve gotten 4/5 stars. If the author had made the stakes higher, included more action and spice, this could’ve been 5/5 stars.

I will always be grateful for those who publish MF OV stories - but I think this genuinely does need some feedback from a long time lover of the genre.

It was so easy to fall into the tale of Sabrina and Zephyr as they overcome not only the internal challenges of their clan but the challenges brought to them.

This story is fast paced and filled with anticipation of what is to come next with clear dynamics between all of the characters that bring it all together.

The teasing of the couple for book 2 has left me keen to see what that story brings and I look forward to exploring this world more.

Thank you Julie for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC.

Dragon shifter, Alpha and clan leader Zephyr seeks out a human Omega (Sabrina) to be his mate, to appease the overbearing clan council and to maintain his position as clan leader. Sabrina joins Zephyr, escaping the subjugation she faces on a daily basis among the humans but to the unknown of the dragon clan.

I loved the fast paced adventure and the flow of the storytelling as Sabrina finds her place among the dragons, and with Zephyr. I devoured this book in a single sitting, just disappointed I have to wait for the next book.

Admittedly, I’m not much of a fantasy reader- I know, I know, a true travesty. However I am a voracious Omegaverse and shifter romance reader so I was SUPER excited when Bookish Bubbly PR and Julie Hardy sent over the ARC for this.

✨ This book is available currently on kindle- I’ve just had a busy month. ✨

Back to the book-

Zephyr has the weight of his clan and tragic memories of the dragon wars on his shoulders and Sabrina is an adventurer who doesn’t let the fact she’s an omega stand in her way.
I really loved the fantasy in this, even the world building was tolerable and entertaining. The smut was *chefs kiss*, and the side characters were interesting enough that they’ll be able to have their own books!

Oh I devoured this book! While I've read a few dragon shifter books in the past, this was my first Omegaverse story, and it definitely won't be my last.

I love a strong female character, and quickly fell for Sabrina. Her background as an adventurer reminded me of one of my RPG characters, doing what she needs to do to earn enough coin to keep herself afloat, and not letting her social status hold her back. Despite being the only human in a fortress full of dragons, she holds her own, and isn't afraid to speak up for herself.

Zephyr was equally likeable for me. He was forced into situations against his will, but did what he could to make the best of it. He definitely had my admiration, rather than pity. From the moment they met I thought to myself "this is gonna get good" but it got a lot better than I expected.

I enjoyed their fast burn relationship, and the spice was delicious. I do seem to have a soft spot for fated mates, and this story made my inner dragon very happy 🐲

I'm really glad Anphyr will feature more in Book 2: Bound by Frost and Fate, as she was definitely my favourite supporting character

I received an ARC copy of this book, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

i got this as an ARC from the author and holy. shit. i devoured this in two days.

as an omega trying to downplay her heritage as well as refuse a mate, sabrina has been living as an adventurer despite being seen as powerless. when she accepts a job that asks for an omega to look after baby dragons, the alpha she meets is not who she expects. zephyr is the leader of his fire dragon clan and has been ordered to side an heir. what follows is an explanation (a real one) of the job sabrina accepts, as well as a navigation of council politics.

i really enjoyed this book, and my favourite character by far was kislav (though enrik was a close second). i do love the broody but loyal best friend. i cannot wait to read the rest of the series.

I was looking for a dragon shifter book that was NOT urban fantasy, and this fit the bill. I don't usually like shifters, but I make an exception for dragons. With that said, the constant use of the terms "omega" and "alpha" started to annoy me. There were typos throughout, and there was a lot of telling. I would have liked a bit more about their respective histories to help see how their characters were shaped. The spicy scenes were good, and the tension worked well, but the romance and trust between them seemed rushed. The conflict of the relationship fell flat to me. Some secondary characters were good, and others didn't seem consistent at all. For example, if Loryr wanted Sabrina to fail, why help at all? And Enrick's character made NO sense to me. He distrusts her, but then he likes her??

I enjoyed this more than I expected to be, this book is so direct to the point and I devoured every chapter of it. Sabrina is such a badass, I just wish she will think rational on her actions tho, but I still love her.
Zephyr is such an iconic character, everyone is scared of him but he’s such so soft around Sabrina, to be honest he’s a baby dragon.
I am so excited for the next installment!

!!!! ARC REVIEW !!!

This one was harder for me to get into. I think it was due to the feeling of it being very ✨YA✨ at first. After being 35% into the book, I started to become more and more intrigued. The concept behind the plot was unique, and by the end of the book I really enjoyed it!

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE!!!!!! The SMUT is very much so NOT ✨YA✨ vibes!!!!! 😩👏🏼🤌🏼

The FMC bothered me at times…. I felt like her commentary/language/demeanor at times wasn’t fluid with the vibe of a fantasy book.

Per usual, to SOME fantasy books, the last several chapters felt rushed at times. Although, I enjoyed how the author did not push/rush the “heir concept” within the last couple of chapters. She left it to where the last chapter will lead up to a great second book. Excited to read more from her!

✨️ARC review ✨️

I've literally ate this book (as fast as I could). This was my first omega verse book as well as the first book from Julie Hardie.

I loved Sabrina and her development to a fierce mate of a strong dragon. She cracked me up, and I kept giggling through the book. I loved her.

Zephyr, the strong leader who showed a softer side of him while with Sabrina, they're perfectly complementing each other.

I did not expect to have enemies in their home, but when the mage marks were mentioned, I made the connection and understood all the ulterior motives.

Honestly, this book can be a modern romance book. A girl who has to defend herself all the time and being independent, and the man who shows her a different life, respect, and boundaries and a healthy (mostly) relationship.

Wow this book was just WOW.
How the pretending turns out to be a strong bond between a dragon and a human. 😍
She, a STRONG human, an omega human, with her own scars and past. He, an alpha dragon who is a leader of his own clan, also with his own scars and past.
The both of them feel like they don't deserve happiness and love because of their scars and past...

I can talk a lot more about this book but I'm so enthousiastic that I will tell a lot of spoilers and that's not what I want. I just want you all to read this book!! You will love it! 🥰❤️

I can't wait for the next book because I want to keep reading about their story and the end... I want another book right now. 📖🫶

Enjoyable read, finished quickly- kept my ADHD mind entertained enough to finish in a couple sessions, definitely an interesting mix of paranormal lore -dragon shifter with a wolf pack like hierarchy but also includes humans and mages…. I would definitely read book two to see where things go with Enrick’s “side quest” as the last of the thunderdragons with the iceclaws versus Sabrina and Zephyr’s main storyline to restore the firescales clan

Sabrina is an unmated human omega and adventurer living on her own. Zephyr is an alpha dragon and the leader of the Firescales Clan. He is being pressured by the clan council to find a mate to secure the future of the clan. He finds himself at a small guild where Sabrina approaches him about his post for babysitting dragon hatchlings. Once Sabrina finds out the job is her posing as his fake mate and producing an heir, she turns him down. Zephyr and his dragon feel a pull towards her, she’s unlike any omega he’s known before.. He is able to convince her and they return to Fireisland. When they arrive they face scrutiny from the counsel, especially Loryr, who demands Sabrina take part in the Soulfire Ritual like all mates of the leader of the Firescales before her. Sabrina not one to back down, agrees. Zephyr faces trouble when their allies, the Iceclaw Clan, arrive asking for assistance against gryphon attacks on their northern borders. They believe mages are behind the attacks.. There are exciting reveals and twists as Zephyr and Sabrina face their troubles and battle together to reach their HEA.

Julie Hardy has created a magical world where humans and dragons alike are designated as either an alpha, beta, or omega. Omega’s being the rarest amongst both. I wanted to know more about the human side of Earis beyond how the few details of Sabrina’s life and why the dragons kept to themselves. The details on the dragon war were limited and I would have liked to have learned more about the beginning and Zephyr’s parents. I loved how they faked being mates and how Sabrina wasn’t afraid to challenge and tease him openly. The banter between them was fun and had me giggling. This is a slow burn with medium heat but when the spice happens, it is worth the wait.

Thank you to Julie Hardy and Bookish Bubbly PR for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Bound by Fire & Scales.
