Los Angeles has stymied the O'Brians' hopes of fleeing once again, and wrought more destruction than any of them could have imagined. And in Oregon, it is not people who threaten the Tills and their friends, but nature herself in book 3 of FOLIANT.
From 4-million-copy bestselling master of thrilling fiction Mike Kraus comes a new epic FOLIANT.
A nerve agent is deployed in cities across the country, and within hours tens of millions are dead - but the worst is yet to come.
Caught in the middle of the attacks in Los Angeles, the vacationing O’Brian family barely survives by the skin of their teeth - but soon find themselves trapped in the midst of a city of the dead. The only way back to their family in Oregon is to go straight through the heart of the charnel house, a prospect that is easier said than done.
Far to the north, in Oregon, the Tills family vineyard is spared the worst of the initial attacks - but the secondary effects may be their undoing as the world falls apart around them.
For those in charge of the response, the attacks are evolving too quickly to predict, and the country’s final undoing may be closer than anyone realizes as the terrible attacks have only just begun....
FOLIANT is a thrilling 6-book series that blurs the line between technothriller, post-apocalyptic thriller and all-too-real possible predictor of the future. Written by 4-million-copy bestselling author Mike Kraus and published by Muonic Press, A Monument of Rust is book 3 in this epic series.

The O'Brians and Tills feel the heat! Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2025 A Monument Of Rust, book 3 in the Foliant series, picks up right where When Hope Is Lost leaves off, with the O'Brian clan and their special guest surviving the firestorm that devastated L.A in paddle boats in a pond, while the Tills and their group must prepare to deal with a firestorm of their own, all while the government struggles to get back on their feet and begin aid distribution, and a CBRN team makes a chilling discovery and an obscure military base offers hope. The writing is so well composed, the characters so empathetic and believable and the descriptions so clear and vivid that readers experience the book as much as read it! Kraus is the master of cliffhangers, always leaving the reader wanting more! This series is among Kraus' best, even compared to many of the series he co-wrote with several other excellent authors. 5/5 stars, highly recommended for any fans of superb apocalyptic survival thrillers and technothrillers! If you haven't started the Foliant series, you are missing out, if you haven't read A Monument Of Rust, you're missing out on a great book!
I like the story, the characters and the writing. Little taken back about how long it’s taken one of our groups to get out of LA County and why radio operators would all of a sudden stop monitoring the radios and leave the building, with that the story is still good. Our group in Oregon is working hard to survive and I look forward to where it will lead. Now my big problem with this edition…..I don’t like it when writers play super loose with maps. Mission Hills is no where near Hwy 138. Hwy 138 does not pass through the Angeles National Forest, in fact runs behind it., it does pass through the San Bernardino NF though. The Palm Springs Airport is no where near Mission Hills, but the Palmdale Airport is and…….Edwards AF base is only a bit farther north. Anyway, ignore the locations and enjoy the continuing story!
Mike Kraus's new FOLIANT series, reaches Book 3, A Monument Of Rust. Two separated families - the O'Briens in LA and the Tills' in Oregon, face terrible danger after a major biohazard attack on the US. The former have saved the life of Timothy McAdams ...the POTUS. Meanwhile the latter, at their vineyard, face wildfires and hostiles too. Who survives against all the odds?
Don't miss A Monument Of Rust...it's an action-packed survival-thriller, that will keep your imagination firmly gripped throughout!
I waited until I finished the first four to submit my review. I read a lot of the end times books, this one grabs hold and keeps you reading. The character development is excellent in the first book so the rest of the time you feel like you're reading about family. The next in the series will be released August 15, and I really just can't wait! Hope anyone who enjoys this genre will grab the great read by Mike Kraus and enjoy it as much as I did!
This was a very good addition to a good series. I like the adventures on the O'Brians and the Tills and the increased role of President McDouglas (and now we have two Presidents). I like President Jane but am still bothered that her part always switches to a present tense mode. We still have a big mystery as to the nature of the attack and who perpetrated it, but with a bit more info. I look forward to Book 4.
pretty much as expected! Typical post apocalyptic plot!
Plots need to be revised! People’s interpretation of events os usually wrong. Sometimes good people fir, but at times they also prevail! Every apocalyptic novel casts people in an “ evil “ quest for individual survival. Survival is a goal for all living things, but it needs to be not dominate the plot. While I enjoyed this book, I am aware the storyline is a little thin!
Holy smoke, this was such a good story that I am busting already for the next book. A Monument of Rust continues with the dangers and dramas that face our families. Foliant Three is another very entertaining read. Well done.
The O’Brians are in trouble once more. Nature is totally against them trying to find a way to safety. Where will they go, will they get there in time. Another great story that won’t disappoint and make you want to read more.
This is a really enjoyable continuation to the story. I found it well written with really good ideas & I finished it in one day, I enjoyed it so much! Good energy & some action, pretty much everything you want in a post apocalyptic story. I do recommend this & the previous parts to the series.
Jason and family continue their way with the rescued President, meantime Sam's parent continue to protect the vines. Each fighting, as best they can their enemy, the fires. Lots.of action to keep you reading .
I love this series! The author uses too many adjectives and and I have to look them up as they are obscure. Please stop doing that and your books will be so much better. The story is great but too much technical detail is given
The story continues with the characters facing and beating many challenges. Well written and great plot throughout. Now have to wait for the next installment to come out.
