Happiness Ever After #2

The Elusive Billionaire

Rate this book
From Amazon best-selling author Avery Maxwell comes an enemies-to-lovers, small-town billionaire romance with a fake engagement, scandalous small-town gossip, a storm that traps them together, and a secret that could destroy them both.

One storm. One bed. One unforgettable night. One big mistake.

Savvy
Getting trapped with Greyson Reyes during a hurricane was not part of my plan. He’s grumpy, gorgeous, and the town’s most eligible billionaire. Oh, he’s also the man who has hated me since the day all my secrets blew up in our faces.
Worse, he’s even better at getting me naked than he is at getting under my skin. And he’s very good at that.

Grey
There’s only one thing I can’t forgive—betrayal. And Savvy Monroe not only crossed that line, she decimated it.
Now she’s stuck under my roof, in my bed, and testing every ounce of my control. The town gossip mill is placing bets on wedding bells, but I’m the kind of man who doesn’t get a happily ever after.

Which is why no one is more surprised than I am at how protective I become when Savvy’s past comes back to haunt her.

Hi, I’m Avery!

I write steamy small towns with big found families—the kind of romances that make your heart race and your soul sigh.

My books, like The Westbrooks, Single Dad Hotline, and Happiness Ever After series, are filled with swoon-worthy heroes, messy but lovable heroines, and small towns you’ll want to call home.

When I'm not writing, I live in joyful chaos with my husband and four kids. You can usually find me cheering on the sidelines at their sporting events, sneaking in writing sprints, or slipping into coffee shops for my daily caffeine fix.

Savvy Monroe & Greyson Reyes do not like each other, so when they get stuck in the same house as a hurricane comes crashing by it might lead to an interesting twist. Stuck with your attractive enemy might have them fighting or becoming more than just enemies…you can only fight the pull for so long! They had an accidental misunderstanding in the past that turned them for f* buddies to enemies. Maybe one storm can bring them together closer than before. What an emotional at times yet fun enemies to lovers romance with quite a twist. These two are great together and you truly felt their loathing for each other but still fighting with their true feelings. Very well written. If you love a good banter between the main characters then you will definitely enjoy this! Told in first Person and dual POV.

It’s weird but I liked Grey & Savvy in the first book, but this book was a bit ‘yuck’ for me. The sex was over the top graphic and unnecessary and started in the first quarter of the story.
Grey bordered on being obsessed with Savvy and I don’t understand the devotion when she wasn’t particularly nice to him. It was just really confusing when the turning point came.. from hating her to being over the top in love.
Felt mixed up and rushed.

Ahhh!!! Another win by Avery!! I was INSTANTLY hooked the second I opened the book! The opening chapter was absolutely perfect and set up their story so well. Avery did such an incredible job with the way she handled their journey and all the moments that kept leading them back to one another.

Their banter and the way they were adorably competitive with each other was everything! I couldn’t get enough of the incredible chemistry these two shares. It was the perfect balance of love and hate while they were both secretly pining for one another.

Avery proved once again why she’s an auto-buy author for me! Her books always have the perfect mix of humor and heart!

Savvy & Grey have always toed the line between love and hate. But when Grey finds out a secret Savvy's been hiding, he cuts her out of his life and wants nothing to do with her. But now, 6 months later, she ends up stuck in his house during a major hurricane.

This one is strong on the enemies to lovers for a long time. They hate each other with a passion but that passion definitely gets taken to the bedroom no matter how much they try to stay away. The spice was hot between them - hellooooo twister! 🥵 Threats from the past arrive and Grey vows to do whatever it takes to protect Savvy. Insert a fake marriage of convenience even though Savvy was against it. You can literally feel the hurt and the pain and the betrayal from both of them. They fought hard to avoid their deep feelings for each other but seeing them finally (albeit slowly) opening up and learning to trust each other was beautiful. They helped heal each other and they both needed & deserved that. I love this town called Happiness and love all the side characters. I'm looking forward to what comes next.

The Elusive Billionaire releases November 5. Thanks so much to Avery Maxwell for this ARC.

Our girl, Avery, strikes again!! This book may very well be her best book yet!

Savvy, our independent, sexy, powerful FMC is truly broken. Her trauma from her childhood and teenage years has nearly crushed her. She hides it all from her found family in the small town of Happiness. All Savvy wants is to be loved and cared for by the people she loves.

Grey, the grumpy Billionaire and hot MMC, arrives in Happiness to take care of his brother and nephew. And he sets Savvy on fire! They are fire and ice! Neither of them have the ability to share their past traumas or any honesty at all.

This enemies-to-lovers story will make you laugh, cry, cheer and throw things!! Once Grey sees Sav for who she truly is, he falls first. And, wow, does he fall!!

Grey loves her so hard, she just can’t believe it. The tender side of him is everything you want in your book boyfriend!!

A highlight or two or more:

Grey:

“Memorize the feel of me. And I know that when you’re a hundred years old, I was the one who knew you, loved you, and understood you from the inside out”

“And after I learn what makes you tick, I’ll ensure you have the fairytale you dream of yet don’t dare to reach for”

“I need to feel your body and know that while he marred your skin, he didn’t break you”

Savvy:

“But sometimes vulnerability breeds fragility, and Greyson is the kryptonite to all my protective layers”

“with Grey, it’s not hitting like a weakness. Instead it heals like a stitch in the fabric of my story, and he’s the one holding the needle”

“I want you to hold my power safe so I can let go because I know you won’t try to take it from me forever - just for a little while so I can be breathe - so I can be free”

And one last quote that made me truly LOL

“hotter than a preacher’s collar at a strip club”

Absolutely grab this book! You will definitely thank me later!!

I was a little surprised by just how quickly I flew through this one. I knew Savvy was hiding things. I knew Greyson was, too. But I didn’t quite imagine the extent of some secrets, or the damage that they’ve done and could continue to do.

Don’t get me wrong. There’s a ton of family and love and humor here, as I’ve come to expect from this author. But amid the sometimes-corny events or people, there are very real, very serious issues covered. And the fact that Avery puts a piece of herself into this one (like she has with others), is brave and only lends to the believability of this tale.

So while Greyson learns to let go of that control a bit, and Savannah learns to do the same while trusting that someone is truly on her side in this fight, we also see just how MUCH Greyson observes. And the same goes for Savannah. Even when I got angry at the words flung to hide the sting of perceived betrayals, I understood the underlying hurt. And I knew that the misery of this ride would be more than soothed by the love that Greyson and Savannah so richly deserve in the end.

Now I wait for something that’s bound to break hearts. I just hope Clover and I both survive it. And that we see more of some brothers in the future, as well.

Welcome back to Happiness, GA! I was so excited to jump back into this town and these characters. I have been so excited for Savvy and Greyson’s story!

We find out right away why they seem to hate each other…and it gets a little complicated. Greyson feels betrayed but he doesn’t know the whole story…and Savvy is terrified her past is coming back to haunt her. They have this amazing chemistry and connection but is that enough?

This book is emotional and really had me in my feels. They have this push and pull that kept me on the edge of my seat - I was really rooting for them to get it together. And banter…so much banter!

There are some tough (yet important) topics - I also recommend reading the author’s note and how some of Savvy’s experiences were very personal to her. Savvy and Greyson both have some things to work through and we get some great character growth as they start to learn to love themselves too.

But this book is not all serious. It’s also funny and full of small town shenanigans and quirky characters. The friendships and sense of found family are so good too! I highly recommend giving this a read!

I will be honest. cause that's what I do. this book was good. but not the work I am used to from this author. I would like to focus on the idea that this author writes in a way that is therapeutic for her. almost to come to terms with past issues. savy the lead female is Avery I imagine. from her height to her control/eating issues she once suffered from. I do respect an author that can conjure up a character that aligns with her past then the author pours her emotions into the characters and has to walk away. meaning the end of the book.
I did enjoy many aspects of the book but found it very long and maybe too personal. this book might hit perfect for some and it might help you heal. but for me I lost my focus often due to the length of the book. but Avery told one heck of a story between two very wounded adults.

I still can’t believe how fast I read this book. I’ve always said I’m not a big fan of romance novels over 400 pages, and only a handful have truly managed to capture and hold my attention. This one absolutely did. From the very first chapter, you’re pulled in and completely immersed in the story until the final page.

What I really appreciated is that even without the romance, this would still be a great story. It delivers a very cinematic, movie-like experience on its own. The romance is thoughtfully woven into the plot and feels purposeful, never forced. There’s no spice thrown in just for the sake of it; everything serves the story.

I’ve said it a million times and I’ll keep saying it. There are so many romance books out there that start to feel the same after a while. When an author manages to create something that stands out from the crowd, it instantly earns a spot on my auto-buy list.

The chemistry between these two was absolutely off the charts—intense, fiery, and impossible to ignore, even when they were busy insisting they hated each other. Once they finally moved from enemies to lovers, their relationship felt precious and hard-earned, especially given the weight of their childhood trauma and the sheer number of obstacles they had to overcome. The found family and group of friends surrounding them added so much warmth and depth to the story, making the journey feel even more rewarding.

That said, I really wish authors would stop leaning so heavily on the “asshole male lead” trope. In this case, both characters were pretty awful at the start, but Grey was worse. His refusal to accept her apology when she messed up, combined with his lack of clarity about his feelings, created unnecessary drama that dragged things out. It made it harder to root for them once they finally settled into their love, because the toxicity of their earlier dynamic lingered. Hate-to-love can be written in a way that leaves both characters strong and sympathetic, but here the balance was off, especially in the beginning.

Still, this was a good read overall, and I cannot wait for Clover and Valen’s story—I already know it’s going to wreck me in the best way. I’m also crossing my fingers for a Roman novel (and hopefully the rest of his siblings too). On a side note, Savannah’s brother was absolutely horrible, and the forgiveness extended to Quinn and Bethany felt way too quick for my liking.

A flawed but compelling romance, with a found family dynamic that makes me excited to keep following this series.

Ahhhh, Avery did it again!!! The first book in the Happiness Ever After, The Renegade Billionaire, is my most favorite read from Avery so far and I'm elated to learn this sequel does not disappoint! I've been dying to read Grey and Savvy's story after meeting them in the previous book, and now that I get to learn more about them, they certainly have a special spot in my heart. I love how genuinely Grey cares about Savvy despite all the enemies-to-lovers vibes thrown around and how he also helps her find herself when she's completely lost in life. The eating disorder reference in this book is also well-depicted and I truly appreciate how such a sensitive topic is openly discussed here. Make sure to check the other trigger warnings before diving into this one, though! Overall, The Elusive Billionaire is an amazing read and I can't wait for the next book, The Forgotten Billionaire!

Happiness Georgia gets a little quirkier with each and every book. We meet both Grayson and Savvy in the Reluctant Billionaire so I was super excited to read their story and it did not disappoint. Savvy has a past she is trying desperately to avoid and Grayson is a Billionaire who has a yearning to be a dad. Grayson and Savvy clash instantly and often but when Savvy and Grayson end up corresponding online through alias, they pour their true selves into each message. Savvy is the first to figure out who Grayson is but she continues the ruse. Grayson’s reacting hen he finds out ends in his shutting won but when a natural disaster forces them together they have to work through their emotional baggage to get their happily ever after.

Whew. This book is an emotional rollercoaster in the very best way. Both Grayson and Savvy go on a journey in this book. For a good portion of this book you just want to shack some sense into each or both of them. What you will love about this book is Grayson. Reading his story and journey will give you all the feels. I absolutely adored this pairing!! This story has it all, spice, a song heroine, and grumpy and protective hero, quirky townspeople, and a splash of suspense. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Happiness.

Savvy and Greyson have been fighting and having hate s•x since he came to town with his brother months ago. They hate each other…or do they? When Savvy does something unforgivable, Greyson leaves town, but when he’s back and they get stuck together during a hurricane, things heat up. When a dangerous person from Savvy’s past shows up, Greyson can’t help but be overprotective. Can their relationship survive the baggage they both carry?

OH MY GOSH, this book is PHENOMENAL! I love Greyson and Savvy’s story even more than I loved Braxton and Madi’s in The Elusive Billionaire which was also a five-star read for me. Greyson and Savvy are both incredibly stubborn and incredibly hot for each other. They can’t stand each other during the day, but night is a different story. I absolutely love Greyson and his determination to support Savvy in the best way that he can. He’s sensitive and smart and open to do whatever Savvy needs. He learns to be a partner and support her instead of just trying to fix her. Savvy is strong and sassy and smart, but worried that she’ll never be enough. Together, the two are electric. I love the girl squad and the found family aspects of this book. The small town of Happiness, Georgia, is as charming as can be. If you love a book with drama, romance, passion, and all the feels, then this one is for you.

I cannot recommend this book enough. It’s fabulous, but do check your trigger warnings if you have sensitivities. Read The Elusive Billionaire and let me know what you think - I’d love to discuss!

The Elusive Billionaire is the second book in the Happiness Ever After Series. It is a small town, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, found family romance that will keep you turning the page. Prepare yourself for the roller coaster that Grey and Savvy are about to take you on.

Please check that shopping list before diving into The Elusive Billionaire, especially if you struggle with eating disorders. Avery did an amazing job writing this one. If you are looking for your next book that screams girl power you’ll love the ladies of Happiness GA.

Both the MMC and the FMC have experienced great losses and have built walls around their hearts. As a result they tend to not trust the ones around them and only allow a select few to get close enough to them. The character growth that both of these characters go through is written perfectly, in my opinion. “Because I realized something else today. You might be the only person I know who has more trust issues than I do, and I’m afraid if I don’t take the first step, you’ll never open the door to your heart. Luckily for both of us, I’m okay with being a pushy bastard and breaking the lock you hold so tightly.”

Ahh…if you haven’t added Grey and Savvy’s story to your tbr you’re missing out. I absolutely loved this couple. The Elusive Billionaire is definitely going to be one of my favorite reads for the month of November. There is so much heartbreak in this one, not mention the suspense kept me on my toes! I highly recommend this one!

“There are two kinds of pancake eaters. Do you dip, or do you soak them in syrup?” Thank you, Grey for having my question how I and others eat their pancakes. 😈

This book made me feel everything.

Savannah and Grey start with dislike, but they have a lot of passion. However, the feelings change when Grey feels sudden betrayal by Savvy and, for six months, cuts her out of his life completely. Savvy, wanting to apologize and explain, ends up putting herself in danger to get to him during a storm. They are stranded together, and slowly, bit by bit, mend their relationship. Of course, that is only the beginning of this beautifully written and poignant story.

Avery Maxwell created an emotional story with humor sprinkled throughout. I loved these two characters. They are just right for each other, even if they couldn’t see it themselves. The heat between the two is explosive and equally sweet and spicy. When Grey realizes something that Savvy experiences in her life, he immediately dives in to fix her. I love how much Grey and Savvy realize and grow in their story. They both understand that reaching out to others for help isn’t a sign of weakness, but rather a demonstration of strength and trust. Grey realizes that standing next to someone to give them support will give them the strength to heal and, in a sense, fix themselves. I love the community and found family Grey, Braxton, and Sage have found in Happiness, Georgia. I can’t wait for the next story from Ms. Maxwell’s world.

Grey & Savannah

This is a beautifully told story! Grey & Savvy both have a lot of trauma to work through & I wasn't really a fan of the times they're mean to each other. Even when they're 🔥🌶 physically, they were holding back emotionally. When they opened up to each other, they still struggled, but were trying.

They both have such amazing hearts! They love fiercely & deeply. I love the things Grey does to show Sav he loves her. ❤️

I love the characters, friendships, town dynamic...! The suspense was a little off for me (there were just some things I never really "got" in that part of the plot) but the emotions in everything were deeply well crafted, and enjoyable even when my heart was breaking! And it's definitely not devoid of humor. Grey can actually be hilarious! Who knew? 😄

Loved the story & I'm looking forward to the next adventure with this group!

I still like Happiness, and all of the shenanigans that come with a ridiculous tight knit small community, and I’m glad that Grey got his happy ending in The Elusive Billionaire. I do feel like this book was just a little longer than it needed to be, and I think it would’ve been a full five stars for me with some more critical editing. I liked how explosive Savvy and Grey were in the beginning of their relationship, and I thought that the way that they learned each other and themselves was thoughtful and introspective. Grey seemed to lose a little bit of his spark once he realized how in love he was though, and he almost turned into a puppy. As much as I love an MMC who is completely gone for his girl, I think again maybe some more editing may have helped here. Overall, I liked the book a lot and I do plan to come back for book 3.

I really wanted to like this and will admit that I did not read the first in the series but it felt like I opened it in the middle of 5 different stories. There was way too much going on with way too many stories. The complete change in attitude and feelings from Grey did not seem realistic and there were just too many problems going on at once. Considering it feels like the main story started before this book the rest just sort of dragged on. I don’t feel we ever got real answers on Savvy’s brother and former best friend to figure out what happened there. Especially her former best friend, she was just never heard from. The details on the mole (I forgot her name) that was engaged to Riley just seemed thrown in there and left unfinished. I have no desire to go back and read the first and couldn’t even think about reading the third.

Savvy Monroe and Greyson Reyes hate each other with passion. It wasn't always like that, but a misunderstanding turned their lust into hate. Now, a hurricane forces them to be in the same house. The chemistry and connection are undeniable. But the hate and the hurt? They are powerful.

Secrets, so many secrets. Both have hurtful pasts, and the reality is none of them know the whole story. They do, however, have banter for days. They are explosive and stubborn. And they have more in common than they think. When Savvy's past threatens her, Grey vows to protect her.

The Elusive Billionaire is emotional, yet elegantly balanced with fun and laughter. I'm always in awe of how real Avery Maxwell's characters always feel. She always puts parts of herself in the books, and it is humbling and eye-opening. So, no wonder Savvy and Grey's story is unforgettable.

The Elusive Billionaire by Avery Maxwell

A storm trapped, enemies to lovers romance that leans hard into tension, chemistry, and small town chaos. What makes this book special is the emotional payoff. The forced proximity is done right, the resentment feels earned, and watching guarded characters slowly crack under pressure is deeply satisfying. Add in scandalous gossip and a fake engagement, and it’s impossible not to get hooked.

Tropes & Vibes:
🌪️ Storm trapped forced proximity
💍 Fake engagement
😤 Enemies to lovers
🏡 Small town gossip
💼 Grumpy billionaire MMC

Read this if you like:
High tension romance, emotionally charged enemies to lovers, protective MMCs, small town drama, and one bed situations that spiral fast.

3.75 ☆ I was soooo excited for this one, and I appreciate the length and detail AM put into this story. That being said, Grey and Savvy were soooooo toxic, triggeringly toxic. A billionaire CEO who's acting like Jack Skellington ("what's this? what's this? it's not hate, could it be love?!") and is objectively awful to most people around him, and a very very very broken woman who needs so much therapy before she should even contemplate talking to a romantic partner. I wanted to love this, but the toxicity was too much for me at times, and they really glossed over what would have been the *real* aftermath of all that (intensive therapy, ptsd, etc). I hope others aren't as bothered by these things as I was - I do love AM novels!

4.3 - this was another great read! I was locked in from the beginning (because it was set up so well in the last book) and couldn’t wait to learn more about their relationship. It was interesting starting kind of in the middle of this story and was nice. Still def had tension and back and forth

it feels like so much happened in this and between Grey and Savvy. We really had both ends of the spectrum. I appreciate about this story that the FMC is the holdout and the men melt. I had the gigs in this as well esp during the contest Can really appreciate that when the men in this series lock in, they do not waver

actions parts were crazy and wow this took turns I wasn’t expecting. Once again set the next book up well

NEEDS MORE STARS

This book was absolutely over the top good. Grey and Savvy were explosive from the first time meeting. Grey is Braxton's best friend, business partner, and newly discovered half brother. Grey is the grumpy one. Always trying to be one step ahead of every situation and fix it. Savannah Monroe is part of the 4 best friends in Happiness. She's the sex therapist with a secretive past. This book is a MUST READ, and I will be purchasing a hard copy of both books for my favorite collection. This book touches on eating disorder and a few other issues. It's very gut wrenching and heartfelt. I absolutely loved everything about this book. Definitely a 10 star 🌟 in my book!

Wow this romance was explosive and a bit messy to be honest. Greyson and Savvy had so much to over come and work on. What started as steamy hate fucks turned into so much more when two people in Savvy’s life became. Instead of confronting Grey she kept writing him knowing who he was and keeping him In the dark. When Greyson finds out it destroys him and everything that they shared together. It takes a natural disaster to force them back together to talk about what happened. The spice in this book is on another Level!!!!!! Omg Greyson has got some skills!!!!!
It takes a lot of grown on both sides to finally see eye to eye. When Savvy’s life is in danger and her past catches up to her he doesn’t think twice about stepping in to be her hero

“My fear is what if, after all these wars, I realize I don’t actually hate you at all?”

I love an enemies to lovers trope. The Elusive Billionaire fits the bill. We have Savvy and Grey. These two have been hating each other since they met. There’s a fine line between love and hate. Savvy and Grey are the perfect examples of that. Their story was just so good. I loved the banter between the two. There are heavy issues addressed in this book. They were interwoven amazingly and at times helped the story move along. I was lost reading about the townspeople of Happiness, Georgia. The Elusive Billionaire introduces the next billionaire in the series and it will be good one.

This might be one of the longest books I have read in a good while but it was a million times worth it!
Reminds me of what I love most about romance. Not just for the good but the messy stuff too. If there is one thing Avery can do well it is infuse a ton of heart into a story, she digs deep and it shows. Reading this book feels like a warm hug with a swift kick to the feels and something about that is just right. And that is exactly what this story is, just so right.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention that she put a serious heap more spice in this one, and I am not even a little mad at that. Well. Done. I may never look at Twister the same way again, haha!

I really loved Savvy and Grey, the love and hate relationship that they had going on since book one and the way that after the secret came out and having no contact for a while, Savvy and Grey were forced to spend time together and hear each other out when they were stranded together in Grey’s house during a hurricane. Getting to know Grey better and see more behind his cold and strict billionaire mask was truly amazing to see, seeing him opening up not just with Savvy but also with the whole town and by the end bringing himself to start going to therapy to work on his childhood trauma. And the same goes for Savvy, it was so special and painful to explore Savvy’s past and see where she started, where she is at now, and how her past and her family still affects her today.

If you love broody billionaires, a fake engagement, forced proximity, found family, a supportive small town, and all the healing and love, then you should definitely give this book a go. Oh and let me just tell you, even though they always said it was a fake relationship and engagement, the ring was very much real, just like the one Grey custom ordered from London, and the chemistry and relationship between those two was never truly fake.
