Romance Fade to Black Trigger Violence, Miscarriage, Birth Trauma
Lee and Askels apocalyptic story very much reminded me of the hunger games/divergent series. Lee is a total badass who will do anything to protect her loved ones and I loved her character immediately. I did struggle to keep up with the characters in the beginning as there were several mentioned but I did love the story line and the story of Lee Askel and Max and their friendship.
Excellent post-apocalyptic tale of husband and wife navigating being hunted down by a mysterious gang called the Red Riot. This story builds slowly at first, but flashbacks give context, and by the end I was ready to deep dive into this world. The possibilities for where this series can go next are exciting.
"No matter how many battles I fought or how much blood I spilled, the anticipation of danger still clenched my lungs and quickened my breath. The thrill of survival never dulled, not even after all the lives I'd taken."
This book is everything that I needed when I was stuck in my Hunger Games reading slump back in 2012. Beverlee, a woman seeking not just vengeance, but peace after being **hunted** for 7 years by the Reds. Aksel, an outdoor loving man who yearns to be at peace with his family but knows his presence brings potential threats. Max, who loved to turn the deadest of situations into something light with human.
"We were a team - all of us - bound by survival and trust."
This book is if the Purge met the Last of Us (with no zombies, but instead hired men to kill her). Corrupt government undertaking.
The love between Aksel and Lee is just divine btw. I love to find rare books that don't have spice but don't **need** it to tell a compelling romance. 10/10. We all need an Aksel in our lives.
This was a gritty adventure I didn’t see coming. It starts off slow and meaningful, and builds steam pretty quickly and I wasn’t able to put it down. The entire book flowed seamlessly, and I like how the cast of characters blossomed. I also really enjoyed seeing multiple facets of the main character, from naive but tough, to the woman she develops into, which I think a lot of readers may be able to relate to. Her relationship with Aksel was endearing with how much he just supported her, who she is at her core, and what she is capable of in terms of strength and decisions she makes throughout the book. All in all, this was a fantastic dystopian novel, the kind where you need a palate cleanser book afterwards, which for me, is a tell tale sign it was good.
***Warning Spoilers***I haven’t read a dystopian in a while and this was quite enjoyable! The pace was slow in the beginning, but picked up in the second half. Tons of likable characters and romance that wasn’t toxic 😂 Big fan of Amelia and the way AE Myers describes her marriage/family life after the Fall. It was a small sanctuary in the world of chaos. I would be interested to know more about how Link was able to gain so many followers, plus what it actually looked like when the Fall just beginning (before Lee knew Link was involved in it). Would also love a little more backstory into Aksel & Lee’s relationship before the Fall!
I was honored to be chosen as an ARC reader but I’ve also already purchased the book as well because I love it so much. I cannot wait to read more about this world and learn more about the characters I have come to know and root for. This indie author’s debut could not have been better. I got completely lost in the story and couldn’t stop reading —until my toddler inevitably needed me.
The conflict—internal and external, the evolution, and the courage and strength and sheer will are all things I think so many people can understand and relate to. Fighting for life and for what is right are incredibly relatable causes. I think anyone would enjoy this book.

And it doesn't let you go until you've finished. Whew! It was a fast read, mostly because I simply couldn't stop. The characters, the storyline and the execution were flawless! I want to say it's my favorite read this year... but I don't know when the 2nd installment is coming, so we'll just say "so far" this year. There were plot twists that I didn't see coming, romance that didn't make you turn red, action around nearly every page turn, and characters that made you fall in love with them. Overall it was a great read!
This dystopian thrill ride was written by a local author and wow…I’m so glad I found it. It’s a near future apocalypse where society has crumbled, and one woman, Lee, steps up as a fierce protector of the innocent. She’s not just surviving. She’s fighting back with her husband Aksel. But when Lee stands her ground, the hunt becomes personal. Red Rite is a gritty, emotional post apocalyptic story for readers who crave more than just action.
This book was SO good! The story line and characters are well thought out. I like how Amy kept flashing back to show how they got to present day. I appreciate the lack of graphic spice. (I’d be comfortable if my 17yo daughter read this book.) Their love shows they’re still human in a horrible, post apocalyptic world. I love the praying. And the family-centeredness (is that a word?!).
This book is amazing! It hooks you in from the very beginning. When I wasn't reading it I was thinking about it and what was possibly going to happen next. Especially when there was a new plot twist. This is the first dystopian book I've read in a long time and it has proven just as good as some of my favorites. The ending left me excited for the rest of the series to come out
My mom bought this book for us to enjoy together during a weeklong beach vacation but it only took us two days to finish this amazing read! Great character development, allowing the reader to easily connect with the story. Can’t wait for the next book!!!
This book was INSANE in the best way. I had no idea what to expect going into it and I was not disappointed. It was well written, gripping, tense, and realistic. I’m planning to get my mom a copy for Mother’s Day this year. I 100% recommend getting your hands on this book.
