Contemporary Romance -Friends to Lovers story about the guy next door.
When the woman of your dreams only sees you as her geeky neighbor, sometimes you have to go to extremes. Computer nerd Dylan Crane has been in love with Erin since she moved next door two years ago. Unfortunately, she’s never seen him as anything other than her best friend—until one afternoon when her world flips upside down and everything changes. Erin Sharp learns firsthand just how sexy a man with a brain can be. She already loved Dylan, her friend, but as their relationship evolves, she wonders if she could finally have it all. When her career ambitions get in the way of their relationship, Erin has to decide what matters most to her – getting the job she always wanted, or the man she needs and desires.
I am happily married to an amazing man. We have two children and the requisite 2 dogs.
After picking up my first romance book in my teens, I was hooked on the happily ever after. Sure it's often a bumpy road to get there, but then the best things in life are worth fighting for.
There were a lot of great things about THE GEEK NEXT DOOR. I really enjoyed both the hero and heroine. They were both strong and likeable...I was really rooting for them to end up together. Of course, you know every romance with an HEA has to have a conflict that eventually gets resolved and this romance was no exception.
I always like a good story where the most unlikely people end up in a romantic relationship--in this case, if you happened to miss it from the title it was the beauty and the geek. Dylan, the geek turned sex god behind closed doors, makes me want to stop and re-evaluate my preconceived notions about the nerds of the world...
If you are looking to change your mind on the geeks of the world, then THE GEEK NEXT DOOR will definitely give you the confidence you need to change your perception of that nerdy exterior!

Cute story about a girl realizing her attraction to the geek next door. Who honestly doesn't sound THAT geeky. She's really lucky he can make jokes about his own geekiness. He seems like a really great guy. And they really had great chemistry.
I will admit, I have come to expect high quality from Liquid Silver Books, and have not been disappointed. This steamy novella falls into one of my favorite categories, and though it took me a couple days to read, this was more a matter of being distracted by the holidays and work; pulling myself away was no easy task.
I loved Dylan. Really, in a romance, you want to love the hero, and I did. I completely loved him. He was sweet, intelligent, a little uncoordinated, fiercely loyal, and he didn’t compromise who he was. To top it off, he was devilishly sexy and wholly unaware of it. Throw in that he’s in love with his neighbor and good friend, Erin, and he was pretty much my ideal hero.
I didn’t like Erin as much, but that certainly wasn’t a failing. The heroine was a little selfish and career-oriented, and though she objected internally to some of the things her boss asked of her, she went along with it, which was realistic given her character and something with which I could sympathize. She did do her best to “make over” Dylan in terms of appearance; another thing I understood and felt was believable for the character, but indicated she was drawn more by the outside than the inside—at least in a passing way Erin didn’t outright intend. This was addressed, thankfully, and the book’s resolution satisfied any misgivings I might have others had.
Likewise, my own inner geek appreciated a number of references. Unlike Erin, I did know exactly who Deanna Troi is, and that makes me rather proud.
Reviewed for THC Reviews The Geek Next Door is a stand-alone, erotic, contemporary, romance novella that’s on the shorter side. In it we have computer nerd Dylan and attorney Erin who’ve been neighbors and friends for a while. Dylan has a major crush on Erin and would like it if she’d see him as a man, but she seems to have friend-zoned him pretty hard. They’ve made a pact that he’ll attend a work party with her if she’ll go to Comi-Con with him. Then Erin sees Dylan without his shirt one day, realizes he looks darn good for a geek, and starts having lustful thoughts for her friend that quickly turn into a steamy encounter. Afraid of the feelings he’s aroused in her, Erin runs a little scared, but soon after, it happens again… and again. Dylan and Erin can’t seem to keep their hands off each other and real feelings are starting to take root between them. But when Erin’s boss asks her to do something unethical involving Dylan to win over a major client, she’ll have to decide which is more important to her: her career ambitions to make partner at the firm or the man she’s starting to fall in love with.
Being married to a geek, I’m a huge pushover for any romances involving geeky characters, so I absolutely loved Dylan. He’s a smart computer programmer with all the requisite geeky interests and friends, but at the same time, he stays fit and is very sexy in a rumpled, chaotic sort of way. Most of all, I admired his loyalty and honor. He’s very principled when it comes to right and wrong. He’s mostly a beta hero, but I like that he has a healthy fantasy life and isn’t afraid to sometimes take charge in the bedroom. Erin is very ambitious and willing to do almost anything to make partner at her law firm. I was a little disappointed that she even entertained the idea of giving in to her boss’s unethical request, although she does have some qualms about it and eventually has a turnaround. She’s also a little judgmental toward Dylan’s geeky interests and friends, but again she does apologize for her insensitive remarks. As a heroine she perhaps could have been better, as we’re only given the barest glimpse into her background that drives her. Since she ultimately didn’t ruffle my feathers in any major way, though, she was OK. Things go from 0 to 60 between Dylan and Erin within about a chapter, but since they’d been friends for a while, it didn’t bother me overmuch. They have great chemistry and the steamy scenes are done well. However, they do tend to skip from one decision to the next without a lot of thought going into it. A part of me wished the story had been longer to flesh out the characters and their relationship a little more, but overall, The Geek Next Door was a pretty good story. For any reader looking for a friends-to-lovers romance with some mindless, sexy times and a side-helping of geekiness, this novella just might fit the bill.
Note: This book contains explicit language and sexual situations, which could be objectionable to sensitive readers. However, aside from a finger at the back door, there isn’t anything too kinky or out there.
I don't relate well with the girl who has a sexy nerd as a neighbor and wants to change him to fit into her life. I mean... that's like one of my fantasies! Nerd me up, baby! I'll play WoW with you if you take your pants off!
Erin was a total bitch to Dylan, and it irked me. BUT that was the whole growth of the story, so I got it. She wises up to her 'tude eventually. And they were damn hot together.
I'd give it 3.5 stars. I think there was a little too much story packed in. The friends-to-lovers thing works best for me when I get a good long take on their relationship. But I enjoyed it, and Dylan was pretty awesome. I'll take two, please.
My personal favorite of Ms Fraser's books. The unique characters and well-devised and well-written plot, created a novel I've read more than once already =)

Dylan Crane is an unrepentant geek. He’s also in love with his savvy but sweet neighbor, Erin. Unfortunately, Erin only sees him as a friend. That changes when Erin needs a date for a work event. After seeing him all cleaned up and more in her world, Erin notices how handsome and sexy Dylan really is. They explore a relationship, but when Erin’s work ambitions trample on Dylan’s ethics, both have to decide if what they have is what they want.
The Geek Next Door has some of my favorite elements of contemporary romance-heat, humor and an actual bump in the plotline to give real conflict. It’s such a short story that to make it work, Erin and Dylan needed the initial familiarity and Ms. Fraser started them off beautifully. The characters worked beautifully together. Dylan personified ‘geek’ but he did so in a way that still kept him strong and sexy-all wrapped up in silly shirts, video games and a bad haircut. The Geek Next Door is a fun short almost any romance reader would enjoy.
It had a hell of a lot more sex than I had anticipated, but hey, I'm not complaining.
As for Dylan...I loved him. I really did. He was a quiet Alpha, taking control when need be and stepping up when most men would have left. He may be a geek, but he was a great one.
Erin...I didn't like so much. She was overly driven. I like a woman who is driven, but a woman who would compromise who she is and even the relationship she has with a friend/lover, not so much. Even when their trial came, her first thought was how dare he embarrass her like that, why he couldn't see things her way, and made plans. Even had the nerve to suggest he was lucky to even have her attention.
Bitch, it's the other way around.
*breathe in and out* Sorry. Got a little excited there.
Anywho, I enjoyed the book.
Favorite quotes: "Geeks weren't supposed to have asses like that. She just wanted to bite it, looked so scrumptious." - Erin
"Ah, computers, that's like dirty talk to us computer guys." - Dylan
"Geek be damned he was still a red-blooded man." - Dylan
"I feel like I just walked onto the set of The Big Bang Theory." - Erin
What can I say? Hot geek and sexy lawyer woman? *licks lips* technological sparks are bound to fly when those two come in contact. I love that it wasn't all about sex (but who am I kidding - sex goes a long way haha).
I love that it was all friendship first and the denial was just fun to read. Knowing that they want to step over the boundary line but hesitant. Futilely I might add in resistance?
Yeah this books tells it all and how far one would go to get what they want and what they are willing to give up to get the man they love. Or more so true happiness.
And the fact that the girl was the one to fuck up makes me love this book all that more. XD. Men arent always the assholes in the picture haha

I wasn't buying that the geek was really a geek, since he was essentially a hot guy (who was also well built) wearing nerdy clothes.
But, I do love stories where the average guy gets the hot girl, since all too often in books, we see the girl with zero appeal landing Mr. Perfect.
I will try to burn the image of the guy in tighty whities out of my brain because this is not sexy at all, even though the guy himself was adorable. Sorry for the girl/guy generic references, I don't remember names. The sci-fi dress up scene was kind of cute near the end.
I received The Geek Next Door by Lauren Fraser through a contest. It was a fun read with almost all the elements I look for in a romance book… a hot cover, sexy (if not alpha) hero, and the happily ever after. The author developed strong characters and a compelling storyline. While I didn’t love it, that mostly had to do with not connecting to the heroine whom I very much disliked. And I have to admit that the author wrote this very unlikeable character very well.
I thought that this story was cute up until the part when Erin completely f-ed up. I won't give the details away but I just can't believe anyone with half a brain would do what she did to a friend. She redeemed herself in the end though.
Dylan was PERFECT! I didn't think he was all that nerdy but I have a weak spot for nerds anyway. :) I will definitely read more books by this author.
I really didn't care for the first part of the book and can't say exactly why. I guess I was just a little lost from it, but I did like the last part/ending. Dylan didn't really seem like a geek in the book at all.
This was super fun to read. I love geek romances and Dylan was exactly the kind of sci-fi computer geek that I would go for! Erin was a little bitchier than I would have liked, all she cared about was career/money but I think she groveled enough in the end :)
