**NO SPOILERS**
Let me start by saying that I don’t normally read fantasy books, and romance is CERTAINLY NOT my preferred genre. I also have a really hard time committing to series, so this book had a lot going against it. With that being said, I had no regrets taking a chance on this book after it was recommended to me — it is very well done! The romance does not overshadow or muddy the storyline, and the *spicy* scenes are tastefully done. The characters are all enjoyable, even the ones I’m not sure we are supposed to root for at first. My favorite part of this book (aside from the funny one-liners and exciting action scenes) has to be the found family aspect. The horseman and the other characters that revolve around them in this fantasy world felt like MY family by the end of the book (author please let them have a happy ending…) This book surprised me at every turn — never would I have expected to enjoy it as much as I did. I never thought I’d say this, but I am excited to read the rest of this series!

This was such a great story!!!!
It wasn’t what I expected, though I also had no knowledge of the four horseman prior to this! So I came expecting to be thrown into a book full of lore and knowledge and instead I was given the perfect amount of information that did not make me want to die.
Diving In I fell in love with the main characters and I always am gonna love me a MC that is devoted to their significant other. (A.k.a I love me a simp.) The main story leaves so much to be desired. I’m a sucker for a self sacrificing character and boy does this fill my need. The characters relationships that are forged in the story leave so much room for twist and turns and I can’t wait to see the character grow with the trauma that they may face. Even with the characters having to deal with many trials, I still get the perfect amount of romance to fill my void of wanting a boyfriend as-well ;)

Hoping for book 2 to be coming out soon!!!!!! Fingers crossed I only got to wait a year or two.

I loved this book!! I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this book because I haven’t read anything like it before. First and foremost, the world that has been built here surrounding the Four Horsemen/Deadly Sins mythos is so unique and interesting. The perfect balance between a well thought out world without being too much to follow along. The cast of characters are all phenomenal and I loved their personalities. And the ACTION! That was definitely my favorite part. Right away, the plot grips you and doesn’t let go. It’s fast-paced with twists and turns, while also having these wonderful, slowed down moments between the FMC and MMC that are just so heartfelt. I would say any fantasy/romantasy reader should absolutely be checking this out! I am so excited to get into book 2!

I was pleasantly surprised and shocked with this read. It definitely made me want to research The Four Horseman. I absolutely loved how unique it was. Angels, Demons, Humans, 7 Deadly Sins, and an extremely loveable dog Mac existing together under a very shaky pact. So much action!!! Page-turner for sure!! I couldn't put it down and have already downloaded Book 2!! 4.5 Stars!!

Freshly dipping my toes into the fantasy genre, I stumbled upon this gem (Guardians in the title and a dog on the cover…yes, please!). The prologue alone had me hooked. This isn't your average fantasy fare. It's a character-driven story exploring the messy, complicated relationships – family, romance, friendship – against a backdrop of thrilling action and a richly imagined world. And don't worry if you're clueless about the Four Horsemen like I was; I jumped right in with no problem.

J.F. Monroe perfectly balances the big, epic plot with the characters' deeply personal struggles. I was instantly invested in several of them (River, anyone?!), and the whole "found family" theme really resonated. The immersive world-building is just the cherry on top. The concept was original, immersive, and impossible to put down.

Shade Mercer has spent the last ten years trying to survive after losing her childhood best friend and first love, Theodore “Theo” Kennedy, when he was chosen to become the human vessel for Death. In this world, once someone passes through the Cubicle to join with a Horseman, they are never seen again, or so everyone believes.

When fate brings Theo back into Shade’s life a decade later, everything she thought she knew is turned upside down. Now burdened with unimaginable power and a mission to protect humanity, Theo must reunite the remaining Horsemen before a growing threat destroys the fragile balance between humans, angels, and demons. One of my favorite parts of this story was the emotional connection between Shade and Theo. Their childhood friends-to-first-love relationship added so much heart to the action-packed plot, and watching them find each other again after years apart made every reunion feel meaningful. Shade’s growth from someone defined by fear and loss into someone willing to fight for those she loves was incredibly satisfying to watch.

I loved the fresh mythology surrounding the Four Horsemen. There was plenty of action, suspense, found family, supernatural intrigue, and just enough romance to keep me rooting for Shade and Theo every step of the way. And I have to give a special mention to Mac, Shade’s loyal German Shepherd, who completely stole my heart.

The only thing I found myself wanting more of was richer physical descriptions of the characters and more vivid details of the settings. I sometimes struggled to fully picture everyone and the environments they were traveling through, and I think those extra descriptive touches would have made the story even more immersive.

This book had me in a chokehold from beginning to end. Every chapter left me wanting more, and the ending has me counting down the days until the next installment. If you enjoy romantasy, second-chance romance, childhood friends to lovers, chosen one stories, found family, angels and demons, magical quests, and high-stakes adventures, this is absolutely one to add to your TBR.

From the very first page, I was drawn into a world where angels, demons, and humans coexist under a shaky truce already a compelling setup. But what truly hooked me was the heart of the story: Shade Mercer and Theo Kennedy.

Shade is such a relatable character. She’s guarded, bruised by life, and holding onto the familiar comfort of solitude and her dog, Mac (who totally stole my heart, by the way). Watching her evolution from an emotionally closed-off archivist to someone who slowly begins to trust again was deeply satisfying. Her relationship with Theo especially given their childhood bond felt authentic and raw. There's a tenderness in their reunion that Monroe handles with care, never rushing the emotional beats.

Theo, now the vessel for Death, is both powerful and heartbreakingly human. His internal struggle trying to reconcile who he used to be with what he's become adds a poignant layer to the story. The burden of his role doesn’t define him, but it does shape the emotional terrain of their journey.

The plot is fast-paced and loaded with stakes, but it never loses sight of its emotional core. I loved how the magical elements were balanced with very human themes grief, forgiveness, and the painful beauty of reconnecting. The assembling of the other Horsemen sets the stage for bigger battles ahead, but the real magic lies in the quiet moments Shade overcoming fear, Theo clinging to pieces of his past, and their shared history bubbling to the surface in unexpected ways.

If you love character driven fantasy with just the right mix of danger, romance, and emotional depth, this book is for you. Her bond with her loyal dog Mac adds warmth to the story and makes her character even more relatable.

Things begin to change when her childhood best friend, Theo Kennedy, suddenly returns after many years. Learning that Theo has become the vessel for Death is a powerful twist in the story. This book really surprised me! I have never read anything like this or about the four horsemen so I had no idea what to expect going in. But let me tell you, I loved it! There is an amazing plot, great character stories, trials, battles, tons of action, spice, just everything!
The four horsemen are chosen by humans having to go through certain trials. Then once they are chosen, they have to be protectors of the human race. This book has angels, demons and humans all living together with a war brewing.
If you are someone who loves fantasy with a story line that hooks you by the time you get to chapter three, you’re going to want to read this! I cannot wait to read the other two in the series!

This book was randomly recommended to me on kindle unlimited and I thought the cover looked cool so I decided to give it a shot. Had no clue it was part of a series so I wish I waited for the other parts to come out first, but I was pleasantly surprised! The world building was hard to follow sometimes, that's just the way it goes with fantasy I guess, but the characters were pretty entertaining. I think I actually enjoyed the more minor characters more than the main ones tbh. It could have been a little more spicy for my tastes, but that's coming from me XD I'm interested to see where this story goes!

Such a fun and engaging read. What really stood out to me was the world building. It's funny because the author has mentioned not being a fan of world building, yet she does an incredible job creating a world filled with angels, demons, humans, and the Four Horsemen that feels both immersive and easy to follow.

The book also has biblical undertones as Guardians of God's covenant: chosen defenders who stand between humanity and destruction, preserving hope, order, and faith in a fallen world.

Overall, this is a fast paced fantasy with world building, great characters,and spice. I'm looking forward to seeing where the series goes next. Highly recommend!

Wow!!! Ok, I am a fan of the fantasy genre and not a huge fan of the romance genre but I fell in love with these characters. I really want to see how their relationship will grow through the rest of the series (no spoilers ;) ). I also really enjoyed the take on the horseman mythology. If the next books in the trilogy are as good as this one..... let's just say I can't wait.

J.F. Monroe did a really good book for her first outing and can't wait to see her take the modern fantasy world by storm.

I am a mood reader and it did take me a hot minute to get into this book. Once I did though, whewwwww weeeeeeee what a ride!

Shade is a special gal and I wish I could have related to her sooner but she started off a bit naive but by the end I was absolutely calling her my bestie.

If you love the idea of 4 horsemen. Then throw in the deadly sins and an adventure of a life time, then you absolutely have to read this.

The Legendary Guardians: Reunions is a fantasy by author J.F. Monroe. I enjoyed the storyline and would have given it more stars if it weren't for the multitude of gratuitous explicit scenes. If you don't mind spice or are willing to skip the scenes, you'll find the story has a lot of depth.

We learn early on that the human race is being held together by a treaty that keeps demons, angels, and the seven deadly sins in check. The enforcers of the treaty are the four horsemen. However, the horsemen have to choose human hosts during an event called the crucible.

Both Shade and Theo, teenagers in love, are chosen to participate in the crucible - and Theo is chosen as a horseman, tearing the young lovers brutally apart. Several years go by, but Shade can't move on with her life. Then, strange things begin to happen - things that suggest the treaty is no longer in effect.

What will this mean for Shade? For Theo? For the world? This book is fast-paced and leaves you wanting the next installment.
