I suck at being a vampire—literally. When the Halloween Wave turned a third of the population into monsters, I thought I was one of the lucky ones. I get to have my fit twenty-year-old body for decades. And vampires are supposed to be sexy, right?
But now that I’m finally in university, I still don’t fit in. I was supposed to find myself and spread my metaphorical vampire wings. Yet, I’m not good enough to be an academic, and too inept at flying to hang with monsters like me. At least flirting with my new nerdy lab partner can be some fun in the meantime.
Owen
I can't stand my lab partner. It's not because he's a monster—far from it, I find vampires attractive. But jocks don't go for academics like me, especially airheads like Clay. We only need to get through this class.
Then one day we're nursing an injured bat together, and Clay's sweet, compassionate side rears its teeth. Despite my best efforts, this gorgeous bloodsucker has me enchanted. When he wants to learn to fly, how can I refuse? This jock keeps failing at taking to the sky, but I fear I'm the one that's falling. A nerdy human like me dating a himbo vampire could spell a monster-sized disaster.
Pretty Fly for a Vampire Guy is a spicy paranormal romantic comedy set in the Creepin U shifter universe. Don’t read if you’re not interested in nerd-jock connections, flying lessons through the forest, monsters at university, and yes, a happily ever after.

3.5 stars This was a silly and cozy romcom with a himbo and his nerd. Clay was sweet and hid his insecurities behind his gregarious nature. Owen was awkward and kind. Some of the writing needed polishing and I would have liked more depth to more of the conversations between the MCs.

I didn't read any of the other books from this universe but I don't think it's necessary. sadly I didn't particularly like anything in this book aside from the bat 🦇 even if is my favs are fruit bats, way cuter 😍 and they didn't explain what being a familiar entail in this case. so for me is a meh book🤷♀️
Omg how freaking cute and funny was this book. I absolutely adored Owen. Clay was just so freaking dreamy. Bat Nathanson is totally my favorite though, such a sweetie.
This is definitely a must read. It had a great pace. It was refreshing and fun. It had so many cute moments. I truly loved watching Owen’s confidence grow. And Clay realizing that he deserves love too. I really enjoyed this. It was my first book from both authors and I can’t wait to read more from both of them.
“𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪, 𝙗𝙖𝙗𝙮, 𝙄’𝙙 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙨.” Clay and Owen’s journey takes place in Pʀᴇᴛᴛʏ Fʟʏ ꜰᴏʀ ᴀ Vᴀᴍᴘɪʀᴇ Gᴜʏ by CD Rachels and Leslie McAdam, part of the 𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘯 𝘜 series. Clay and Owen have some misunderstandings in the beginning until their familiar, Bat Nathanson, falls into their care and they become “bat dads” together, ultimately bringing their relationship from lab partners to more. Clay and Owen are adorable. Clay is the ultimate golden retriever jock, and Owen is the quintessential nerd who wants his crush to like him. Clay struggles to contain his vampire urges around Owen until Owen makes it known that vampires are his weakness and shows Clay compassion when he confides in him that he’s not a great vampire. I love that Clay and Owen complement each other and lift each other. Vibes… 🏳️🌈 MM 🧛🏻 Paranormal 🎓 College 🔬 Lab Partners 🦇 Age Gap 🩵 Jock • Nerd ‼️ 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙒 • 𝙏𝙒 ‼️ 🍁🍁🍁🍁.5

This was my first monster romance from the #CreepinU world and I need to read the other books available, stat! This was the cutest opposites attract, monster romcom with a little tension and angst, a nice sprinkling of spicy times, and a Hallmark-worthy HEA.
💙Monster RomCom 🦇Hot Jock Vampire MMC 🔬Nerdy Future Doctor MMC 💙Flying Lessons 🦇Vampire Bat Familiar 🔬Forced Proximity (Lab Partners & Bat Dads)
When the Halloween Wave turned a third of the population into monsters, Clay thought he was lucky when he ended up a vampire. Fit, twenty-year-old body for decades? Score! While he excels at water polo, Clay has struggled to spread his metaphorical vampire wings…academics are a challenge and flying? Forget about it. At least there’s a bright spot in his day – flirting with his new nerdy lab partner.
Owen transferred to the monster university with hopes of becoming a monster doctor, and he’s ready to explore all kinds of monster anatomy, especially vampires 🤭 It’s just his luck that his new lab partner is the himbo water polo star, Clay. Owen’s attraction to Clay is infuriating, because jocks don’t go for the academic types like him…
But one day, Clay and Owen end up nursing an injured bat together and Owen gets to see a compassionate side of Clay that he didn’t know existed – Owen can’t deny that he’s under this bloodsucker’s spell. So when Clay asks for Owen’s help with taking to the sky, how can he refuse him? Each time Clay falls, Owen seems to be falling harder. Will these two be able to soar to new heights, or will both of their hearts get crushed on impact?
Clay and Owen were the CUTEST! Underneath Clay’s jock exterior was a vulnerable man trying to find his place in the world, and Owen provided a safe space for Clay to open up. Owen had preconceived notions about the hot water polo player, and when those were put to the test? Owen had to reevaluate his hypothesis about the direction of his relationship with Clay and the data spoke for itself on their compatibility. I was giggling, kicking my feet up, and smiling pretty much the entire time I was reading! If you’re looking for a cute monster romcom, this is it!
This was a really enjoyable, fast read. The story is a charming queer rom-com with a paranormal twist. It’s funny, sweet, and quietly emotional in the best way. While it may not reinvent the genre, it stands out for its warmth, snappy dialogue, and the sincerity that runs through every character interaction. Clay’s journey toward self-acceptance is handled with care and humor, while Owen’s gradual softening adds emotional weight to their dynamic. Together, they bring a lovely balance of chaos and vulnerability that makes their relationship feel earned. It’s heartfelt and lighthearted without ever feeling shallow. A cozy, low-angst, monster-flavored romance that’s easy to fall into — and just as easy to recommend.
Writing/Plot: This story is witty, fresh, and full of charm. The writing strikes a nice balance between humor and heart, offering light, playful moments alongside more thoughtful reflections. The plot blends paranormal elements with a romantic coming-of-age arc that’s engaging without becoming too heavy. At its core, the story feels grounded, which gives weight to the emotional beats. Characters: Clay is a chaotic and charming vampire who’s still figuring out where he fits in. His mix of confidence and vulnerability makes him fun to follow. Owen is a shy, sweet academic type— sharp, sarcastic and emotionally guarded. Their personalities couldn’t be more different, but that contrast is exactly what makes their dynamic work. Relationships: The chemistry between Clay and Owen is strong, but it’s the emotional progression that really carries their dynamic. Their development from reluctant lab partner to something much deeper is paced nicely, and while the romance is a slow/medium burn, the payoff feels satisfying. There’s a sweetness and sincerity to their connection that makes it enjoyable to follow. Worldbuilding: The Halloween Wave premise adds a fun paranormal twist to a contemporary college setting. Vampires, monsters, and humans coexisting creates an interesting dynamic that’s touched on with just enough detail to build a believable world without getting bogged down in heavy exposition.
OMG, I loved this book so dang much! From the title and the cover and everything, I was just expecting a fun, silly ride, and that's what this was, but I just adored everything about this adorable story and these two dorks to no end!
Owen Bhat is a human going to a monster university who wants to be a monster doctor. He also really wants to sleep with a monster. But he hates jocks because his last three boyfriends were all jocks who treated him terribly. Clay Cannon is a vampire who was turned twenty years ago when he was twenty going to university for the first time since he was turned after messing around for the last two decades. He has a thing for nerds.
These two get assigned as lab partners, so now they have to work together and learn about one another's anatomy for class. Clay maybe takes this a little too seriously the first time they meet, thinking they're going to hook up. Owen might want nothing else, but he also wants the feeling attached to any kind of sexual relationship he has. Clay is used to sleeping around, and he doesn't quite know how to react to Owen's apparent rejection.
Eventually, these two start working together again and then rehabilitate a bat that becomes their shared familiar. They become a little family as Owen helps Clay learn how to fly, and it's the cutest thing ever. I loved watching these two become closer and how they became friends first. They were so cute and funny. I liked how they saw and understood each other and became interested in one another's interests and settled one another. I liked how good Clay was with Owen's anxiety and how Owen's father saw that.
This was just too cute, and I'm so excited to read the other books from this universe!
An adorable book where the two main characters are each other’s peanut butter to the others jelly. They just fit and I loved it! Clay had me snickering and laughing through the entire book and the moment they became bat dad's...total mush!!
I love nerdy heros and I love the jocks so Clay and Owen are a great combination of characters to fall for each other. They are both sweetly clueless in their own way; Clay is a bit scattered and forgetful, but super social and nice to everyone. Owen is super smart, loves learning, making PowerPoint presentations, or MonsterPoint presentations, and he can sometimes come off awkward, but in the cutest way. On paper these two wouldn't seem to match, but all of their opposites are what make them a perfect fit. Luckily whatever would drive someone else crazy, is catnip to these two. It's completely adorable and I was there for it!!
Owen went to Creepin U, to learn, but also to meet some really awesome monsters. Unfortunately, his social game is not his strongest strength. Clay on the other hand is friends with just about everyone and is full of self-confidence, except when it comes to flying. Poor Clay, thankfully Owen is super smart and is right by Clay's side to help out his new lab partner when finding his metaphorical wings. Clay also steps up when Owen needs a hand in recusing an injured bat and soon these two are co-parenting a bat, which is insanely adorable.
There are lots of couple catch-ups within this book, but also know this story is a standalone as well. Basically, this book is just down right adorable, with low angst, and I loved returning to the Creepin U universe.
From the world of Creepin U, we have a new story! This was such a fun world and I was glad to see these authors return to it. This story follows Owen and Clay, a nerd and jock who are very much meant to be! If they let themselves at least. Owen came to Creepin U to study medicine and hopes to be a monster doctor despite his parents constant worry for him. Owen works hard to maintain his grades and is just your typical nerdy boy. Who has a massive crush on vampires but with one particular in mind: Clay. However, Owen has found it more often than not, that liking a jock tends to end badly for him. But staying away from Clay becomes harder than he expected when they have to work together in a class they share. Add in taking care of an injured bat! He wants to stay away, but the more time he spends with Clay the more he sees a side of him he never expected. Resisting Clay may not be possible. Clay hasn’t had it easy since he became a vampire, but he is doing his best. When he meets Owen he is definitely smitten. But Owen seems to not want anything to do with him. Yet, Clay can’t help but hope things will change once they get to truly know one another. Perhaps he found the person he was meant to be with after! Very sweet story with these two! I hope we continue to get more stories in this world! It’s just a fun escape filled with wonderful characters.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh, now this book was a delightful surprise, and I enjoyed every moment of it.
The way the story flowed so effortlessly, I couldn’t begin to guess who wrote what. Their style of writing, ready wit, and character development all wove together so well that I’d happily support their co-authorship again! Luckily for us, they both have a great backlist of books for us to enjoy in the meantime.
This story was just a lot of fun to read. I was grinning throughout most of it. It was set in a world that was shared with us before, but that doesn’t keep it from being a story all on its own. I haven’t read the original series, but they are definitely on my radar.
Owen and Clay were on a collision course towards each other, and it was enjoyable to experience the awkward moments, sweet moments, and the adorable bat they took care of. I felt so bad for Owen the night he found it. Clay was great through it all. I loved watching them learn there was more to the other than what they originally thought.
If you are looking for something to make you laugh, keep your grinning, and to leave you feeling like it was a book worth reading, then look no further, because I definitely recommend this one.
Well when I ordered Pretty For a Vampire Guy, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was getting, as I’d only read one book in Creelin University (AKA: Creepin U) Shifter Fantasy Series. But The title and the blurb reeled me in, so I took a chance. Let me just say I was not disappointed. I laughed to the point of tears at times and at others my heart wanted to break in two at all these poor guys have to go through just to be accepted. But all in all I found the authors to have given us readers a well written storyline that is fun, sexy and a little bit crazy (ok maybe a lot crazy). But if you’re a fantasy, shifter, romcom reader, I highly recommend it.
Clay (who really can’t fly) is a vampire jock who is into nerdy humans. Owen is a nerdy human who craves a vampire lover. So when they get paired up as lab partners you would think they hit the jackpot! But nothing in either of their lives could be that easy. As their story unfolds you will laugh, wanna cry and possibly bop a couple head together. But to me it’s a sexy RomCom that is well worth picking up.
This is an opposites attract paranormal romance, featuring Clay and Owen, and is a standalone book but link to another series called Creepin U.
Clay is a clumsy vampire who feels like he doesn’t fit in, but things start to change when he meets his grumpy, nerdy lab partner, Owen.
This cozy, low-angst paranormal romance was such a sweet read. Clay and Owen may come from totally different worlds, but the slow build of their connection - full of awkward banter, quiet vulnerability, and unexpectedly tender moments - makes their relationship feel real and heartfelt. The quirky cast of monster roommates and university misfits adds an extra layer of fun to the story. It left me smiling.
Things to expect in this book are: Standalone book Linked to series Low angst MM college romance Opposites attract Nerd x Jock Grumpy x Sunshine Human x Himbo vampire Lab partners Both have secret crush Mis communication Bat dads Spicy times Found family HEA
I was a HUGE fan of the Creepin U series, so a chance to revisit it? I am so there!!!! This time around, we have vampire Clay, who is part of the water polo team with Brand and Steve from The Nøkk and the Jock, and Owen, who is an over-achiever with a heart of gold and a thirst for knowledge when it comes to monsters - and Clay. Add in co-parenting a vampire bat with the most adorable name possible and more cameos from the Creepin U series, and this was just what I needed!!!
I loved the banter and sweetness between Owen and Clay. They are absolutely adorable and perfect for each other. They built each other up and supported each other perfectly. I was in love with them and could have read hundreds of pages more of their adventures.
OK, I have to admit that I didn’t love The Nøkk and the Jock, book one in the Creepin U series, but I think it might have been that I just wasn’t in the right mood for it because I loved reading Pretty Fly for a Vampire Guy. All of the punny food names were still a little over the top for me but they didn’t take me out of the story at all.
I always enjoy a good jock/nerd story and I think Clay and Owen were perfect for each other. My absolute favorite thing about this book though was BN, the injured vampire bat that Clay and Owen nursed back to health after an injury to its wing. That little critter really helped bring Clay and Owen together.
This story really made me smile and LOL in places and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
It's great to be back at Creelin U, a university with a mix of monsters and humans. I really enjoyed the humour, romance, and spice in this entertaining book. It's well written with excellent world building and some fascinating characters. Clay is a 40-year-old vampire who looks like he's in his twenties and who is a jock on the water polo team. Unlike other vampires, he doesn't know how to fly and this is a source of anxiety for him. Owen is a human attending the university. He wants to be a monster doctor and he has a thing for vampires, so it's a good thing Clay is his lab partner in their anatomy class. I love the cast of secondary characters who were in the previous books, but Bat Nathanson (the injured bat who becomes their familiar) really steals the show! I really hope we get more books in this series; perhaps there was a hint that we may get a story about Yuki? I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Pfff I got enough of fangstagram, fangschat and cinnamonsterolls I know it sound cute, but it isn’t. I don’t understand the need for Everything to have a monster related name, even their sneakers. Whatever. Let’s begin with Owen, cuz he’s a piece of work. Now I love nerdy boys, Owen loves museums and learning. Ok. He wants to become monster doctor, although he stated that being in Creeling U was to hook up with monster dudes. Btw he is the only one who calls it Creeping U. Just saying. And then let’s talk about Owen and Clay relationship, boooy was it a doozie. It was back and forth, but does he want me, are we boyfriends- dude you could have communicated simple as that. Owen’s parents ridiculous, just page fillers and unrequited drama - it’s not even that dramatic. Don’t let me start in the power point presentations ( multiple mind you) that too had their monster name. So to summarise I shouldn’t and I regret doing it.
Owen and Clay were such a joy to read. I felt for them as their insecurities got the best of them. They didn’t realize how amazing they both were.
For Clay to think he wasn’t good enough simply because he couldn’t fly, hurt. He really wanted to fit in. Oh Clay, baby, you were meant to stand out!
I love how Owen just took the time to help Clay out, even when he swore he wouldn’t get close to him. But he just couldn’t let Clay think he was a loser.
The way Clay showed Owen that he could be whatever he wanted and follow his dream was supportive boyfriend goals BEFORE becoming boyfriends! They just were meant to be.
I got second hand embarrassment during that study session scene. I couldn’t stop laughing.
This is definitely reread material. Especially when you need your mood to improve.
Cute premise, funny name changes, like lots of things being "monster-themed", and two nice MCs, both of whom were a little awkward and shy, but who fit well together. Not a lot of drama, basically just a nice romance between a self-proclaimed human nerd and a vampire who can't fly who meet while attending university.
I couldn't quite figure out why vamps can fly in this world, or why exactly Clay couldn't automatically fly, when that seemed to be an innate thing. I did like the inclusion of a theme of monster-phobia and prejudice, where parallels are easily drawn to today's social climate. I also thought that Owen's parents got over their phobia and prejudice pretty fast, so fast in fact that it didn't seem realistic, not even for a fantasy romance where realism isn't usually prevalent.
Owen wants to become a monster doctor which is why he is going to Creelin University. There is a mix of monsters and humans as well as classes that are devoted to each. Clay is a vampire who is Owen's crush and who becomes his lab partner. They are to spend the semester learning more about each other so they have to spend time together. Owen tries to deny his attraction but he doesn't hide it well. Each hurts the other so will they ever get together?
I liked this story. It was unique. It was fun. I liked the characters. When Clay and Owen become dads to a bat who is their familiar, it is adorable. Loved the name they gave him. It took me a while to get into some of the terminology they used. I also could not remember who were monsters and which monster they were. I'd like to revisit this world with other stories of the human and monster pairs.
One for my vampire list. I got this one has a rec from an Insta book bestie. It's a cute read. Nothing new or earth-shattering, but still worth your time. I might have liked more conversations between characters, and Owen's parents were a bit too stereotypical for my taste, but it does serve the plot.
Pick it up if you like: - Supernatural - Romance (mm open door) - University setting - Cute characters and a pet
This was one of the cutest books I’ve read so far this year. The college, gay vampire-human romance had me kicking my feet the entire time while reading. Lab partners turned co parents of a pet turned lovers. This was a warm wholesome story of 2 awkward college students from opposite sides of academia trying to make their way in this monster human world, finding love along the way. The explicit scenes were well done and were not the basis of the book. They simply added to the story.
This was adorable, sometimes silly, and always fun. There are some serious aspects as well - both Clay and Owen are able to help the other deal with difficult subjects, such as rejection, self-esteem, struggles with important things in life, and communicating one's desires to parents who aren't willing to listen. My absolute favorite parts were with BN, their bat baby! SO adorable.
Back at Creepin' U! If you're looking for lighthearted, low angst reads that are just a joy, give them all a try. It's great to see the familiar faces from the other books but Vampire Guy can easily be read as a standalone. Some common themes in Owen and Clay's story include feelings of inadequacy, nerd/jock pairing, critical and phobic parents, but these are handled well.
I liked this book. 3.5 stars for rating, 2.5 for spice. Overall it was good and I enjoyed the relationship progress and Bat Nathanson. Owen was a bit conflicting, when his initial presentation showcased a vampire jock but then he was adamant he didn’t want to be a with a jock. And Clay was described as a himbo a couple times but I didn’t really get that from him.
Another I’m putting in the “come back to”/DNF (for now) pile. I just think I need to be in a different place where I can dedicate brain space to really hunkering down and focusing on just this while I’m engaged. My life isn’t there now, and all it was doing was annoying the ever-loving shit out of me when things were off. I know that’s just me, so I won’t take it out on the book.
This was a sweet spicy romcom between a jock vampire and a nerdy human. I liked the dynamic and the chemistry. I wanted more depth into the main characters personalities, maybe more examples or flashbacks rather than telling. The monster puns were a but much. I love puns, but these were verging on distracting to the flow of the story. I’d absolutely read more in this series.
DNF 10% that second chapter where nerd-mc made presentation "Why I would date a vampire" without any reason was painfully awkward. for his friends, for mc, for me. why did he feel the need to make this presentation when nobody asked. don't want to continue, I can see already that it won't be fun book for me.
This book was utterly amazing! Cute and funny, feel filled and swoony, and sweet and spicy, Clay and Owen's romance was an absolute delight. I found these characters to be easy to love and even easier to root for. I fell head over heels for this couple, their story, and the totally adorable, BN.
This was such a fun read!!! I enjoyed their dynamic throughout story and all the side characters!!! Ohh and the little furry bat , pets just make everything better. Nothing like co parenting to bring two people together 😍
