Conceptually it is interesting to experience these various authors come together to tell a tale. The Fate Tapestry weaver and her companions seem to have both malicious and commendable reasons for meddling. The bigger bad guys waiting in the wings and terrorist activities are effectively building tension. Once again, however, I was disappointed in the romance of our featured couple. It's too much of a nothing burger. We are supposed to care about being cursed and living for years in exile but we don't see any. Likewise an old childhood friend became a betrayer and is dying from his choices. How are readers to care about his redemption arc when we were just told about it in a few sentences? Our librarian talks about how she knows the real him and his emotions but he's a stranger that stole her from a library an hour ago and hasn't talked to her since. The prose relies on audiences buying into tropes established elsewhere rather than having its own voice. (1.5 stars)

Evelyn the liberian isn't taking any orders from Dragon Ty
She's new in town and has a magical connection to the ancient scrolls. When they touch her inner magic ignites and Ty is forced to protect Evelyn from the rogues the magic summoned. Ty knows that she's his mate but fights the attraction because he was cursed. Good story with lots of heated snark and sparks.
