UPDATE

The storytelling is rich, raw and unyielding. Elyse is not afraid to drift from the social norms of romantasy and deliver a vibrant plot. She makes you feel, from frustration, anguish and hatred to hope, defiance and determination.

Her characters are complicated, intelligent and emotional. Each fighting for their version of a better world based on current ideologies.

I’m purposely not giving away too much, it’s something I implore you to consider for your next read so you can experience it for yourself.

Beta read this. Can’t begin to describe how good it is! Can’t wait to read the final edit!

There is something about these books that gets me out of a reading slump. I read this as an ARC while suffering for months through another book, and really ready the entire book in two sittings.

The world is rich, and I appreciated the further immersion into the Highlands, Traders Bay and the fact we were plunged headfirst into the intricacies of Midas’ religion. EC Glynn is a fantastic writer that brought complexity to her characters and her world and keeps the pages turning through the intrigue to know more.

I loved the love story. I think Mila and Culis are fascinating characters and I bought so heavily into their love, and I know that in my heart of hearts there is so much more to tell of them. I have so many conflicting thoughts about the villains and I love that they are not one dimensional. It makes for such a gripping read, caring intricately about so many characters, and the character development is delightful.

This book is a must read, and a beautiful sequel to the amazing first book. I cannot wait for the final book in the series.

Thank you, E.C. Glynn and team for the ARC! I loved book 1, and I was so excited when I received this copy.

One of my favorite parts of the first book was Glenn's approach toward religion. Establishments and their prescribed beliefs vs. fundamentalists who choose to take the word as literal, also accounting for the impossibility of immediate drastic change against fanatics of all types. Yet somehow afforded them a small enough amount of grace that didn't make it seem like they were brainwashed idiots.

My hope was that those themes would develop in the sequel, and Glynn didn't disappoint. We were granted further background on our antagonists and more world building that answered some fundamental questions.

She also showed good insight into deprogramming. How some slip into acceptance easily enough while others still cling to anger and resentment over time lost in their lives. How both they and the persecuted can fall into their own resentful and violent patterns.

I consider the love story more of a side plot, and while I did enjoy watching the romance blossom and progress, it felt a little less organic than the natural progression of the larger plot. However, I still consider it well-done enough that it didn't detract from everything else. It did have excellent character growth involved. In fact, it was interesting to see a lot of character nuances come to light.

All-in-all, I feel like it was a continuation of the responsible handling of a sensitive topic like religious fanaticism. Power grabs vs. genuine desire for change. How the approaches matter. And, what I feel is a crucial point: how economic status plays into what type of heresy one can commit.

4/5, think of me when a copy of book 3 is ready. Or the ARC. Or if you have a notebook with bullet points.

I received this as an ARC and…. Rotting muds, it was an incredible read!

I vividly recall how often the first book left me speechless with Mila’s treatment at the hands of Jezebel, overwhelmed with the challenges she faced and obsessed with the romance between her and Culis. This sequel builds upon, deepens and exceeds the first in so many ways.

I enjoyed the unravelling mystery of Midas and the Church, and how the novel explored the horrors of religious extremism and its impact on regular people. I fell in love all over again with the characters — Culis, Jahan and of course Mila. I was hugely invested in their mission, and devoured this book to find out how it all unfolded.

The ending in particular left me gasping - so buckle up for a wild last few chapters! Glynn has cemented herself as one of my all-time favourite authors, and I await the next book extremely impatiently!!

An extra nod as well to the cover - as with the first book, the cover art for this sequel is absolutely stunning!

Wellllllllllllll that ending was entirely unexpected but I expect absolutely nothing less from both these characters and Elyse.

The introduction to this book and then the fact we had to wait was absolutely diabolical but thank god I adore Mila enough to forgive that trespass (see what I did there?!)

I love a book where I cannot guess what is going to happen next and this had me on the edge of my seat. The magic system is so incredibly unique and I love exploring it.

I did have the tiniest amount of empathy for Midas during this and that was swiftly met with instant karma so thank god for that.

I cannot wait for book 3 to see where this is going next. I need more Mila and Culis is my life already.

Thank you Elyse for the arc copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.

⚠️ Content Warnings: torture, death, loss, manipulation (and yes, plenty of good things too 👀)

This is the second book in the Heretic Behaviour series, where we continue to follow Mila on her journey to bring down Midas and the Church.

I have to say, although this one took me a bit longer to get through, I WAS UPPPPP reading this and absolutely gobbling it all down. 🍴📖 So. Many. Plot. Twists. I didn’t see coming!! 🤯

We finally get the full picture of why the Church is the way it is — and wow, the payoff was worth every page. Mila (and Culis) go through some truly horrific situations, and I’m honestly shocked by how strong she is and what she manages to achieve. 💪🔥

And that ending... 😱 What. A. Plot. Twist! I did not see it coming — and now I need to know everything that happens next!! 🙌📚✨

Very rarely does a sequal ever live up to the standard set by the first. But it does in this case! The second Heretic behaviour had me unable to put it down from the start. The world was buzzing, the story line enthralling and the chemistry electric. I think I loved it more then the first! With so many twists and turns I was unable to put it down and some nights I stayed up for hours reading (which as a mother my sleep is very precious and that's what I was willing to sacrifice to read this book!). This series has a special place in my heart and I when I finished I wanted to immediately reread it so I could get lost in the world with my favourite characters again. Thank you for creating a little oasis to get lost in with this world, I cant wait to get lost in the next one!

Thank you so much to the author for providing me with a copy. All thoughts are my own.

This was such a great sequel! I was completely hooked from the start.

I loved learning more about both Mila and Culis in this book as their bond grew and they opened up to each other more. The trust and love that blossomed between them over the course of this book made me so happy.

There’s so much going on in this book and it kept me consistently on the edge of my seat desperate for more.

And that ending! I absolutely need to know what happens next!!

Oh my God. Oops, sorry, I mean... Oh my Midas 🙏
Elyse has done it once again everybody, in fact this time I think it's even slightly better than the first amazing book! I am just obsessed.
If I could give this 6 stars I absolutely would.
I am speechless. I laughed, cried and screamed whilst reading this book. The ending... I literally can't. I can't! Eeeeeek! There better be a third book, or else *shakes fist 😂

Well that was a ride and half! What a journey this story has taken me on. From book one through to book two, it's had me on the edge of my seat.

I have been happy, frustrated and absolutely angry! lol. From the world building to the characters this book engulfs you in the world from beginning to end.

If you are after adventure, twists & turns, high fantasy with loveable and hateable characters, this book is for you.

The second book in Heretic Behaviour series and I'm kind of obsessed. You get to see different sides to all your favourite, and not so favourite, characters. Then the end.....not cool Elyse (it's ok though, I still love you. Now bring me the next book).

In The Lies of Midas, E.C. Glynn picks up right where her first novel left off and drives the narrative into darker, more complex territory. We again follow Mila’s journey—she’s still alive, but survival is no longer enough. A friend is missing, the Church is hunting, enemies are closer than ever, and the deception at the core of the world threatens everything.

If you loved The Secrets of Demons (the first book in the series) or are drawn to fantasy that interweaves political/religious intrigue with personal stakes and some romance, then The Lies of Midas is a must-read. Glynn has delivered a sequel that is high energy, emotionally resonant, and compelling on multiple levels.

E.C Glynn's 2nd book in the Heretic Behavioirs series is even better than the first. Character development for Milas and Culis and the side Characters such as Jahan, Natalie and Tarrant are rich and make them feel like friends that you have known forever. I would have liked for the book to have other POVs especially towards the end when Mila is kidnapped by Frank I would have loved a POV from Culis, Jahan and Tarrent to know what they were doing.....I wouldn't mind some novellas focussing on these charaters more.
I loved all the twists and turns the story takes and especially was not expecting the reveal about Lady Meredith!
I now cannot wait for the next instalment to see how things unfold now Abbott has taken over the narrative of what occurred. I love how E.C Glynn uses the background of religion and zealots in a fantasy world to address issues that are current in real world politics today

Mila has had her suspicions confirmed but she and her friends are in more danger than ever. Everyone at Culis Manor is at risk when the enemy moves in and Mila becomes more determined than ever to bring down the church of lies. But, with the path ahead full of peril, what is she willing to sacrifice to make it happen and will she become the very evil she seeks to destroy?

✨️Forbidden romance with touch and die vibes

WOW! Just.... wow! when i say this book was incredible, it is an understatement. Im not sure how im going to be able to put into words how great this book is, but ill try. There is so much to love in The Lies of Midas; the characters are well rounded and show fantastic growth and they're so easy to love and hate (and you really do love to hate some of them), the writing style is flawless and full of emotive language and incredible imagery, and the storyline is thrilling with action, romance, magic and so much intrigue and some of the twists will knock your socks of.

Its starts of with a prologue that is a total kick in the guts and i was instantly hooked (and for those heathens that dont read prologues, do it for this book, please!). I Loved how it starts at one point of time and then goes back and shows what lead up to it, it is a fantastic writing device and Glynn has used it PERFECTLY in this story. Apart from the prologue and epilogue (which is also brilliant) the bulk of the story is written from Mila's POV but every now and then you get the incredible perspective of Aidas. I was so delighted to see this addition and i loved the backstory and context we got from it. It was such a great and meaningful addition.

Even though the romance was a subplot, I adored the forbidden love aspect. The stolen glances, the hidden touches, the silent communications and then finally the epic-ness of that slow burn igniting... that scene... in the kitchen!!! OH. MY. MIDAS! There are some fantastically spicy scenes inside, but in relation to some other books ive read, i consider it to be quite tame. The plot and character development really is the highlight of this book!

Another stand out for me was the optional extra of the playlist. There are a few specific chapters of the book which have been paired beautifully to a song, but i encourage you to listen to 2 scenes in particular while you read because i cant even express how truly magical it makes the reading experience. The first instance this takes place is the entire prologue with Les Memoire Blesses by Dark Sanctuary. Reading these pages while listening to this hauntingly beautiful melody was incredible and it sets the tone so perfectly that it feels like it was written in tandem. Honestly it is the PERFECT way to start this book. the second and, in my experience, more glorious scene is in the chapter 17: Reunion, with the instruction to play Run Boy Run (instrumental) by Woodkid when the music starts playing in Reminisciary. It may have been a total fluke but i managed to start at precisely the right time and my reading speed was timed to perfection because as i was reading, the tempo of the music and the tempo of the scene synced in a way i have NEVER experienced before in my life. The rise and fall meshed perfectly with the ebb and flow of the scene and i honestly think Elyse Glynn must be magic to be able to have pulled that off. It truly was the most epic and magical reading experience ive ever had. i had to put the book down because i wept. I implore you to try and read while listening to these 2 songs, they are both instrumentals so it takes nothing away from reading but really heightens the experience to a level i didnt know was even possible.

Overall this story is a masterpiece, I enjoyed every second i spent reading this and was devastated when it ended. i wouldnt say it was a cliffhanger ending but the ending was intense and I felt agony as i realized i now had to wait for the 3rd book to make its way to me. Please Elyse, dont make me wait long!! Until then, i guess i will just have to read this again and again, chasing the incredible feeling this book gave me!

I have never been a fan of romantasy. Oh, I've read plenty of fantasy of all kinds and most of them had some love story - but writing a book around the premise of a love story seemed pointless to me.

In hindsight, I should have known better. But that's a story for another day.

I stumbled upon E.C. Glynn in a discussion on some social media. She mentioned her book (just one at the time) and some of the things she hinted at - a corrupt and oppressive religion, liberation of the soul, surviving impossible odds et caetera - resonated with me.

So I got myself a copy of "Secret of Demons", started reading and promptly found myself dragged into Mila's compelling story. I devoured the book and felt the craving of more - of knowing how things would go on. So when the kind author searched for ARC volunteers, I leapt at the opportunity. And I was not disappointed one bit.

If possible, this "Lies of Midas" surpasses the first book expanding the story and finally giving us some sapiently dosed insight on (some of) our villains' history and worldview, while compellingly moving on the story of Mila and Culis.

The first book was mostly set *inside* - inside the Temple's dungeons, inside Jezebel's palace, inside Culis' estate - and the author skillfully gave us a suffucating sense of claustrophoby and oppression, as if Mila (and us with her) was never really free to stand in the light and air, never able to fully breath in the air. (The vasium necklace Mila had to wear was the epitome of oppression and weigh - a powerful symbol of how certain apparently harmless shackles can drag us to the ground and force us to crawl, and if you are thinking of toxic and oppressive relationships you are not alone). This second book broadens the action, carrying us in the past and on far lands while in the present our crew of protagonists travels by sea and land searching for the means to ungod a living god and break the chains of his church - and the author conveys to us this sense of vastness and relative freedom, although the threats are always looming. But the claustrophoby does return - and how so! - in the final chapters...

Entwined in the story are examples of how getting rid of the shackles of false faith is never easy - and not everyone can be expected to be ready to accept to have lived a life based on a deception. Worse yet, not all those that want to destroy an oppression do this for noble motives - and if they claim they act to "bring the faith back to its pure roots", you better never let your hand stray too far from the hilt because things *will* get ugly.

The construction of the story of this second book is superb. We are shown a glimpse of what is going to happen in the very first few pages - and then we are abruptly brought back to weeks and months earlier, knowing *something* terrible will happen but never sure when and how. I found myself dreading to turn the page, for fear that this would be the moment. And then it happens, and we found ourselves in desperation again. But that's just the setup for the final three chapters, a true masterwork of shocking revelations and unexpected (but in hindsight, there *were* hints, hidden just before our eyes, a subtle subtext we won't notice until it's too late...) twists that won't allow the reader to stop - for the first time in many years, I had to keep reading late into the night because I could not simply get myself to sleep without *knowing*. And in the end, the reader is left reeling, wishing the book would not end there because we need to know what will happen now.

And here, I think, lies the sign of a good and well-written story: you want to know what happened to the characters you love. You dread to know what horrors expect them, but you cannot wait to know.

All in all, a very beautiful book. I am glad I discovered the smart and nice E.C. Glynn, my most appreciated literary surprise of the last few years. I will definitely be waiting for more and more of her work.

What would you do to survive? To survive in a world where you are feared, hated, and prosecuted? In a world where each breath you take might be your last? When would the boundaries of your morals and ethics blur altogether in a desperate chase to see the sky once again? And what if those who hunted you held the manacles of ultimate power? Where would you draw the line?

There are no easy answers to these questions, in fantasy worlds nor in the one we live in today. And so, what Elyse has done masterfully once again in Heretic Behaviour: The Lies of Midas, the sequel to Heretic Behaviour: The Secrets of Demons, is to offer possibilities. To explore the choices her characters make in a world where those very choices are constantly stripped away from them.

The Secrets of Demons, Book 1, was a devastatingly beautiful yet grim introduction.

"The elite are always heretics when it suits them. Divine obedience is for the poor."
That one line summed it all up.

Now, The Lies of Midas digs ever deeper into the corruption, opulence, and hypocrisy of the God-King Midas and his followers. Not everything that shines is gold, right?

Mila has learned that lesson and continues to uncover just how deep the rot goes. She may have escaped, but there is no true freedom for anyone until the Church's dark cloud is eradicated. So she tries. And she is not alone in this endeavor. She tries, she fails, and she tries again. Mila, Culis, and their closest allies. They learn, they grow, and they keep fighting.

Culis was remarkable in the sequel. He truly shines in his growth, in his need to break the chains holding him down, and in his determination to emerge as a better person. He keeps trying. For Mila. Even when it seems like all hope is lost and the villains may prevail. And there is no villain like Jezebel. None so cruel, yet so terrified of her own thoughts and fears. None so breathtaking even in their brutality. None cruel enough. But her reckoning will come, just as it will for everyone else in that circle. And I will rejoice.

The ending gutted me. There was one ray of light, and then it was extinguished, for now at least. But hope is not lost. Never.

Thank you, Elyse, for having me on your ARC team and for continuing to weave your story, because it deserves to be heard.

4.5 ⭐️

And she’s done it again. From the prologue this book had my attention, if you’ve read book 1, the prologue does share a snippet of a future event. Chapter 1 picks up shortly after where book 1 ends. Straight away I was again left wondering where Christopher Culis sat with his loyalties and feelings towards Mila. However Mila has already started trying to formulate a plan to bring down the church and the false god. So many of my questions from book 1 were answered. Family connections were revealed. Without spoiling the second book, we find ourselves watching Culis performing the juggling act of performing the doting fiancé while also putting plans into motion to protect Mila and free them from Jezebel so they can be together. We learn that Mila can be quiet 😉 and under the many skirts of a dress is the perfect hiding spot. They set off sail together and Mila gets torn between trusting those around her by sharing the secrets of her kind or having to leave her partners in crime in the dark, all while navigating the changes to her own powers. Jezebel continues to be her lovely self (I’m being very sarcastic here 🙃) and ends up where I believe she belongs 🤷🏼‍♀️

My take away from this book is; was Midas really the villain? As more truths come to light I feel like there was someone else taking advantage of his feelings of hopelessness. Will book 3 show Mila becoming a hypocrite regarding how her own power works. Will she ever tell Christopher the truth of her feelings? Or will she grow closer to the person she’s with at the end of the book while looking for safety. A major plot point in the book possibly could’ve been avoided because of her power but then we wouldn’t have had our FMC tortured and depressed to then get to a major event that again turned things in a new direction. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to read this as an ARC. I’m left with the knowledge I now have to wait for book 3

I really enjoyed Heroic Behaviour. The lies of midas, the follow-up that builds beautifully on the first book in the series. It's the kind of read that hooks you with high stakes and emotional depth, earning a solid spot above a 4-star rating for me—but not quite perfect at 5. Overall, I'm settling on 4.5 stars, rounding down to 4.

The book kicks off in a bold way: it starts with the ending. This clever framing device creates instant anticipation, making you race through the pages to see how everything connects. That "how did we get here?" vibe kept me glued, and the payoff is massive—the actual ending is electrifying, leaving the story in an absolutely perfect cliffhanger spot for what's next. I was not wanting to put it down. Reading the last third of the book in one hit.

The flashbacks are a standout feature, woven in masterfully to flesh out the world and relationships. They add layers of intrigue and make the narrative feel richer. Even better, the character growth shines in this book—everyone evolves so much more than in the first. Protagonists who felt a bit one-note before now have real arcs, vulnerabilities, and triumphs that hit hard emotionally.

My main gripe, and the reason it doesn't hit a full 5, is the middle section. It slows down, with some extended buildup that made me itch for the story to pick up the pace. Given the explosive start (and that teasing ending reveal), the anticipation is sky-high from page one, so those slower stretches felt like a temporary lull in an otherwise adrenaline-fueled ride.

All in all, Heroic Behaviour 2 is a worthy sequel that delivers excitement, heart, and smart storytelling. If you loved the first book, this one levels up in character development and tension. Looking forward to the last in the series.

To say I am really rather fond of Elyse’s books is like saying water seems ok to a thirsty man.

The Lies of Midas is just as good, if not better than, its predecessor. We come into the story almost immediately following the events of the end of book one and essentially hit the ground running. I don’t think I took a deep breath for the first several chapters.

The intrigue is intriguing, the yearning is yearning, and my desire to punch Jezeb*tch in the throat is as strong as ever. By mid way into the book my heart had broken, been healed, then broken again, been terrified over one particular character, laughed too hard at 2am, sobbed over an unnamed character, and basically needed to take a breather coz I swore I ran a marathon with how winded I felt.

The deconstruction of church doctrine and hollow faith is unmatched, yet Elyse still manages to do so respectfully and without malice. She shines a light on the ways in which doctrine can fail us, but how people can see passed it all to do incredible things.

There is quite a bit more spice in this book, which usually isn’t my cup of tea, but it really REALLY works here as it adds to the heightening of emotions and yearning. And I do love me a good yearning.

I cannot say enough good things about this book or Elyse’s writing. The way she weaves mood and plotline is so refreshing. I am so incandescently proud of my fellow female Aussies and the absolutely incredible stories they weave.

Six out of five stars. Could not love it (or Jahan) more.

I am just a girl, standing before Elyse begging for book 3 in her Heretic Behaviours series.

I inhaled The Lies of Midas, and I am untethered, I am obsessed... I need to know what happens next!

Sometimes a second book in a series can feel like a filler, well this one smacks you in the face in the first chapter and then for the remainder of the book you are on EDGE.

It was an incredible ride.

We fall directly back into Mila's world, which has gone topsy turvy in a not great way. Jezebel, the biggest threat to her, well, breathing, is back with a vengeance and intent on destroying the small slice of happiness she'd carved out with Culis.

Things go from bad to worse and just when you think things are starting to head in the right direction, Elyse pulls the strings... and also pulls no punches.

What you'll find is a breathtakingly compelling story that makes the reader step into Mila's shoes, see all her faults, all her desires, wants and choices and ultimately watch it all play out while holding in a breath. Straddling the the line of right and wrong never read so good.

If you love;

- forbidden love
- touch each other and be killed
- a villain you love to hate
- quests
- found family
- origin story
- twists and turns
- religious undertones

Then add this to your tbr - I promise - this is a series you will not regret picking up.

I read this one prior to official release

Once again, E.C. Glynn has done an incredible job at building a world and diving deep into these characters. Assuming you've read the first book (which you'll really need to to understand this one), while you won't be seeing that much in the way of new locations or new characters - we keep going deeper, seeing characters anew, and places anew. Also, again, she's masterfully managed to communicate the struggles of dealing with trauma - and how multiple different characters handle that (or don't, as the case may be).
We also have, in no particular order, sword fights, a journey on the high seas, cats, singing, *multiple* very spicy scenes, powers evolving, hair pulling, an angry mob, a kidnapping, and lots of rubane. Yes, I absolutely loved it! (Oh, and at least one of those is going to be quite different to what you expect. Have fun!)
If you had questions at the end of book one - I can't promise that they're all answered by the end of this book, and there are of course more questions now. But a lot of questions do get answered, one way or another....
As someone who loves fantasy, romance, medieval, deconstruction, powers....this book is right up my alley, and I am going to be inherently biased. But I do genuinely think it's an incredible book. If this is the sort of genre that you enjoy, I highly recommend giving it a try. (Though only after reading the first one, if you haven't read that yet!)

About the book:
The stakes could not be higher as a friend is missing, one is being hunted by the church, your sworn enemy moves into your home, your power is now uncontrollable and you could be killed if even caught looking at the man you are in love with. As a dangerous truth is unraveling and a lie that threatens the very fabric of your word, survival is no longer enough.

My review:
Elyse!!! Why, oh why do you do this to me? Starting the book, the way you did? The anxiety you’ve caused me waiting for sh*t to hit the fan! Yet, despite the anguish you caused from the start I HAD to know what was next. I could not put it down. I’m clearly a glutton for punishment.

To learn about Midas and his journey. Wow just wow! How did you leave me feeling sorry for him? That was NOT supposed to happen. Jezebel, Jezebel, Jezebel... What are we going to do with you??? Have you not learned your lesson?

I was happy to see the friendship and love grow between the characters along their journey through Traders Bay and the Highlands. And finally, the spice! About time Mila and Culis got theirs! The banter between the two is endless and I am all for it!

But on a serious note.. AGAIN ELYSE, AGAIN with the ending! You know how impatient I am!! I sure hope book 3 comes out next week, I may not make it through the withdraw this time. Maybe I can steal some power from my plant?

I love when a sequel is just as good or even better than the first book in a series. When the story continues to build and become even more immersive. The world building was fantastic and I really enjoyed seeing more of places like Traders Bay and Mila's home in the Highlands.

I love Mila and Culis' love story and the way they fight for each other amongst the trials and setbacks they face. And the spice..we love the spice!

The cast of supporting characters are written so fabulously and I really like how there is no one character that is completely likeable! Sounds funny, but it's true..it makes them so much more relatable and human!

And the villians of the story are so morally grey and multifaceted that you can't completely dislike them because you can either empathise with their plight or even see a little of yourself in them.

I really liked Midas' flashbacks..they were like little snippets that often left me with more questions but also ensured I was even more invested in the story.

And Jahan...I think I'm slightly in love with Jahan and I love his battle with his moral compass as his whole belief system is blown apart!

The ending as always left me desperate for more!

Thank you so much Elyse for trusting me with an ARC of Heretic Behaviour: The Lies of Midas. It was an absolute joy to read and I honestly cannot wait for the next book!

Eeeeh I have been so excited to read this book after devouring Book 1, which was an absolutely phenomenal debut for this author. Book 2 picks up right where we left off, with Glynn doing a fantastic job of exploring a complex and sensitive theme in an action-packed fantasy world.

I loved the world building of the first book, but what I loved so much about the sequel is that it built even further on what was previously written, answering questions that I didn’t even know I had. The characters were complex and the reasons for some of their thoughts and actions felt authentic and organic. Glynn writes in a way that makes the beliefs of all sides feel plausible, and the character development felt real. I was very emotionally immersed in this world, and I attribute that to the quality of the plot and world building with deep characters woven in. I enjoyed seeing the romance play out, but it takes a bit of a backseat to the story (which I love, but if you’re looking more romance and plot as a secondary, just something to be mindful of).

I loved this book, I loved this world, and I can’t wait to see more from this author. This is a fantastic sequel to one of my favourite reads from 2024 and I’m so grateful to have ARC read both of them! Thank you so much to the author for sharing this with me 🥰

I have received this book as an ARC, after I found and read ,by a happy chance, the first book of rhe Heretic Behaviour. I have been waiting for a while now for this book, and I can say it is as good as the first one!
Mila is such a bright and good person, and she has a fulminant development over the second book! Culis is there for her, as all her friends! Jahan has a surprising change of mind and behavior, and it turns out he is as good as Mila first thought he was.
The love story seems to me to be a side story, as the most important part is how religion and politics rule the world. The fight between the different sides, the plans , the search for power or redemption, that is the main plot. This book is more about how people achieve power and how they lie and cheat and kill to keep it.
We find out how Midas came to be, who he was and who he became, who brought him into power and why, and most definitely is interesting! I kind of hope that the next book (I sure hope there is a next book in plan🤞)will bring closure to some characters!
Thank you, Elyse Glynn, for accepting me in the arc team and allowing me to read this wonderful book in advance! I love the world you created!

Heretic Behaviour The Lies of Midas, the ARC I received for free for an honest review, and am I happy I did it!

The book starts epically and then things go south from the very first chapters. Mila and Cullis are in a tight spot and try their best against the world to stay together. Mila though needs to make some decisions and help her friend who is missing. The plan to save the demons from their demise also has difficulties. What lies do the king and the church hide from their people? Nothing is as it seems in this world and corruption lies deeply and well hidden.

Here I want to say that Jezebel is truly the female version Joffrey Baratheon and also Cullis senior is a horrible but most valuable person.

Forced marriage
Fantasy and magic
Special gifts
Unique system build
